Luke still scratches himself at night SeaChelles but I just take it as one of those things you can't do anything about. I cut his nails every week to try and reduce it. I personally don't like scratch mits so he never had them. Babies always have cold hands and it never seemed to bother my two. Luke won't wear mittens while we are out, he somehow manages to wriggle out of them in minutes so I have given up trying. If he's asleep I pull the blanket over his hands otherwise they are freezing!

Annoying as it is I think it's quite cute that you dh is telling you hat Harlyn will do JodeyBogeyPicker Grin

24weeks + 2 teeth + no rolling still!

saoirse86 · 28/02/2011 11:17

Chelle I second what cinnamon said about scratch mitts. Orlaith has eczema and used to scratch a lot , not so much now, but I just gave up with them because she'd bite them off. I just try to keep her nails as short and neat as possible. And I was told that babies will often have cold hands and feet and if you're concerned just feel the top of their back to check if they're still warm there.
Also, I don't know if there's supposed to be a 5 month sleep regression but Orlaith's sleep went absolutely aweful for at least a week, waking every hour to hour and a half. She's been better the last few days so hopefully it'll pass soon for Olly too.

Watersprite I don't know what to say, it kind of sounds like you've tried almost everything. Even though the HV said to have a 4 hour gap between meals, what's your experience? Was she any better when they were closer together? HV's can be very helpful but IME if you asked advice from 5 HV's you'd get at least 3 different suggestions! Also like mammyG said, could you tried different formula, like either comfort or hungry baby?

MammyG it sounds like it could be your hormones causing the night sweats. Or otherwise could it be stress? Are you having bad dreams too?

Jodey it's nice that your DH is appreciating how much work it is looking after a young baby. Will you get him to speak to my DP and let him know too!! Wink I do find it quite amusing that I normally spend a couple of hours a week away from Orlaith when I go to yoga, and that's when DP usually invites his parents round! Grin

Orlaith 22+3? 23+3? Not sure! Confused

FriggFRIGG · 28/02/2011 12:03

i got my ERGO today!! it's fabbyGrin
i carried my 2.6yo in it for half an hour, and was fine,it was so nice to carry her again! Smile

Arlo is great in it too,and feels very light!

the nice thing about it is that you cant really get the positioning wrong, which can be quite hard at first with ring slings.yippie!

on the other hand, both DC's were up last night, stuffed up with a cold and a nasty cough Sad
and today DD's grandpa is supposed to have her,but he hasnt turned up Sad DD is pretty upset, and its a bit of a pain as i need to go out,but i dont want to miss him,i cant find his number and DP's not answering his phone,so im a bit stuck

JessemyParkson · 28/02/2011 13:16

chelle, I thought both Mothercare and Next still did babygro's with built in scratch-mitts up to 9 months. I don't use them with Mary either as she sucks on her fingers for comfort

It's all sicky-sicky here, as both DH and Mary are poorly :(

Mary has a problem with her left ear, and she's been up the past 3 nights with a permanent snotty waterfall nose, and gummy eyes (last night her eyes were actually glued together). Took her to the docs today, he found the ear inflammation, and he's prescribed her antibiotics if she gets any worse. But in the meantime, lots of cuddles, cardis and calpol. She's also started coughing today, poor lamb.

DH has inflamed sinuses again, so he's popping pills for that too.

JessemyParkson · 28/02/2011 13:18

Also, I have to prop the head of Mary's cot up a bit with some books... this should be fun, trying to find 2 books of the same size!

Debs75 · 28/02/2011 13:46

Poor Mary. I had to do that a lot with DD2 as she always gets wheezy when she has a bad cough so propping it up helps. If you can't find 2 books the same height then prop the mattress up instead. You can use anything for that as long as it is reasonably wide.

Chelle The matalan babygros had built in mitts and I really liked that as cold hands are not nice in the middle of the night when you are feeding.

Lucy is having a nice nap in her pram, her temp is lower now but she is still snotty and whingy.

SeaChelles · 28/02/2011 14:04

Thanks guys. I've given his nails a cut this morning and he is currently having a nap in his cot with mits on - lets see where they end up when he wakes!

Jessemy, I've got brand newies from both Mothercare and Next and unfortunately neither have built in mits in the 6-9 month size up. His 3-6 ones did from there though. Sorry to hear Mary is so poorly.

Debs - dont think I've got any matalan ones - but will have a look to see if they do them when I next go to shops. I agree cold hands when feeding are not nice - even though I bottle feed, Olly has this thing at the moment where he likes to rest his hand on my face when he is feeding in the night - chilly!

Cinammon - I managed to order some bickie pegs from ebay. Hopefully they will provide some relief for him. I know I had them as a child.

Here's a good vegetable puree idea for those doing there own at the min - Spinach, Butternut Squash and Swede. Made a batch up on Saturday and Olly goes nuts for it - quite like it myself too! Going to do some extra pasta with our tea tonight and give him some to try. Maybe chop a little up and start introducing a few lumps. He's doing ever so well with his food. Very impressed with him. Just wish his sleep would follow suit!

comixminx · 28/02/2011 15:30

Hi folks: we're in France! This is the first overseas visit for Aphra - seeing DP's parents (they last saw her at New Year). We went by train and the sling really came into its own: we had the pram too, because we wanted to be able to have her sleep in the carry cot a couple of nights, but she was in the sling for most of the journey, and the carrycot had bags init instead. Just as well, as you have to put the pram in the luggage compartment, folded up, so if you didn't have a sling you'd have to just hold your baby for hours!

Frigg, glad the sling has arrived safely & is good! Let me know if you figure out the back carry - we haven't tried it yet.

Sympathy to all the sickie babies and grownups there - get well soon!

mellymooks · 28/02/2011 16:31

Another sickie family here Sad we seem to have been trying to fight it off for weeks now, think it's harder when you're knackered and sleep deprived.

The meetup looked great last week so sorry we couldn't make it. Maybe we we can organise a south west one somewhere too at some point.

Well Flynn is sitting up and desperately trying to figure out how to move about but hasn't sussed it just yet.

frigg can't believe Arlo is on the move that much that's amazing! I'm intrigued by that sling is it really comfy? I'm yet to find one with straps that doesn't hurt me which is why I've always stuck with the cloth ones, but I would love to be able to carry DD around again too.

I'm impressed with you all off and zooming with the solids, we haven't even begun here.

We're off to visit my brother at the weekend, our first visit to somewhere that's not set up for kids at all so will be interesting......

lumpybananapuree · 28/02/2011 19:13

I was about to add another good puree idea. roast beef and cheese sauce. Olly absolutely wolfed it down and then a yogurt. a bath & 6oz later, he decided he didn't like it after all! The whole lot all over us both! OMG it stank! I can normally deal with sick but how I wasn't sick I'll never know! Not a bug here tho. e just randomly does it. He'd done really well too. had a sandwich for lunch. Debs does me holding the sandwich and him guiding it to his mouth count as blw Wink

Chelle asda sell bickiepegs!!!

Olly 26 weeks tomorrow!!!!!

watersprite · 28/02/2011 19:43

Hi Ladies :) thanks for all the advice, feel a little better in myself today even with the lack of sleep. Think it's because I sort of have a plan and I intead to stick to it Grin

SeaChelles when Maria-Ann worn mittens i had the same problem i would put them on and when I looked again they would be off. I found socks worked really well.

Maria-Ann is on aptamil comfort, I've tried hungry baby but it just seems to make her really windy. When i give her formula she would rather chew on the teat than drink it. She is really suffering with teething and it's got a lot worse in the past week. I've tried calpol, teething granules, bonjela, dentinox, bickie pegs but when she bites down she screams and teething rings. I will be suprised if there is anything left of her fingers the way she chews on them Shock

I've notice a bit of a difference with her meals being 4 hrly apart she doesn't seem to be as crabby during the day.

Well last night i totally crubbled and gave in with the dummy. I was so tired but tonight I intend to be much stronger Wink She hasn't had her dummy all day and has screamed quite a lot but i'm not giving up. She has had naps without it today so I know she can fall asleep without it. I have a comfort blanket which is attached to a little rabbit which I used last night. I've been using it all day and she really seems to like it so hopefully that may work tonight. She will also use her fingers to chew as comfort when falling asleep apart from when she chews to hard then screams.

It's my dd1 8th birthday on Wednesday, got presants sorted just need to wrap them. She really wants to have a friend stay over which I've agreed to. I'm taking them both for some tea out and then to watch tangled in 3d. I think I'm looking forward to getting out more than her Blush

I see there's a lot of little ones poorly, I hope they are feeling much better soon Smile

MammyG · 28/02/2011 19:44

Saoirse actually have trouble remembering my dreams but knowing me it probably is stressed related.

Well buggery bugger but today my lovely little niece broke out in chickenpox! She has been around all weekend and all about her lil cousin Phweedee!! So now have to wait for 10 days and see if she breaks out! The boys have had it but she is so young! And I was supposed to travel tomorrow to catch up with other cousin who is around for the week and her two but now cant cause Phoebe might infect the lot of them! I hate the isolation of these illnesses! Cant do anything. Also supposed to be having a sewing classes and as my tutor is 22 weeks pregnant will probably have to put that off for at least two weeks. (she comes to my house) Argh!!

lumpybananapuree · 28/02/2011 19:50

Mammy Ds1 had chicken pox at 10 months. I know thats older but it was actually easier cos he didn't know haw to scratch so didn't seem as bothered as other kids I've seen. He was absolutely covered, in his mouth and everywhere!

cinnamongreyhound · 28/02/2011 19:58

Ask her if she's had it MammyG and if she has no need to worry. One of my mindees had it at 4 months and she had millions of spots (seen the pics) but wasn't very poorly with it!

We saw Tangled in 2D last week watersprite it was great! Not sure ds1 would wear glasses all the way through and with the price of cinema tickets as it is I hate paying the extra for 3D. We took Luke and he was really good, watched some which was quite funny, had 2 feeds and a sleep so I saw it all Grin

Luke stayed awake late enough to have dinner with us, he had his purée and some rice (not sure he got any in his mouth though) and just sat with us which was lovely. Plus I got to put both boys to bed together and read them a story together, I also rubbed a bit of toothpaste on Lukes teeth as I haven't bought him a brush yet. Then my neighbour bought us 2 HUGE slices of cake as it's her dh birthday, good evening!

Dixiebell · 01/03/2011 07:19

Oh yes, just up with Arlo for the first time since he went to bed at 7 last night...love it!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/03/2011 08:10

Luke is alternating between 11-7 and being up 2 ish and 5 ish at the moment :(. I don't think his cough is helping, hoping all those with poorly baby's didn't have too bad a night.

Debs75 · 01/03/2011 08:41

Lumpybanana 'does me holding the sandwich and him guiding it to his mouth count as blw' Yes it does. I hold pieces of food upto Lucy and she either pushes them towards her mouth or takes them off me. Don't panic about him choking, if they feed themselves they rarely choke. He will gag quite a bit but that is because the gag reflex is so far forward.

Had a better night last night. I sponged Lucy down which helped the temp then just before her last feed I dripped calpol in her mouth. She really hates it so you have to drip it so slowly, and most of it she spits out. She woke up at 3, as usual, had a tiny suckle then slept till 6am. She is now sleeping with dp whilst I get kids off to school.

saoirse86 · 01/03/2011 11:19

I'm sorry to hear about all these poorly children. Orlaith's had a cold and snuffly nose for the last couple of weeks but she doesn't seem too fussed. TBH she's had so many snuffles since she was 2 months that she probably doesn't know any different!

She slept pretty well last night but woke up earlier than normal when DP got up, it's amazing how loud someone can be just getting dressed! Angry

The poor dog had a lump removed from her elbow (is it called an elbow on a dog? Hmm ) last week but it got infected and she had to go under again yesterday to remove more tissue. So she's had a cone on her head for 9 days so far and she's so grumpy. Aw!

saoirse86 · 01/03/2011 11:21

Dixie if you're around, could you and DH book into a B&B near to the hen weekend so you spend the night with them but are still able to join in during the day?

Dixiebell · 01/03/2011 12:54

saoirse, yes that's an idea. Tbh, I'm not too fussed about missing it if I have to. My sis is having 3 hen dos (!) and I'm going to one of the others - afternoon tea, which seems a lot more manageable than a weekend away. Also, the other one involves a lot of strenuous activity (an assault course and dry slope skiing), and I know which I'd prefer! DH will come and hang around nearby for the afternoon tea.

Got a doidy cup now, gonna try Arlo with that as he has been taking some milk just poured from the bottle without the teat.

Been to a playgroup this morning much bigger than the baby group we usually go to, and I think Arlo found it a bit overwhelming. There were screaming toddlers everywhere and after about 20 mins Arlo just sort of went into hibernation, demanded a feed and slept on me for the rest of the session, something he rarely does these days. Not realty getting our money's worth there, but I did manage to chat to some mums. :)

SeaChelles · 01/03/2011 12:56

Lumpy - didn't have any bickiepegs in our Asda or Boots or anywhere - so ordered them online! However Asda had them today! Bastards! Lol.... Grin

lumpybananapuree · 01/03/2011 16:27

Debs Gagging doesn't bother me at all! Its the large amounts of vomit that follow that bothers me! Luckily Ollys not too bad & has only done that once. Ds1 was a nightmare. My friends would be freaking out that he was choking & I'd just sit & wait to catch the sick!

Chelle, I think thats whats known as the law of sod!

Dixie how did you get on with the doidy?? I've got one that I had for ds1 but never got on with it cos he's grab it & spill it! The afternoon tea hen do dounds like my cup of tea! excuse the pun!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/03/2011 17:04

Know what you mean about men in the morning saoirse86! Dh just says that he is not going to spend his whole life creeping around trying to be quiet Angry

I ordered myself a mooncup from boots today, should be delivered in 5 days. Just hope I can get the hang of it.

Luke has been very chatty today, not sure if he's competing with all the other children or he's just found his voice all of a sudden.

Dixiebell · 01/03/2011 17:11

lumpy, only one go with doidy so far, he seems to Beverley good with it, he grabs the handles and opens his mouth for it. It is pretty messy, but at least he's taking in milk rather than outright refusing as he does with the bottle. I don't think it solves my problem as he won't tolerate it for long, but at least makes me think he'll be okay once we start weaning. And perhaps I will be able to make use of all the frozen breastmilk I have!

Dixiebell · 01/03/2011 17:16

Was just playing our electric piano with Arlo on my lap joining in and he did a big watery puke - ran through the keys! Urgh. Hope the electrics don't get affected. Might be a distinct whiff of baby sick whenever you play it though...Hmm
