Hi Ladies,

I hope you don't mind, I started a new thread as our first one was quite full! I can't believe we're a quarter-way through the first year already! Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pamelat · 19/08/2010 18:00

Oh and to top if off I fell in to a bush this morning out in public Blush twisted my knee a bit. I had got Alex out of the car and put him in pram and was rushing to get DD out (dont like one being in the car park but Alex has to get out first as can at least constrain him), rushed to get her and fell backwards in to bush.

Great.

Then this afternoon, hoovering before friend came round and the hoover cable knocked over my cup of tea, smashed the cup (fortunately no child near it) and tea and cup all over the floor .....

Am thinking I may have to go back to work sooner than I had planned, or at least keep DD in nursery as feel unable to function.

wouldliketoknow · 19/08/2010 18:12

oh, pamelat
bit of a drama over here too, oscar has been screamming for the last half an hour like something is reaaally wrong, got all paranoid, thought he looks a bit blue, put him on blankets, nearly called dh at work.... he is now falling asleep in my arms and i am afraid to drop him in his cot
my friend today said that he looks like teething....

pamelat · 19/08/2010 18:16

wltk hope oscar ok, alex cried and cried, refused milk, eventually got calpol in to him where he promptly fell straight to sleep. No milk though so will be interesting Hmm

wouldliketoknow · 19/08/2010 18:28

he was alright all day, feeding and everything, just all of the sudden started screamming reaally upset

he had a very big poo at about five, could it be stomach upset?

wouldliketoknow · 19/08/2010 19:08

i have been able to put oscar on his bouncer, with rocking mode on, and he is still asleep, going to have a cup of tea now, before he wakes up... someone explain this afternoon to me, please!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 19/08/2010 20:55

Sorry to hear of everyone who had a bad day. We had a terrible afternoon as well, went to an agricultural show and DD was a nightmare :( Not really her fault, went with PILs and MIL is well-meaning with her but tends to wind her up. C was grumpy too because he's been needing lots of food today.

Mollycuddles - glad the fenugreek is working for you :)

Hollyoaks - sorry the registrar wasn't terribly helpful, I hope Grace is OK until next week.

MooseyMoo · 19/08/2010 21:03

Finally found this thread again!

wlk I have had similar problems with Sophie. She doesn't cry very often (am extremely lucky) but for 2 nights she cried from 8-11pm. We knew something was not right but couldn't work it out. 3rd day I found the tip of a tooth appearing [shocked]

She is now feeding inconsistently. Some feeds are fine, another she plays with the teat and feeds slowly. Other times she feeds fine and then starts crying. Assuming this is because her gums have started to hurt from sucking the teat.

On a plus note for me, I'm finally feeling really confident and managed to get out and meet other mums at playgroup and rhyme time at the library this week.

Sorry for no other personals but have just spent an hour catching up on this thread!

pamelat · 19/08/2010 21:20

before I throw in the towel with bfeeding, can I ask whether any others have noticed in the last week or so (Alex 13 weeks now) that feeds are short and "bitty", he will go to feed, cry, pull off and so it continues, except for first feed of morning and the night feeds.

really had enough of it now, and every time i feed him dd screams about it too.

he normally has 2 bottles a day, today 3.5 bottles and seemed much happier drinking those.

He on 92% so definately been making some milk Smile

TomlinTowers · 19/08/2010 21:26

Hi All

First1 - best of luck tomorrow, fingers crossed all goes well.

Hollyoaks - hope it all goes well between now and next Wednesday, and you get some answers next week.

Den - glad the appt with the drs went well, let us know when the date comes through and make sure you have plenty of support so you are free to concentrate on your boy.

Molly - glad you feel a little reconnected with your DH/ Shock at £72 for a blazer!!

WLTK/Pamela/Mooseymoo - noooo to the teething!! DS was a horror with teeth and it just seemed to go on forever from 7 months to 2 years old! Just goes to show how quickly our LOs are growing up.

LuckyC - Grin at your change of heart! I have many moments like that - always thought I'd have three children but switch from definitely having a third to definitely not - and it tends to link with how easy DS has been and how well DD has slept!

Pigley - well done on the photography, my DH is an avid photographer and when you have a talent for it, you can get amazing photos.

Had DD weighed at 13 weeks and she was 14lb 15 and still on 91st line. Am so proud of myself for BFing her exclusively this time after nightmare with DS. Really hope I can get through another 13 weeks but she is a big girl! Noticed today that her little toes are freakishly long - longer that her fourth toes! Wonder if that's a sign of anything other that having a father with size 12 feet?!

My Dsis' SIL is currently in her third day of labour - she had some problem with the growth of her second DS on the scans so the drs wouldn't let her go over her due date in case it was a problem with the placenta. Induced her on Tuesday and still waiting! She had her waters broken at 8 this morning and has been told if no progress by 10pm tonight she is off to theatre for C-sec. Fingers crossed for her! Although not what my DSis needs to hear at 28 weeks pg with her first!

Den26 · 19/08/2010 21:50

Molly - thanks for info re Fenugreek, think i'll try it.

Tomlin - thanks, good to hear from you. well done with the BFing :) Hope baby arrives soon!

Pamela - so sorry you are having a bit of a nightmare, i don't know how all you guys cope with more than one, seriously... It sounds like you are having a similar problem that i had, Rian fussed with boob during the day but took it at night and morning, i ended up giving him bottles during the day as it was stressing us both out. Sorry thats not much help.

Den26 · 19/08/2010 21:52

Oops, meant to say had first baby massage class today which was good but 14 babies in total in a very small room!!!!! I thought massage was supposed to be relaxing :)

millingtonsmummy · 19/08/2010 22:03

Just a quickie from me but pamela wanted to say am thinking of you. Can't really offer any feeding advice as DS ff since 2 weeks but would suggest not rushing the decision. It's awesome that you've fed him to this point.

On a mischievous toddler subject, I can totally sympathise. I find I get into a real downward spiral where she begins to thrive on me telling her off & her behaving badly. Bribery seems to have pulled her out of the latest gloom, promising to play her fav game at end of day if she behaves. Also trying my hardest to praise her for the good things, no matter how small. Thinking of you.

pigleychez · 19/08/2010 22:14

Den- I can definately recommend Little Impressions We tried the kits you do yourself but the clay just cracked and looked awful.
14 babys!- My class their was 4 of us :)

Hollyoaks- Hope the new routine isnt to stressful for you. Thinking of you.

Pamlet- I feel for you.. I HATE HATE HATE days like that!

Heffa- My Mum has a habit of pushing the wrong buttons too! So annoying.

Mooseymoo- Glad your getting out and about. Netmums.com is a good place to meet local mummies too :)

Tomlin- Fingers crossed for your sil'sil- Think thats right! Confused

Millington-We find that praise works really well for DD1 too. She always praises herself now too Hmm Its hilarious listening to her play! ' Good girl for playing nicely Mr lion'
Grin

Quite a productive day here. After the handprint we browsed the shops tantrum free! Home for lunch and housework and all the odd jobs, Shopping lists etc done for tomorrows shop and I even wrote a packing list for our little trip to Butlins in September!
Managed to get dinner ready for when DH came in too !

DH came to bed late last night and was rushing this morning and forgot to tell me that he won £1000 last night playing online poker Grin

Some of you will have seen my pic on FB of little Lucy sitting up! Shes always had a strong neck so it doesnt surprise me really. She can sit unaided for a few minutes. DD1 was sitting alone by 4mths so shes following in her footsteps.
Growing up so quickly!

Expecting a distrupted night as Lucy hasnt fed very much today.. 7am-12-5-7.30 not complaining just didnt seem interested in feeding?! Ho hum.

memorylapse · 19/08/2010 22:17

blimey going to struggle to catch up here!

am now more or less formula feeding DD..keeping up the breast feeding while working was causing me a lot of stress..and sadly Im suffering horrific migraines and am so pumped full of migraine meds I wouldnt be happy to breastfeed whilst on themSad

on a good note..had Olivia weighed today and she is 13lbs 4.5 oz and still spot on her centile line..HV was very pleased and couldnt beleive what a squidgy thing she is now!!
Despite being 18 weeks..we havent introduced solids yet..with my older children you were kind of expected to do it at 3 months..this time Im doing BLW..so am looking forward to just giving her some yummy finger foods to eat when she is ready
She seems to be eating a lot at the moment..every two hours almost..we still have our bedtime and early morning BF which is nice
Den..glad the consultant appt went well..it must be very frightening to think of your little one having such invasive surgery..but it sounds as though he will be in good hands and he will not remember any of this when he is older. I used to take Emmy to baby massage..she loved it.

Lucky..you think that now..give it a couple of years and you may change your mind!

Homebirth..your DD is obviously hungrier todaySmile..growth spurt maybe?

Hollyoaks.. weight gain wise..your LO may just be small..my eldest DD fell off her centile line and was always small...but that was just her....what will happen if the repair has narrowed again?? operate again? you poor thing..it must be very stressful for youSad

Angel..sorry to hear about the result of Willows ultrasound

Pamela..try not to stress over today..write it off and start again tomorrow..DD sounds like she is obviously feeling wobbly over her displacement and that feeling was directed at your visitor..she is only 2 though so Im sure the little boys mum didnt think she was horrid or anything...my 6 year old is being vile..she tried to drag Olivia off her change mat by her head todayShock..I need eyes in the back of my headHmm

DancingThroughLife · 19/08/2010 22:18

Very quick post, as am fighting to keep my own eyes open, but pam - YES, we have had all of that this week. I hadn't really put it down to anything, but I have noticed Darcey doing it. Also, she's been doing a bit of the playing that Moosey described and that makes her slip off because everywhere's covered in milk and drool. We're getting through muslins this week for sure Grin

Sorry I can't be very helpful with the other stuff. I wouldn't know where to start, but I'm thinking of you too. Hope its gets better soon.

Pigley, love your fb pics - a sitting up baby! Shock Grin

schipo · 19/08/2010 22:30

Tomlin - a three day labour! omg - i hope there's a happy outcome for one way or another soon.

WLTK - re sudden screaming, our baby often has a little scream before a poo, I can't imagine what's going on for him Sad. I've also known him scream at a boob too, either because he wants the other or because he's tired. Sometimes I wonder if he has colic or reflux when it happens, but I don't really know what either are or how to tell. Is reflux the same as being sick? Prolonged screaming for us these days usually seems to mean that he's late for a nap. He really screams so I'm very well motivated to get on top of the day time napping.

Pamelat - very sorry about your day. Hope your evening improved on it! Sounds like your DD would test patience of a saint! I have found that DS isn't always interested in feeding, he gets restless and comes off boob quickly. On then off again. I just assume that he's getting more efficient at it so doesn't need to spend all day doing it any more. He cheers up if i take him for a walk anyway so I think he's just bored. I haven't tried FF but he won't take EBM from a bottle so its quite different. He was on 91st centile at last check.

Hollyoaks - lets assume lack of xray was because they didn't think there's a big problem. Hope things go well this week. I know plenty of perfectly healthy babies, mostly girls, who are just small.

Den - nice to know its not just me playing it by ear Smile

Pigley - re Lucy's routine do you put her down at the same time every day or do you wait for her cues? Also, what do you put in a baby book? Haven't done anything like that but have a feeling I should.

Angel - I like your approach taking note of what happens on the better days with a view to having more of them. I might try that if I'm ever organised enough. Hope everything else is ok - you must be very strong.

MoggMum - great to see you online again too. Great pictures Smile

SK - I loved the photos of your LO on her first day at school btw, can't imagine anyone looking more excited and confident about the whole thing.

My boy's big achievement of the week is sitting up. If I hold his hands he pulls himself up. It's lovely watching him discover his back and enjoy the new perspective on things although he does fall if I let go. He loves it. It's soo sweet Grin

pigleychez · 20/08/2010 09:11

ML- My DD1 did that once to Lucy, not by the head though, the feet. We had words and she hasnt done it since!
Glad Olivia is doing well :)

Schipo- I have this book for both of the girls. I like it as it has little compartments to pop other bits in too as its spiral bound.
This one is sweet as it also covers your pregnancy and preperations for thier arrival plus your thoughts/feelings when you discovered you where pregnant and thier birth etc. A page for scan pics too.
Im a bit behind on DD1's too and the other night made a huge list of all the photos I need to print out. Feel abit of a session coming on!

Lucy's routine. Well I worked out she gets tired after being up for about 1.5/2 hours and can see the cues so pop her down for a sleep. She does fight it sometimes though, even though shes shattered. Shes just found her routine on her own really. Some days though shes completely changes the rules and is happily awake for hours!
Her long sleep after lunch is bliss as it usually co-incides with DD1's nap! Grin They can both have a good 2 or 3 hours some days!

Well last night wasnt as bad as expected after not drinking much yesterday. She did 8-4 then straight back off till 7.

How do your babies sleep? Lucy likes being swaddled but is outgrowing the blanket. Ive tried putting her in her sleeping bag but she doesnt sleep as well/long.
Bit worried about becoming stuck in the swaddling but on the other hand long sleeps are Gooooood!
What age is too old to be swaddled in bed? DD1 hated being swaddled so wasnt a problem Confused

memorylapse · 20/08/2010 10:57

Pigley..sadly I seem to be doing nothing but having words with dd at the momentAngry...I think shes had a personality transplant

Olivia tends to power nap in the day at the moment..prefering to nap in her loola..

we have started putting her upstairs at about 8 pm and have the baby monitor switched on..she seems to sleep blissfully in the dark and prefers rock music on the radio to sleep to!Grin...she then has a dream feed at 12 and sleeps till 5-6 ish..then she wants to get upHmm

wouldliketoknow · 20/08/2010 11:01

tomlin- my labour was 3 days, 2 of them in hospital, i hated the most everybody calling, is he born yeeeeet? i am going as fast as i can, was the response my dbrother got...Hmm
you keep losing mannesr as the hours go by, ended up wearing just an oversized tshirt no underwear...at that point didn't care what nobody thought...
thank you all on the sudden screamming advice, really freak me out...

pam- you need the patient of a saint with more than one, i think i'll wait till oscar is a teenager to have moreSmile

first, it's friday, thinking of you, let us know how you are when you can...

holly- thinking of you and grace, hopefully eerything will turn up ok.

molly- really good to hear your family life is coming back to normal, you really are a good support for us

pigley- you are supermum, and so cool about everything... really nice talking to you

baby books- i am impressed you bought special books, i just got a photoalbum, take lots of pictures and write comments on the side, to be honest, we try to photograph every single thing he does, first time parents typical?

den-fingers crossed,...

angel- hope your family life is sorting out one way or another,

newmomma- is it me or we haven't heard from you in a long time? hope you are ok, and bonding is going well

heffa- grandparents can be annoying, my pil keeps changing the rules as is convenient to him( read what mood he is in), can be confusing for the kids if yesterday they could have candy and today you are shouting because they want candy!

i think i am going to train as a breast feeding counsellor !, the other counsellors asked me if i would, as they think i'll be good amd i can honestly say to anyone that it pays to persevere, and i had pretty much all the problems you can have so it'll be difficult not to emphatise (?) with anyone... it will be good work experience when i finish the degree, so... if i am terrible and cry at every conversation i can always quit, right?

god, that was a long post, hope i didn't forget anyone...

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 20/08/2010 11:12

WLTK - good on you for training as a BFC. I think your experience would make you fab. I'd quite like to train for it but need to look into it a bit more.

Baby books - we have a couple of special ones. DH's grandmother bought one for DD and then she died while I was pg this time round so I bought one for DS. I like them and they offer me a prompt about what to put in. We have loads of photos too in various boxes and albums.

DD loves playing with Corin atm which is lovely.

My mum's great with the kids which is good. MIL is very enthusiastic but sometimes a bit clueless. She likes to show DD something to distract her but then doesn't let her do it IYSWIM? Like, "oooh look at those little girls riding donkeys - oh you're far too young" or "oh, let's buy some sweets - no, they're not for you, they're for Grandad" Hmm It's really annoying since it gets DD really upset.

hollyoaks · 20/08/2010 12:45

Hi everyone, again massive thankyou for all the support, I will get onto personal posts at some point, feel a bit self-absorbed at the moment.

ML - trying not to think about it but would assume it would mean further surgery :(

Just gave my first formula top-up and feel a bit weird :(. Not sure why as she guzzled down 2oz and probably could have gone for more but she's quite happily smiling in her play gym and talking to herself in the mirror.

First1 - thinking of you today, hope it's all gone well.

wouldliketoknow · 20/08/2010 14:19

holly, keep formula to the possible minimum, it messes up your supply, and don't worry too much, in time you might be able to get back to exclusive breast feeding, we just got away with the mid-day bottle, it's only 2 a day now, not bad from five 3 weeks agoSmile, but don't worry too much, and don't feel guilty, you are doing great, and she is still mainly bf, so...
could it be possible to enhance your supply or something like that? or am i just being silly?, sorry if tis is not helpful

cupcakefairy · 20/08/2010 17:00

Hi ladies
first thinking of you lots today really hope it's been ok & you're coping away from Chloe.

holly try not to worry. It sounds like Grace is a very happy baby I'm sure if there was a major health problem she wouldn't be playing and chatting etc. Have confidence in yourself you're doing a great job. You haven't failed for giving some formula. At the end of the day we all have to do what is best for our babies so whatever happens you'll know you always had her best interests at heart.

I don't have an 'official' baby book but wltk we are taking HUNDREDS of photos too. We can't bring ourselves to delete any either so just have them all stored on the external hard drive. We've decided we need to be a bit more disciplined and not take 50 photos of just one smile Grin
I do write bits and pieces in my diary so I don't forget the little things J does. ne of my NCT friends said she wrote a letter to her dd the other day, describing exactly how she feels about her now. I think that's a lovely idea and will probably do it too. Will be lovely (if a little soppy!) for them to read when they're older.

schipo since you said that about sitting up I tried it with J this morning and he loved it too, grinning away being pulled up by his arms. hink he is a bit fed up of being on his back now & wants to try new things!
Yes reflux means they bring things up all the time.

Something is definitely going on with J's gums/teeth as he grabs our fingers and chews on them, and soaks a bib with dribble regularly Hmm
Am going to go out and get him small teething things tomorrow as all the ones we have are too big for his little mouth bless him.

ML and others I can't believe how dinky some of the girls on our thread are. Olivia was one of the first babies and Jude one of the last yet they weigh the same Grin he is such a podger and despite being the youngest of our nct group by about a month is actually one of the biggest! Have put a couple of pics on my profile actually if anyone fancies a peek as I'm not in the fb group.

molly lovely to read you & dh feeling very contented, and that his mental state is good atm. Sounds like little molls has been a real blessing to you both (despite taking your boobs hostage!!)

pamela really hope you're ok today. I so admire you struggling through. Hope you can have a nice glass of wine tonight and put your feet up! You deserve it.

Ooh, am excited about Big Brother tonight..Blush how sad am I!!

wouldliketoknow · 20/08/2010 17:49

cup, we stored pictures in the computer too, only print like 3 of each for the book...Grin, i don't know if i can write a letter about my feelings without crying, also feelings quite mixed up, it's been a hard journey, i am dreading my hols, only because my mum, mil and sisters are going to ask about the birth and bf in detail and i don't want to cry...
lots of dribbling and bitting here too, we also stock up in everything to do with teething...

we are getting into a new routine here, bf only from the morning, anything from 7 to 9.30, bf only until 4, 4.30, then nap from 5.30, 6 till about 8,9 a bottle to sleep, awake for an hour or two, maybe a couple of oz to sleep about 10.30, 12... and till tomorrow.

pamelat · 20/08/2010 18:42

first thinking of you today

all thanks for kind words/support. Better day as my mum was around so she had Alex whilst he slept and I took DD swimming Smile, she was border line tantrumming but managed to cut it off. I think the problem is that when Alex is upset and I am dealing with him, I miss her signals and vice versa so end up with them both screaming!!

I dont like being outnumbered by them Grin

On more serious note, Alex is very unhappy. He is normally so content. No temperature so nothing to worry about but basically crying and shouting all day. Still cant breastfeed properly either but can drink formula Sad

Horrid green poo. Lots of shouting. Drooling everywhere, fists in mouth, think I can see a tooth ... poor soul. Hope I am not writing it off to "just" teething if he has something more serious, ear infection for example?

Given calpol, powders and gel .... he has gone to bed very early again 6pm.

We are having a chinese and some beer later.
