it appears I posted the last post... so here's a new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Unfortunately both sets of parents are quite far away Star. My sis came over on Friday morning to look after S while we went for the scan. We were only expecting to be an hour or so but she ended up having to stay with him till gone nine pm as they whisked me in to do the op. Of course she was happy to help but I don't feel like I can call on her again this weekend. He'll be fine with a few early nights I'm sure but I'm conscious that all the attention is on me at the moment and people forget that he's also been through a lot.

Your poor friend. That doesn't sound right at all. I'm hardly bleeding at all. Is she back at work while all this is going on?

StarExpat · 30/01/2011 14:38

She was off for a week and a half but back at work last week in less pain but pain nonetheless and yes, bleeding while at work :( it's been tough for her this week - she should have stayed home but feels "better" (than before) ... But with teaching young children, as you know, it's difficult to throw yourself back in because the days are so intense... She has 3 young dc as well, so she has a lot going on.

I hope you're all resting today. Is S happy to play inside while you rest a bit? That's good that your sister could come the other day.
Thinking of you x

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/01/2011 18:08

Both star. We have to ignore him in the night now because he screams louder after we visit and is already disturbing our neighbour a lot. He moans for a bit then sleeps on his floor in his doorway. It means that when j decides that we are starting the day at 5.30 we still have to hide in my room til 7 or else he gets up too as he stirs when we go out on the landing.

Coconutfeet · 30/01/2011 18:55

Sounds awful CSWS. Was dd the same, or is this a totally new thing for you to deal with?

Star - Sorry to hear about your friend. She really has got her hands full. S went out briefly this morning to the local shops and he had a bit of a run around there but he's been quite happy to stay in a do puzzle for most of the day. We did all snuggle up on the sofa and watch Toy Story though, which he loved (I enjoyed it too - I'd not seen it before!).

Cf - which toy story did you watch? We love them, too!
I hope you're feeling better soon. Q loves racing around the shops near us, too.

Csws, poo little D :( Q wakes loads too, but like Myjob's N, he usually settles after a cuddle. It's just the constant getting up and down that's tiring.

Q has a fever of 38.6. Gave nurofen at 6. Calpol at 7. Temp is still the same. It's not a really high temp, so shall I just leave it? Or be concerned that medicine isn't reducing fever? Will check temp again in a few mins.

StarExpat · 30/01/2011 21:10

Just gave nurofen again... I think that's ok as it was 3 hours from last dose?
Temp at 38.7 now. I have him in a shorts romper suit pj type thing and covers only on lower legs and feet. He doesn't/didn't seem ill today/this evening. Confused
is it ok that it's not going down with medicine?

Thanks! That helps a lot. I need a non worrier! Ok. He is sleeping so very floppy lol.
He's next to me in bed now. Will keep giving water. Thanks!

Honeymoonmummy · 30/01/2011 21:45

Oh CF, I'm so sorry to hear your news Sad I hope you dont have to wait too long for the referral x

Thanks all for the best wishes re my neighbours little boy.

Thanks Pistachio/ my job for strep b advice and link, I was reading another thread on this last night and have decided to get the ABs again, I wouldn't forgive myself if I hadn't done everything in my power to prevent the baby getting it. Hope q better soon star, I take it u mean child neurofen?

StarExpat · 30/01/2011 21:50

Yes baby ibuprofen. 38.3 last time. Going down some. Shallow breathing still, though. I wish I could take the advice not to focus on numbers! Im a slave to the thermometer.

Coconutfeet · 30/01/2011 21:54

I agree with Pistachio Star - I'd go on how Q seems. He's next to you so you can monitor him. It sounds like it's coming down a bit now. I hope you manage to get some rest too.

It was Toy Story 1 BTW. We've got the other 2 to watch later on.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/01/2011 22:01

star - don't worry about that already given, but in future you should leave more than 3 hours between doses of nurofen. It's only a max of 3 or 4 (need to check bottle for which) doses in 24 hours too.
Take the covers off his lower legs - he doesn't need any at all if he's got a high temp.
But again I wouldn't do anything else unless he seems really bad with it - mine run temps over 40 and get nothing except some calpol/nurofen.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/01/2011 22:02

Ah yes, we tried to watch toy story 3 today (dd saw with me over Christmas) and ds asked for it to be turned off part way through when the 'baddie' appeared.
They watched the aristocats instead.

Oh you're right. How stupid of me! I was thinking about the every 3 hours calpol or nurofen. Forgot it was 6 hours between same one. Ughhh. Ridiculous! I hope I haven't harmed him. 2.5 ml calprofen at 5.50 5 ml calpol at 7 then 2.5 ml calprofen at 9. Crap. Do I need to have him seen? Temp going down... Damn it

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/01/2011 22:41

No you don't need to have him seen. They give much higher doses in hospitals anyway!

Coconutfeet · 31/01/2011 08:33

Well so much for my day of rest. S vomited all over himself, our bed and me in the night, and another little vomit this morning. He's got a high temp and a nasty cold so I'm keeping him home from nursery. He's never sick - in fact the last time he vomited was when he'd just started on solids, so I've no idea what to do with him. Should I just trust his instinct and feed him if he says he's hungry? I'm thinking banana might be good.

How's Q today Star?

pepperrabbit · 31/01/2011 10:05

I tend to give dry biscuits if they say they're hungry or plain toast and lots of sips of water.
No medical reason though! prob what my mum used to do Smile
Hope he perks up soon. I HATE washing sicky bedclothes, esp when they are mine!
My tumble dryer is fixed Grin Grin Grin
embarrassingly he had to fix the hoover as well when he wanted to hoover the fluff up, there appeared to be a pencil stuck in the shaft, though that's nothing to finding a whole babybel wax wrapper in the tumble dryer - behind the drum Hmm.
The DSs ceiling has a nasty crack in it and we had some builders round to quuote fixing it , they said to get everything out of the attic Confused so DH went up there yesterday and the rafters are all fine so it's just the plasterboard in the boys room so won't collapse - BUT he found a hole in the roof [bisvuit]. Only a small one but still..... and the bloody boiler keeps swithching itself off.
Really I need to move to a 5 star hotel methinks!
star - can't remember the last time I took a temp on one of mine. I go on how they feel and how they seem - and I thought it was at least 2 hours between calpol/nurofen so you could give each every 4 hours?? I need to go check - once I have a fact in my head it can stay there for years without realising technology moves on...
Hope Q better this morning.
CSWS - how was your night?

StarExpat · 31/01/2011 10:45

cf - Q had that last week (?) or the week before, can't remember now! It was horrid. Being vomited on was the grossest experience of my life so far. yuck. I let him eat when he wanted to, but it only made him vomit more.
He was vomiting water at one point. THey say (drs) to not feed them, only water for some number of hours... someone wise will come along. Q hadn't vomited before that since being tiny either, so it is just a guessing game, I think.

I gave him dry toast as pepper says and water.

It is awful getting sick out of bed linens and the bed.

Q seemed fine this morning Confused
When we got to cm, temp was back up at 38. He seems perky and happy playing, though so she said we'll play it by ear. He said he wanted to go to cm's, so I have no idea what this is. We'll see how it plays out.

YAY for tumble drier pepper!!

Coconutfeet · 31/01/2011 10:56

Pepper - Was it the Babybel wrapper that stopped the tumble dryer working? At least your hoover is fixed too!

Your house sounds like ours at the moment. As I type the kitchen tap is driving me mad because we can't actually turn it off and it's running (not dripping) water all the time. I really need to go and buy a new tap and contact a plumber but other things seem to have got in the way recently. Our boiler keeps doing weird things too and we've got some scary looking cracks in the wall.

S seems quite perky now. He's eaten a banana, and I think I'll give him some plain toast if he's still hungry.

Coconutfeet · 31/01/2011 10:59

Xposts Star. It really is gross isn't it. We've got some sick on the feather pillows. Does anyone know if I can put them in the washing machine?

Star - How long did Q keep vomiting for?
