Hi Ladies,

I hope you don't mind, I started a new thread as our first one was quite full! I can't believe we're a quarter-way through the first year already! Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
wouldliketoknow · 17/08/2010 16:00

hi all
fist, thinking of you...

den, hopefully rian will be fine, the op doesn't sound so bad, try not to worry, iknow easier said... and he will survived dh as well, good learning experience for him, good to be out for you..

oscar must be really tired, from all the walking about yesterday, he slept half an hour in the mornig, had the dreaded bottle at about one, and has been sleeping since about two...it's great but i can't help wonder if he's allright, someone tell me to get a grip, please.....

mollycuddles · 17/08/2010 16:05

Hi. Molls is having a bad day. I left her with dh for about an hour so I could get the other dcs school clothes from m&s and join a gym. I fed her before I went and she was sleeping but I had barely gone before she woke and she cried for me the whole time. Then I came back and fed her and took her for her jabs. She's feeding now and is all happy. Bless.

She's now 14lb 12 which is about 95th centile and is 91st centile for length (62cm). I'm so proud of her. And of me for joining the gym. Of course I have to go for it to do any good! But it's about 5 mins from home so even though I can't leave her for very long I'm hoping I can manage 30 mins maybe 3/4 times a week to start. I bought a new pump to try - the medela swing which is recommended and I'm back on the fenugreek so I can start building up my freezer supply for work on the off chance Molls ever takes a bottle.

I'm feeling good now I'm recovered from the holiday. Dh and I have been talking and we're doing well and feel as close as we have in a long time. He went to a financial advisor today and is sorting out some long overdue stuff. He is mentally pretty well too :). He definitely wants one final dc so the new fitness regime is vital. I am not doing pregnancy again until my bmi is under 30.

Nice to hear from you both first1 and den26 hope all goes well for you both.

wouldliketoknow · 17/08/2010 16:14

really good to hear that, molls...

homebirthmummy4 · 17/08/2010 16:43

yay molly! good luck with the fitness. maybe we should have a little subthread of weight loss progress for all of us who have a little way to go yet......

pamelat · 17/08/2010 16:50

wltk am sure Oscar is fine Smile I have been worrying as Alex has not slept enough today, an hour this am (pretty standard now) but only 20/30 mins at lunch, he is better after a good hour and half/2 hours ie) what Oscar is doing now?? Smile

I read that at 3 months they should have a minimum of 3 hours of day time naps, today Alex has had 1 hour 50 total ooopps. Oh well, he seems happy.

I went swimming today and then had a chicken burger and chips, ooppps, feel wasted my time Wink

I feel that in last few weeks, despite things being hard on days with DD around and despite night wakings, I feel that am just happier. I dont think those first 8 weeks or so suit me Grin

wouldliketoknow · 17/08/2010 17:10

he just did the biggest poo when he woke up froma 2 h napShock, and then fed for 30m, he is now content in his bouncer, playing with his monkey blanket, so yes, i guess everything is fine...
my mil keep saying he needs to sleep more during the day, but... unless i gave him valium...
i wish i could go swimming, never find the time, suitable moment, any other excuse... going on hols to the sea, hopefully will get some exercise...
i am also feeling happier/less drainned, it must be getting used to the new lifestyle... manage to get a couple of nice evenings with a beer too...we're getting there.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 17/08/2010 19:06

First1 - thinking of you :) Hope Friday goes well, will cross everything for you.

Den26 - glad Rian's appointment went well, have a good night out tonight!

Mollycuddles - good to hear you're doing well, and well done on joining the gym! If I want another baby I'm going to have to sort out my body too, don't think I could take another pg at the moment.

Pamelat - chicken burger and chips sounds yummy!!

DD just slammed her fingers in the door :( The tip of one looks hugely swollen and the nailbed was bleeding a bit and now looks yellow Hmm Poor little mite, she seems OK though.

WLTK - good you're feeling happier :)

kateyjane · 17/08/2010 20:37

Heffa - Your poor DD, hope her finger feels better soon. Trapped fingers are the worst thing Sad

homebirthmummy and molly - like the idea of a weightloss subthread. I have 4 stone to go, and I lost over a stone during pregnancy Blush

Den26 - I am so glad the consultant and the team seem lovely. That is what you will need. He will be fine I'm sure, it is you who will need cuddles and support (we will be here) I almost lost my DS1 at 3 months, but he is a happy and completely well 3.8 year old now and will never know anything about it. I hope you have a really good support network around you. Thinking about you.

First1 - I hope it goes really well on Friday. You are very brave, I will be thinking about you.

WLTK - Glad you are feeling happier and less drained. I think a beer and a bit of you time in the evening helps a lot!!!!! Grin

Pamelat - Glad you are happier too! Very impressed at the swimming, and I think burger and chips = new mum essential energy Grin

Took Tom to the health visitor today and he is 14lb 4oz at 14 weeks, so on the 50th centile, all my others were on the 99th centile, so he still feels positively tiny to me! He's got his second injections tomorrow, so not looking forward to that. At least DH can take him, as I find it hard.

Hope everyone is okay Smile

Sassles · 17/08/2010 20:44

They are meant to sleep 3 hours a day. Gosh. Sam is such a wee wide awaker. Trying to put him down for naps as 10ish and 2ish, but he will only sleep from a feed and then it is a 15 min nap. He had 15 mins at 10.30 and then didn't sleep again (despite me trying from when he woke up at 15 mins about 10.45 till 2pm) until we went to the park at about 4pm. He didn't even sleep in the car on way there or back and then it was only for 20 mins while I was sitting on a bench. He was up last night at 1.30 for and hour and then 5 till 6.30, then up at 8am. Don't know how he is not dead on his feet.

Got jabs tomorrow. At 12 weeks he is 14lbs 14oz.

I had my first jab today...from a wasp! Never been stung till today. Hurt a bit!

kateyjane · 17/08/2010 20:53

Sassles - stings are awful! Hope you're okay!

ML - Just seen your updates on FB, hope your foot is okay, and poor you having the jabs. Hope you feel better soon Smile

millingtonsmummy · 17/08/2010 21:33

Hi Everyone,

first I'll be thinking of you on Friday, hope all goes well

den glad rian's appt went well last week and the surgeon and team seem helpful

pamela I totally know what you mean about those first 8 weeks. Obviously the sleep deprivation is really hard at any stage but I've found my LOs hard when they're so helpless and aren't able to give alot back. Harry's 14 weeks today and a bundle of gorgeousness Grin

heffa hope DDs fingers are OK, more little mite

mollycuddles good luck with getting started on the freezer stock!

sassles ouch! Hope you're OK!

I have no clue what Harry weighs and don't think I'll be able to find out anytime soon. My HVs run one clinic a week on a Wed for 1.5 hours right at the time that DD1 has her nap. He feels pretty chunky to me :)

We're off swimming with friends in the morning. DD1 been a bit off colour the last couple of days so hope she's back on form in the morning. Don't want a grumpy toddler as well as juggling the 2 of them and trying to get timings right to meet friends. Ouff!

We're hitting the road again tomorrow evening, heading north to my parents as DH & I off to a wedding on Friday. DC spending the day running their grandparents into the ground :)

DH out this evening so it's been a cheese sandwich for tea, catch up on mumsnet and to bed! Night all.

wibblela · 17/08/2010 23:57

Gosh, writing on here always seems so daunting to me - I'm sure I miss people in personals Blush

first1 hope Friday goes well - you are in my prayers
den Glad appointment went well and surgeon & team were human and not arrogant. I hope you have enough support and care - seems like he does Smile
wltk DD1 doesn't sleep much during the day either - power naps. We try and follow Tracey Hogg's EASY routine - loosely! Because she is on formula now I know how much she is getting and I have managed to get it to feeding three hours and sleeping through the night - I think she does that coz she doesn't sleep much during the day Smile Envy of the beer though - a very good idea!
^homebirthmummy and molly* - I too like the idea of a weightloss subthread - I have too many to count stones to lose. Prof at hospital wants me to have a gastric bypass but DH and I don't want me to have one. Any major surgery can kickstart a MS relapse. IMHO no doctor (from the ones I have met) think holistically.
sassles being stung is so nasty! I hope it doesn't irritate too much.
millingtonsmummy Enjoy the wedding Smile I suspect that your parents will sleep as well as your DC on Saturday Wink
ML Hope your migraine goes soon - af's are horrible!

Well as you may have gathered I am writing this late at night, which is the only time I could today! The day seemed to whizz by! I started thinking about weaning today - it seems it won't be long before we have to do it! Not sure whether to do BLW or not - have any of you thought about it yet? Is there any previous experience of weaning that might help?

I remember that some people are suffering from Plantar Faciitis? Well can I add another post natal 'illness' to the list? It seems I have tendontis in my left wrist due to overworking it - 'probably from looking after DD1' - GP has given me some anti-inflammatory gel for it (already taking lots of pain relief, so he didn't want to add any more). Just put on the gel and it stinks!!!

Anyway enough moaning from me - it's really good to read from you all. It helps me keep a grip on reality and keep me realising that I'm not the only one doing this (c: You gals are fab Grin

mollycuddles · 18/08/2010 07:40

Hi wibblela. Don't be intimidated! It's not a competition. We all struggle with various bits of this parenting business and we all post more or less at different times. You sound like you're doing just grand to me. We have zero routine here. Not that I'm much for routines tbh. I tried with ds and he was having none of it so I learned to go with the flow. His first sentence was "ds the boss" so I was on a hiding to nothing. Knowing I'm not the routine type doesn't stop me bring uber jealous of sleeping through babes though. No sign of that here. Last night was pretty good though :). She went down at 10ish. Woke at about 2 and fed but as we co sleep I'm not sure how long for as I was dozing as she fed. She then woke properly at 6 in a real hungry state but is now all gorgeously sleeping on my chest. I am hoping to go to the gym today butba bit stressed. Should I risk a class? I am so unfit. I am going to put myself down for a personal trainer session too but that's terrifying. I considered a gastric band but rejected it too.

I spent yesterday evening (between feeds - she still cluster feeds from about 7 to 10) trying to sort out clothes for Molly. We have so much. We've been given 3 bags of second hand stuff - most of it's lovely and I have tons of new stuff we've been given as gifts. Much more than for ds or dd1. And I kept a lot of dd1's baby stuff. I have no idea how we're going to fit it onto the wee shelf unit I have for Molly in our room. I sound si ungrateful but it's insane. I don't need to buy anything for her for 3-6 months which is great as this month is school uniform month and that's a nightmare especially for ds. But I want to buy some baby clothes for her. I'm going to visit my friend and her wee 2 week old on Friday so I'm going shopping for her. Might sneak something for Molls too.

mollycuddles · 18/08/2010 07:43

Molls power naps too. Nowhere near 3 hours in the day.

pigleychez · 18/08/2010 09:52

Morning all,

Just returned from Lucys second jabs. Not too impressed as you can imagine!

DD1 had to be WOKEN at 8am this morning! Shes usually wide awake by 6.30am. Why oh why couldnt she have done it on a day when we didnt have to be at the surgery by 9! We have to be in the next town about 25 minutes away by 10 tomorrow so maybe she could do it again on friday when its only the afternoon we are busy! :)
Lucy also slept 9-7 last night which was nice.

Heffa- Good to hear the Buggyboard is popular :)

SK- Loved the school pictures, so grown up!
Glad she is enjoying herself :)

Molly- Glad you all enjoyed your hols.

Homebirth- I hope you can get to snapping soon :)
Thanks for the Advice. I wont normal do previews its just shes become a bit of a friend now and I wasnt charging her anyway. Shes coming to pick up the cd today so hope she likes the rest of them :)
Ive had so many people ask me about a sitting for thier kids now! Im doing a friend's 2 yrold on Friday which should be fun as they are very wriggly at that age!

Good to hear of all the lovely weight gains... Bet we all have strong arms now! Grin

Carikube- Its amazing how they bounce back isnt it! Glad shes better now.

Den- Glad the appointment went well, sounds like they put your mind to rest abit :)

Millington- enjoy the wedding :)

Wibblea- We had alittle chat about weaning here a few pages back you might like to read. Definately a BLW advocate here :)

Well I have a feeling today is going to drag.. We have already listened to Peppa pig signing CD twice and DD is asking for it again!

pamelat · 18/08/2010 10:16

quick Q please. Alex had second jabs on Monday, been unhappy/unsettled ever since. No temperature but body very hot to the touch and generally unhappy, is this normal? Dont remember any of that with DD.

hollyoaks · 18/08/2010 10:42

Morning

Sorry in advance for the me post but feeling quite down today. Grace was weighed yesterday and she had only put on 1oz so back to 8lb 10oz at 12 weeks. She's now fell off then lower line on the chart and the consultant has asked to see her tomorrow morning. :(

I'm going between feeling terrified that something's wrong to feeling useless that I'm not making enough milk or feeding her often enough. Especially after being given an electric pump and loads of advice from the bf support group. The consultant we see is very pro-bf but I'm sure they're going to suggest supplementing her which I'm sad about though will have to resort too anyway when I go back to work in November. I feel like a bit of a failure and I'm slightly annoyed that all of the people telling me to put her on formula are going to have been right. It's been tough going resisting all of that pressure. :(

hollyoaks · 18/08/2010 10:44

Pamelat - Grace had her jabs yesterday and she's feeling hot today and very sleepy this morning. I think it's normal for them to be quite irritable afterwards for a few days. It's ok to give him calpol if he feels too hot.

pamelat · 18/08/2010 11:08

hollyoaks so not a failure!! You've done brilliantly! I have supplmented with formula for no reason other than being tired Blush

seriously you have done amazingly well and nothing wrong with switching or mixing feeds.

hope shes ok. If it helps my friends now 3 year old daughter was underweigh until 1 and referred to hospital etc, nothing was actually done (just monitoring) and she now healthy bouncy 3 year old. Not sure if I said that before, am going mad ...

hollyoaks · 18/08/2010 11:24

Pamelat - not sure if you've told me about your friends dd but it's always good to hear positive stories. Thanks for the pat on the back too, I've told dh how I feel but I don't think he really understands why I feel like a failure.

Sassles · 18/08/2010 11:32

millingtonsmummy Love love love the name Harry. It was one of my top choices. Cheese sandwich sounds rather good about now. Got a BIG packet of crisps on the table and trying to resist!

wibblea Ouch with the tendonitis. I had it once from having my mouse in a stupid place at work. Really sore and was quite worrying. It did get better though.Hope the stinky gel helps.

mollycuddles Know what you mean about the clothes. My sis had a boy who is now 3, so getting lots of hand me downs, but I have loads of clothes inbags, new clothes, mold clothes that are too small and washed clothes all over the place. Been meaning to sort it out for weeks, but never seem to find the time. I'm finding lovely clothes we got, that I have been saying, they are too big, for ages and when I out them on, they are a bit tight. Missed the window.Think I'm in denial at how big Sammy is getting. I do seem to have a 3-6 month gap for babygro's and vests, so off to mothercare for more!

pigely We have the dreaded 2nd jabs today too. Eek. It is typical with the sleeps. Sam only ever sleeps in or for any legnth of time during day when DH is not at work. When it's just me, he is awake mega early and awake all day. Grin

hollyoakes Sad about the bfing. Wait to see what the consultant has to say. May have other tricks before needing to try formula. You are doing so well keeping up with the feeding. It's hard work and you do question yourself all the time. This has probably been suggested already, so feel free to ignore and I can't remember your sleep patterns, but is there a chance of waking Grace up for extra night feed or tried expressing after each feed for a day to increase supply? A girl at my bf group had a smiliar situation, but her baby was sleeping through the night. Now she wakes her twice and putting on 3/4oz a week. If you need to supplement with formula it doesn't make that lot right. You are going to do what is best for you and baby, but I understand how you feel about it.

Wasp sting better today. Can't believe I got to 31 without being stung. Lets hope that means another 31 years before next sting!

Sam actually sleeping for once, hence long post, but actually just hearning him on the monitor. That was almost and hour!! Grin

mollycuddles · 18/08/2010 11:55

Bf is such an emotional issue though hollyoaks so don't beat yourself up whatever happens. Could you maybe try a galactologue before adding formula? Grace has been through so much that maybe she gets tired and doesn't suck as long as she could have otherwise so isn't stimulating enough milk production. I'm taking fenugreek so I can express enough for returning to work ft in November. But Molly seems to just drink more because it's on tap and settles a bit longer between feeds which is nice. Still rarely more than an hour in the day though. But it takes real effort to feed as often as that!

wouldliketoknow · 18/08/2010 12:27

holly, i really know how you feel, many people told me to give up that i didn't have milk, that i was only torturing myself, you name it i heard it....they're wrong, i turn from formula feeding and expressing one oz a day, to very succesful mixed feeding, oscar doesn't get a bottle till 1 pm, trying to cut that one out now, and then one at 6/7 and another one at 10 ish to sleep, nobody believed we could achieve this, now they are all saying how right i was not to give up and how well i've done.... you're doing better! you're not even using formula, and if you end up giving her the ocassional bottle, so what, specially if it is ebm, and listen to molly, you can increase your supply....

but don't you ever feel guilty for breastfeeding your baby...

wouldliketoknow · 18/08/2010 12:52

on a personal note, oscar has been feeding for 40 min at 9 o'clock, 30 min at 10.35, 50 min at 11.40 and i gave up and am now giving him a bottle, why is he feeding so much today? i am still in pijamas, no lunch, no chores done...

LuckyC · 18/08/2010 13:18

Marking my place. Sigh! Miss you all but have so much going on that I can't keep up with you. Sorry!

We're fine; Matilda is stunning and I am having such a ball. Before I had her I was a bit dubious about the whole thing and thought one would be all I would ever have - now I think three sounds like a good number... quick, someone talk some sense into me, this broodiness must stop.

Wishing you all well!
