walking?
he is practically running with his walker holding it with one hand or my hand just wont let go and go it alone

talking?
says mama and apart from that trys to say look but its ook! ad lots of ooooh, aaahh, bababababababab, uuuh no 'n' or 'd' sounds at all much to dh's dismay

says mama dada to right parent?
says mamaaaaaaaaa when hes upset and wants me to pick him up

waving?
yes very enthusiasticly, in the morning when he wakes we get a two armed wave

clapping?
yes all the time, when he falls over, hears clapping a the tv or when we sing to him or sing if your happy and you know it clap your hands

pointing?
no dont think we point often enough for him to get it, at the zoo last week if i pointed and said look he would look at my finger and not the animal!!

understands 'no'
oh yes laughs his head off unless i say it sternly and with an angry face then we get tears

kisses?
yes sometimes pursed lips but usually big sloppy ones, only when we hold him though and only us and my mum, once he starts he doesnt stop going from me to dh and back again

page turner?
yes he has about 30 books but doesnt let you finish the page before he turns it, we now have 2 copies of the Gruffalo one for him and one we read!!

pincer grip?
yes he finds every tiny bit on the floor that he should have but wont pick up his food!!!

blw or puree/combo?
used to be a combo now wont eat anything unless im forcing it down him and its got to be smooth with no hint of a lump in it, i fear he will be eating slop ay 18 yo!!

number of feeds 4-5 feeds give him 6oz bottles but at the moment hes only having about 4oz of it 1st feed at 6am, 10am, 2pm then sometimes 5pm then bedtime at 7.30pm

2 bottom ones no sign of more

special skills- he can jump really well he holds the cot sides and umps up about 5 inches, likes pulling his socks off! walks like a monkey on his feet with his hands on the floor normally when hes not got trousers on has he hates any type of ground on his knees

memphis83 · 05/05/2011 09:58

spirael L hates potato too unless its a sweet one, he says ak! as he shudders, he also adores curry, how do you make one? i made a biriani the other day and he loved it even if it was meant for me!!!
cakes just my normal pain relief, i cant take ibuprofen to take swelling down as it makes me so ill! and the push along walker is the one that L runs with, he can also turn corners with it reverse out of tight spots and different floor surfaces dont faze him or slow him down, i reckon he will ride a motorbike really well with those skills Grin

Woodlands · 05/05/2011 10:00

Baby's age (closest to 9m, 9.5m or 10m):
9.5 months

Crawling?
No, but trying very hard. on the bed he can now get into crawling position and rock himself so he goes backwards.

Pulling up on furniture to stand?
No, hasn't even tried.

Coasting?
No

Standing unaided?
no

Walking?
no

Talking?
says mama, dada, baba, but not sure it means anything

Says Dada and Mama to the right parent?
not quite sure! sometimes.

Waving?
kind of

Clapping?
no

Pointing?
no

Understands 'no'?
not really

Kisses?
not sure if they are kisses or trying to get milk out of my face!

Page-turning?
yes! hoorah! my baby can do something.

Using pincer grip?
Yes, pretty competently. I think he has developed fine motor skills instead of gross ones.

BLW/Purees/Combo?
Combo, but he is a bit of a lazy boy about it and prefers being spoonfed. has a habit of flinging food on the floor. i have sometimes had to resort to breaking little bits of food off and posting them into his eager mouth - i used to see mums doing that and wondered why they didn't let the baby feed themself. now i know. he has no problem with lumpy foods, have stopped bothering to mash stuff like baked beans/pasta.

No of milk feeds?
About 5-6: 6.30am, 1pm, 7pm, 11pm, 3.30am, plus sometimes little top ups mid morning and mid afternoon if he is tired or bored or grumpy.

Special skills?
bouncing on his bum, he can travel a bit across the floor like this. bops his head as soon as music comes on.

CakeandRoses · 05/05/2011 10:03

memph L sounds very close to walking. Probably just confidence holding him back now.

Sounds like he's balancing really well to be able to stand up, bend down etc!

Would love to see his monkey walk as never seen a baby do that.

Gruffalo has always been a fave here too. F now 'reads' bits of it aloud and it kills me as he'll use a big scary voice for the gruffalo :D

WhatSheSaid · 05/05/2011 10:05

Oh and re Ibiza cake have you thought about searching old threads on here for family-friendly recommendations, or starting a new thread in Travel or whatever to ask.

Dh is off to Fiji in 9 hours, he bought me a big pile of trashy mags (including some UK ones, which are specially imported!) as an early Mother's Day present (M Day here on Sunday) Smile so I am sorted for celeb gossip for this weekend.

memphis83 · 05/05/2011 10:11

cakes will try and get picks of monkey walk, he balances so well, my family are so lazy didnt walk til nearly 2 i was looking forward to no chasing until then, i wanted a lazy baby :( for the Gruffalo ive bought him all the stuffed toys so i do the voices as the snake slithers in!! we also have the Gruffalo's child

Woodlands · 05/05/2011 10:19

fb group update

I've just upgraded our group to a 'new group' type otherwise our group would have been archived. It shouldn't make any real difference but if you notice any then this is why. if you have any problems posting or whatever then let me know and i'll take a look at the settings.

that recipe looks luscious except the raisins mlic. the parsnip sounds an unusual choice for a curry but we love it so will probably try the recipe as is.

which paste do you use?

i think one of the main benefits about blw is the ease of feeding in the 'now' (i.e. just being able to hand them stuff to chomp on wherever you are, which suits me very well) rather than it's the only way to make a 'normal eater' in the long run. It's not actually easier for everyone tho, esp if you hate the mess of it. It's also supposed to make them less fussy in the long-term (eg with textures as well as flavours) but other than my own 2 unfussy (so far) subjects i have no idea if the evidence actually stacks up in its favour, I may have just been lucky with mine and they may have eaten everything even with spoon-feeding.

i agree it's become a bit of an over-rated craze tho and a relaxed combo of both is probably a good bet for most people.

memph did you see the chair link i posted?

wss thanks for the suggestion - i did have a look on here and it was helpful tho every thread was a slightly different question/situation to ours so might well be worth starting my own as i'm now wavering between 3 different areas.

There's a possibility on Owners Direct tsc so thank you for suggesting that one. Anyone else use a good self-catering places website?

memphis83 · 05/05/2011 13:15

cakes saw the chair we tried him in one at dunelm he just rolled off it, the toddler rocker i want is the fisher price one even if it is really plastic looking he looks comfy in it but i think im being tight by not wanting to spend 65 on it for 6-8 months but just looked on ebay and there is a few cheaper and one in leicester so im watching those now
mlic right im going to tesco for coconut milk!!!
im not sentimental at all but ive gone all soppy lookng at L's newborn clothes cant believe he has outgrown 9 black bags already, i think he had way too many clothes!!!

Chulita · 05/05/2011 14:57

memphis S does a monkey walk too when he's outside in his vest cos the paving slabs are a bit rough I think, it's cute though!

I go with BLW simply for convenience but spoon feed if he'll let me to fill him up. L was BLW and is fussy so I drew the short straw on that one. She's getting better now though.

I've been giving S Tuc crackers and he loves them but they're very salty, not sure if I should keep giving them to him or not...

I've just joined myfitnesspal.com in an effort to keep track of where my eating habits go wrong. It's free so it's already in my good books Grin
