Oh enya your poor girl. Earaches are so so horrible, hope she feels better later.

School closed, childminder unable to get here & I am supposed to be at work already aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrgh. Bibi I am feeling your pain.

blueberryboybait · 29/11/2010 08:37

Oh I feel for all of you that have littlies home when you have work to get to.

No snow here but very very cold - out weather staion has given us a noight time low of -6 with a windchill of -11, thankfully not too windy.

FjorgynAndHotWater · 29/11/2010 10:15

Not enough snow to close the schools here, so DD packed off, feeling much better than yesterday. All her school party guests were present and didn't look like they'd been up all night vomming so we may have got away with it, phew! Just waiting for the gas man to come and service the boiler (oh god I hope there is nothing wrong with it...) then off to the supermarket as am not a good planner and only have 2 loo rolls left Shock

Sorry your DD is feeling poorly again enya Sad, I hope you can get it sorted.

-11 bbbb Shock[brrr]. My little sis posted a beautiful picture on fb yesterday of a madly frosted window, sadly it was on the inside of her bedroom window Shock She lives in a lovely massive flat in a big old posh house in Wakey but unfortunately the windows appear to be the original ones.

Merlion · 29/11/2010 11:05

Brrrrrrr would gladly send you all a few degrees of heat if I could. That said it's been raining all afternoon so not sure you'd want that.

Results all good from the scan and bloods. Have slowly been telling people. Still feeling a bit sick. We're off on holiday next week and I can't wait.

Enya can you get her referred to see an ENT specialist? Maybe they'd be able to spot something the GP can't.

Sorry not had much time to catch up with MIL here...

enyahadenough · 29/11/2010 12:18

back from docs she has another ear infection Sad and doc thinks glue ear?? so a 10 course of antibiotics and then go back and see him again.. another potential 10 course if it doesn't work and referal after that Sad.. poor wee munchkin feel so sorry for her...

we are waiting for the snow here, tis suspose to come tonight Hmm

how are you feeling these days merlion?

bbbb would have loved some porridge today brrrr

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 29/11/2010 13:52

enya I was going to suggest asking the doc to look for underlying causes, it certainly isn't the norm for children to get one ear infection after another so it's good that they're making investigations. Hope she feels better soon, and don't be shy of the Calpol bottle.

It is proper freezing here as well; no more snow but what there is has packed itself down into ice. I'm not driving anywhere until it goes, DH nearly slipped into traffic yesterday despite braking in lots of time Shock

Bibi hope you've managed to sort something out. I was thinking of you while listening to the news this morning - glad you didn't spend the night in your car at least!

Merlion happy to hear all your bloods have come back good :) Where are you off on holiday?

I've been meaning to ask everyone for a while, are any of the other Aug08 toddlers suddenly changing into naughty children their behaviour? Now I know we've been very lucky with DS up till now because he has been a dream to parent, but my easygoing little boy who used to eat anything (or at least try anything), go to sleep happily in his bed and stay there all night has suddenly become ultra fussy with food and obsessed with sleeping in mummy's bed. He's in there now having a kip, only after much persuading. And everything takes such hard work - I am having to shout at him to get him to put his coat on because he keeps having senseless tantrums about it (well, not shout, but do the low firm projected tone of voice thing).

Rationally I know all this is normal and he's two, but I don't want to have to shout at him and put my foot down. God, reading that makes me seem like such a wuss, sorry Blush I just feel bad for him that I'm having to be the enforcer, and bad for me because at the moment I feel like I have permanent PMS and really can't be arsed with all the faffing.

Somebody slap me please.

salta · 29/11/2010 14:54

I've been talking about this with friends recently about sharing. I spend a lot of time with DS telling him off about snatching toys or not sharing his own.

a) He will get the hang of it anyway without my help

or

b) I spend the next 2 years nagging

I'm going for b). Ho hum.

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 29/11/2010 15:01

salta everyone knows you tell your kids off for not sharing purely for the benefit of any other mums within earshot Grin They know the kids aren't listening, we know the kids aren't listening, but god help the mum who doesn't make a pretence at trying to sort it out. Her social standing would be shot within minutes.

BibiBelle · 29/11/2010 16:05

Today is not the day to be working for the emergency services Sad

HippyHippopotamus · 29/11/2010 16:13

you ok bibi? i'm here if you want to chat

blueberryboybait · 29/11/2010 16:24

Bibi - I'm here too

OP posts:
blueberryboybait · 29/11/2010 16:34

Star - yes I think we have the same basic model here! She is (there has been a 10minute gap here resulting in DD1 on the step for repeatedly biting my leg!!) I am giving her a little leeway at times but find hse is much better with firm boundaries whech she know if she crosses result in a 2 minute stay on the step. No shouting, 1 warning and when it happens again I just pick her up and put her on the step, she has never questioned why she is there and spontaneously apologises when I go back to her, so she know why without me telling her.

OP posts:
blueberryboybait · 29/11/2010 16:40

bad spelling apology- DD2 is helping with her feet as I feed!

OP posts:
CaptainCaveman · 29/11/2010 18:18

star yes we have that with O, screaming tantrums when getting coat off/on going into/getting out of the car, chaning tv channel (regardless of what we're watching), getting into or out of the bath when he's tired and a long list of other things Grin

Weather here is forecast for heavy snow tomorrow Hmm. Like your emergency services BB this isn't good news for community services!

Been sick as anything all weekend - d&v as well as cough and cold of course, I recovered in time to go to work today Hmm

Dh has his hearing tomorrow at 11am

FjorgynAndHotWater · 29/11/2010 20:21

Oh cece, good luck for your DH tomorrow. Sorry to hear you have been feeling pants too, D&V is really horrible. Can't you quarantine yourself like we have to with the DC and school - off work for 48 hours after the last 'episode'? I felt a bit guilty sending DD to school today as was only 30 hours after she'd stopped vomming but she's been fine thank goodness.

I however have a sick headache that paracetamol isn't shifting, can't blame it on wine anymore, hoping a ride on my bike (inside, am not crazy) will shift it.

enya good the dr is taking DD1 seriously re her ears, and if it is glue ear then that's no big, just some grommets and she'll be fine Smile

I signed up to a scheme called 'architect in the house' ages ago, you get a free consultation with a local architect in exchange for a £40 donation to Shelter, well I finally arranged it and he came today. Has given much food for thought re getting an extension, will be expensive but doable, so maybe we'll do it and stay here for a while... quite exciting actually Grin

bibi hope all the snow fucks off v soon, but not looking likely with the forecast at the moment Sad also [brrr]. Our gas engineer cancelled at the last minute due to needing to actually fix broken boilers so we are still warm and toasty inside, who cares about potential carbon monoxide poisoning...

CrispyTheCrisp · 29/11/2010 20:34

Evening

Went to see one of DD's potential schools today and although i love the school, i just couldn't take to the head Sad. School only has 60 pupils and goes up to age 11!

star yes are babies are becoming stroppy small people who feel the need to flex their muscles Sad. However, i can report that they do calm down and their gorgeous little personalities shine through and overtake the stroppiness. Just a phase, just a phase. . I hate shouting too, and mostly don't bother - if they don't want to put shoes or boots on, then fine, they are carried to the car. If they are kicking off about food, they get down from the table. Paying zero attention to it does seem to work here, although i will admit to failing not to do this every time and do a good line in shouty mum Blush

bibi sorry to hear work is tough Sad. Thinking of you {{{hugs}}}

cece very, very best of luck to KingOfTheCave and i hope he gets all the support he deserves

CrispyTheCrisp · 29/11/2010 20:35

oooh, how exciting re architect fjorn. We are hoping to hear if we get our planning permission in the next couple of weeks

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 29/11/2010 21:16

Fjorgyn a new extension eh? Sounds like a great reason to visit Grin Very exciting indeed! (your extension, not my visit)

Crisp I may have muttered that mantra to myself once or twice today Grin Totally agree about shoes on in car etc., we do that too as much as possible. I also try and explain that e.g. we can't go out and play with DS's friend if DS doesn't put his shoes/coat on...sometimes it works Hmm Of course this afternoon he totally wrongfooted me by being an absolute angel - we painted together for ages, bounced on the bed and then he scarfed down a big bowl of dhal and couscous with no problem whatsoever Shock If you knew the power struggles over food that have been going on lately, you would know my joy :)

The school sounds great. Will you still consider it despite the head? What was the issue with her/him, funny ideas or just a personality clash feeling?

CrispyTheCrisp · 29/11/2010 21:33

Ah, what a little StarBoy Smile

We will still consider it, especially as i am not sure she will be there much longer. Not funny ideas, just no real oomph to her, like she wasn't really connected with the school and its ethos. Difficult to put my finger on, but i just didn't get a nice warm feeling from her. We will go and see the other potential school and then weigh it up. Her really nice friends are there and there will be a lovely little group for DD2's year as well. The reception/Y1/Y2 class has about 15 pupils with one teacher and 2 teaching assistants so that ratio is brilliant Smile

PertyPru · 29/11/2010 22:02

Cece hope all goes well tomorrow. Will be thinking of you both.

Star, sounds like a lovely afternoon Smile Just for solidarity, DD has become a Right Madam in the last week or so. I have blamed teeth, the cold, and 'she knows something's going on and her little PFB world is about to be turned upside down' (in roughly descending order of plausibility). My low spots most days are when we have to get home on the bus/tube - commuters just don't understand the whole playgroup-parent etiquette, if they're not tutting at me they're laughing at her snot-wiping, pole-licking Hmm, ankle-kicking, handbag-rummaging, 'no-go-home'-shrieking antics Grin

Crisp sounds like a nice school. Do you know parent/teachers who could give an opinion on whether the head was just having a bad day?

Warm cocoa-y to all those frozen in or otherwise buggered up by weather. Fingers crossed for a freak overnight heatwave...

FjorgynAndHotWater · 29/11/2010 22:06

Star I hope you don't need a reason to visit, we are not that boring Grin[paranoid]Wink Oh, and DS will scream the place down if his banana snaps while he is peeling it Hmm

crispy you are a better parent than me, I have no idea what DD's headteacher looks like, and we never went to look at the school before putting her name down for it, just thought it was better than our nearest one. Luckily it seems fab and she loves it so

More snow here but still only an inch as most of yesterday's had already gone. Got plenty of loo paper and teabags now though so it can snow all it wants Grin

Buffy time...

TwilightSurfer · 30/11/2010 01:55

FJ are you pregnant?

Star if only you knew me when DD1 was this age. You'd have chosen to NOT have children. MERCY they can be WILD and STUBBORN. I learned the hard way; there's no forcing some things. Food, bah!, if they don't eat they don't eat. Clothes, bah!, stick what you NEED them to wear in a bag and toss them in the buggy or car and go. There's time to distract and dress them later.

Oh poor Captian! (((hug))) ((((hug)))) ((((hug))))

Busy day here. Wish I could say more but then that'd cause and epic post.

Enya, can you take her to see a chiropractor. One look and a chiropractor can tell if the child's atlas is straight. If it's not, the tubes can't properly drain and lead to numerous ear problems. Word of caution, anti-b's can do more harm than good so please be very careful if you have to use them for the long term. PROBIOTICS PROBIOTICS PROBIOTICS

Oh...no dress purchased. All still sitting in online shopping carts. Moved on to winter coats. The weather when from ahhhh to brrrr and the girls need something NOW. Will report back later.Wink
