Hi Ladies,

I hope you don't mind, I started a new thread as our first one was quite full! I can't believe we're a quarter-way through the first year already! Smile

OP posts:

afternoon all!

hi Lucky! nice to hear from you, glad matilda doing well :) very difficult to keep up on here! Broodiness here too - are we mad?!!!

Wibbela - sorry to hear about tendonitis, hope gel relieves it :)

Molly - same here with clothes, think i'll need 3 changes a day for every item to get a use before he grows out of them!

Hollyoaks - hope your appointment goes well tomorrow. my friend has a 4 month old who's dropped off the centiles. has been looked into as she is breastfeeding but has huge supply, she was advised he's just a small baby. please dont feel bad if you have to add formula, i did when i took decision to mix feed but rian much happier and thats what matters i guess. you have done so well.

rian has slept through to 5am with no dream feed 2 nights in a row!!!

wouldliketoknow · 18/08/2010 16:08

sofa bound today feeding, i guess those errands will have to wait

mollycuddles · 18/08/2010 16:15

You and me both wltk

DancingThroughLife · 18/08/2010 16:20

Nice to hear from you Lucky. I struggle to keep up too! This is the first time I've manaaged to get on in days! BTW, the stork prezzie you sent is fab. Darcey smells absolutely delish after her bath Grin

I know I'm really behind, but reusable nappies - we use BG V3s as well and I love them. Just use a whole new nappy at each change and do a washer load every other day. We use a disposable overnight to make middle of the night changes easier, but they don't happen very often.

Schipo - my feet have done that a couple of times this week, after I said in my last post that it hadn't happened. What did that link say? I completely missed it, can't find it at all Confused

Pigley - congrats on the photography. I'm glad it's all going well!

Darcey had her jabs today too. She had a massive cry at the time but settled down after a big feed at the docs. Been grumbly ever since, but sleeping now though - bliss!

She was 12lb 7oz on Friday when I got her weighed, so she's gone from the 75th to the 50th centile line. The HV didn't seem worried, actually she commented on how well she's doing for a bf baby.

Hollyoaks - have faith in you and Grace. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself with bf especially if Grace is just a small baby, but at the same time don't feel like a failure if you do need to mix feed. I get so upset when people are made to feel bad about using formula. It's not always that black & white is it?

Angel - just emailed you again. Hope you're getting by. I know it's a really tough time.

Sorry, I know I've missed loads of personals. Will keep up as best I can, it's just been a manic week!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 18/08/2010 17:18

DancingThroughLife - hope Darcey (and you) are OK after jabs.

LuckyC - good to hear from you, glad it's going well :)

Hollyoaks - hope Grace is OK.

Pamelat - I think it's normal to be a bit grumpy after jabs for a couple of days.

WLTK - I think 15 weeks is about normal for a growth spurt but not sure. I never noticed growth spurts with DD, not sure she had any!

DD being very busy today! I found her naked and running herself a bubble bath earlier Hmm She wanted me to get in with her as well so that was nice Grin Little monkey though.

schipo · 18/08/2010 19:01

Where does all the time go?

Thanks for all the comments on washable nappies. Glad its not just me who finds it hard to keep poo from the flip/bumgenius outers. I can't seem to keep count of how many poos we see a day - probably at least 10 - often quite small but usually enough to get to the outer. I will investigate fleece liners. I only have 5 outer layers so far. I only really wanted to use them part time but still. I suppose I either buy more or wait until he's on solids. That will be very soon if the next three months go as quickly as the last.

Good to hear that Rian's appt went well. I hope the rest of it goes as smoothly.

Dancing - this is the link Rachel gave for Plantar Fasciitis I haven't been to GP yet (I'm going to talk to physio when I get my appt re pubic symphasis weakness) but I'm doing some stretches before I get up and they seem to help.

Wondering how many of us have babies napping to schedule and how many (like me) are just winging it?

I'm beginning to wonder if it's time to start having more of a schedule. I fear how much work it will be to establish and also frightened of becoming a slave to it. We get on pretty well as we are but somedays he sleeps for hours and some days just catnaps. He has started to get grisly in afternoons sometimes when I think he's just tired. I really don't know if trying to impose a schedule will help.

pamelat · 18/08/2010 19:35

Bit of a me post I'm afraid Blush

feel bit dissapointed in myself, had got in to a loose routine and last few days (post jabs) its gone to pot and alex has been so unhappy (not like him) dont know whether he is unhappy because of the jabs or unhappy because I have "given up" on his loose routine.

He had been sleeping 915-10am and then anywhere between 11 and 12 for an hour and a half. It was making his feeds stretch too, now back to horrid half an hour naps and constant feeding/crying.

Will give it a few days.

Every other day I am tempted to switch to formula but keep thinking that have got this far and might as well keep it up .....

wouldliketoknow · 18/08/2010 19:52

pam, don't worry too much, oscar was the same, constant feeding since 9 this morning until 5 or so he felt asleep and still going, he had a feed of 50 minShock...jabs always upset them, give a couple of days, poor thing.

pamelat · 18/08/2010 21:19

Thank you, know not just me (always think cant be feeding him enough, think I find it too much to imagine my body making milk!!) but he drank 240ml of milk at bed time, thats loads!!!

MoggMum · 18/08/2010 23:03

Hi all, just been trying to catch up with the thread having not posted for a while.

Can't believe Dylan is almost 3 months old already! He's lovely and I'm finding Motherhood a bit easier now Smile

Reading all your feeding posts with interest. Still BF here but having difficulty expressing at the moment. Dylan weighs 13lb at 11 weeks so must be doing ok.

schipo re routines - we have a bedtime routing (although this is flexible) but no daytime routine as such. Dylan was going up to 8 hours between feeds during the night and 4 hours during the day until recently. The last few days he's reverted to feeding every 3 hours again. Not sure whether this is just a growth spurt or not?!

I empathise with those suffering from Plantar Fasciitis. Had this a couple of times pre-pregnancy and ended up having steroid injections in the sole of my foot to get rid of it - painfull Shock

homebirthmummy4 · 19/08/2010 06:51

8pm, 12.30, 4.30. Best night ever!

sweetkitty · 19/08/2010 07:34

hi all will try and get a quick message in, his lordship has finally fallen asleep after feeding for the best part of 2 hours tonight! I think he is making up for his day feeds which are like 5 minutes and then he latches off and I cannot get him to take anymore, the wee sausage and he is started waking 3 times in the night too.

hollyoaks - sorry you are feeling so down you have done fab with the BFing. Sometimes I get a bit Angry that it seems whenever there is a problem with a BF baby the first thing anyone spouts is "get them on a bottle" whether it's not putting on weight/putting on too much/sleep issues/allegic issues you name it. Something like fenugreek as suggested might be a first try but if you want to use formula then don't feel guilty.

pamelat - I know where you are coming from, I feel my boobs and they feel soft and empty and I think he cannot be getting enough from them can he? Then you hear stories of FF babies sleeping through at this age and you are SO sorely tempted especially when you are shattered and it is draining that it is always you that has to do the feeds.

homebirthmummy4 · 19/08/2010 08:01

hollyoaks, i have been using fenugreek and whilst i havent had virginia weighed in 2 weeks she looks like she may have gained. she had previously gained a total of 13oz in 8 weeks. if you do need to supplement there is a device called a supplementer, you put formula or expressed into a bottle hanging round your neck, then tape 2 little straws attached to bottle to your nipple, baby then sucks, getting milk from bottle and stimulating your supply, i have used one, it works, ask NCT breastfeeding counsellors for one if needed.

homebirthmummy4 · 19/08/2010 08:21

Sorry to post again so soon. Since I have been keeping feeding records I am becoming obsessed.

Yesterday midnight to midnight virginia fed for 74 minutes total.

Today, midnight to 8.15 she has ALREADY fed for 50 minutes. What is going on? Is this normal?

mollycuddles · 19/08/2010 08:59

It would be normal here. In fact we're onto our second feed since midnight and the first one lasted well over an hour. I am tempted to download a feeding app but it would probably just depress me. Molls feeds a lot at the best of times but yesterday was even more constant. Increase in feeds duration - growth spurt maybe. I'm back on the fenugreek for pumping but no time yesterday.

Dd1 has gone to stay a few days with my dm and df. Today ds, dh, molly and me are going shopping. Ds needs a new school blazer and tie. Have to go into Belfast as only about two shops stock the stuff for his school. We might go out for lunch after. Don't think I'll go yo the gym today but legs feel fine this morning after yesterday. I was starving yesterday evening but only has dome crackers and cheese even though I was desperate for chocolate.

Good to hear from you luckyc and moggmum

Well done for the night oscar and wltk

AnAngelWithin · 19/08/2010 09:43

Hello all.

DD3 slept 9-6 last night, fed off me for 20 minutes then slept til 9am. Just given her a bottle. She only had 4oz out of is and has promptly thrown the majority of it up anyway Hmm Odd for her! She normally scoffs her morning bottle down. Shes been out of sorts the past few days anyway, waking at 3 am and being grumpy the rest of the night.

I have been writing down when she sleeps/feeds/how much she takes and moods in between for the past few days to see if there is a pattern on her 'content' days. She is pretty much FF now. I BF in the night if she wakes and in the evening after the kids have all gone to bed. Only 2 BF a day but at least it's relaxed when I do now. The length of time she was feeding for was really stressing me with so much else to do and I can't afford that with everything else that is going on at the moment! Might have been easier if it wasn't the summer holidays atm!

Had a letter through after a repeat ultrasound on willows hips, she has to see a consultant as her left hip isn't formed properly. Oh joy. Sad

dancing thanks for the email. It's nice to hear from you.

am going to reread the thread and try and post again before laptop dies....

LuckyC · 19/08/2010 11:05

I spoke too soon; Littlre Miss Matilda Brat screamed until 11pm last night then again from 3am-6am.

No more kids for me!

Angel, hopoe you're doing OK.

Carikube · 19/08/2010 11:41

Hi all,
Back at home after our holiday. DH depressed about it all as DD1 played up a bit, he didn't like having to stay with my parents and I think he is generally hankering after the days when we had 'nice' holidays to foreign places. Bit difficult with 2 under 18 months though I think we will try and go away next year...

DD2 had her jabs this morning but doesn't seem to be too bad. She's fed more today than normal though I'm guessing that there's a certain amount of comfort feeding going on (and possibly a growth spurt as well).

Hollyoaks, please don't be disheartened about Grace's feeding - some babies are just small. My DN has always been tiny (and was FF from birth) but is a happy contented little girl at the age of 3.

First - good luck with the op, thinking of you

Angel - what happens next with Willow's hips? Fingers crossed the treatment is ok.

Right, off to get lunch ready. It is freezing here today - am almost tempted to put the heating on Blush

cupcakefairy · 19/08/2010 13:04

Just checking in quickly...
All well here; we've been having the nappies to end all nappies here at cupcake towers though...right up to the neck and ruining my favourite outfits of J's! Grin he seems to find it hilarious though and grins away as I wash him.

He's finally enjoying baths more now I've tried them in the morning and a bit warmer too...he kicks and splashes, very cute :)

sassles I've done the exact same and missed the window on some lovely clothes for J that I thought would still be too big for him :( some of his 3-6 month stuff fits him already now though and he's only 11 weeks!

hollyoaks so sorry, you must be worried about poor little Grace. Hope the consultant can put your mind at rest and support you.

Right gotta go. Going out with NCT ladies sans babies tonight- eek! Trying to feed up the boy all day so he doesn't wake for dh Grin

pigleychez · 19/08/2010 13:35

Hollyoaks- Think of you at your appointment today.

Den- fab sleeping!Grin Lucy did 8-7 last night too.

Heffa- Grin at DD running herself a bath.

schipo- Lucy usually naps 3 times a day. About an hour mid morning and late afternoon and has a good 2or3 hours around lunchtime.
Both girls take after mummy and like thier sleep!

Pamlet- Dont worry about routines, Jabs have a habbit of upsetting things. Lucy was very grumpy after hers yesterday. Couldnt put her down all afternoon, fighting her sleep and fussing her feeds.
Im sure things will settle back soon.

Angel- Hope the repeat scan goes ok.

Carikube- Holidays with LO's are never relaxing are they! I remeber our first trip with DD1 at around 14mths, We had a couple of hellish days untill she got familiar with the new surroundings.
A lady who i was chatting to today said they had a 2 hour rule and never went further an 2 hours drive for holidays :)

Cupcake- I was only thinking about that earlier actually when packing the changing bag. DD1 would always leak through to her clothes and have numerous changes of clothes when out and about. Lucy has a few little leaks but nowhere near as bad. I havent used the spare clothes I have packed in the change bag.
You watch her prove me wrong now! Shock

Lucy had her Little Impressions handprint done today so looking forward to seeing that when its ready :)

Got a letter today inviting Lucy for a development check now shes 3mths. Im pretty sure DD1 never had one at this time, she wasnt seen again by the health visitor till her 2yr check!
I joked with DH that its to check im coping ok with 2 little ones!

I too am freezing today! I thought this was August!?!

Den26 · 19/08/2010 15:21

Schipo - completely winging it here with regards to schedule, don't really have one and just going with what his majesty wants - I think he must know his name means 'little king'!!!

Angel - hope all ok with hip appointment, our feeding sounds like mine. Rian BF overnight and in morning then FF during the day.

Pigley - impressions sound good, we tried to get prints of Rians hands and feet as i intend to make him a scrap book (although he may just get the bag of things i have collected to do it instead of a lovely completed book!!!) the prints were a distaster! Big smudges for his hands he he! :)

Cupcake - bathtime a winner here too, he loves it and tries to drink the water!!

Re Fenugreek - those who take it are you having tea or capsules and is it working? I am considering giving it a try.

hollyoaks · 19/08/2010 15:25

Hi everyone, thanks again for the kind messages and support. I'll apologise in advance for the me post but I'm typing with one-hand though I am reading everyone's posts.

Saw registrar today who thoroughly checked her over and took a detailed history of her feeding and weight. They were concerned that she's not pooing every day Hmm and said that the repaired part of her bowel may have narrowed again :(. However, as her belly isn't distended and she doesn't seem to be in pain they have asked me to take away her dummy and wake her at night for a feed Shock and offer top-ups after bf and they will check her weight again on Wednesday next week. I'm a bit :( about top-ups but will have to wean shortly anyway for going back to work in November.

So still no further forward, we'll just have to wait till next week. Wish they'd just x-rayed her today.

mollycuddles · 19/08/2010 16:50

Re fenugreek - it's amazing. Molly is definitely more satisfied although I'm not managing to express yet. Rushing about today getting organised for back to school. £72 for a blazer. I smell decidedly of curry but dh doesn't seem to mind! I'm using the capsules and it's 2 of them x3/day. Boobs are way fuller. I posted on bf forum for advice about using galactologues and felt the famous tiktok was a bit dismissive (paranoid probably). But it's a winner so far. Molls is actually asleep at the moment. If she stays settled I'm going to look at the vast piles of 2nd hand clothes I was given as need to sort out the 3-6 month stuff properly. She is wearing her new size today and it fits well. Amazing that she might even sit up unaided in this size. It's happening too fast. Not that she's been in it more than twice but the moses basket needs to be put away and she's out of her baby bath - much prefers the extra room to splash around and swim in the bug bath. I am so proud of her.

wouldliketoknow · 19/08/2010 17:27

hi all

first bottle today at 4.30 pm, not bad
the ladies at bf support group want me to train as a counsellor, have to think that one, not sure...

will come back later

pamelat · 19/08/2010 17:50

Hi all, feel thoroughly depressed.

My 2 year old has had me in tears this afternoon by being so damn horrid. She is eing lovely now but thats not the point. She hit a little boy that I had invited round this afternoon. Being new to an area, its not a good start with his mum. And then she melted down, screaming etc and just being spiteful/manipulative etc. Worryingly she has said that she doesnt want me to have any friends Sad as she is my best friend.

On top of that Alex has now been upset since his jabs on Monday, and would appear to be teething. With him unsettled in the days its very very hard to manage difficult toddler behaviour, almost impossible really and I feel that I cant cope.

As a result of this, I have ended up formula instead of breast feeding on 2 occassions today. Alex screamed at boob, seems to hurt him Sad proper screaming so have given half bottles of formula after "rubbish" breast feeding, ie) on and off, on and off and only a few minutes.

I may give up feeding.

DH just come home, hence on mumsnet and cant beleive how upset Alex seems.

DD being angelic as knows she has been difficult etc
