Legs is good. Catherine got her jabs in her arms this time! One bled really badly and she still has a bruise Sad

The HV gave us the Bookstart pack while we were at the 1 year check. She got a red book bag which I'm sure will come in handy as she gets bigger as Alex's school bookbag is red too so she can be just like him :)

HerculesPoirot · 20/01/2011 21:59

Hmmm, I don't know anything about a one year check. There isn't anything in the red book about it and the nurse today basically said, see you when she's three and a half!!!!

There are 3 packs as far as I know - the fabric bag with the board books and nursery rhyme sheets at 6 weeks-ish, the book bag with the picture books and crayons at 1 year and then the Pirate chest that the children round here are given just before they break up for the summer holidays for the last time before they go to Primary school.

Actually, I'll look it up....

The Bookstart website says that the cloth bag should be gifted between 0-12 months and the bookbag gifted between 18-30 months so it looks like Catherine got hers early (Alex too as he got his at his 1 year check) We do get 2 year checks here too so I wonder why they don't give them out then? Not that I'm complaining obviously :)

The Pirate chest is supposed to be between 36 and 48 months so 3-4 years which will be about right if Alex gets his just before he leaves preschool. We've already got both the books shown on the website but they change all the time so hopefully we'll get something new.

It says "They are supplied to parents through our gifting partners such as health visitors, libraries and early years settings" so if you're not having a one year check Hercule then maybe talk to your HV and see how they give them out? Our HV told us at Catherine's check that they'd stopped doing the one year checks for a couple of years and had just started again so I guess they must have found a different way to give them out round here for a while. I don't think the checks are compulsory (or even strictly necessary as long as you're a competent mummy) and depend on what your local authority do. She just asked me if Catherine was OK, I said yes, she agreed, commented on how much babbling she did and that was it. She did weigh her just because Catherine is so teeny and had lost weight when we were all ill just before her last clinic at 12 months but she was back on the chart so all was fine. She weighs 7.1kgs now :)

Wow! That's the longest post we've had on here in a while! Grin

Blatherskite · 22/01/2011 20:20

Catherine has another tooth! A molar Confused

so she got the bottom two, the top two, then another top one to the side of the one's already there...and now a molar!!

According to the chart I have to record them on, she should be getting her first molars about now but she should have got another 3 front teeth (other side of the top ones and either side of the bottom ones) first. Trust Catherine to do it her own way and just have them springing up all over the place :)

Alex had his first school friend birthday party too. He seemed to have fun even though he only knew the birthday boy. I was a bit owrried at first as I had to push him through the door because he didn't want to go in but it all worked out well in the end

hello. just marking my place will write more later! xxx

HerculesPoirot · 24/01/2011 23:15

Not sure if we have more teeth as if you try to check Imogen bites your fingers off nearly!!! I keep thinking I can maybe see them poking through though, so will try to have a good look soon...

No words here - Imogen can rock back and forth sort of saying sounds that sound like 'row, row, row' when she wants you to do row, row, row the boat and she also tries to do round and round the garden on her doll's hand which is funny. She seems to be getting quite into telling us off though, or telling her teddies off if they fall of the chair she puts them on which is v funny.

Keep trying to get her to say mummy, but not really any joy... I'm like Lee, would quite like her to say it now, although I like to tell myself its because she hasn't had any need to as I have provided for all her needs Hmm.

Hope you are all well - ABF, come and rant here any time you like...

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 26/01/2011 08:06

Hi all

quick message as need to get ready for work. have a meeting at 10am in town today so bit of a lie in and afternoon WFH!! Brill!

Anna has 8 teeth now; four at top and four at the bottom. there is still a lot of mouth rubbing going on so we do wonder if she is getting some molars, but like you Hercules, i don't very often risk my fingers, by putting them in her mouth!

She is moving into first steps at nursery in a couple of weeks. i can't believe it. When they told me last night i was so surprised as i thought she'd be in the baby room a while longer, but i suppose it shows she's making progress. just feel a bit :( that she's not a little baby anymore! Daft.

We seem to have been really busy of late and we have another busy weekend planned. DH and i are going to see Punt and Dennis on friday night and then on sat i'm at hairdressers (hurrah!) getting hair sorted and visiting friends on sat night.

Anna has her 13 month jabs tomorrow, so hoping it all goes ok. we are off to soft play afterwards anyway, so hopefully that will keep her mind off the injections.

Just on 12 month check, i think it does vary due to what area you live in, but also know that some of my friends here haven't been offered one, so seems to vary between practices as well!!! Ours is def in our red book though, then the next one is at 2-2.5 years. It sems odd that it varies between authorities, but i guess it depends on what their spending priorities are.

restructure has been published at work, but no detail as yet on individual jobs. At the mo, it's just down to the level of what teams are under which manager. Just keeping everything crossed that when the detailed structure is published, my job is still on it! :o

Hope you are all ok.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/01/2011 08:12

Elizabeth has her injections tomorrow aswell.

I keep being pestered by the HV team. Think it's because I moved areas so they are probably wondering why ive not shown my face. Even though my old HV centre was in the same place as Jake's nursery so was far easier to drop in and is still closer to where I live now compared to the other one!

BlueChampagne · 26/01/2011 13:44

Hope all goes well with work and the jabs Ethelred. Conrad had his MMR yesterday and appears to be fine. He hardly squeaked.

What I thought was a cold has turned out to be a chest infection as well - typically I got him to the Dr a week before I got myself there, so now I'm on the antibiotics and waiting to feel better. Can't believe I get tired so easily at the moment. Conrad's sleep still hasn't improved since he was ill - I feel CC beckoning but have to feel stronger myself to carry it through.

Blatherskite · 26/01/2011 20:59

Catherine is possibly coming down with something again! Could be teeth as she has 4 big lumps waiting to errupt. She's had a temperature all afternoon and has been super clingy. Nurofen didn't touch it so we gave her some Calpol too before bed. Hoping for a decent nights sleep.

We have decided that 5.30 is too early to get up so we decided to leave her if she woke up that early and it's been working! Two mornings now, she has woken at 5.20 and then put herself back to sleep within minutes and I've had to wake her at 7.20 on Tuesday and 7am this morning!! I really hope this whatever it is doesn't mess it up again, I've been feeling human for the past two days.

Need to feel human too as I'll fall apart otherwise. Mum's just rung to say that the care home Grandad is in called her ysterday saying that they thought he had houres left. She and my Uncle sat with him all last night and have been there all today and he's still hanging on but it won't be much longer now. I can't really go as it's a 3 hour drive and I'd have to take the children which means I couldn't go before tomorrow at the earliest (which might be too late) unless I go getting the out of bed now and then I'd not be able to see him as I couldn't take the children in as he has MRSA from hospital and Catherine is possibly poorly and there's no-one to look after them while I do (even if Catherine would be left with anyone else!)

I could ask DH to take time off work but I wouldn't know how long for and I'm not actually sure I want to go. I saw him at Christmas and he was frail and unaware who everyone was (he has dementia) but well (we didn't even know about the cancer then) Apparently now, he's so zoned out on the morphine than he's just laid, slack jawed with his eyes half open and he's lost a lot of weight so looks very, very frail. Mum's told me not to go. She says she wishes she didn't have to as she doesn't want to remember him this way.

Feeling very sad because when he's gone I'll have no more Grandparents left. Hoping for my Mum's sake that it doesn't take too much longer Sad

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 26/01/2011 21:17

Hey Blathers, well done on the sleeping!

Blue, hope you feel better soon. It's a nightmare when you are ill. I seem to lurch from one (minor) illness to the next at the mo! finegsr crossed you feel better soon.

Blathers, so sorry to hear about your grandad. I am lucky in that i have one set still left, but when my other grandad died, i was very upset. He was ill in a hospice and i didn't get to see him before he died, but actually, i am quite glad i didn't for the same reason your mum said. Am thinking of you at this difficult time. xxx

Blatherskite · 26/01/2011 21:51

Well done on working out what I meant. It wasn't typed very well!! I can spell, honest!

Antibiotics kicking in, and using my inhaler a lot more than usual, so slowly feeling better, thank you. DH has been doing all the cooking and washing up (usual rule is one or the other) which is appreciated.

Sorry about your Grandad, Blathers. I lost my last 2 grandparents while expecting DS1, so they never quite got to be great grandparents. Shouldn't have left it so long to have kids, but just wasn't interested before. My Grandad was in a similar state to yours, so I agree with your Mum and Ethelred. My Granny, on the other hand, was pretty much with it till the last, so did dash off and see her. Much easier in BC days (before children).

HerculesPoirot · 27/01/2011 18:46

Glad you're starting to feel better blue.

Blathers so sorry to hear about your grandad, it's always heartbreaking, whatever the circumstances.

Will catch up properly v soon...

Blatherskite · 27/01/2011 20:54

Glad you're feeling better Blue. Good on your DH for looking after you. Mine is rubbish when I get ill but at least he orders me pizza :)

Looking forward to Hurcule and Ethelred's updates...

Grandad is still hanging on but Mum says there is nothing that was 'Grandad' left anymore. She says he's little more than an animal now - can't speak, can't focus, just growls and grunts if anyone tries to touch or move him. He's refusing all food and drink and reisiting all care and medication. She says she actually feels quite traumatised by it all and is going to work tomorrow because she just can't watch anymore. It's just so awful Sad Hopefully, it'll be over soon. Awful thing to say I know but I really think it'd be best for everyone - including Grandad.

Lee - we've tried taking the batteries out of the remote, except that's annoying when we want to use it! Or giving a different remit battery free. I am sure Imogen knows though and isn't impressed! With the loo thing I've no idea - I tend to dump her in her cot with some toys as otherwise she is trying to get on my lap, pull the shower curtain down, shut the bathroom door, take everything out if her drawers in her room etc... She has a mobile that she likes pressing the buttons on!

If you come up with a baby rope I'd buy one!

What sort of things do you do for lunches and dinners now? I am trying to do the same things as us eg she has them the next day, but need to eat better for us too in order to do that all the time so just wondered if you had any favourites!

Blathers, am thinking of you, hope you and your family are doing ok.

HerculesPoirot · 28/01/2011 19:20

Imogen took her first steps today! She did three at a time quite a few times which was ver exciting! I'm sure she called me mama twice too...

HerculesPoirot, Thank you. I saw your comment on other thread, was very kind of you.

Blathers, so sorry you and your family are going though such an awful time.

Elizabeth also seems to know if a remote control isnt a "real one" we tried to give her the old sky one but she isnt interested at all. Yet she still makes a beeline for the ones we use!
She says Grandad now, well more like "angah" but she only says it to him or when she wants him, so we think she is saying that!
She also says doggy quite well. No hint of mummy though! Sad She is very much a Daddy's Girl (or Grandad's Girl)

Elizabeth likes to spoonfeed herself now... glad it's not my carpet she drops pasta sauce on!

When you get the baby tether working well I'll gladly purcahse one off you Lee! Grin
