Hello! It's me. I thought I'd start a thread which is VERY cheeky for someone who's not been around for AGES! Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CakeandRoses · 18/05/2011 10:40

Grin at the unprofessional lush thomas

kSal the biting is awful isn't it? F stopped biting once he got his first tooth but A bites me whenever she's teething Angry

if O is doing it due to teething then you might want to try to make it past this tooth so you might get a good run before then next one.

KSal · 18/05/2011 11:25

i'm not sure he's teething at the moment - there are no other signs.... I kind of dread the feed at the mo. I never had pain feeding until his teeth came!!

that has just reminded me that I did a BUPA health questionnaire yesterday (quite a good result actually) only it advised me that i could cut my risk of breast cancer by having a couple more children... erm maybe not!

re baby love... i definitely felt it more with O than E. Its amazing how our experiences of babies is so different each time... O is different from E in almost every way!

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/05/2011 16:29

I like it when this thread is busy, but I am struggling to keep up at the moment!

Teeth - ds1 has 3 of his back molars partially erupted, and one still to come. I would have no clue about this were it not for the dentist telling me the other week Grin.

Welcome back Rachie and Heather :).

Not sure I can comment much on the decision as to whether to have 3 dc or not, since our decision was made for us! (For those new to the thread, dh and I don't always get on that well, and only share a bed when we have visitors, and we had difficulty conceiving the first 2 dc (plus the one we lost), so it was a shock as well as a surprise that we conceived ds2 the first time we finally got down and dirty after having ds1).
What is it about the 3 child 'lifestyle' that puts you off cake?

I don't recall afterpains with J as I was busy suffering with my gallstones instead! (again for the benefit of newbies, I had my gall bladder removed in March after 8 months of constant pain)

KSal - it's unusual for babies to continue nipping once they have adjusted to new teeth, but if you do want to stop now then remember that you have done well keeping going for 8 months. :)

£9.50 a session sounds cheap Heather. We pay £12 per session for ds (he goes 2 morning per week) and I thought that was quite good (but was used to the extortionate private rates that we paid for dd).

Purpleprickles · 18/05/2011 18:31

Thank you CSWS Smile Can you just explain about your ds teeth, do you mean he has more molars coming through than expected for his age? I only ask because I thought J had all of his teeth (he has 20) but then the other night it looked like another molar was coming through. It was hard to see though because he is a bugger and won't open his mouth for long so I did think it might have been part of the molar that I had thought was already through. Does this make any sense? Anyway he isn't bothered by it so I'm hoping next time we go to the dentist he may let the dentist look in his mouth. I was just wondering if I'll have child with too many teeth Confused

HavePatience · 18/05/2011 20:26

I didn't know steaming was drunk! Haha! He said steaming because of the steam coming out. Grin

Rachie I think Q might have too many as well! Are you sticking with one or planning another?

I cannot imagine loving another baby as much as I loved/love Q. The love was so intense and emotional. More than anything I have ever experienced in my life. I can see from your posts that it's possible but I feel such an incredible bond and love for Q that I do wonder if I'd have to always hide the fact that Q is my favourite if I had another Blush. I'm not one to have "favourites" as a teacher or anything but the way I feel about Q... Nothing could top that.

Purpleprickles · 18/05/2011 20:34

Star Confused I don't know!!!!!! (said in a whiney voice) Actually I do know that I would like J to have a sibling but I just don't feel ready and I don't know when I will. I have the added pressure of dh's biological clock ticking loudly as he is 37 and paranoid about being an "old dad". I'm only 34 though (well next week I am) so my clock is ok, not ticking too loudly. I totally understand what you mean about not loving another as much, I feel the same. Although I know I would really. My cousin also felt the same when she was pg with her second, until she realised that her mum may have felt the same about her as she was a second child Grin The other thing is that our life does seem to have just about got to a state of normal. J is chatty so can tell us what he needs, he's potty trained so going out doesn't involve a huge bag, he is interested in everything so we go out lots. I know these are all silly reasons to not have a second but I worry about rocking the boat.
Phew bet you wish you hadn't asked Blush

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/05/2011 21:25

I don't know when is the normal age for adult teeth to start coming through, but I discovered quite recently that it's perfectly normal for some adult molars to arrive before milk teeth start dropping out and being replaced, so don't panic if your boys have more than you expected.

lol at 37 being an old dad! Dh was not far off 45 when ds2 was born!

Honeymoonmummy · 18/05/2011 21:28

Hello all, goodness you have been chatty! I have been lurking but hate posting on iPhone (which I'm doing now while lying on my side in bed feeding DS) so will keep this short. Nice too see some old faces again [waves]. Hugs to pistachio. Csws, I wouldnt sleep if I had mice!

We had 6 wk check and 1st jabs today, went well. DS and I both starting to feel better. Will post more next time!

CakeandRoses · 19/05/2011 00:15

Thank you very much myjob, you utter sweetheart! that makes me feel a bit better about that particular upcoming milestone Smile

csws thank you for bringing me up to speed with your stuff. i'm so sorry that you lost a baby.

re the 3 children lifestyle: I was really into my career and just enjoying life before we had F. I'd never felt broody or particularly wanted a baby before then but when we had him, it all just slotted into place and felt so natural. I've really enjoyed motherhood, bf, being at home etc etc but... I feel like I'm stretched quite thin between 2 children at times and feel I wouldn't be able to any of us (inc me and dh) justice if there was another person to take care of. Plus, i really like having the time/money to do lots of fun things, have a semi-organised life and the house not looking like a toyshop-cum-bombsite (shallow i know) and i feel the chances of that diminishes with each extra child.

star F was the pfb to end all pfb - as I said above, I really wasn't a maternal, into babies type of a person so having F knocked me for six, in a good way. I was so nervous about having another child for the reasons you've said but got kinda hustled into it by dh on honeymoon Smile (we married when F was 11m). As it turned out, having A was a GREAT decision - we've all (inc F) totally fallen for her and he adores being the big brother. Everything we do feels somehow better as a family of 4 rather than 3.

CakeandRoses · 19/05/2011 00:19

and I too thought I'd have to hide that F was my favourite Grin but that seems ridiculous now as i just love them both so much.

purple i felt quite Envy reading about you going out without a change bag - that's a definite downside of having 2 close together!

Purpleprickles · 19/05/2011 06:37

CSWS the age thing is all to do with being able to run around and play football etc. To which I always do this face Hmm because there isn't much of that going on now Grin
Cakes the other day I even dared to go out without the potty Grin
Gah time to get up again already and start the rush to Nursery rush to work routine. Roll on half term. J is currently snoring next to me but if it was Saturday he'd be jumping on my head.

KSal · 19/05/2011 07:59

just to update - no stopping BF yet for me. If i'm honest i would quite like to for practical reasons, but Orin isn't ready yet so on we go! I think I'm just not a 'go with the flow' kind of person and I would like a timetable.... you'd think by my second i would have realised that it just doesn't work like that!

I'll just have to ride out the nipping (winces)

good to hear you're starting to feel a bit better HMM

ahhh the idea of going out without a changing bag is bliss.... going to be at least a couple more years for me!!

pepperrabbit · 19/05/2011 15:40

Feels the need to point out that the pepperrabbit household have been changing nappies for 7 years as of next wed when DS1 turns 7.
Angry
2 of those years had 2 in nappies.
DD is having none of it when it we mention the potty.

Coconutfeet · 19/05/2011 21:20

Pepper Shock at seven years! You definitely get the prize.

Lovely to have you back Purpleprickles and Heather (it's Aubergenie by the way). I'm really looking forward to half term too! I was supposed to be starting my masters that week and had planned to send S to nursery and get on with some work but the start date's been delayed so I'm going to just have a bit of time to myself, which feels a bit radical.

Star - Sorry to hear about all the teething woes. S still has only one back tooth on each side so we've got that to look forward to.

S is heavily into pirates at the moment too. He spends a lot of time running around with a pair of pull up pants on his head shouting "arrrh arrhhh" in a pirate fashion.

I'm feeling very smug. I sold £120 of baby/maternity stuff on Ebay yesterday. The baby hammock went for about the same amount I paid for it, and I used it for 6 months. I was really moaning about how long it was taking me to wash/photograph/list all the items but it was definitely worth it.

How are you doing today Pistachio?

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/05/2011 21:52

Oh good stuff cf. I still have my virtually unused £180 amby nest Angry. Should get on and list it myself I suppose. Actually it's free listing this weekend isn't it, so I might just do that if dh can get it down and we can sort out how to pack and post.

Purpleprickles · 19/05/2011 22:10

Hi Coconutfeet I love the idea of a mini pirate with pants on his head Smile Well done on the eBay sale, I have a few bits but am too lazy busy to work out exactly how to do it.
We had giant African snails in the Nursery today and I'm now toying with the idea of getting some for J who is fascinated by snails. Think I need to do some research first though and devise a way of convincing dh!

CakeandRoses · 20/05/2011 07:45

you def get the prize for 7 years of nappies pepper Shock

we only had a nappy overlap of 8 months which seemed bad enough

brill selling on ebay cf. i've been selling bits and pieces lately but haven't got into the hardcore excavating, washing, selling of all the baby kit yet. thanks for the heads-up re the free listing csws tho it'll probably just become a guilt-trip as i cba to do it this weekend

am feeling sooo proud of F this morning. he's slept thru in his own bed Shock for a sticker chart's worth of nights (which is the longest ever) and has been presented with a new drum. it was a bit like a mini-christmas this morning as he was so excited Smile

and just looked in and he and A are playing so sweetly together in his room. it's the first time i've let her in there for more than a couple of minutes with me but she's always desperate to play with him/his toys so thought i'd try it and just keep popping in to check on them.

Coconutfeet · 20/05/2011 08:23

You'd definitely get a good price for it on Ebay CSWS. The only hassle is that I've had to book a courier to pick it up some time today which means we can't go out at all until they've been. Thankfully my mum is coming over and can take S out for me.

Cakes - They've had quite a few free listing weekends recently so there's bound to be another one soon. Yippee to ds sleeping through.

Purpleprickles - I wanted to get some African land snails for my classroom, but apparently they lay loads of eggs and you're in danger of being overrun by the damn things. You can apparently take the eggs out and (I think) freeze them to kill them off, but you have to be quite diligent about it and that put me off. Are you still enjoying nursery? Would you like to stay there next year?

HavePatience · 20/05/2011 12:00

I forgot to answer your earlier question, cf. Yes, I am finding the student teacher to come with a lot of paperwork and other time consuming bits. She's not here for too long, though. It's not her full placement, just a short one abroad as they've come from the US.

I've just found out a colleague is pregnant :) I'm so happy for her! They have no dc yet and she's my age. It's such a wonderful experience. I can't wait for her to have it and experience the immense love and joy that you simply cannot describe until you have your own child. I'll have to wait until December, though.

HavePatience · 20/05/2011 12:01

I know that sounded mushy but don't you just feel this sense of joy for someone who is having their first baby and has yet to experience that love and you know it's coming soon and you're just SO happy that another person gets to feel it? Maybe I'm not making sense.
