Well Orlaith's been loads better this afternoon/evening so I'm a happier mummy. Smile
However I weighed her at my dad's on his scales. They're expensive ones that are accurate to 1/4lb. She weighed 19lb 4oz!!!!! Shock That means she's gone from the 25th centile at birth, to the 75th from about 3 weeks to 22 weeks, and now the 91st centile!

Watersprite I started wearing a bra at 8 and started periods at 9 too but I honestly can't remember when I became moody.
I hope your nan's fall hasn't affected her too badly.

lumpy Orlaith's been wanting to be stood up pretty much since she was born and does happily take her weight and jump loads but I think you should be glad Olly's not doing it, it's hard work holding the big fat baby up for that long! Grin

saoirse86 · 29/03/2011 19:37

lumpy you're a nurse and you went funny cutting your finger? Are you one of those weird people who can deal with anything but only if it's on someone else?! Wink

lumpybananapuree · 29/03/2011 19:49

Saoirse They may be accurate scales but unless they're calibrated the same they might not weigh the same as the health visitors if that makes sense. I weigh olly on mine (also accurate) but there's a 6oz difference between them & the hvs!

As for the the cut, It was a very sharp knife!!!!! I've never gone funny before! its quite funny that I did. Usually the only things that make me go funny are things that I can see hurt people. an epidural, toenail removal, that kind of thing!

MammyG · 29/03/2011 21:40

Hellew all!
Well I decided that I was going to start heading to bed nice and early so that I wouldnt feel like a knackered ol bag all day long. Packed myself up the stairs at ten and was asleep before 11. The woken at 4am and kept awake til 6.30!! WTF!!! She knows! and she is just testing me! Wonder if she will find looney mom as nice as knackered mom? Hmm Seriously tho she was doing until 6.30 ...please let this be a blip and please let me have a few nights where all 3 of my children realise that their health and happiness depends on me getting 6 hours sleep!
On top of the Phoebe has started shouting and making the oddest noise. Its really irritating in the morning - she does it well up til her nap time! And when you look at her she just beams up like its the funniest thing ever and squeals bab and yep! She is going to be such a rascal - her eyes are full of devilment!
DH and I starting a really serious no eating type detox next monday! Ugh! The things I do for love!

Cinnamon I have a tattoo that means a lot to me and am thinking of having another. I was actually thinking of stars too or something! Told DH and he said it will mean I will stay freezer fresh for more than 3 months!

comixminx · 29/03/2011 22:05

Aphra's another who loves taking her weight on her legs and standing up, and has done since she was much tinier. Don't think she's in much danger of leaping up into the 91st centile though! Haven't weighed her for ages mind you.

We're trying to move her into her own room (gasp!) and cot (gasp again!) but last night she was poorly with teething and the night before too, so the trials were truncated. She's had a lovely day with my mum today though, who managed to get her to have two good naps during the day (not in her cot). Tonight A has gone into her cot without too much difficulty, but let's see if she stays there...

I haven't got any tattoos - was thinking of having one some ten years ago but never got round to it! Don't think I'll bother now.

SeaChelles · 30/03/2011 08:59

Hi guys - 2 quick questions if you dont mind?!

Can I give Olly tuna now? I know not loads because of the mercury in it - but can he have some for lunch mixed in with his veg? He's had meat of every description now - but looking for an easy lunch for today. And can it be in brine - or does it have to be in something special?

Also - those with experience of boys - when did they find there willies/todgers/trouserworms/sausage?! Everytime we take Olly's nappy off he starts fiddling with it straight away! Should I discourage or just let him get on with it as long as he's not trying to tear it off!? My feeling is to just let him get on with it - but any prior experience?

Cheers all.x

mapletrees · 30/03/2011 09:29

Hey Chelle. I'm not sure whether it's a problem to give him tuna now, but my Annabel Karmel book specifically excludes tinned tuna when talking about the benefits of oily fish. She doesn't say why, maybe the canning process distroys some of the nutrients? Also, I'm being very careful about salt so I would give it if it was in brine. I've been giving Louis frozen salmon and am going to buy some frozen mackrel in my next big shop. I think it's ok to cook it then mush and refreeze if necessary for convenience - just make sure you reheat it very thoroughly.

Also, Louis has been playing with his willy in the bath for a few months, and the last couple of weeks every time I take his nappy off his hands are straight down there Grin (although Angry when he's done a poo). I think it's just the next thing they discover after their hands and feet, I'm just letting him get on with it Grin

mapletrees · 30/03/2011 09:38

would n't give it if it was in brine

cinnamongreyhound · 30/03/2011 10:00

I buy tuna in spring water for the children Seachelles, haven't given it to Luke but did ds1 from quite early, use same guidelines as when pregnant. Think the willy thing depends on baby ds1 has never really bothered with his, had a slight interest when potty training and only in pants and Luke is pulling his all the time! I figure they won't pull it too hard because it'll hurt otherwise I don't bother to do anything. There are 4 of them in my house most of the time and dh is worse than the boys so I don't waste my time Wink

Luke is all of a sudden sitting really well!! He also rolled back to front for first time but couldn't get his arm out so rolled back Grin

saoirse86 · 30/03/2011 11:05

Orlaith's always putting her hand down there when I change her nappy and she has nothing to grad hold of! Hmm

Orlaith's started to do baby talk constantly for a few days now. She's done it a bit since she was a couple of months but not like this. It's really weird, it's like she's trying to tell you something. And she's refusing to say mama now, just dada Envy I think DP may have had something to do with this!

I'm going to get my hair cut for the first time in a year while! Grin

mapletrees · 30/03/2011 12:52

Envy the haircut saoirse

lumpybananapuree · 30/03/2011 13:01

Chelle I'd avoid the brine too cos of the salt content. Olly had mackrel the other day and loved it! Its hard to keep thinking of new things to give but they don't know they've had the same thing all week! Poor Olly dob dob has had sausage & lentil casserole everyday for the last 2 weeks!

As for the "winkie" thing Ds1 sounds like your ds1 cinnamon never really fussed about it. A little bit more aware now we're using the potty a bit but doesn't mess. Olly still hasn't found his either! I'd just leave him to it!

MammyG lol at the freezer safe comment! I'd like a tatoo but am too much of a wimp I think!

lumpybananapuree · 30/03/2011 13:03

Oh and those of you that use the teething powders, where do you get them from?? My friends looked all over and can't find them!

SeaChelles · 30/03/2011 13:53

Thanks all - I defrosted some turkey mince in the end and he had that with some veg. Only had tinned stuff in brine in the house and was waiting in for new furniture so couldnt nip out in time for lunch!

Glad to hear he's not the only one fiddling about down there! Smile

Lumpy - I get Nelsons powders from Boots, they are with the childrens calpol and such like. They also do Ashton and Parsons ones.

Well I just built the new coffee table.....only a dresser, a sideboard and a TV cabinet to go.....!! Need a Wine after I've finished!

SeaChelles · 30/03/2011 13:53

Lumpy - FYI ASDA do them too.xx

cinnamongreyhound · 30/03/2011 14:00

I get mine from Tesco also found them on the website or you can buy them in Boots.

JodeyBogeyPicker · 30/03/2011 16:05

Just checking in! Been a while since I posted so will go back and catch up now. Hope you are all fine and dandy.

JodeyBogeyPicker · 30/03/2011 16:59

Gosh, lots to read.

Welcome back Skatergirl. Saoirse, glad to hear Orlaith is feeling better.

SeaChelle I love the fact that you try out different things with Olly. I'm so scared of giving Harlyn anything other than veg or fruit because of how long his colic lasted. I really need to start trying fish and meat now he's six months. Also thanks to those of you who gave advice on yoghurt as I bought some which i just noticed is probiotic so I'll make sure i only use it for us and buy some plain for him.

Harlyn has been a little bit miserable for a couple of days so I defo think he'll have his top teeth coming through soon. He has started rolling really well. He has also started rolling onto his front in his sleep resulting in him waking up trying to roll back onto his back or stuck against the rails. Even though he can roll back onto his back he still does it whilst simulateously whining. He is sitting up really well too and is also in the "I just want to stand and bounce" club. I am just loving this age as he chuckles at anything I do. I could be a presenter on CBeebies as I'm always jumping around like a loony trying to get a cheap giggle.

I tried to go without his Gaviscon today in his milk and he was just sick sick sick so can't see the reflux getting better anytime soon.

newmum001 · 30/03/2011 20:31

Oh My God i've got the baby from hell this week. She's got 3 teeth ready to come through at the top and she's in a foul mood which is understandable but she's whining and moaning and crying CONSTANTLY!! Plus she's decided to cut a bottle and a nap out so is now having 4 bottles 3(ish) meals and two sleeps which has worked really well so far but today i went to get her weighed so she fell asleep in the pram too early for her afternoon nap and she's been a pain in the bum cause she's not slept properly. Rant over!!

On the subject of getting her weighed tho the health visitor has really upset me, she was born on the 9th centile but jumped up to the 50th at 3 weeks and slowly crept up to the 91st at 20 weeks, had her weighed today at 28 weeks and she's 20lb 14oz and she's now on the 98th centile. Bearing in mind she's been on solids since about 20 weeks and didn't cut a bottle out until monday so she's been getting more calories.

Anyway the health visitor suggested that she's gaining weight too quickly but offered no advice about it and basically suggested im over feeding her. So i pointed out that she hasn't been measured (length) since the day she was born and while she might be on a high centile for weight she was also twice as long as most of the babies in there and she's beautifully in proportion. Also while she had her nappy off she spotted that grace has got a bit of nappy rash (she's had it for two weeks and sudocreme has really cleared it up she's only got a couple of spots left) she asked me how long she's had it so i said a couple of weeks but explained that she's teething pretty bad and has had really runny poos etc and she had a go at me for not getting anti biotics for a fungal infection. If i thought for one second she had that id have taken her to the doctors but it's just nappy rash!! She did the rounds then, having a go at everyone for either under weight or over weight babies. I felt like pointing out that if her own weight was plotted on a centile chart she'd find herself on a diet pretty quick. I don't normally comment on peoples weight (i'm no skinny minnie myself) but she's really pissed me off.

Chelle seeing as your the baby meal queen, can they have pork? Also how did you cook ur turkey mince did you just boil it and then blend it?

SeaChelles · 30/03/2011 20:40

Thanks jodey Grin Although am running out of idea's now! Got some cheese sauce to try and noticed a fruity curry sauce for 7mths+ yesterday too.

Newmum - yes they can have pork - Olly had Sausages and beans for tea tonight. Loved it! And I just fry my Turkey mince in the pan (no oil just a dry pan) and then mix in it with his veg, it only makes tiny lumps you see and he is pretty used to them now. Bad about the HV making you feel like that - I would have said what you were thinking! Wink but thats just me getting myself in trouble!

newmum001 · 30/03/2011 20:53

Also regarding the choking on chunks she said i HAVE to start giving toast etc as she won't get used to it otherwise so i pointed out that she chokes and throws up everything she's eaten so far that day and she gave me a withering look and said i need to keep it up. So i said that basically what she was sugesting was for me to give my baby something that i know will make her sick and she got all embarrassed cause everyone was listening and insisted that that wasn't what she meant and that i know my baby and what she is and isn't ready for.

Grrrrr im so angry, just had a kinder bueno though so feeling slightly better Grin

mapletrees · 30/03/2011 21:02

So, we put Louis in his own room for the first time tonight Shock. He settled really easily (but I think he was just the right amount of tired iykwim). I'm expecting him to end up in our bed a usual at some point tonight, but I'm really looking forward to going to bed early and reading a book (oh the luxury Smile).

Sorry you're having such a crap week newmum. And as for the hv, if Grace is healthy and looks in proportion to you then I wouldn't worry about it Smile

I'm having my first Wine in ages - half way through and I'm already feeling slightly pissed, to think I used to keep up with the blokes...

lumpybananapuree · 30/03/2011 21:10

Ha ha ha! Newmum you should've said something! I think its a qualification some hv get. How to belittle mums & make them feel crap. If you think she's in proportion & doesn't look too big then go on that. Did she measure her length? Gonna jump in on your question about mince. I seem to remember you saying you had a slow cooker. if you slow cook it it makes it really soft and would maybe be easier for grace to handle.

newmum001 · 30/03/2011 21:15

No she didn't but i've just been looking on the length chart and even though she was born on the 9th centile for weight she was on the 75th for length and if she's more than 72 centimetres at 6 months (which i'm sure she is) then she's off the chart. I'll be getting the tape measure out tomorrow.

Good idea about the slow cooker i forgot about that!

cinnamongreyhound · 30/03/2011 21:23

I had the same with ds1 newmum001, he was ebf until 23 weeks and no one cared he was on 98th centile. As soon as I started weaning it was omg what are you feeding him!! I stressed, cut down on dairy and eventually thought why am I doig this. He was 21lb 14 at 27 weeks btw. He is now a 3 stone almost 4 year old ho is totally in proportion and a very healthy little man who eats most things. I have to say I slightly agree about the lumps/finger foods I'm not saying at all force feed her or push it BUT I know several children with real problems because they didn't have lumps and their mums were paranoid about gagging. I would suggest doing it slowly, try mixing rice with her purée and see how she goes and only offer very soft finger foods not toast it's too sharp, Luke never gags on roast parsnips for example. I think it's really rubbish that she didn't offer you any practical advice though and perhaps you should see another hv or visit your local childrens centre if you feel you would like more support.

Yay for harlyn JodeyBogeyPicker, glad your crazy antics can cheer him up Grin

I cannot believe how well Luke can sit!! He's been doing it all day and not falling over at all Shock. Had slight disagreement on fb with someone I don't know that well but see in the playground, it's so dangerous for saying the wrong thing!
