What will life be like under Reform?

Easipeelerie · 27/09/2025 09:05

I have accepted the likelihood of the next government being Reform. I don’t think the government after that will necessarily be Reform. But in the 4 Reform years, what do people think life will be like for the different groups in our country? Will we see very immediate changes?

Dh would lose his job - council employee but they don’t value his role which involves being a press officer. They’re not speaking to the media where they are in power.

i work in the nhs so it terrifies me.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/09/2025 09:09

every SEN provision removed
the far right emboldened so racist attacks up 50% +
marches to save the nhs that get us no where
even higher inflation

Catsknowbest · 27/09/2025 09:09

I hope we never find out.

TheBafflingIsGenerallyComplete · 27/09/2025 09:10

Fucking terrible.

R0ckandHardPlace · 27/09/2025 09:15

Yes, the rich will become even richer and the rest of us will be significantly worse off. None of us will have any rights. We’ll have no council services, NHS and if you’re not one of the rich, tough tit. Didn’t he say he’d use the military to police the streets, so that’ll be nice. Men will be allowed to rape their wives again and we won’t be allowed to have a termination.

I imagine it will be like victorian Britain with hints of the Gestapo. No work, no social support, and everyone living in fear of being grassed up by their neighbours if they can afford an extra turnip.

Moochingallday · 27/09/2025 09:16

My older teens are already talking about leaving the UK - they can't see a future here and question why we can. They have seen attitudes and social behaviours change for the worst and costs increase throughout their childhood.

Though I'm not sure it's necessary any better in other countries the direction some are going.

Bookblanketteaandsympathy · 27/09/2025 09:16

I'm planning to be totally screwed, I'm female, disabled (ill health retirement so deemed never able to work again). My dc will be adults by the point of a reform government but potentially not independent. I'm planning on downsizing (hopefully be able to get a one bedroom flat) to clear my mortgage and worse case scenario I'll have £1000 pension a month to live on.
I have one already adult dc who works in nhs and has health issues plus sen and will probably get reduced support.
I have two younger dc one with health issues who will hopefully be at uni/one apprenticeships hoping they can get to the end of their education before any meaningful changes are brought in.

MousseMousse · 27/09/2025 09:17

The NHS will go and they will usher in US style health insurance, which Farage has been open about for years

Lampzade · 27/09/2025 09:18

They will make a mess of everything but blame ‘illegal’ immigrants

greatvisuals · 27/09/2025 09:21

The world would be constantly laughing at us. They already know Farage is a total buffoon.

sesquipedalian · 27/09/2025 09:22

I think you would find, as with all governments, that their ideas will be tempered once they get into office. No administration can govern without the civil service, and once in government, not only would they find that there are certain things they can’t do, or can only implement slowly, they will also discover that other things are downright impossible. The markets and reality have a sobering effect on most governments! (I’m not a reform voter.) Even at the moment, polls are only predicting an almost majority, so they would have to compromise, but a lot can happen between now and the next election. I think we will end up with some sort of hung parliament, so whoever is in power will have to abandon their more extreme ideas.
(edited for typo)

Echobelly · 27/09/2025 09:24

Life we be embarassingly stupid for many, unsafe for others.

Many of the MPs will be utterly clueless; people who get all their news of X and will believe any old nonsense they're told - Muslim shops refuse to sell poppies! Kids are getting weekly transgender lessons in school! and they'll waste time legislating for non existent problems, thus creating new ones.

I don't think a Reform government will make a full term due to sheer amateurishness. I give it a few weeks before a minister is found accepting an envelope of cash from a Saudi representative or something, and a few months before another one is found to be having an affair with a Russian intelligence operative. It'll be a total farce. Part of me wonders if parts of the media are backing them because they will have a bonanza of scandal stories if they get into government.

The scariest possibility is whether some competently-evil Dominic Cummings type (maybe Dominic Cummings) comes along and tells them how to keep a grip on power, because then we could see interference with democracy.

Letthem01 · 27/09/2025 09:28

Awful! Not sure how they would get enough MPs to enable them to form a Government - that would have to be a huge swing??!

ninjahamster · 27/09/2025 09:30

It will be a disaster. Their policies aren’t properly costed. They will decimate the nhs. The poor will get poorer but the rich will get much richer. They will have to form a cabinet with very naive politicians who have not got experience at high level. The racists will be emboldened.

Echobelly · 27/09/2025 09:33

I think it's very important to tell anyone you know who goes 'Well, they're something different, so it's worth a try' that they are more of exactly the same, only even more corrupt and incompetent. And apparently reminding people that Nige is a millionaire city trader is the top way to turn people off Reform.

I predict they would declare a lot of counterproductive and repressive policies in the name of 'productivity' - they would lower worker rights and make it more like America, where your employer basically owns you and can fire at will. They'd curtail maternity rights as 'too burdensome'.

Butterflybum · 27/09/2025 09:36

Bloody scary at best.

StrongLikeMamma · 27/09/2025 09:37

We need to vote tactically op so this never ever happens!

FakeItUntilIMakeIt · 27/09/2025 09:39

Terrifing!

  1. My son may not be able to go to school (or attend and spend all of his time not learning anything) He is 5 and autistic and has an EHCP. He’s needs are not high enough for special school (no behavioural issues) but he is one of the highest needs children at his existing school. If when/reform get into power he will be 8. I can’t afford private school. If my son cannot got to school then I cannot work.If I cannot work then I am not paying any tax and NI.

  2. Reform hate wfh. I work in a hybrid role which is a good balence for me. If Reform mandated that everyone working in the public sector had to return to the office full time I would have to cut my hours. If I cut my hours I will be paying less tax and NI.

So basically if Reform get it I will probably had to give up work as all SEN support will be stripped away so my son won’t be able to go to school as I will have to home educate him. I will be paying no tax and NI and my family will have to live off benefits.

rainbowstardrops · 27/09/2025 09:42

Shit. That’s what it will be like.

Fizzer5 · 27/09/2025 09:44

Nobody knows if it will happen. So it is alarmist to consider.
No one knows what they will prioritise or how they will apply their policies.
They, Reform UK, have not given us enough to even predict anything.
To change the NHS for instance would take years.
All this OP is doing is trying to scare us into voting Labour.

This is class. It’s like saying “I know they’ve explicitly told us of their intention to kill everyone’s first born child, but that’s going to be a big job so it’s probably not going to happen. You shouldn’t vote for another party just because you believe them”.

But the latest polls show them with an absolute majority. We have to think about the reality of a potential Reform government.
And you have to base those predictions on what they actually say, not how they might temper their policies. Many people didn’t seem to believe that Trump would actually implement Projet 2025 because it was thought too extreme to be realistic but here we are.

PrimeTimeNow · 27/09/2025 09:55

Same as it is now. Continual slide into ever more decline.

Thry talk the talk but they won’t be able to implement anything.

BeHappySloth · 27/09/2025 09:57

It will be shit. And the people who voted for them will not realise that their own choices have contributed to their misery, so they will start looking for people to blame.

Once they have run out of immigrants to target, they will start on the next scapegoat.

clipboardz · 27/09/2025 09:58

We will get even poorer
