It appears most people have the view that all parties are pretty much the same and lets face it we don?t really trust any of them that much.

However there does seem to be an overriding difference between the three parties that stands out a mile and that has a huge impact on us all i.e. it appears that only the Conservatives believes that we should have freedom and that the state should not control our lives, for example:

  1. That the state should not take more and more of our hard earned money and decide how it is spent (and very often spend it far less efficiently than us)
  2. That the state should not be allowed to tell us what we can or cannot do every minute of the day (and then ironically not deal very well with crime).
  3. That the state should not tie us all up in ever increasing red tape and legislation whether you are a business, a teacher, a medical professional, a Police officer etc. etc.
  4. That the state should not take it upon themselves to give away our sovereignty and rights to Europe without asking us first (and lets not forget the many who died in wars fighting for our rights and sovereignty).
  5. The list goes on and on.

If the above is important to us it appears that the Conservatives are the only choice.
We know what Labour are about in terms of the state (we have seen it in practice for 13 years) and it looks like the Liberals are no different (just hopefully a lot nicer, cleaner and charming about it). PS I am not a troll btw just in case you were wondering

'Can't anyone take a joke on here??'

Seems like you can dish it out, but you can't take it.

What a fine representation of the party you support you are.

The saying, 'Stay out of the kitchen . . . ' springs to mind.

OrmRenewed · 28/04/2010 11:27

The irony of that struck me too slug.

PinkFuschia · 28/04/2010 11:32

"But then, the things that seem to be important to you just aren't to me - I want to pay more tax for the benefit of others, I am comfortable with state intervention for our common good, where I live teachers (I am one) are not bound up in red tape even thought the Scottish govt is much more left wing than in England, I am up for more integration into Europe and my list also goes on and on - in a totally non-tory way."

weegiemum I'm a fairly new poster myself on MN, but having read your above comment posted last night can I just say I agree with every word and can I join your gang, please?

Trebuchet · 28/04/2010 11:39

Oi Mumof3boys, Stevie was juat explaining to a "Newbie" what this site is for in a friendly manner. Mind yours.

OrmRenewed · 28/04/2010 11:39

Me too pink!

I don't like nature (or the market) red in tooth and claw.

posieparker · 28/04/2010 11:49

So the flaming you're getting is because of your very naive OP and your melodramatic title.

So Thatcher destroyed this country and was very damaging to women....she made this country the greedy, self serving, egocentric place it is today. She took rights away and gave little back in return. I am not a millionaire and so Conservatives will never get my vote.

Labour have taken up the Tory baton and let this country slip even further.

For me Liberal Democrat, whilst untested, are the only option. I have reservations about their ability to govern like who would do it? But we have plenty of experienced civil servants who can step in!!

ahundredtimes · 28/04/2010 12:03

I'm a bit worried about the level of Conservative debate on MN tbh.

This is a mainstream party - there must be lots of Conservative voting posters, who aren't really having their say. I don't know why?

This OP is a bit paranoid and filled with a kind of tabloideze paranoia. This thread seems even barmier, and full of apparently self-confessed trolls.

I'm just wondering where the sensible, normal conservatives are - and why they're not really seeming to have their say on MN? Or maybe I'm just missing it?

Oh? I couldn't work it out at all, maybe she was.

I'm just as then

Lutyens · 28/04/2010 12:07

ahundredtimes, I thought that too. The only sensible Conservative voter I can confidently pick out is atlantis. I may not agree with her views, but she manages to defend the Tories' policies without going all melodramatic and paranoid.

ahundredtimes · 28/04/2010 12:11

Yes, I agree re Atlantis. And also there are a couple of long-standing MNers who say they vote conservative too - perfectly reasonably - it's not that odd a thing to do after all.

Just perhaps they don't want to do threads or whatever? Which is fair enough.

Hmm. See, I think I'm discussing as a normal person, but I just notice that it's either fairly centrel ground normal people or extremely right wing people, and none on the centre right. Perhaps I need to get out of the Politics section for a bit - maybe not so many normal people here.

jackstarbright · 28/04/2010 12:29

Well I'm planning to vote Tory (I hope I'm usually sensible). The inheritance tax debate included some well argued right and left wing views. I started a (semi joking) dig at Vince Cable thread. I lost it a bit on the more recent free schools debate but that's because I was a bit bored with the whole discussion.

MN tends to be a bit left of centre - so I guess some long standing right of centre MNeter's would rather not post than risk offending?

Which tends to leave that space to politrolls!!

Hullygully · 28/04/2010 12:33

You is a bit fick, innit.

Hullygully · 28/04/2010 12:33

I mean the OP.

ahundredtimes · 28/04/2010 12:34

Oh I see Jack, yes. That's not good though is it, for anyone, if normal MNers feel they can't post what they think.

I hadn't really noticed a left leaning bias before now.

Ripeberry · 28/04/2010 12:34

As long as people go out and VOTE! Apathy is our biggest enemy at the moment. Hate it when people waste their vote, even if they vote for Screaming Lord Sutch AKA the BNP

Hullygully · 28/04/2010 12:34

I'm voting tory because they have got nice haircuts and speak properly.

ahundredtimes · 28/04/2010 12:36

Hully

weegiemum · 28/04/2010 12:36

I'm not voting tory cos I don't think Call Me Dave is actually real (no matter what Riven says) - he's actually a puppet made out of balloons and plasticine.

Ripeberry · 28/04/2010 12:36

What ho Jeeves!

Hullygully · 28/04/2010 12:38

You can peel Dave away and he is cyber underneath! (I have a friend that has seen this done in the loo at the House). But at least he speaks nicely and has a pretty wife. He is a fine representative of all that is best about Albion.

Hullygully · 28/04/2010 12:39

And that sweet little Georgie Osbourne. Couldn't you just chuck him under his little chin? Oh no, he hasn't got one.

posieparker · 28/04/2010 12:39

As intelligent[I hope] women(mainly) we are all of the age that remembers Thatcher and I think that is why most of us would rather stick pins in our eyes than vote Tory. My household earns too much but not enough to benefit from any party, I imagine this is similar for most, and so we look at the issues that affect the most needy. I just assume that if you vote Tory it is about how it helps you directly, which ironically is Tory Tory Tory all the way.
