We were hoping our local one would stay open as it is not totally govt funded, they have just told the staff that they will not have a job in April.

Lucy still not rolling either.

lumpybananapuree · 03/03/2011 19:09

Cinnamon Its funny you should say that (about ds1 just going off) He did! Him and his little girlfriend just went off into the toddler bit together! Never came to ask me to go with him! Olly went to sleep so I got to just sit & drink my latte & catch up with the girls Grin
How wierd about the chart for his age! did you ask to see it??? does it make him a year when he's only 11 months Confused

My mil doesn't know how to play either. she's got 3 children and 8 grandchildren. She just sits and winds him ALL the time!

Debs what a shame about your surestart centre! I know they've been reviewing the funding round here!

Chelle are you ever happy??? You moan that he doesn't roll then you moan that he does! Wink

Wine time!

SeaChelles · 03/03/2011 19:14

aah shut up lumpywumpy! Wink and i never moaned that he couldnt roll! he's been doing it since xmas on and off! haha! :p

cinnamongreyhound · 03/03/2011 19:37

Slight moan, one of my mums was supposed to pick up her son at 4 but actually turned up at 6.45! Led to very grumpy dh, quick dash round local tesco instead of normal big shop which I will now have to do Saturday and a screaming baby who is having his milk now and will hopefully go to sleep grrrrr!!!

comixminx · 03/03/2011 19:56

Funny about the PILs who don't know how to play - my MIL doesn't know how to play with Aphra and in fact hardly picks her up, but FIL is great with her and is happy to play with her, dandle her, feed her, distract her...

cinnamon, what a pain about the late pick-up! Hope you at least get paid for the extra time?

Aphra has been rolling a lot today, enjoying it, and generally being very happy, but she started fussing and being inconsolable in the late afternoon and early evening. She had a very red cheek and was chomping on my finger, and had entirely refused to have a late afternoon nap (uncharacteristic) so we gave her some Calpol and it calmed her right down immediately. Yay Calpol! After her bath she then went to sleep pretty much immediately too, so she really was tired. Fingers crossed that we see a tooth shortly, to reward us all for the trouble!

Being in France is a lovely change - tasty food and nice countryside. We also are required to show Aphra off at regular intervals as the whole village knows about her - she's the PILs only grandchild so they are super-proud. This afternoon we were in a hall in the village and about four old ladies cooed over her and said how sweet she was - one of them, commenting on her sweet nature, said "Elle n'est pas sauvage", which I was very amused by! (translates as she's not wild, I suppose.)

lumpybananapuree · 03/03/2011 20:29

OK. Finally gonna admit! Got a bit of a dilema going on!

I don't know if we've chosen the right name! I really like Oliver/Olly but it just doesn't feel right! Its been bugging me since he was born, dh and I even had a "have we made the right choice" conversation when he was a couple of weeks old! I need to speak to dh but I think I want to change it! Sad

Dixiebell · 03/03/2011 20:41

Thanks for all your reassuring words about swimming. We enjoyed it. Arlo screamed in the changing room before and after but was fine in the pool, although there was a 4 month old who screamed all the way through which made some of the other babies upset too. Arlo had a couple of sobs in empathy, but was mostly happy and splashing about at the end.

My MIL is weird with Arlo too, when she holds him she looks so uncomfortable, she kind of stands there bending one leg and resting him on it and he kind of dangles weirdly! I think, just sit down if he's too heavy fir you, but she seems to think she has to stand with him. She is retiring soon and keeps threatening offering to come and stay for longer to 'help out' once she does, but I know that will just be more stressful rather than helpful. Also means that I end up spending my time cooking, cleaning and entertaining her, I'd rather entertain the baby!

Going into London tomorrow to visit work colleagues and have lunch. First time since Arlo born, wish me luck!

MammyG · 03/03/2011 21:12

Lumpy What are you thinking of changing it too? A friend of mine was two when her da decided he really couldnt accept her name and changed it! He started using her second name instead so there wasnt any changing of documents etc.

Lovely day here. sunny tho cold. Went to the beach this afternoon with all 3 and just watched birds ducky diving and played around. It was only for an hour but just set the tone for a nice easy going evening. I have started seeing a counsellor to help deal with anxiety/stress etc and find that for about 24 hours after seeing him Im able to do the 'living in the moment' stuff. The kids are already starting to love thurs .. If im not careful they will be lining up more sessions behind my back to keep me calm! Grin

Dixie I realise you are well used to london but was just thinking it has been a lifetime since I was there. I would love to go back. Enjoy your lunch and the city buzz

lumpybananapuree · 03/03/2011 21:18

Was gonna say We're but haven't actually mentioned it to dh that it still bothers me. His middle name is James and I'm thinking Jamie. It was on our list & i think it suits him! How did the change go? 2 is a difficult age to do that!

cinnamongreyhound · 03/03/2011 21:21

I still feel similar about Luke, dh just laughed at me so I guess it's not going to happen, I'm sure I'll get used to it! I really like it as name just not sure it should be his name. Pretty sure people would think I was a total nutbag though (not suggesting you are of course!)

lumpybananapuree · 03/03/2011 21:30

cinnamon I am! I'm not sure if its because Toby is just perfect (the name for him, not him Wink) Olly just seems.......... I can't even explain! just not right. I love the name (I also love Luke, Lucas was my 2nd choice. well, maybe my 1st choice) I wonder if thats it. I chose oliver because I know its was dhs preference over that and Lucas. not sure that lucas would've been right either but the more I look at him & think Jamie, the more i think it suits him. God, I'm rambling, sorry!

cinnamongreyhound · 03/03/2011 21:34

Very similar, I knew James was James the moment he was born but this time I let dh decide and my heart wasn't totally in it.

lumpybananapuree · 03/03/2011 21:40

well thats that! dh has just come home! he likes olly! not up for discussion!

Dixiebell · 03/03/2011 22:27

Ah, lumpy, I bet he'll grow into it. When he's old enough to know his own name, maybe it'll feel more natural?

mammy, thanks. Should be good. We moved from London to Hampshire when I was 5 months preggers, although I carried on commuting in. But haven't been back since I went on mat leave. Will be first time on a train with Arlo. Lunch is at a v nice restaurant where my BIL is manager, not sure how child friendly, but he has promised us a table with space for a buggy!

Arlo is getting on well with his doidy cup - he holds it and tips it towards his mouth. Of course milk goes everywhere and it wouldn't do for night feeds, but has made me excited about weaning. Anyone else use one? I'm wondering about getting a freeflow beaker too which might be less messy, but would it be better just to train him to drink straight from the cup and bypass spouts altogether?

cinnamongreyhound · 04/03/2011 03:42

I think I said before one of my minded children had one and was a pain. She did drink well from it eventually but when out you have the take their drink in something else, it would often get grabbed or knocked and end up everywhere and she drank very little from it. Ds1 used to drink from my glass just because he was interested in what I had and so learned to drink from that quite young too and my minded little girl often has a beaker now when out and about as I think her mum has decided it's easier too but if you get on with it why not!

SeaChelles · 04/03/2011 08:43

Well Olly had the best night sleep he's had in nearly a month! Mummy and Daddy DID NOT!

Olivers new found "ooh I can roll in my cot!" trick, means that he now rolls over pretty much as soon as you put him down. First on to his side, then he has worked out how to push off the bars to get himself all the way over! (we caught him doing it when we were getting his bath ready last night!) This however meant that he ended up sleeping on his tummy right at the top of his cot causing the alarm to go off three times in the night because it couldnt pick him up!

The alarm didnt wake him which is great, I need to have a fiddle with it and reposition now that he's up so it doesn't keep doing it! We dont really mind - he slept well and we know the alarm works! Hehe. Smile

I was wondering though (prob stupid question) - but we turned him back on to his back each time we found him on his tummy (to stop alarm going off), but once I have repositioned this, is it really necessary for me to turn him back over now that he is putting himself on his belly? I dont really think its an issue as we wouldnt have known he'd turned til this morning if the alarm hadnt gone off right? Sounds even more daft now I have written it! Wink

Was really difficult to get back to sleep eachtime as he was in this new position and was panicking he'd forget to turn his head and suffocate! Silly mummy!

saoirse86 · 04/03/2011 11:07

MammyG If you feel so calm and relaxed after each session, are there things you can do to get that feeling the rest of the week? Could you have a chat with DH at night maybe? I've found that yoga breathing works a treat for me! Grin

Lumpy could you give him a nickname so it's not like you're changing it completely? OJ? Does that bring up Simpson connotations?! Confused Lots of my family go by different names in different situations. It's because of the tradition of naming the eldest girl after the mum and eldest boy after the dad. So my nan and aunt are both officially Mary Jane but known as Maura and Jean. If you really don't feel you'll ever be comfortable with it then you do need to discuss it properly with your DH. Good luck with that! Hmm

Chelle If he seems like he's comfortable then I'd say leave him. I know the advice is against it but lots of people still put their babies on their front even at a much younger age. Also it means you're not constantly fighting a losing battle trying to get him onto his back and can get a better night's sleep.

lumpybananapuree · 04/03/2011 11:29

Chelle Ollys slept on his tummy since birth. If he hadn't we would never have slept. Even now if you put him down asleep on his back he wakes straigh up! No need to keep rolling him. It sounds like he slept better like that.

Dixie I never got on with the doidy. I found spouts much easier & ds1 just decided one day he wanted a big cup and was absolutely fine.

I've picked up the pixiephotos today. The free one is crap but the others are gorgeous! I'll try and take a phot of them!

mammy a lot of my family are known by their middle names for various reasons. I don't really know what to do!

I'm going out to a friends house tomorrow. We're having a girls night! Its turned into a "lets find the old drinks night!" I've got a bottle of kiwi 20/20 in the kitchen! Very excited! Grin

Debs75 · 04/03/2011 12:28

Lumpy I couldn't get to grips with dd2's name for ages. I was quite happy to leave her with no name for a while but dp was insistent. Every name I suggested he hated then he suggested Robyn, he is a huge batman nerd. i went along with it then when she was a few months old had a wobbler as i felt out of control and I considered changing it. I'm glad I didn't now, even tho it took me a while to like it for her, I had even suggested it when I was pregnant i just went off it when she was born.
With Lucy I gave him a list of 5 names and told him to pick one, it wasn't my 1st choice but it was at least one of my choices.

lumpybananapuree · 04/03/2011 13:39

Here they are! olly olly

cinnamongreyhound · 04/03/2011 13:45

So glad the counsellor is helping MammyG and that you are all benifiting from the improvements.

I think once they can get from front to back on their own you let them sleep however they like SeaChelles. Yay for Olly's good night sleep and boo for your rubbish one, hope you get the alarm sorted!

I love the name Robyn Debs75 and my best friends little girl is called Lucy (one of my minded children has just called his dog Lucy so she's not impressed with that!) so I always think of her when you talk about your Lucy even though she's 2!

Such a beautiful day here today! We met with a friend of mine this morning, her baby is due 28th July. With her first her placenta got stuck and she ended up in intensive care. She saw her notes 2 weeks ago with her consultant and she actually lost 5 litres of blood! They have told her she has to have a caesarian this time and if her placenta is stuck again then she will have to have a hysterectomy. She seems to be taking it very well and will have an extra scan at 28 weeks to give them more details and make the decision :(

cinnamongreyhound · 04/03/2011 14:59

SHIT! being inspected in two weeks , aaarrgghh! Looks like I'll be spending every spare moment filling in Ofsted's SEF and getting my learning journey's and risk assessments upto date. On the plus side the inspector sounded very nice unlike my last one who was pure evil :(

Debs75 · 04/03/2011 15:05

Thanks cinnamon a lot of people have said they like Robyn since we named her. what didn't help with me was I liked it but I felt DP had taken control and he named her before I was ready to share her with the world. IYSWIM. I know of 3 dogs called Lucy but if anyone asks it is the little girl form Lion, Witch and Wardrobe which inspired me.

we have dismanteld Lucy's cot so she is in with us permanently. we were getting a bit amorous and DP knocked it over. I tried to fix it but got slightly peeved with it so took it apart. we have a bed guard on now so she can't roll out. We will have to think what we are going to do next, not many options when they are 4 in the room

watersprite · 04/03/2011 15:10

newmum001 i've got a rain forest jumperoo, she's ok in it for about 10 mins. 'I'm hopeing as she gets older she will entertain it a lot more Smile

Last night was more of an improvement from the other night constantly waking every half hr. I did give her the dummy back after 3 days without it. I thought well she still wakes every half hr anyway and she just kept screaming last night so gave it her back. She managed 5 hrs without waking Grin she's also taking formula much better these last couple of days.

Health visitor came yesterday, i explained how I was finding it really difficult getting her to sleep without waking all the time. She suggested trying baby led weaning and foods, such as toast, boiled egg mashed, inside of a jacket potatoe, broccoli boiled, carrot boiled and cut into strips, banana, melon and giving her snacks . I think she's just a hungry baby with a big appetite. I tryed her on toast with the edges cut off as a snack and she loved it. I really thought Maria-Ann was 23+3 and it turns out she's 24+3 i've totally lost a week Confused

comixminx · 04/03/2011 16:50

Aphra's been a bit less interested in food over the past couple of days, and hasn't had a dirty nappy for a couple of days either. We were fearing a poo-splosion during tomorrows trip back to the UK! so I remembered a tip I saw here, about giving a bit of orange juice mixed with boiled water. It might have been a coincidence of course but she had a full dirty nappy less than half an hour later!
