Afternoon ladies

Not much to say but just had to post to say HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Mrs W at your ds must have been the day for little boys to be playing, coz after my ds's marathon bath session he sat on the sofa legs akimbo and kept laughing...when I looked over he was touching a rather large (for him) looking winky and when I asked him what he was doing he said 'it tickles mummy and feels nice' well what can you say to that? I just and said 'hmmmm best stop now too much tickling's bad for you' ??!!?? really gonna have to learn how to deal with this properly - maybe post a new thread for advice

Bubb - sorry can't answer your question I've just had the odd day here or there with breakthough periods as I started the pill again and not due for a 'period' till next week. And Oscar is definitely laughing - Amber is too and it's just fab unfortunately it's mostly at daddy so I've now lost my daughter's along with my son's affections to my dh!

MrsWednesday · 20/08/2005 12:54

I'd be interested to know what to do in this sort of situation Tea, as I'm not sure what the etiquette is. Bless him, at one point DS1 turned to me and said in a frustrated voice 'I want to eat my willy mummy'. I just smiled and ignored him (then rushed off to text DH who thought it highly amusing). He didn't succeed by the way, but I'm not sure he'll give up trying just yet

Thanks for starting a new thread Coop.

tribpot · 20/08/2005 16:32

Afternoon ladies, still laughing at MrsW and tea's dses, what delights we first-time mothers of sons have to come

Mogwai, I think your water retention should probably have gone by now, normally takes about a week or so I thought.

Bubb, I'm glad I'm not the only one not putting ds down on his tummy for any length of time - must be even more frustrating for Oscar if he's still in plaster, or he is out now?

Just awaiting the arrival of the MIL. Toby has been grumpy and awake all day, dh has finally got him off to sleep so now we just have to prevent her from trying to wake him up again ...

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend!

Hi everybody!
LOL at tea and MrsW sons! Can't wait to get to this point with DS...not. I must say though... DD has been discovering her bits lately.... The other night she informed me that she "had a little willy inside there"..... So mothers of DDs may partake...

Thanks for all the comments on playing! We do about the same as everybody else then. Is Gina doing my head in! Coop, this is your fault ! But she says two hours awake... and I am thinking, what does he do for all this time? He does get bored! How often you reckon your babys stay awake in between naps? Mine don't seem to go much past 1.5 hours, and he gets very unhappy...

He also seems to need to feed every two hours still!!! anyone else feeding this often??? He is a whopping 15 lbs and I have no problems expressing, so assume I have loads of milk. Yet, he feeds 5-10 minutes in one breast and quits. No matter how much I insist he takes in more. I am getting a bit fed up of nursing so often... anyone has any tips on how to increasethe time between feedings?

According with "what to expect.." babies need just a few minutes on their tummy. Is mostly to help develop their coordination and muscles. I think that's how they discover to roll, but don't quote me on that!

Hope you are all enjoying a beautiful weekend

redheadmum · 20/08/2005 17:43

the tummy time is very short Lynny fear not, ds actually doesn't mind it too much but I remember dd hating it and I did exactly what you did and turn her back over.

yes, I'm still feeding loads too Lua - every 2 hours at the mo (exhausting). My ds is up around 1-2 hours depending on how he feels...I don't try to keep him up if he's tired etc just too difficult!!

have you tried giving a 2nd breast? i read somewhere that babies can take a feed in 5 mins, so maybe giving more feed will help. I 've been trying to offer the 2nd breast in the hope that this will do the trick....

Cooperoo · 20/08/2005 17:45

Lua - Your DS is doing what my dd is and I know I have enough milk etc too. Sorry to inflict Gina. I have to say I feel happier without her .
My dd said she had a poo there while investigating her bits . I think your dd is much closer with a willy .
Lynny - Hope you are having a better time of things with Jessica.
Tea - dd2 settles much better with anyone apart from me. I am just the milky bar and not good for much else alot of the time.
Trib - Hope all OK with the MIL.
Off to order some new tops from Next. I have to finally admit that the existing vest tops that I have been wearing non stop for two years really are very faded and stretched and past it. Theyare too bad to even give to charity and so will be going in the BIN .

hi everyone from sweaty Berlin - too hot and sticky and oppressive for me today, and I think for ds too.
re. playing - I sit with him, talk to him, sing, tickle his tummy, run with my fingers up his body (and he grabs my hand ), show him things, give him toys to grab, have 'conversations' with him (i.e. imitate the noises he makes). dh's speciality is sitting him on his legs and playing with his feet.
Yup Lua, 2 hours is a pretty average feeding interval for us. At night too... My idea is that the intervals will lengthen by themselves when he's ready.
redhead and Lua, we have the opposite situation... ds is very wakeful, will generally only sleep during the day if he's in the Baby Björn or (if we're extremely lucky) the pram. He has an evening sleep phase and then wakes every 1-3 hours until 8am or so (sometimes only long enough to have boob shoved in mouth and have a few sucks). As he usually doesn't cry too much and if he does will calm down in our arms or at the breast, I'm not too worried.

lummox · 20/08/2005 18:18

Hi all,

Felt I just had to post on the new thread. Have been lurking big time, but whenever I try to post something seems to distract my attention.

Good to read what everyone else is doing in playtime. Pretty much the same here except when I'm feeling very energetic when we have quality Beach Boys time invovling me dancing like an idiot and ds looking up at me from the floor.

Sometimes he seems to bop a bit too, but mostly he doesn't seem as advanced as a lot of your little people - hasn't played with his feet yet and no laughing (but lots of gummy smiling). He has discovered his hands and started batting at toys though.

Sleep is also getting better - 7 and three quarter hours last night. We felt really groggy when he did wake up, though .

Hello to all the new folk. Happy wishes to all.

Cooperoo · 20/08/2005 19:08

Hi Lummox
DD is no where near her feet yet . She hasn't even found her other hand yet, although she does bat at toys a bit.
Glad you are well.

Hi Bero and lummox! Good to hear again from you!
Lol at playing with the feet! I think bero, meant that her DH played with baby feet....
We are in for a "good" night, I can tell. DS just scream his head off for the past hour! He hasn't done that for a long time! Maybe this is a bit of a growth spurt or something...

Bero, my hope was also that he would increase time btw feedings on his own, but he is almost 3 months, and I'm getting a bit impatient.... I keep thinking tat it is a self reinforcing problem at this point. I.e. if he feeds every two hours, he never gets a "whole" feed in... I searched some og the archives and found one good suggestion of trying hard to distract an extra 15 min. every time to see if I manage to stretch... Will report later if it did the trick!
nighthy, nighty everyone!

lummox · 20/08/2005 20:48

doh - just re-read Berolina's post.

can only blame sleep-deprivation [being too quick to think other people's children are more advanced emoticon]

hi Coop and Lua. ds still feeding every two hours or so in the day and is twelve and a half weeks now. Think part of it is habit and am v grateful that he is sleeping longer and longer at night. I have tried distracting him to go longer but it doesn't really seem to work. Guess he's still pretty small and feeding often does seem to make for a quiet life.

mogwai · 20/08/2005 21:16

yeah tribpot - I thought it should have gone, too. DH was insinuating it was fat, he said "if it's water, your legs will pit when I do this....." and they did indeed pit! Will mention it to the HV when I go along next.

Gave the little one some tummy time today. She grunts so much and tries to eat the playmat, I too flip her over after a few minutes, she doesn't seem to like it.

DH working nights. This means I am awake day and night, which is pretty tough. Sleep deprivation.....when will she sleep through? We have a bottle of champagne we are saving for the event (unless England win the ashes, in which case, that will set the cork popping) . DH was one of the 20,000 locked out of Old Trafford last monday. I picked him up at the train station, he looked like a little boy lost listening to Test Match Special on his little radio

I know exactly what you mean KVG - my dd was awake on and off all night, I was ready to throw her out of the window at 5.30am today until I found her smiling up at me in her cot.

Little bugger!

Good to see you again Lummox. And I was wondering where you'd been KVG.

I read somewhere that babies learn to smile just at the point you think you can't take the sleep deprivation any more

DS2 doesn't feed for much longer than about 10 minutes day or night, and is going about 3 hours between feeds now, apart from between 5-8 where he crams in three or four. I had one 7-hour stint the other night which was brilliant but rare. It's reassuring to read others are doing the same...am very of some of the babies on here

KVG are you still managing to read lots of books? Have finally cracked the art of reading whilst breastfeeding so I reckon I might soon finish the book I started 6 weeks ago. Pink, you're doing impressively reading on the reading front (as well as everything else). Will be starting Harry Potter as soon as I get this one out of the way.

Right, off to bed with my book (DH is out boozing tonight).

mogwai · 20/08/2005 22:41

yeah, he was on nights, and she had me up at 11.30, 2.30, 5.30 and 7am.

Then he comes in, looking like the wounded soldier cos he only got 3 hours kip, so I send him to bed and soldier on myself.

He did get up at 2.30 and do all of the ironing though , shame I couldn't get to sleep at that point. I'm gonna get one of those fetching eye masks designed to wear on planes and go to bed looking a right prima donna!!!!

bubbaloo · 21/08/2005 08:43

welcome back KVG and Lummox.

ds is bottle fed and usually goes about 4 hours between each one.he has bottles at 7am,11am,2.30pm,6pm and the last one between 10-10.30,which we normally have to wake him up for.he has about 7oz in each bottle and normally drains them dry!
he also sleeps between feeds probably for about an hour or so,depending on where we are and what we're doing.

he went to his first birthday party yesterday and even got a goody bag, although i ate the cake of course.

is anyone else using sleeping bags? i put ds in one on friday for the first time and had to laugh-he looked like he was wearing a dress.he didnt like it at first,as it restricted his legs a bit but after 5 mins or so,he was fine and slept in it again last night.

he is also finding his hands and has them constantly in his mouth.he also pulls his dummy out and throws it when he's had enough.

yes trib-ds still has the plasters on,but they will be coming off tomorrow,so he can have his bath and they're not being re-plastered till weds,so he'll have a whole 2 days without them.we have to go to another hospital on tuesday though,so ds can be measured for his little boots that he's got to wear.shame as he's going to have to sleep in them too.

hope everyone's having a nice weekend.

katzguk · 21/08/2005 08:46

morning all

back from holiday and have tried to catch up but given up. can someone summarise the last week for me?

bubbaloo · 21/08/2005 09:01

hope you had a nice holiday katz

katzguk · 21/08/2005 09:06

brill holiday.

uncle and auntie very taken with their nieces so lots of rest for me and dh. grandma and grandad very exciting too!!

lots of sandcastles building, sea paddling and generally holiday type activities!

Scraggyaggy · 21/08/2005 10:45

Morning everyone!

I went to a car-boot sale yesterday and got one of those baby gyms with a blow-up ring in the middle for £10! Am so chuffed! DD likes it too... I think!

We also went swimming, which was DD's 4th time, and I think she's getting the hang of it. She loves the attention that all the children give her! I have to put her in a swim nappy, inside a full swimsuit with integral nappy as she is so small!!

Lynny - My health visitor isn't particularly helpful either. She's a sit-on-the-fence non-committal type who tells me to refer to books or speak to the doctor etc. To be honest, I don't really bother with her any more, I tend to rely on the general concensus views given by other people, like friends or MNers. Frustrating...

MrsW - I have a cleaner too....

Well, it's hot, hot, hot here today in sunny Wales so we're off to enjoy it while we can. Have a good day! x

Cooperoo · 21/08/2005 13:28

Hello all
I have a cleaner too. It is the VERY best thing about living out here and the thing I will miss the most without a doubt. She is wonderful and even hangs my washing out and gets it in if there is some in the machine (and I generally make sure there is lol).
DH had a triathalon race this am and was a bit useless yesterday too so i don't feel like I have had much time off this weekend. DD took over an hour to settle last night too and at one point dh actually asked if I was going to be much longer . I was not amused but he maintains that he didn't mean it how it sounded as he was half asleep. OK for some. I pointed out today that he has had to get up for her once in 8 and a half weeks which is something when she is up every 1-3 hours and he is being wonderful with both dd's this afternoon . He is tired too as he is training a lot and trying to do it early mornings or when dd's are in bed so that he is not leaving me alone. Prob is he is then so tired that his input becomes minimal again. Actually I am probably not being very fair but I know we all feel this way sometimes. It could be alot worse.
Anyone heard from Megi .
Treid dd in pants today and she had an accident having been 100% releiable for three days so perhaps need to wait a bit longer.
Glad you had a good hol Kat. Can't do a summary sorry, brain not quite up to it.
Very impressed with your swimming Scraggy. How old is your dd now?
Bubb - Sounds like you have a good routine sorted there. Glad your lo will have a break from his plaster. How long will he have to wear the boots for? Hope all goes well.
KVG - DD thrashes around like you described sometimes. It usually seems to be when she needs to get to sleep rather than feed, but she wants the comfort of the feed and seems to get frustrated with it all. I tend to take her off and walk around a bit. Terrible habits to start but it works for us at the mo. My dd seems to only feed for 10 mins too but I feel part of this is my fault for rushing her as I inevitably want to get on with something. I am trying to read a book when she feeds but the one at the mo is too heavy to hold lol. I will have to start another lighter one I think. I might try to stretch the feeds out too. Let me know how you get on Lua.
All for now as I am running out of steam.
