mrs w-hope you had a nice birthday and ate plenty of chocolate.

Junies! Helloo!!

MrsW - Happy Birthday!!

I've been away for ages and really missed you all - like Lippy I've been having computer problems for the past week - in that dp has commandeered my gorgeous new laptop . I'm trying to gradually get it back but it may take some time. At the moment I can only use it on an evening, if he's here.

Tea - since my "colic" post (I'd had about 5 glasses of wine when I wrote that I think ) I've not really taken him out much - only when it's really unavoidable - clinic, Tesco etc because he does seem to get overstimulated easily.

I almost posted a few days ago and started composing one of my epics, but dp closed the Sticky I was typing it on without saving it grrr. There is no hope that I will ever catch up now. Hope I've not missed anything.

Last time I posted, Arlo was due to have his follow up appt with the consultant - well he did and I am pleased to say everything looks absolutely fine - he said he seems like a completely normal baby. In fact he said he was advanced! (might've had something to do with me saying to him - "would you say he's advanced??"

Lynny - I am having exactly the same problem as you - during the day ds only takes an oz or so then complains and it's very difficult to keep going with a feed. For instance so far he's only had about 430mls. He's very good on a night though so hopefully will catch up. Doc said it was reflux so I have been giving him Gaviscon with his Aptamil. Up to medium flow (no 3) teats now. Not sure if the teats get blocked though otherwise this would happen on a night too. Rooster????!

Mandy/KVG - I've been thinking about starting to swaddle ds - he's nearly 9 weeks old though - do you think it's too late? I did swaddle him in the very beginning but it got too hot. I have a Miracle Blanket - I think it looks too hot for hot days, probably fine in cooler ones (they're made of brushed cotton), not used it yet.

Coop - have you tried using a sling round the house to settle you baby while you're seeing to dd1? I use an Ellaroo with ds and it enables me to potter around and do stuff which I wouldn't be able to otherwise.

KVG - I'm trying to "do" the Baby Whisperer too - and I cannot get ds into 3 hourly cycles - and I'm bottle feeding. He doesn't eat enough, doesn't sleep long enough or "activity" long enough.

Hope you're all well!

So pleased all is well with Arlo Charleypops, I was getting worried when we hadn't heard from you after so long. Hope you explain to DP how important it is that you've got mumsnet time Love the advanced baby comments

Thanks for the birthday wishes - as you might guess by the fact that I'm on here, my birthday hasn't been the wildest I've ever had. DS2 is not as restful as he was (he wants entertaining when he's awake, and he was awake alot today) so I still haven't managed to finish reading Heat, how sad is that?! Then me and DH had a big row over something really minor (baby tiredness and work-stress, what a lovely combination), made up (notice the lack of a wink there) and now he's gone to bed because he's knackered!!!!

On the bright side, I got two boxes of Thorntons chocolates Off to finish my glass of red and have a couple (chocolates not boxes).

tribpot · 24/08/2005 21:44

Charley - great to hear from you! So pleased. More tomorrow.

I see I am the only one with a "toy boy who is not", like this:

Friend: "So, what's it like dating a younger man?"
Me: "He's 18 months older than I am"
Friend: "Errr, oops".

Hey ho! He does have a baby face, I know this because our baby has the same face.

Anyway, hope all well, loving the Lippy posts. More later! xxx

JonahB · 24/08/2005 22:01

Evening ladies,

Mrs Wed, happy birthday! If there is any Heat gossip we ought to be aware of, do share it . Oh, and if you can eat 2 chocs and stop there, you are definitely a better person than me.

Charley, good to hear from you and glad to hear that we have such an advanced baby in our midst. You must be v.pleased and proud

Lua, I suddenly had one of those awful, head in hand moments that I ignored a message you wrote to me ages ago. I am SO sorry. You mentioned you had been at our local sainsbury?s. Do you fancy meeting up for a coffee some time (not in sainsbury?s, I hasten to add)?

Lol at all of you commenting about your DS?s looking like they?re wearing a dress in their babygrows. I?ve put DS in a babygrow for the 1st time this evening and my DH looked down at him, and said, ?oh my g-d, my son looks like a little girl?. Glad it?s not just our (very masculine) little boy . Can I ask for all those already using them, do you put your DS/DD?s in them for daytime naps as well or just evening sleeps?

Well, after our 1st night of DS sleeping through (sun), he didn?t manage it the following night, but we did have a repeat performance last night. AND I actually had to wake him up this am for his morning feed. Bless my little man and his stripy dress.

charleypops · 24/08/2005 22:18

Ha ha Lynny - I know who Rooster are - didn't they come up with that classic line "My love for you is deep and meaningless .." ? Blessem.

I'm struggling with Avent bottles at the moment - but `i'll get a Tommee Tippee one tomorrow if you say they're good - Arlo has never had as much as 5oz all at once before. I've already got a huge pile of newborn stuff to go on Ebay (right PITA isn't it??)- I'm putting him in 0-3 month stuff, but it's still a bit big.

Well done on selling your camper van at such a huge profit - what sort was it? my friend did the same - I think she made about £3k on a VW something.

Lol Trib - ouch! I think I've aged about 20 years in the last 8 weeks myself! Hopefully when our little darlings are sleeping through we'll reemerge as the goddesses we truly are

Poor you MrsW - thank goodness for wine!!

I'm off to bed - earliest night ever I think!

Yes - it's lovely to have an eminent neurologist say that one has an "advanced" baby. Just wait 'til I see that competitive cow from lunch a couple of weeks ago that I posted about...

nighty nights x

bubbaloo · 24/08/2005 22:46

welcome back charley-glad everything's well with arlo.

jonah-we only put ds in his sleeping bag at night.during the day he either kips on his playmat or in his swing.

ds has also outgrown so many of his clothes.he's in 0-3 stuff but its only just fitting him.shame,as he's got some lovely little outfits that he never had the chance to wear.i'll save then for the next one, though.

lummox · 25/08/2005 09:24

hi all. Charley/KVG/Mandy - we have swaddled ds from the very start. We try occasionally to get him to sleep without it (I've worried that he might overheat) but he won't so we've left it.

BUT Charley, he absolutely hated the miracle bag (or torture bag). I haven't even felt able to sell it or give it away because he hated it so much that I wouldn't want anyone else getting one from me. We use a Kiddopotamus bag which also has velcro - can give you the web address for a site if you would like one. That said, we only use it because we're lazy and it would probably be better to get used to using cotton/muslin sheets. As it is we've only got one bag, so have to wash it quickly each time.

Glad to hear your baby advanced. Am also queitly proud and sure that if competitive dribbling is introduced in the 2012 olympics our ds could be a world champion.

teabelly · 25/08/2005 09:41

Morning Ladies

Hurrah - CHARLEY - welcome back...was getting a wee bit worried about you there LOL at trying to see 'that' lady again - wouldn't it be great if you did see her?? You'll have to 'stalk' the restaurant in the hope she turns up again!

Lippy - ROFL at your posts...jst o make yo eel a home I agee e shold all pos lke ths oday!

Lynny - glad you're having success with the teats...dd is the same very sucky and takes in huge amounts of air, followed by big sick when the wind comes up if the teats are too small. We tried Omneo Comfort a while back in her colic phase...it's abit of a PITA to do as you have to mix it with hot water, and it's better mixed on demand rather than in advance and refidgerated. Smells yucky too and looks like watery mashed potato, so I'd think carefully about changing if she appears to be abit better. It didn't help dd at all so I gladly changed her back, but I know lots of people (including our hv) who swear by it.

Trib - he he he at the 9 month old...just think your little Toby will be decimating his toys and your home like that in a few months time!

Red - don't envy you the lack of sugar thing...having a huge carob bar just doesn't quite make up for it does it

Mrs W - I posted my thread for advice on dealing with ds' and his favorite new friend...general consensus seems to be to ignore them. He's now discovered girls bits - bathing dd yesterday he kept patting her nu nu and saying 'ooh does that feel nice?'

Lua - not only do we have the toy boys, anniversaries and 2nd births in common we're also both part hungarian!!!! Spooky eh

Hope you all have good days today, we'll take advantage of the first bit of sun all week to go to the park or farm I think - ds has been a poppet this morning, and I want it to stay like that . Catch you all later, x

teabelly · 25/08/2005 09:43

LOL at the dribbling Lummox - we have a contender here as well, that and being able to find the square inch not covered by a muslin to puke on

lummox · 25/08/2005 09:59

Now keep thinking about the June 2005 babies olympics. ds needs three team-mates for the staying-awake-with-staring-eyes relay. Any takers?

mandymac · 25/08/2005 10:10

Post and run re: olympics.

dd will be entering mad staring, farting and belching events - in fact she will be doing a triathlon!

hello all
feel ok today. dd had second round of vaccines tuesday, i swear she seemed to know what was coming, she started crying the minute we got to the treatment room after being fine with hv and waiting room. she screamed the heart wrenching way but was settled quickly and after quick confort feed we were on our way. she was fine and just like last time was a bit off the following day but no temp.
have beguin to accept that no two days are alike and better not make plans to avoid frustration. glad she sleeps from 9-10 till 6 has feed and nap till about 8.
am working on daytime naps sometimes she settles fine sometimes not interested at all still i try, think it makes for better nightime rest. but sometimes this means letting her sleep on my lap, what would i do if i had another child...
still planning on that haircut, that and some new clothes would do me a world of good, depressing looking at old clothes 2 sizes too small... dh keen on holding baby at weekend so might take full advantage and run

LipstickMum · 25/08/2005 12:34

Cooperoo · 25/08/2005 12:40

Hi all - So much to catch up on!!!
SFX - Hope you get shopping this weekend. I have an order en route from Next at the mo.
Lynny - Hope you get some sleep today. Poor you.
Mrs W - Happy Birthday and hope the chocs were lovely. Might need to have a choc ice now as that is the closest thing to choc in the house at the mo.
Mandy - Your dd sounds very bonny! Bless her.
Lippy - ROFL at your posts. LOL. I feel like you are chatting with a foreign accent to translate. Keep the posts coming. There is a sense of achievement when I work out what you mean.
Trib - Microwave heating - from what I can work out everyone does it even though it is strictly forbidden lol. Even when you think you have a toddler proof house a new toddler comes along and proves you wrong by doing something your dd/ds has never thought of.
Charley - Good idea about the sling. The only prob might be that it is so hot but I think you are right to give it a try. Thank you. Good to hear from you and Arlo too . Aren't you going to save the newborn clothes for the next one .
Hi Lummox - DD will be up for the staring wildly event.
Tea - lol at your ds again. Nunu is a nice word for her bits.....I still can't decide on what to call dd's hee hee. DH turned his willy into a winkle last week though when she asked. Might be an idea to keep it that way as she has an Uncle William who is sometimes Uncle Willy...
DD1 has taken to sucking her dress after she saw dd2 doing it . I have given her a muslin to use instead in the hope she will get bored/leave it behind. Potty training is still going well and we even had an outing today. Still going commando though.
dd2 is blowing bubbles at me. We still have no routine at all despite my best intentions. She does seem to be going longer between feeds though and managed four hours last night and then 3 and a half yay. I guess we might get a routine when dd is back at creche and fully toilet trained and therefore I have some sort of routine too. Wishful thinking. Right off for my choc ice and a watch of Lost while dd1 is still asleep.

Hi Lippy - X posted. I could only express when dd1 was feeding on the other boob. I have been putting it off this time as it was a bit of a palaver but should get started. Any hints gratefully received.

OP posts:
MrsWednesday · 25/08/2005 14:05

I've done a bit of expressing for ds2. I usually do it in the morning or whenever one boob feels full. My only tip would be to try not to concentrate too hard - I find if I read a magazine, doing quick, short pumps for a couple of minutes the let-down kicks in quite easily so I get more milk. If I stress about it or try and do it in a rush I hardly get any. Hope that makes sense.

Bad night here, ds2 was awake for ages. By 4am I'd had enough, woke DH up and shouted at him that I couldn't cope then stropped off! Have decided to put DS2 in his own room tonight, as I think I'm reacting to every little whimper, probably waking him up properly by fussing around with dummies etc and never giving him the chance to settle himself back to sleep. We'll see if it works. How many Junie babies are already in their own rooms? DH has also offered to do one feed a night so I can get a bit more rest.

I'll enter DS2 into the high wee and long wee events at the baby olympics - he can wee in his own ears and eyes quite easily and can do a beautiful wee fountain. In fact he's done so many I am having to get someone in next week to clean the carpets (it smells like a public urinal at the moment).

Lua · 25/08/2005 15:04

Hi there!
Wellcome back Charley and L---y!
Sorry to hear about some of yours bad nights. DS did woke up a bit more also. When I think we had the night sleep cracked, he decide to wake up again! The worst part is that I keep having not enough milk for a few days when he wakes up, and waking up engorged the next day when he decide to sleep !

I was a nerve wreck today. I had my practical driving test today and was sure I was going to hit a lamp post, so stressed I was! But.... I passed YEY ! I am so relived! The guy doing the test gave me ear full for being hesitant in crosses where I had the right of way, and made me promisse I won't do that anymore... I wanted to laugh... believe me I do not drive that slowly usually... but just kept a demured look...

re: expressing... I have been expressing everytime I am too full and have not had any problems. My top tip though iss get a nice pump! I bought the isis avent this time around and it is sooo much better than the ones I had before. I don't know if the same pump is best for all, but I do know that some are torture, and some are really easy! My problem though is that DS is not taking much EBM , so I'm still not managing to get away from him for too long...

Coop, I am jealous of your chocolate ice cream - maybe will have to go out and get some to celebrate!
