You had a chance to put a stop to the dodgy little lying, pathetic twat and you blew it.

Now we have to listen to his bollocks and hate inducing garbage for longer.

9,000 people voted for a bin rather than this swindler.

He can’t even bring himself to come to your town to accept the vote. He is laughing at you.

Real “man of the people’ - why can’t you see that he doesn’t give a crap about you or your problems?

Oh well at least the investigation into the £5mill can resume.

What a fucking waste of time and money. Disgusting. Disappointed in you guys. 🙈

He can be investigated now.

Has he has a month to hide his money and income streams? I hope there's a shit hot group of accountants and digital investigators onto it.

🤔

Because Farage would have then used the fact that he won Clacton to shut up those other parties when they wanted his 5 mill bribe investigated. 'The people disagree with you'. We know that was exactly his plan, he was pretty open about it.

But how can the people of Clacton validate his behaviour before it has been properly investigated?

If irregularities are found and there's another bye-election, then that can be a referendum on whether Nigel being bought and paid for is something the public are concerned about. This bye-election was just a stunt, using the people of Clacton and the other parties for his own ends. It's unsurprising that the other parties didn't want to validate it and left him to argue with a man with a bin on his head.

Agreed. Very well said.

God help us all if Farage becomes PM! 😬

I feel the same way about the people of Makersfield.

He won't. The people of Clacton may have chosen him, but the country as a whole won't.

The investigation has now been reopened. Bring it on!!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · Today 09:42

It would be good if the mainstream parties could get through to the electorate that immigration is not actually the worst problem facing the UK. Yes, it's a problem that needs to be fixed, but so are the NHS, social care, defence, the criminal justice system, the environment, cost of living and housing.

sittingonabeach · Today 09:42

Do you think he would bother to turn up if he was PM?

Agree that people really don't like democracy when it doesn't reflect their own views and wishes.

Is Farage a corrupt twat? Well, yes, but...

They're not really voting for him as a person, they're voting for him as a protest to what is happening to Clacton and has been happening for a long time.

They are using democracy to try and change what they don't like - which is unfettered immigration, legal and illegal.

Whether anyone can actually change ongoing immigration is debatable, but it is least clear that it is against the will of many people.

Why do Clacton feel this way? Likely because they are living somewhere that has been left to rot, that lacks investment - and they think that is because the money is being used for the wrong thing.

Edited

If Clacton was left to rot it happened under a succession of Conservative and UKIP MPs.

So here they are voting again for Reform - a rag, tag and bobtail made up entirely of ex Tory and UKIP.

noblegiraffe · Today 09:43

Binnyforthewin · Today 09:35

I think this is a good example of people not needing to win to get the outcome they want. Most Reform voters want lower immigration. Labour are highly unlikely to have taken steps like stopping family reunification without the pressure from these voters. If Labour achieves the reduce immigration levels it is win win. It wasn't take long ago that Labour's view was that there should be freedom of movement and allowing mass immigration from Eastern Europe.

Remember Ed Miliband's Ed Stone in 2015? What is point 4 on his list of pledges? Or Rishi's 'Stop the Boats'? Or the Rwanda plan?

I wish Burnham would take note of this. Starmer didn’t, and nor did the Tories before him.

The fact is, a vast number of voters just want immigration to stop. Immigration is seen by many as the cause of all our problems - the state of the NHS, the pressure on housing, overcrowded schools, overflowing prisons, cost of living etc.

It doesn’t matter if you agree with this assessment or not. It’s what a lot of people think. And these people believe that Farage and Reform are the only party that will make it harder for non-UK nationals to come into the UK, and will “stop the boats”.

We are sleep-walking into a Reform government. And if Labour don’t address this issue, Farage will be at Number 10 after the next election, which will be utterly catastrophic.

TheSmallAssassin · Today 09:44

Dunnocantthinkofone · Today 09:10

Actually I disagree. While Farage pulled a stunt, I personally believe our government and official opposition should be compelled to stand in every seat

I don't think we should be compelling people to do anything, really.

There's no way on earth that the right wing media or the people funding Farage will EVER let that happen.

Monty36 · Today 09:44

sittingonabeach · Today 09:42

Do you think he would bother to turn up if he was PM?

He would hate the idea of being a PM. I suspect if Reform ever did look as if they were going to win he would hand the leadership to Nadeem Zahawi.
He was the top Tory defector not given a ‘ job’ in his proposed cabinet.

sally037 · Today 09:49

These people will tolerate perhaps one of the least active MP for his constituents in UK history, with endless financial controversies, shady donors, Russian links and criminal friends because they just love all the covert racism, the misogyny, the homophobia, the climate change denial, and the vaccine scepticism. They love it and that’s why love him.

coachinghelp · Today 09:51

It wasn't a real by-election. It was a silly stunt of Nigel's to hog the news agenda and (he thought) get out of the parliamentary inquiry into him receiving a £5m "gift" from a convicted fraudster. He was apparently furious when he realised he'd been badly advised and that the parliamentary inquiry will restart tomorrow. And he might well lose his seat in the real by-election that will be triggered by parliamentary sanctions if he's broken the rules.

IlikethoseBalenciagas · Today 09:51

I'd be interested to know if anyone who has voted for Farage has contacted him as their MP over the last year?
Has he been in the local papers opening a new hospital unit, business district, environmental project? Meeting school heads? Done anything at all to help those poor people living in Jaywick?

They have been constantly failed by the mainstream parties in the area for decades. The proof is easy to see if they hadn't been failed Clacton would be a nice seaside resort, not a shithole.

Protest vote against what exactly?

I‘m not a Clacton resident but I would hazard a guess it’s about unregulated, unsustainable immigration from groups that appear to be young and male. And probably from cultures that don’t do women any favours.

The landscape of many towns and cities is changing. Lots of people, and ordinary reasonable non-bigoted people are now sick of it. And by ‘it’ I mean the apparent intransigence of anyone in power doing a single thing about it. If they can’t do anything - at least be honest with the British public. But they lie. They say they’re doing A,B and C, but nothing changes.

We absolutely need immigration, we do. But let’s have some good old school British law and order and regulation about it. Not chaos. Not unskilled flotsam and worse, damaged, dangerous men who bring nothing to this country.

Happyjoe · Today 09:54

Politics in this country went to shit some years ago, this is just a continuation.
What a shame.

Dontcallmescarface · Today 09:57

Clacton ensured that the investigation was re-opened so, in that context, they played a blinder. I wonder what Farage will come up with next in order to try to stop it.

BoredZelda · Today 09:57

My politics sit left of centre but I can clearly see the harm being done by this incessant scolding of people who have a different view.

Voting and recent events have CLEARLY shown that a great many, a majority of British people want illegal immigration stopped and legal immigration more strictly controlled.

Everyone needs to listen.

People voting for Farage have as much right to a vote and an opinion as anyone else and if this scolding by people who see themselves as "betters" and Remain/Restore as "a basket of deplorables" need to take a long hard look at themselves and their own bigotries.

“Left of centre?” pull the other one.

If people wanted illegal immigration stopped, why are they focussing on boats (a tiny percentage of immigrants - most of whom will be granted asylum after a rigorous process) and not on the real cause of the “illegal” numbers which are in visa overstays? Legal immigration is strictly controlled, what more do you want than our system has?

Immigration has consistently been shown to be a net benefit to the economy. Do you really want less immigration just so our country has fewer non white people?

They must be turning a blind eye to his support for blood sports.

... and to tackle this effectively we need a functioning criminal justice system as well as immigration enforcement.

Personally I think the major parties have treated the people of Clacton with contempt due to shameful cowardice.

Why did Labour/Conservatives not stand and run a great campaign offering locals real choice? Fear of the optics of loosing?

So the people of Clactons MP and their right to political choice was less important to the government and shadow than the optics of loss. And they wanted them to vote for a person with no political experience who is a national joke, a man dressed as a bin? As their MP? Ha bloody ha, hilarious - it's only fucking Clapham eh? Who gives a fuck Clacton!

It really is fucking disgusting OP, but Farage is not the only one with his arse on show.

Edited

As opposed to Farage who is never there - not even for this vote?

They didn’t do anything to the people of Clacton, they just refused to engage in Farage’s mind games.
