Hi Ladies,

I hope you don't mind, I started a new thread as our first one was quite full! I can't believe we're a quarter-way through the first year already! Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
homebirthmummy4 · 20/10/2010 15:34

shamelessly trying not to lose thread! hi all, hope you are all well x

millingtonsmummy · 20/10/2010 22:27

Evening all. Quick post from me as need some zzzzzzz. Expecting a disturbed night as DD (2.9) came down with chicken pox today. Not many spots yet & she's dosed up on calpol & piriton. Poor poppet. She's caught it from nursery rather than anywhere we've been together so just as she'll be getting better, Harry's likely to come down with it too. Ouff! At least I've already planned to visit my parents next week, they can help me out but should save me from going entirely stir crazy in one place.

molls thanks for the tip about worms. DD potty trained in day so a hard one to check. She wears a nappy at night which she's started wetting again after weeks of it being dry. Doc commented that it makes a perfect environment for the thrush. She also commented today that the thrush symptoms could be connected with the chicken pox virus. We're to go back when she's better from the pox so Doc can take a swob.

Right really must sleep. Sorry no personals. Love to all xx

mollycuddles · 20/10/2010 23:32

Re worms checking - best check at night. Take nappy down and lift legs up, part buttocks slightly and worms if they are there will be seen at anus. Look like a cotton thread. The female worm only comes out at night to lay eggs and it's this that causes the itch.

Have now probably made you all grossed out and itchy

Sorry :)

Den26 · 21/10/2010 11:12

WLTK - sounds a good idea to see if she contacts you atleast you know that she will make the effort, its awful but people do change. Will keep mandarin juice in mind :) Happy playing with phone studying!

Millington - chicken pox is horrible, hope DD gets better soon and that it misses Harry?? I think its better to have the virus young tho isn't it?

Thanks for your description Molly!!! I'm sure i will never forget it so handy if i need to look in the future lol!!

wouldliketoknow · 21/10/2010 11:43

hi all
little time so short message
molly thanks for the description, might be gross, but how many gross things you do for the babies, sure will be useful some day. hope you are feeling better.
millington take comfort in knowing that the youngest they are the lesser the illness is, dh had chicken pox at 19 and it wasn't funny, i never had it so better be careful when oscar does... hopefully next week at your parents you'll have some help and a little break...
den friend still missing, time flies in miami...we'll see next year if she call when she comes back, if she comes back...

not much to report here, weighting clinic today, and then report to grandma to see what she thinks, you wouldn't believe the control she has on the grandchildren upbringing, but we can't complain, she is the source of every advice and very helpful.

hollyweens · 21/10/2010 15:37

Fell off again! Just a quickie as must tidy house before dh gets in, it's in a bit of a tip [hblush].

Completed my bf peer support training today and made some new friends with babies of a similar age so will be nice to spend some time with them. We also celebrated dn's 1st birthday last night with a family meal. Not sure if you remember but she was born last year at 30 weeks and 3lb 10 oz, glad to say she's doing fine, nearly walking. It was also the anniversary of dh's van crash, I had a few tears before bed, especially after reading Trinity's story, can't imagine getting through this year without him. Yesterday made us very grateful for all the good things we have. [soppyemoticon]

Hope everyone is well [hsmile]

Molly - thanks for the worm description!

TwentiethCenturyHell · 21/10/2010 19:24

Pigley - train ride sounds fab, we're doing a Santa train trip round here at Christmas too :) Can't wait! DD has been reading recently as well, we were a bit surprised!

Tomlin - hope your DSis is still OK :) Must have been a bit disappointing but I guess she won't need to wait for long!

WLTK - thanks :) I do normally trust my instinct but some GPs I've seen can be a bit dismissive when LOs are poorly.

Mollycuddles - driving going fine thanks :) I quite enjoy it but not looking forward to the test (whenever it happens!) Thanks for the info on worms, good to know what to look for!

Den26 - I'm OK now thanks :) Took a week off from going to sessions and have quite enjoyed it! Don't worry too much about weaning, it'll happen :)

Millingtonsmummy - hope your DD is OK!

Hollyweens - congratulations on finishing your BF peer support training, how fab! Glad your DN is doing well, that's great. Trinity's story always makes me really sad and really appreciate my DH.

Hope everyone's had a good day! DH late home this evening so have put kids to bed, made myself a pizza and will watch Ugly Betty :)

homebirthmummy4 · 21/10/2010 20:21

oh worms! i had forgotten about them. goodness when you think about it we have a lot of revolting things happen to us dont we, my firstborn caught ringworm from a kitten we got when she was 9months, took ages to be diagnosed, had little round bald patches and still has a scar on her arm.

we have the lovely prospect of a weekend of being just me, dh and dd4 this weekend but have no idea what to do with it, dont want to waste it and although i will miss dds1-3 it is a golden opportunity, any suggestions???

this week i have discovered that 2 of virginias baby friends (same age) are to become older siblings I WANT ANOTHER but am trying to settle my mind to it never happening Sad

wouldliketoknow · 21/10/2010 21:23

wow, hold your horses, hbm4, far too soon, i can believe anybody with a baby as ours is seriously pregnant already... nooooooooo way!

we wnt to the clinic today to a very stupid hv who told me taht:

  1. oscar is ready to be weanned and i should have srated already, about 4 times
  2. i have to give him baby rice, i told her i don't want to, and she told that it will not harm him 5 times, 5 only because i told her to shup up! i am not giving him baby rice and that's it!
  3. she insists this either is not my first baby Hmm [ i think i should know emoticon] or i have worked with children [funny forgotten that if i would emoticon] because i am very confident and calm with my baby and i don't have any concerns, also informed me, make a note of this ladies, that is why he is a calm, happy baby and sleeps through the nights, so all those with non sleeping babies, just chill, the hv said so.
she also managed to get a mouthful from some other mums, what the do an i q test and if you get more than 80 you don't pass?

on the good news, oscar is now 8.3 kg (18lb 4) and well established between the 500 and 75 centile, she refuses to measure his length because, wait for it, there is only 5 spaces in the chart and i already used 4... so i did it myself at home, which i told her i would do.

rant over

wow

wouldliketoknow · 21/10/2010 21:25

ups, my post looks weird and with typoos Blush

pamelat · 21/10/2010 21:27

homebirth wow older siblings already Smile

I need more sleep before I would even contemplate that! Alex's sleep has become appalling (never been good)

Last night he went 7-10-230 (feeds at 10pm and 230am) then DD woke at 3am for an hour crying (happens once a fortnight or so at the mo) and then Alex woke half hourly or so from 3am for his dummy Sad am beyond tired but went to gym to do body pump class (creche pre booked and would lose money, should havejust sat in the sauna) and struggled through the afternoon in my sweaty gym kit Blush

on a positive, dd's behaviour been a lot better today, 2 tantrums but not all day whining and actually got on with 2 kids!! Smile no chick pox.

Den26 · 22/10/2010 12:31

Hey All! Happy Friday :)

Holly - welldone re BF training, meeting others sounds fab too. Sounds like you had quite an eventful day! Thats great DN is doing great.

HBM4 - wow babies on the way already! I can barely function nevermind being pregnant on top of that - more reasons for no sleep at night!!! I do want more soon though although i keep thinking its not fair to Rian to have another yet Hmm, think i'll wait till he's 1 - or just before :)

WLTK - Angry for you re HV - aargh! whats the point sometimes!

Pamelat - wow! welldone for going to the gym on so little sleep! glad DD behaving better!

I've got a busy weekend here - both sets of grandparents up this weekend and my mum n dad staying up for a hol next week (in caravan not at mine!) My gran and 2 cousins up staying mon til wed!!

I've also got a meeting at work on monday as beds on my ward are closing which means there will not be enough work for 2 senior staff so one of us will have to go else where - aargh! why is nothing ever simple. Just hope meeting productive and not the ususal going round in circles with no outcome and just a date for another meeting!!

on an up note - half cube pear puree eaten here!! woo hoo! slow n steady...:)

Have a great weekend n will catch up when i'm visitor free :)

Carikube · 22/10/2010 13:44

HBM I have to confess that I was pg with DD2 at this stage in DD1's life [hblush]. Not happening again so quickly though; periods still haven't restarted and having 2dcs already is quite a good contraceptive [hgrin]. I do keep thinking about DC3 and if we were to go for it, I think it would be better if they were born before DH turns 50 in 17 months time...which doesn't actually sound that long really which is a bit worrying...eek!

Saw HV this morning just as I had nothing else going on; DD1 still not at 24lbs at 19mo and DD2 is nearly 16lbs at 5mo so catching up fast. She looked at DD2's chart and said it was rubbish that I was ever told to top her up with formula which is comforting.

DD2 had her latest session at the cranial osteopath yesterday and he promised it would help with her sleeping (she's been waking once a night for a couple of weeks and has been rubbish at sleeping during the day) and lo and behold she went straight through last night, having had 2 hours yesterday afternoon and is asleep again now. He said her head shape has improved so we're just going to see how she gets on over the next couple of weeks before bothering to make her another appointment.

Hope everyone has a good weekend...

wouldliketoknow · 22/10/2010 18:19

hi all, not much to report here... made fajitas for lunch, from scratch, not from a box, and dh liked it, i am a bit rubbish at cooking...

den- don't worry i did shout at the hv, so did 3 other mums, we kinda gang up on her... but she deserve it, she asked another mum why was she still bf at 5 months... could kill her...
pam- take me to the gym with you, otherwise i won't go Blush pool tomorrow, poool tomorrow..
carikube- great that the osteopath can help, i got a friend who calls hers miracle worker...

gotta go, monster hungry.

pamelat · 22/10/2010 20:09

Hi all

DD has chicken pox. She is coping really well and it explains awful behaviour earlier in the week.

She was up 3 times crying last night. I had to lie with her in the end

Alex woke SEVEN times, yes seven. I would imagine he will get it next Sad

Bit tired and fed up but Dh has agreed to only play home hockey games, such a relief.

TomlinTowers · 22/10/2010 20:57

Hi All

Just a quick one - I became an Auntie today!! DN born tonight by c-section after a 48 HOUR labour - poor DSis!!!! Going to see her tomorrow, can't wait. Just had a McDonalds to celebrate and it was yummy!

x

TwentiethCenturyHell · 22/10/2010 21:26

Tomlin - Congratulations!! Hope your DSis is OK, have fun seeing your DN tomorrow [hsmile]

Pmaelat - hope you manage to get a rest tonight. Yay for your DH! That must be a weight off your mind. Hope your DD is feeling better soon and that Alex is OK.

WLTK - love fajitas [hgrin] They're delicious. Haven't made any for ages, really fancy them now! HV sounds very stupid, hope your rant helped! I saw a quote on MN the other day that HV's exist to point any inadequacies your mother may have forgotten to mention which made me laugh.

Have now lost 34lbs, which is good! Starting to lose a bit of motivation now though so need to encourage myself to press on. DS keeps waking up at about 5.30am and babbling in his cot next to me Hmm Very cute but a bit distracting, I'll have to try giving him a toy tomorrow morning.

mustbemadno3 · 22/10/2010 21:39

Hi All, congratulations 'tt' nice news...girl or boy and what has she called him/her?

'pamelat' sorry to hear about your friends friend thats terrible. Hope Alex hasnt got cp and your dd is feeling better...along with her behaviour!

Well Lillia was weaned at 19 weeks shes 24 weeks now. So all going good in that department. But shes got a terrible cough and very runny bum so think shes either teething or picked something up.
We have been in hospital for the whole of half term! My ds2 has been having tests done for his epilepsy, he was confined to 1 room and not allowed out of the door, we had cameras on us 24/7. Slightly difficult with 3 kids and 1 being a baby so she could well have picked something up from hospital. Fortunatley the testing ended 2 days early as he had enough sezuires/abnormality to go on and therefore became too dangerous to continue. But its also unfortunate as I doubt he will ever be off the drugs. We have to wait now to see if they can operate.
I was mortified by him telling the drs how my boobs look like prawn crackers!!! little bugger!

Well sorry not many personals I cant seem to keep up with the thread!!! I read them but cant remember them all sorry!!

mollycuddles · 23/10/2010 00:54

Will attempt a few personals during another late night feed. We are not sleeping well at present. She's not especially hungry but seems to want to chat in the early hours and be held in the standing position. Dreadful night last night. Dh had to take over this afternoon and dd1 fed molls ebm while I slept. Think co sleeping isn't working so well and will have to try a bit harder with her cot. I'm much better from my cold thanks but annoyed as had nice trips out planned all week and they were cancelled and I'm back to work in less than 2 weeks. :( :(

wltk - stupid hv. I'm not doing baby rice or before 26 weeks either. Great growth from young Oscar. Fajitas sound yum.

Hollyoaks/weens - congrats on the course and glad for the good news about dn and nothing wrong with soppiness. I nearly lost dh a few years ago and it really makes you appreciate them even when they're annoying you

heffa/hell - hope the you time went well. Impressed re weight loss. I've ground to such a halt but not put any of my original losses back on. Motivation when exhausted and busy is so hard.

mbmno3. Sounds very stressful at the hospital. Being on long term meds is such a pain but he might yet grow out of it.

den26 is dp behaving any better? Hope the visitors behave too! Impending changes at work sounds tough. Hope it gets resolved soon.

tomlin yeh to dn and dsis. Phew. What a relief after all that. Hope the mamas&papas situation is resolved soon too.

:( to chickenpox pamelat. Hope it's not too traumatic and :) to resolution of the hockey situation.

Osteopath sounds great carikube. Hope the good sleep persists for you.

hbm older siblings to be. Eek. Too soon here and would practically be the immaculate conception. Poor dh. Are you sure you're not taking the plunge again? I said Molls was the last one but I'm not sure now. A colleague's wife had a baby last night and I did feel a pang when I saw him post on FB.

mustbemadno3 · 23/10/2010 15:06

mollycuddles - know what you mean re lack of sleep. Lillia has never really slept thru and is terrible at the minute as shes been so poorly. Im knackered!
Wasnt too stressful at hospital, infact it felt like a break!! Unfortunatley wont grow out of as he had meningitis and its left him with symptomatic epilepsy.

wouldliketoknow · 23/10/2010 16:08

mbmno3- a friend of mine had meningitis as a baby and was left with a bit of paralysis and epilepsy and he is now as an adult a succesful athlete who makes a living as a runner, has gone to several olympic games and has plenty of medal, there is hope...

perpetuallypregnant · 24/10/2010 18:23

Helloo, it's katnkankles, haven't been on for ages, it's been hectic with 4 dcs!

Ava isn't sleeping, she's a nightmare. She's lovely and happy during the day but on a night she goes to bed okish and then wakes up about 2 ready to get up! I'm knackered, particularly as I'm 12 weeks pregnant with DC5 (BIG SHOCK).

I'm due May next year. I have to say I'm still a bit devastated (I had an implant in but was apparently already 3 weeks preg).

mbmn3 My dd2 has epilepsy, she takes epilim for it. She has no other problems apart from being a stroppy 7 year old!

pamelat · 24/10/2010 19:14

katnknakles perpetually pregnant congratulations!!! Grin I am impressed/happy for you/jealous and at the same time a littler relieved it isnt me.

Am really torn about ever having a 3rd. I find it all very difficult until they are about 1 and then I find it just difficult Smile

Huge congrats to you though Smile

Be interested to hear reponses re ava as alex is exactly the same. Happy all day, naps ok but with dummy reliance then after about 2am feed he is just awake/hunting for dummy/shouting etc .... but lovely all day. I am very very tired. I dont think I would cope being 3 months pregnant.

When was Ava born?

pamelat · 24/10/2010 19:15

sorry, just seen, 18 May. Day after Alex Smile His sleep has been like this forr about 5 weeks now. I am really really hoping its teeth related??

mustbemadno3 · 24/10/2010 20:10

perpetually - congratulations, I hope the shock soon subsides and you feel excited. Mind you I would be shocked if it was me!

Ds2 tried Epilim but he had side effects and made his sezuires worse. Hes tried at least 5 different aeds but nothing has worked, hence why we were in hospital having tests to try to find the focus so they can operate. His epilepsy is quite refractory despite taking 12 tablets a day. Plus he has other problems so its kind of a viscious circle.

Pamelat perpetually - dito with bad sleeping, Lillia wakes about twice sometimes three times a night and I try not too feed her but often do but I am sure she wakes through habit. But shes started to scream when I put her back down. I leave her but I cant get back to sleep until shes gone off!
Has Alex and Ava got a runny bum at all?
