It appears most people have the view that all parties are pretty much the same and lets face it we don?t really trust any of them that much.

However there does seem to be an overriding difference between the three parties that stands out a mile and that has a huge impact on us all i.e. it appears that only the Conservatives believes that we should have freedom and that the state should not control our lives, for example:

  1. That the state should not take more and more of our hard earned money and decide how it is spent (and very often spend it far less efficiently than us)
  2. That the state should not be allowed to tell us what we can or cannot do every minute of the day (and then ironically not deal very well with crime).
  3. That the state should not tie us all up in ever increasing red tape and legislation whether you are a business, a teacher, a medical professional, a Police officer etc. etc.
  4. That the state should not take it upon themselves to give away our sovereignty and rights to Europe without asking us first (and lets not forget the many who died in wars fighting for our rights and sovereignty).
  5. The list goes on and on.

If the above is important to us it appears that the Conservatives are the only choice.
We know what Labour are about in terms of the state (we have seen it in practice for 13 years) and it looks like the Liberals are no different (just hopefully a lot nicer, cleaner and charming about it). PS I am not a troll btw just in case you were wondering

and before labour, we saw what the Tories did to it for 18? or so. (is that right?)

No thanks to that.

omnishambles · 27/04/2010 18:46

Am seriously considering hiding the politics section. This is irritating me now...but before I do:

  1. I actually spend my money very inefficiently - I think the govt probably do better. 2)[has a look round] nope I havent got GB in the corner telling me to calm down and stop shouting at the dcs. Shame. And crime is actually down is it not - apart from rape. 3)Sigh. 4)They haven't given away our sovereignty tho have they now are we in the euro. Dont bring the war into it - havent you heard we're all supposed to be over it. 5)Thats not a very good end to a list.

I dont know why people bother doing this - it doesnt actually work does it because we just get annoyed at MN being invaded by people who think we're stupid and want to lecture us.

grr

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 27/04/2010 18:48

I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than vote Tory, so Mr or Mrs Activist you may think you've chosen a very MN name, but you are a little transparent.

omnishambles · 27/04/2010 18:49

I meant 'nor are we in the euro' obv - got so irritated that I forgot to type properly...another reason to be grr.

Disenchanted3 · 27/04/2010 18:50

I will never vote Tory,

Do you really think that people who have decided to vote labour/lib dem will read your post and change their minds?

wingandprayer · 27/04/2010 18:56

I will be voting Tory but I find your post so very annoying it almost convinces me not to.

Utter, utter ill informed dogma.

BelleDameSansMerci · 27/04/2010 18:57

I sincerely hope everyone who is monentarily charmed by Nick Clegg comes to their senses and votes Labour. As for the Conservatives? Nah, never, never, never.

MegSophandEmma · 27/04/2010 18:58

No tory vote from me.

Sorry, you haven't convinced me.

No 5 on your list was a particularly weak point.

D- Must try harder.

Disenchanted3 · 27/04/2010 19:00

agree with belle

It's probably a Lib Dem or Labour activist. Reverse psychology and all that.

LakeDistrictLardArse · 27/04/2010 19:06

said 'Lib Dem or Labour Activist'??? Really???? Absolutely not!!!

"If the above is important to us it appears that the Conservatives are the only choice."

If that's truly the case we're fucked!

You must have a short memory OP. Or are you very young. Some of us remember Thatcher.

LynetteScavo · 27/04/2010 19:09

I think you are on ot something said!

LakeDistrictLardArse · 27/04/2010 19:10

I'm old enough to remember how Labour has messed this country up with red tape, nanny state mentality and the stifling of enterprise, that's all!

elliemental · 27/04/2010 19:13

I was born in 1970 in the north of england and i saw the effects of Thatcher's Britain first hand. No way will I ever vote Tory again...

LakeDistrictLardArse · 27/04/2010 19:19

Fliight Ha!!! I wish!!! God I am getting slaughtered here!!!

OP posts:
Fliight · 27/04/2010 19:23

Look LDLA are you actually new here or have you been on before? If you are a regular then out yourself and we'll all be much nicer!
If you're not, frankly this was never going to go well...we are a forum for parents not some election focus group and we don't appreciate being blasted with begging for votes or mad propaganda.

I hope that helps.

elliemental · 27/04/2010 19:23

oh no love, you're not getting slaughtered. Why, no-one has even sworn at you yet.
But we are mostly intelligent enough to make our own minds up over who to vote for. And there have been rather a lot of patronising infiltrators telling us what we should think.

BelleDameSansMerci · 27/04/2010 19:24

Do, please, look into the truth about Thatcher's Britain...

See how the economy was propped up with revenue from North Sea Oil/Gas; despair at the treatment of ordinary people; look at how the consumer society championed by Thatcher and co led us to our current economic/credit crisis; marvel at the closure of hospitals specifically for the mentally unwell; and then laugh your socks off at the concept of Care In The Community until you see that this is very similar to some of Cameron's policies. Enjoy!
