I liked the CRESH acronym more than FESH so have used it. Welcome all ESH to your final stop on the journey. Rest your aching lady bits, try one of the many gin based cocktails, and try to molest the gorgeous waiting staff.

medee You get my entire brave parent medal collection. EA sounds lovely, and I really hope you are enjoying being home with your girl.

AIBU to be cross at what just happened?

Landline telephone rings (rare occurence)
Clyde wakes up
I answer: Hello?
Caller: Oh, this isn't Personnel, is it?
Me: No, you have the wrong number and you have just woken my baby up!

I hope she feels really bad for the rest of the day.

Cosmosis · 15/04/2011 16:09

I know they don't tell you when they've done something, but it doesn't mean I don't also know that they are statistically more likely to happen on the 5 days when I am not there rather than the 2 days I am. Hey ho, nothing I can do about it, just got to win the lottery learn to live with it, it's not like I'm the only mum ever to go back ft.

medee I can't even imagine how frightening all that must have been. Just been taking a peek at the pics of your gorgeous girl, she's fab :)

That's some impressive boobage! I have gone from A to D and that was dramatic enough for me.

Muser · 15/04/2011 17:58

I must get myself measured at some point. I am scared to find out.

I have had a brilliant day today. Met work folk for lunch and chatted about things that are not babies. Then wandered along the South Bank, saw the sunflower seeds at the Tate Modern, headed to the BFI cafe as the baby was waking up and requiring feeding. Sat there in a comfy chair with a big glass of wine. Then up to Waterloo, bought SIL a present and home. Was ace. Especially the bit where I got to talk about non baby stuff.

Just a quick lurk and will be gone. How utterly terrifying for you and MrM, Meds. I'm so sorry you went through it and so glad wee EA is back home now. Have seen the pix and she is just beautiful. My niece had meningitis when she was a baby, and was very ill indeed. It was touch and go for a while. But she had no ill effects whatsoever and is a rudely healthy, fit and clever five year old.

rollerbaby · 15/04/2011 21:55

Meds that sounds horrendous. You must have been so frightened. Wonderful though that she was well cared for and you are home now. I know someone who had worst kind of meningitis and has had no issues afterwards so try not to worry.

As someone whose undercarriage resembled the Bayeaux tapestry I can say that you can expect to be aware of your stitches for months. Superficial ones should heal quickly but internal ones will take longer. I couldn't really walk very far for nearly 2 months and swelling was off and on but could get quite uncomfortable at times and painful to stand for long periods. I never managed to bathe as much as everyone said but I used to just squirt the shower head around a bit twice a day. Given how bad they were I've healed amazingly and totally back to normal now at 5 months.

Muse wow girlie you are amazing getting out and about. I am such a wuss.

Muser · 15/04/2011 22:18

It's the sling moo, it makes it all so much easier. No worrying about steps. She sleeps for a good 2-2.5 hours in it. And I've gone from being terrified of feeding in public to really not giving a shit if someone sees my nipple.

I've still not been on the tube though.

Muser · 15/04/2011 22:20

I've just realised it looks like I've completely ignored Medee's story. Have said it elsewhere, but the whole thing sounds so terrifying. Am glad you're all home where you should be. I hope nothing scares you like this again.

I am directing the bottle making up, bib finding, bottle temperature, formula measuring from our bed. This bottle feeding was supposed to mean I got to bed early!!!! He is learning i suppose. God is such a relief to be able to let someone else do feeds too! Oh dear Babymoo just weed all over grobag and daddy. Cue: what do I do? Answer: change him!!!!!!! I can hear a lot of swearing under breath. Is taking all my energy to not go in there and take over.

Medee · 16/04/2011 09:34

MrM had the poonami to deal with last night - I must admit I laughed quite a lot - but he's really good at nappy changes. She just kept pooing while he tried to change her nappy!

CluckyKate · 16/04/2011 09:35

Oh Meds meningitis!!!! - how bloody awful and scarey for you. Did they confirm that that was what it was? Beautiful photos btw - EA is really scrummy.

When LC was born we were contacted by the Oxford Vaccine Group to participate in a study for a MenB vaccine. As a result of this study all children will soon be innoculated against this awful illness. Sadly this won't help little babies like EA but hopefully it will eradicate the disease in all children 8 weeks and older.

Is MrClucks b'day today so we left the kids with the ILs last night & got trolleyed. BC was a star and slept all evening so we stayed out until 10:30 Shock before we caved and went home to bed [lightweights]

Not even a mention of my foof at the 6 week check - was all about da baybee.

Did I mention the ILs were here....am sitting here quietly seething while they waffle on with their inane chatter....

AlpinePony · 16/04/2011 09:39

Bear has been vaccinated against Men (not sure which strains) - but when colleague's baby got it, the docs said there are just so many strains that you can't vaccinate against each and every one. :( Also, differences between bacterial and viral.

I think Bear was on the guinness last night given the colour of poo. Hmm

Medee · 16/04/2011 09:42

They probably won't ever be able to. By the time the lumber puncture was done, she'd already had 48 hours of antibiotics so it was clear. However, there were sufficient markers that the consultant interpreted it as such, though caveated that by saying a colleague might interpret it differently. I'm not sure which Meningitis, and possibly we'll never know.

They're doing loads of metabolic studies on her blood to understand why her body responded the way it did, but they've gone off to a lab in Edinburgh and we won't know for some weeks the results.

I saw a little boy on the telly who had had meningitis at 6 months old, and lost 3 of his limbs, in whole or part. He was amazing though as he was being fitted for prosthetic limbs, so I know in many ways it could be much worse.

Medee · 16/04/2011 09:43

They're vaccinated against MenC at 8 weeks according to the red book we got yesterday. I believe EA's was bacterial, but not sure.

Guinness Poo? Lovely!

SilverSky · 16/04/2011 12:59

How's everyone?

moo are you boob free completely?

Calling all weaners! When do you introduce puddings and how much grub should each meal be? At the mo MB has four ice cubes per meal! If it's a tase he likes he screams when it's all gone!

AlpinePony · 16/04/2011 13:21

silv We had to start buying the grown-up sized pots of fromage frais when the screams became too upsetting as we legged it from living room to fridge and back for a 2nd mini one! Wink I don't believe in "should" - give him what he wants. There are no hard and fast rules, no books to live by.

CUNextTuesday · 16/04/2011 14:05

We started with puds about 7 months. Jelly is favourite.

PerfectDromedary · 16/04/2011 18:57

Medee Your story is really scary. It sounds like EA came through it like a little trooper, and you've kept it together so well.

Weaning sounds fun. Am looking forward to a baby who consumes 'real' food. Bollocks to bf'ing being bonding - Berwhale just stares at my armpit.

Neurotic first-time mother q; how sleepy were your babies at 7 weeks? Berwhale has suddenly started to sleep more in the day. Is this normal, or is he not getting enough to eat?

CluckyKate · 16/04/2011 19:50

If he was not getting enough to eat he would be awake and screaming, no?! Babies sleep summat like 16-18 hours a day and BC is on the upper end of the scale (8 weeks) so sounds perfectly normal to me Drom. Could he also be going through a growth spurt so conserving energy for that???

PerfectDromedary · 16/04/2011 20:10

Ta, CK. We had such a sloppy start with feeding that I don't trust him to remember he's hungry and do anything about it. Is dumb of me, given he woke up a textbook 3hrs after his last feed and is now eating happily. Must. Try. And. Chill. The. Fuck. Out.

Why don't they warn you that the possession of a baby may cause neurosis? Huh?

Muser · 16/04/2011 20:18

Could someone please tell KateBob she's meant to sleep 16-18 hours a day?

OP posts:
PerfectDromedary · 16/04/2011 20:22

Poor Muse. It means she's going to be an incredibly intelligent human, though - she's clearly far too interested in the outside world for summat as dull as sleep. Does swaddling help at all?

Muser · 16/04/2011 20:38

Swaddling possibly works at night, at least with getting her off. Doesn't seem to help during the day. The Kari-me sling works. The baby bjorn and babyhawk don't. And the Kari-me requires a lot of walking, but then she sleeps beautifully for stretches of 2 hours.

She won't even sleep in my arms. Little weirdo. I'm sure it'll get better. And until then I'm going to sling her up and go to some museums. I could do with a second sling though. Had to put it in the wash today and we don't have a tumble dryer.

OP posts:
PerfectDromedary · 16/04/2011 20:50

Berwhale almost instantly falls asleep in the ergo, and it has this padded infant insert thing that he stays asleep in when I put it down - might help if you want yet another sling? I assume she won't sleep in the Bee?

Muser · 16/04/2011 21:03

She doesn't sleep very well in the Bee. I can push her for an hour and she'll just stare at me. She then normally drops off about 10 minutes before we get where we're going and wakes up in a hideous mood.

I am checking out Ergos on ebay. I would like an alternative for TBG so he can take her out at the weekends and give her a better sleep than in the Bjorn.

OP posts:
PerfectDromedary · 16/04/2011 21:06

Do you want to test drive her in mine before you buy one? I love it in a life-changing way, but if she hates it then tis a lot of money.
