Dixie - yum!

Well I can officially do no more! Olly had some pasta to chew on earlier (dont actually think he ate any mind!), a huge dinner of mushed green beans, raisins and apples, yog pog for pudding. He's got a bigger nappy on for bed in case its the wet nappy thats waking him and has just nailed 8.5oz of hungry baby milk before going to bed. If he's still awake all night - am stumped and I give in! Confused

At least if he's up and down tonight like he has been the last week or so then I know I there's nothing more I can do! I've even put a bigger babygro on him the last 2 nights as his were getting a teeny bit too small - just in case he felt to restricted! Am I going mad?! Actually, dont answer that! Hmm

I think it must be a growth spurt, because his teeth dont appear to be bothering him anymore than they have the last 3 months! And he's been feeding twice in the night the last 3 days - which he hasnt done since he was 6 weeks old.

Are all the poorly ones out there feeling any better?

Olly, 22+2

lumpybananapuree · 01/03/2011 20:28

Dixie stinky keyboard! Nice!

Ds1s had his 1st big boy haircut at the barbers! He looks so grown up, his ears stick out & his head looks flatter! Sad

MammyG · 01/03/2011 20:42

Debs I use paralink at times. Cause its a suppository theres no worrying about throwing it up and how much they are getting etc. I find it takes care of temperatures in no time.

So sewing lady has had chicken pox but she is going on a holiday next week with someone who hasnt had them. What are the chances of her passing it on to them? And what are the chances of her getting shingles?

I had a 'chasing my tail' kind of morning which was all made better by an afternoon visit with my friend who had loads of cake! And we have planned another friday fest with all the kids, take out and a wee pyjama party before I bring them home to bed. Isnt it amazing how sometimes as friends kitchen table and nice cuppa can be a lifesaver!

newmum001 · 01/03/2011 20:46

Bloody hell i've just had to do a mamouth catch up and now can't seem to remember much of what i've read or who said what.

watersprite (i think) sorry your having a shit time recently. Grace's gums were really really bothering her her this weekend and DP's cousin advised Anbesol, you can get it from the pharmacy but don't need a prescription, we got some on sunday and it really is amazing!! It stimks and Grace hates the taste of it but it really does seem to ease the pain. Also if your LO isn't keen on the bottle have you tried her with a beaker thing? Grace really went off her milk a couple of weeks ago and flat out refused to put the bottle in her mouth so out of desperation i put it in a beaker and she drank more that way! I think if their teething sucking on a bottle can hurt a bit.

Chelle Grace's sleep has been so up and down the last few weeks, one night she was up 4 time and that has never happened before i was nearly crying with exhaustion so i think there might be some kind of growth spurt at 5 months!

Hope all the poorly babies are feeling better!!

lumpybananapuree · 01/03/2011 20:59

Mammy all of them should be fine. She's had it & so is immune so won't carry it to pass it on. You can catch chicken pox from shingles but not shingles from chicken pox! (I'm sure thats the right way round!) And to be honest you could be sneezed on by a member of the public in the supermarket & have just as much chance of catching it!

patito · 01/03/2011 21:11

Hello,

Just caught up on 10 pages!!! Sorry I din't get back to you about meet up, kinda of knew it would happen this way. Got back to England on the Friday and haven't sat down since. Finally tonight have a minute to catch. sounds like you had a good afternoon at the met up (and mini-meet-up!).

sassy COngratulations, thats wonderful news. I cant believe it. It feels like only 2 minutes since we were all pregnant.

Dixiebell · 01/03/2011 21:37

All those who've done swimming with your LOs, can I ask, what do they wear? I've got a Bambino Mio swim nappy for Arlo, but I'm not convinced it'd contain his best efforts iyswim! I know some swim schools do double nappies - a disposable underneath - but this nappy is quite small, like a pair of pants, rather than shorts, and would be a bit weird having a bigger disposable one underneath...what have you guys used?

SeaChelles · 01/03/2011 22:04

dixie we go at least once a week and we use huggies little swimmers. no double bagging or anything! just those and his trunks!

watersprite · 01/03/2011 23:31

Hi Ladies :)

Well Maria-Ann did all night without her dummy Grin I feel so proud of myself for not giving in Grin She did wake up most of the night but I expect she's just getting use to not having it. She did manage 3 whole hours in her swing so that's a massive improvement from waking every half hour Wink She's been in her cot since 9.45 and I haven't heard a murmer out of her, usually she won't go to sleep till gone 12 and then she wakes constantly. I'm really hopeing this continues Wink

newmum001 Thanks Smile I will get some anbesol tomorrow, will try anything to just relieve her. Also I never thought about a beaker will be getting one of those too. What kind of beakers are your little ones using? I dont know if to get the none spill one, can't remember what dd1 used Confused

Can't wait for dd1 to open her presants tomorrow, she will be 8. Got a card with sister on from Maria-Ann Grin can''t believe this time last year I was pregnant.

Maria-Ann 23 wks

cinnamongreyhound · 02/03/2011 00:37

I just use a swim nappy and nothing else Dixebell, have boots ones at the moment but also huggies.

I never used non spill ones watersprite as I was told with ds1 that they are almost as bad for teeth as bottles due to the type of sucking. After a while of using normal ones ds1 couldn't actually get anything out of the non spill ones! I just used tommee tippee first beakers for both and ds1 has had all sorts since then. I'm a bit of a beaker collector!! I love the ones with pop out straws when they're older Grin

Glad you had a lovely time patito!

patito · 02/03/2011 07:30

morning, St Davids I love daffs!

will continue after being rudely called away last night.Smile.

Hope everyones starting to feel a bit better now. We've had some sniffles but so far hasn't worsened.

Well our holidays are going well, have meet my teeny tiny nephew for the first time, hes gorgeous Smile. Have done loads of mum and baby things that dont go in for in Spain, and have managed to stuff in all my favourute meals (fish&chips, roast, and far too many chocolate hob nobs
. Just have to fit in an Indian before we fly back Grin.

Ive even watched one born every minute, have heard you lot going about it now for over a year so thought Id try and catchan episode. I miss good telly .

DS has been really grumpy since we arrived I think it might be lack of sleep as the kids timetableis really diferent here. But he is just crying all the time and generally unpleasent Sad.

Oh and can we join the tooth gang, Maia has cut her first tooth. I can see three more little white stumps ready to pop as well Shock.

Melly Ive got this,a and couldn't recommend it enough. Was originally going to buy the Ergo one but was the recommened this sling and its fab, so comfy can wear in 3 positions and DS (3 next mth) still goes in it.

happy birthday to little watersprite today Smile.

x

Dixiebell · 02/03/2011 10:44

I swear Arlo said 'mama' this morning! Prob just an accidental noise amongst all the general burbling. Any other LOs started making mama or dada type noises?

saoirse86 · 02/03/2011 10:54

Dixie Orlaith makes a lot of "mama" noises which makes me think I'll never be sure when she actually says it for the first time. I suppose just when she sees me or wants my attention maybe. Hmm

Chelle Orlaith kept sleeping really badly and feeding loads in the night and then just stopped again last thursday. She only woke up once last night which is very rare for her, so I'm sure it'll pass soon.

Orlaith bashed her head on her cot this morning and it looks like it's going to bruise. We're going to a baby massage class this afternoon at the children's centre so I hope they don't think I've done it! Hopefully they won't notice with all the roling about I'm sure she'll be doing! Grin

Patito not another carrier for me to look at too! I've been trying to work out which one would be best for around the house, shopping, walks, everything really and just can't decide Confused

saoirse86 · 02/03/2011 10:56

Ooh St Davids how exciting! What do they have for st patrick's day? Only 2 weeks to go! Grin

FriggFRIGG · 02/03/2011 11:21

warning-moan ahead!

RIGHT!!
wich one of you stole my perfect baby and replaced him with a whingy irritable, non sleeping little &%$?!!

I WANT SLEEP !

ITS NOT FAIR

he's all stuffy and coughy and grump,he's teething too ans sooo fussy,i know,i knoow, poor Arlo, but seriosly mate,if you slept you wouldt feel so crappy

also how do you cot users stop them getting there feet/chubby legs stuck in the cot bars?!!
i put our Bedside cot back up after he fell out of bed yesterday morningBlush but this morning he'd gotten his little fat leg stuck in the bars....he's too wrigglySad

newmum001 · 02/03/2011 11:56

Watersprite the HV's advised me to use just a regular beaker, got a tommee tippee 6 month+ one as she said it would be fine, it's got 2 holes in the sippy bit. Grace couldn't get anything out of the non spill ones and she was sucking like mad at it. The water did tend to go all over her at first so maybe try her while she's wearing just a vest unless you want your washing pile to spiral out of control but Grace has really got the hang of it now.

She's really really found her voice this last week or so, she's never been a quiet baby but my god she does not shut up these days, also she really can't be bothered to roll over, i know she can do it cause she's done it twice but she's just not interested at all!

I'm very jealous of the crawling baby (can't remember who it is) although i have a feeling Grace will be a nightmare when she can crawl!

FriggFRIGG · 02/03/2011 11:59

its my crawling baby...dont be Envy

i Envy all the non movers.

SeaChelles · 02/03/2011 13:54

Frigg - I put Olly in to a sleeping bag which stops his legs getting stuck. Nothing you can really do about the arms - but the bumper stops them getting caught for the most part. Olly has to have a sleeping bag on regardless as he wont entertain any kind of blanket. And if I remember rightly beadit has two extra long cot bumpers from ikea that cover all the bars so Jack doesnt get stuck. Smile

Olly met his Great Nanny and Great Grandpa for the first time this morning, as they are back visiting from Cyprus. He loved his Nan and sat on her lap for a whole half hour without making a peep. Which is very unusual for him - he normally cant keep still for 30 seconds! [confuse]

He's having a nap in his cot now. But after this initally going really well and him having up to 2 hours in it every afternoon he now wont stay there for more than 30 mins and then insists on being held for the remainder of his nap - any ideas how I can improve on this? He won't tolerate a muslin next to his face, trys to eat it.... Blush

Well last night was a little better - although he woke at 1:30am wet through - think the size 4 nappies are still a tiny bit too big. So dont know if the hungry baby milk did the job as he woke because he was wet. He did however have another 6 oz of it at 1:30am....so am guessing its pants! Hmm He then slept until 6am but didn't feed again til 7:30am.....

Saoirse - I hope you are right and that this is just a phase....! [fingers crossed emoticon!]

cinnamongreyhound · 02/03/2011 14:10

Don't worry saoirse86 if people thought I'd hit ds1 every time he had a bruise on his head I would never be allowed to care for other children let alone have kept him! He ALWAYS hit his head, nothing else, just his head.

Poor you and Arlo friggFRIGG! pretty sure I went home with the same baby I arrived with last week Wink

I love St Davids too! Never get bought any though.

lumpybananapuree · 02/03/2011 14:13

Perseverence (spelling!) chelle If you want him to stay sleeping in his cot, you might have to try leaving him. It will probably be awful for the first few days but eventually he'll get used to settling himself back off!

Watersprite I use the none spill ones once they have the hang of it until then the tommy tippee type ones 4mth+ ones that are just free flowing but I help them. Although they only have water in them so the washing isn't an issue here! I just leave them in soggy clothes! [bad mummy emoticon] Happy birthday to your dd1!

Got olly weighed today 17lb 2oz at 26 weeks. Ds1 was that at 49 weeks! My plan of the hand me down clothes is going out the window. Olly is now the same weight as ds1 was in June! Don't think i can get away with putting him in shorts just yet!

SeaChelles · 02/03/2011 14:17

But lumpylucy - he screams. And I mean breaking his heart screaming - like he's actually petrified. I tried leaving him yesterday and managed it for 10 mins before he sounded as if he was going to coke to death he was crying so hard. Its as if he wakes up and doesnt know where he is - even though he sleeps in there at night. In fact I can hear him stirring now - he's been up there 45 mins. Not too bad I guess....and there goes the screaming. I will leave him, I will leave him, I will leave him......he just ends up getting so distressed that he cant settle back off. Sad

We've got the tomee tippe 4month non spill beaker too lumpy and watersprite - Olly however prefers to chew it rather than suck it!

SeaChelles · 02/03/2011 14:26

He's gone back off.... Blush ....now I feel stupid.

FriggFRIGG · 02/03/2011 19:25

SEACHELLES 10 mins is along time to leave such a little baby,if you really want to do CC i'd try 2 mins, going and checking him/letting him know you're still around, and leave again.

this book might help.

it isnt no cry IMO,but it isnt, let them scream forever either.its a good middle ground, friends have had fantastic results with it,and found it nice to have a guidence.i read the toddler oneit was good, and we used some of it,but,TBH ive never let either of mine cry in bed longer than 2-3 mins.
i just cant.
its not that i think you shouldnt, just breaks my heart,id rather have no sleep than listen to that Blush

DD has been really sweet lately,Grin
it's like shes coming back to me,she has found the transition to big sister hard, she really trys her best bless her,but sometimes she just cant control her emotions and has a total melt down Sad

thanks for the sleeping bag tip i had wondered why he hadnt gotten stuck at night, only in the morning after DP changed his nappy Hmm Grin he didnt put his bag back on,numpty Grin

SeaChelles · 02/03/2011 20:05

Frigg, it worked after 7 mins today so I'm not worried. IMO I dont think a little bit of a cry is going to do him any harm. He's got far too used to me running in to check on him as soon as he cries and all it seemed to need was for him to realise that I wasn't going to come running. He may only be 5 months but he is very clever and worked out a long time ago that crying gains attention. Hopefully he will only have to cry a couple of times before he just settles himself back off quietly.

At then end of the day - someone isn't going to come running when he goes to nursery/childminder in a couple of months....I wish they would but they wont. Sad

newmum001 · 02/03/2011 20:20

Chelle i've been thinking the same as you, i know we're going to have to do CC, i just can't see any other way for Grace to learn how to settle herself. I've not tried it yet but she's going in her cot soon so i think we'll have to start thinking about it then. Also Grace has never liked going to sleep in anyones arms and the olny way i can get her to sleep during the day is in her bouncy chair or in the pram she needs the motion to get to sleep and even then it can take 30 mins for her to nod off even though she's obviously tired, like you i know that the nursery or child minder won't do that so i've got to sort it out before then. I'm dreading it but in the long run it will be best. Think i might ask DP to take a few days off work while we're trying it though as i know i'll be in bits listening to her cry Grin
