Lumpy Avocado is quite high in good fats, not sure about calories but it is easy to feed, either mashed on bread or in sticks.
Have you tried feeding him any meat yet?
Home made rice puding will have more calories then yogurt but be careful not to burn it like cinnamon

saoirse86 · 06/04/2011 12:23

Lumpy I thought it was normal for babies to slow down their weight gain when they start weaning. Is that not right? Confused And at least he didn't put on 2 and a half pounds in a month like Orlaith!

I'm actually worried that Orlaith's going to be one of those people who doesn't need to eat much but puts on lots of weight. She's never had much of an appetite, and in the 3 weeks she stepped up her milk to about 30oz a day instead of 20oz she put on shed loads of weight.
She's still not interested in food. People keep saying how surprised they are that she doesn't like food considering she's so big. I find it a bit upsetting, like they're saying they think of her as a big fat greedy baby. Sad

I know, I know, I'm being over-sensitive, and I should stop whinging!

It's a lovely warm but cloudy day here. I've just seen lots of places have rain today so I'm going to make the most of it and go out for a nice long walk. I've even bought some linen trousers for the summer and they're a size 8!!!!! Grin

comixminx · 06/04/2011 13:51

Beautiful weather outside at my end of things! Lots of sun as well as warmth. I've been hanging out the nappies and the other laundry, right near a strong sweet smell of honey from the white flowered bush in the garden (no idea what it's called but it's lovely right now). A is asleep but not for long, I fear...

Haven't weighed Aphra in ages - not since Jan I think. The advice I got was that they are only weighing them at immunizations now, so another weighing's not due for ages. Having said that I wouldn't mind knowing roughly how much she weighs, if I can be bothered to get round to it...

lumpybananapuree · 06/04/2011 15:25

Debs Ds1 lived on avocado at this age but Olly doesn't seem to like it! & yes he had had some meat but he does tend to just have veg type stuff.
Rice pud cooked & not burnt ;-)

Saoirse yes they do slow down. Ds1 did exactly the same at exactly the same age. I just want to be aware cos I thought he was doing so well & he hasn't actually dropped his milk intake by more than a couple of ounces.
You probably are being oversensitive and i'm sure people don't mean it like that but you're her mummy and if you want to feel like that then go ahead!

I only really took him cos I wanted to know if I should worry that he's not weight bearing and guess what?! He's started doing it! I swear they do stuff like that on purpose!

Debs75 · 06/04/2011 15:32

Comixminx With dd2 the HV's at the clinic told me off for taking her so much, we went every week till she was 3 months old then fortnightly for a while then every month after 6 months or so. I liked to keep an eye on her weight gain and it coinsided with a nice 3 mile walk to help me keep the baby weight off. My HV said go as often as you like as long as they get weighed at least 6 times a year.

Saoirse Lucy isn't overly keen on food either, I think because she tends to nap at odd times she often misses tea so she doesn't get the experience of watching us eat or smells the food. She has only just got around to dinner today and it is gone 3pm

comixminx · 06/04/2011 17:07

Debs, I think that advice about weighing that I mention above is very recent - but I haven't previously heard a suggestion about weighing them 6 times per year, to be honest. Mind you I haven't seen a HV for ages either!

cinnamongreyhound · 06/04/2011 19:07

I was told no more than once a month for weighing otherwise no advice. Perhaps you can up his carbs lumpybananapuree. Last time I took Luke they said he's likely to loose weight due to being more active but he's not really more active yet!!

Definitely good advice about the rice pudding, it smells bad, tastes bad and makes a lot of clearing up if you burn it Wink

Went to my census collector meeting and I'm ready to go now, I'm actually feeling quite excited! Will probably hate it in a few weeks time Grin

Have a good evening all :)

lumpybananapuree · 06/04/2011 19:58

I was told monthly till 6 months then every couple of months but to be honest, ours don't mind how often you go.
Olly only had 1 1/2oz at 2pm so was really hungry for tea. he ate a whole portion of ratatouilli (sp!) was still hungry, had half a portion of carrot mush then a helping of not burnt rice pud. Then had 5oz at bedtime!
He's definately not more active either! he's rolled about 6 times & just sits on his bum all day!

I don't really mind his weight gain slowing down. He now weighs what ds1 weighed at the end of the june so the hand me down clothes might end up being fine!

Cinnamon what do you have to do when you collect them? help them fill them in?

cinnamongreyhound · 07/04/2011 05:33

It depends why that haven't done them lumpybananapuree. If it's because they cant do it then yes help them, provide new forms if they're lost, translations for non English speakers, remind those who've left it on the side and persuade people who've decided they don't want to fill it in!!

FriggFRIGG · 07/04/2011 18:36

hi guysSmile

sorry for typos BFING...

mellymooks · 07/04/2011 19:47

frigg !!!! You have joined my club at last Wink Flynn still awful sleeper, you have my sympathies, I'm so knackered now after 6 months of this we think we have to get tough soon, I mean DP might, I am too much of a wimp by far but DP can't stand seeing me being a walking zombie much longer....
Flynn has finally started to eat a bit more on the solids front so I'm hoping that soon that may impact on sleep, I have to at least hope!
We're off to stay with lovely friends tomorrow but am dreading all of us having to share a room, think I will get even less sleep Sad

This weather is amazing!! We've had the paddling pool out and the beach tent for shade today.

Have great weekends everyone xx

cinnamongreyhound · 08/04/2011 09:32

So I have bitten the bullet and arranged speech therapy for ds1, it's pretty expensive but I don't want to wait 6months for nhs referral and my lovely dad has offered to help us pay for it. She's coming today so fingers crossed.

Maybe tmi but I seriously recommend a mooncup to anyone having heavier periods. I am using mine for the second time and I almost forget I'm having a period it's so comfortable.

Off to a friends tomorrow, via taking dh to work so hoping it's still a lovely day. Hope you all have some nice plans for the weekend :)

saoirse86 · 08/04/2011 11:20

melly and frigg I know how you feel! Orlaith's been waking every hour for what seems like months but is probably a couple of weeks. She's also become really clingy at night. If she wakes up in her cot she'll cry loads and I can rarely settle her back in there. I end up getting her into bed with me. Then she will only sleep if her face is pressing against my skin. It's really hard because I'd got used to having her in her cot and now I can't move with her face against me so I'm not sleeping well at all. Sad

To top it all off, my Open university assignments are kicking in now, I had one in this week, one for 2 weeks time and 2 exams in 4 weeks time. I'm terrified. I can't even think straight and remember to pick up my keys let alone remember equations and all sorts I have well and truly forgotten since I deferred these exams when Orlaith was born. Confused

If any of you see me on here in before May 5th tell me to get off and do some work. Seriously! I need to be shouted at! Grin

patito · 08/04/2011 12:25

hi

just checking in. Hope everyones good, will do a catch up later.

Its scorchio here, 35º yesterday and went out for bread this morning at 11am and was already 29º on the thermomter Shock and [hot and sweaty emoticon]. Not normal for this time of year, but its great as its like the middle of summer but with no tourists. Grin

comixminx · 08/04/2011 19:52

Patito, it's not quite as scorchio here but it's pretty hot by UK standards! Been very nice indeed today, with lovely leaf buds on the trees and blue skies and warmth. Aphra has been in her stroller with the sunscreen mesh thing over the front - it has a UV filter apparently which is reassuring. Bare legs, bare arms!

Quick question for you all. Aphra's still pretty much bf along side the food she gets with BLW. Her poo has changed into the sort of poo you get when they start eating solids - pastey consistency, smellier - which is fine, except that she does a poo far far less often than she used to. It's been quite a few days since she last did one, for instance.

I'm not sure if she might be constipated at all? I've given her some orange juice today and some sips of water in case she's slightly dehydrated or anything (though when she has poohed it hasn't been hard or pebbly) - no result yet. She's not showing any signs of discomfort and her tummy definitely isn't hard, it's really mostly that the frequency is so low. Sometimes she does go a bit red in the face but I've always taken that as frustration with other things, like wanting to sit up, rather than straining to poo. Any views? Should I see the HV?

cinnamongreyhound · 08/04/2011 23:01

I dot think it's anything to worry about comixminx, Luke poos anything from every 3 days to 3 times a day. If she isn't straining too much or in any discomfort I think it's fine. I do always give him water every time he eats though and he often guzzled quite a bit but is still very fond of milk and is having feeds more often than ds1 at this age (almost 7 months :()

Speech therapy went really well, she was lovely and basically ds1 is substituting sounds at te beginning of words and missing consonants at the end making him particularly hard to understand!! She went into a lot more detail and I have got faith in her. Plus he said c (the sound not the letter) for the first time ever and I nearly cried. I really hope she can help him and quickly! Booked for six 1/2hr sessions weekly and he then will need to take a break.

29w+4

comixminx · 08/04/2011 23:41

Thanks for the comforting words cinnamon - it's been more than 3 days since she last did a poo, I'm pretty sure, but I haven't been keeping exact track (maybe I should have). Will keep an eye on the situation & keep giving her sips of water with her food, as I've just started doing. To be honest she eats so little actual food with the old BLW she's almost the same as EBF so probably I shouldn't worry...

Great news on the speech therapy! So glad it sounds like it will be what is needed.

Dixiebell · 09/04/2011 07:04

Okay this is a bit embarrassing, and sorry if tmi, but DH and I have only just resumed 'relations' (I know I thought it was never going to happen! To be fair DH did have an operation on his bits recently so that contributed to the delay...) Anyway, it felt very different and a bit painful. I did have a 2nd degree tear so assume there is scarring making it feel weird. I remember others saying they felt 'tighter' - has it got better over time? I'm hoping that with a bit more practise it might all relax a bit...?!! Blush

comixminx · 09/04/2011 09:14

I'm afraid I can't tell you anything useful because we still haven't resumed relations... Hmm And there's not even an op to consider into the bargain! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 09/04/2011 09:31

This thread makes me feel like a bit of a sex maniac! Blush I waited 4 weeks after ds1 and 3 after Luke. Had a small tear after ds1 that wasn't stitched and was uncomfortable for a while and a 2nd degree on with Luke that was stitched that healed much quicker and better. I occasionally have discomfort in my perineum if dh gets the angle a bit wrong otherwise everything is normal. You could be tense as you e waited a while so it's possibly a bigger deal and a bit new tense. If the entrance feels tight then te stitches may have been too tight which as far as I know won't get better without help. I would say give it a few more tries and if things don't improve go and see your gp. I did use lubricant after ds1 as I was a bit nervous about it but not sure if it made a difference or not.

saoirse86 · 09/04/2011 11:08

Dixie definitely try some lubricant, and maybe a glass of wine! Wink
I haven't found it uncomfortable, but I may have forgotten because we haven't had sex for about 2 1/2 months as we're so exhausted from Orlaith waking every bloody hour! Actually TBH it's DP suffering more than me, I'd happily sacrifice 5 minutes an hour's sleep for sex! Grin Maybe it'll get better when we get Orlaith in her own room, but we're still waiting for DP's mum to make the curtains (which she insisted on doing but that was 6 weeks ago Angry ).

Right, the reason I came on was to tell you all what Orlaith did yesterday. She was sitting on my sister's lap sideways facing the arm of the sofa. She was bouncing like she always does, and then suddenly bounced so hard that she stood up without anyone holding her or her holding anything. She was just stood up for a couple of seconds until she turned to look at me to see why I was so excited. Then she kept trying it again but needed to hold onto the arm of the sofa to manage it. My baby can stand! Grin [very proud and slightly deluded mummy emoticon]

SeaChelles · 09/04/2011 12:46

Hi all, lovely week away here. Oliver loved the hot tub and was fascinated by all the bubbles the jets made! We had a couple of lovely sunny days, so we sat out on the picnic blankets and watched daddy fishing....and named all the fish he caught.... What?! It was Olivers idea!! Wink

Lots of crawling practise was had on the grass too and I am now a permanent bouncy castle - everytime he see's me he reaches out for me so that he can bounce and pull himself up. Pulling himself up on everything he can find now I come to think of it! He nearly went arse over tit yesterday when he decided to pull up on the music player he loves (which is on wheels!!!! Shock) Starting to think we might bypass crawling....not sure if I'm impressed or frightened! Hmm

Starting to get loads of nice cuddles too. When I'm carrying him somewhere, like upstairs to do his bum or something he snugggles his head under my chin with his hand on my face.....sooooo cute!

DP is outside putting some decking down today, trying to get the garden nice so Olly can play out there. Lots of swearing coming from the direction of the back door.... !

Grand national this afternoon! My one bet of the year! Oliver has picked his horse, by managing to get hold of the newspaper and rip out a tiny piece which happened to have the horses name and jersey on it! Grin

Dixie - I wouldnt worry to much yet, it was the first go after all and (TMI) mine did stretch out a bit! But like cinammon said the perineum(sp) sometimes hurts if its the wrong position. We we're back in the saddle after about 3/4 weeks but everyone is different. To be honest we're so bloody tired we hardly ever manage it anymore!

Sorry for mega post!

lumpybananapuree · 09/04/2011 18:45

Dixie bit of discomfort here to. & stinging after! I second the Wine suggestion too! Seems pretty normal! If I could be bothered, some lubricant would probably help here too!

Some strange goings on here today. A pint glass literally exploded in the kitchen. a loud bang & glass went everywhere. It was really frighteneing cos we were all in the kitchen & it went with such force that glass landed the other side of the room. We were all lucky not to get hit. I'm trying to be sensible & think of scientific explanations but my mind keeps drifting back to the fact the house is built on the site of a well know old mental hospital & on wed dh found a piece of pot that said mental hospital on it that is currently sat in the utility! might go and bury it again. Just incase!

Go Orlaith & Olly you great standing babies.

I've decided today that I'm going to take advantage of the kit days at work. I can have up to 10 & they're paid so it will soften the blow of 3 months no pay help out financially. I'm also actually looking forward to getting back to work. I adore my babies & love being with them, but my job is also part of my life and who I am so I really feel I want to get back! ds1 was only 3 weeks older than Olly is now when I went back after having him!

Well, I hope everyone is enjoying this lovely weather, we've had the 1st bbq of the year & it was lovely! i've even managed to get a bit of a tan! Just need to work on the legs!

Oooh! thanks for the lovely lentils recipe, it went down a treat!

newmum001 · 09/04/2011 19:44

Hi all,

dixie - sex is still a bit painful here too, well not exactly painful but somewhat uncomfertable at times. I find it hurts a bit more if im on top but on bottom i can't relax as i'm scared dp will get too carried away so it's a bit of trial and error recently but it's loads better than it was a few months ago so keep trying and if it doesn't get better maybe make an appointment with your GP.

Chelle - so glad you had a lovely time. We're booking a long weekend away at the start of august and i can not wait!

Lumpy - was the glass near the window, if it's been hot near you then the heat could have caused the glass to smash. Although i'd be nervous about it aswell especially having found the peice of pot! Bury the pot where you found it and see if that helps.

Grace is really suffering with teething, she now has 7 teeth and at least another one about to break through any minute. 2 have come through today!! It seems like she's been non stop teething since she was 2 months old and she's really in pain recently i feel so sorry for her. I gave her an ice pop out of the freezer this afternoon and it really really seemed to help. Plus she has barely touched her bottles all day so she's extra grouchy cause she's not eaten much but she cries so much whenever anything goes near her mouth! My poor baby i wish there was something i could do but we've been giving calpol and teething gels etc so we're doing everything we can really!!
