What will life be like under Reform?

1000 replies

Easipeelerie · 27/09/2025 09:05

I have accepted the likelihood of the next government being Reform. I don’t think the government after that will necessarily be Reform. But in the 4 Reform years, what do people think life will be like for the different groups in our country? Will we see very immediate changes?

Now we have swung the other way and people seem proud to be scamming benefits and have no desire to work or make money.

What does this even mean? The majority of people who get benefits are pensioners and people in work.

Public service employees will be slashed to more sensible levels and more people will return to the private sector which is what we need.

What are sensible levels of public sector workers?

Sensible levels of public sector workers are the number that operate when the country is financially viable. Public sector workers take from the public purse and of course are necessary. However private sector workers generate the income that our country uses to build, invest and grow.

The majority of people scamming benefits are not pensioners getting their old age pension. The majority of scammers are likely on 'health' benefits for mental health issues. Nobody can scam the state pension. It's pretty set in stone. There seems to be plenty of scope though for getting PIP for the likes for anxiety bollocks.

@MissCalifornia101 well for one the economy is already being impacted by the changing demographics so it will be a while before AI saves us. And I'm sceptical that it will.

@AbsenceOfLoveIsJustAsBad I genuinely do not know but it will absolutely not be Reform who will cause a bigger than Liz Truss market crash because their figures do not add up. It will be Brexit 2.0. The IMF won't bail us out, for one France will be first in line and I'm not sure they can afford both of us!

we need grown up conservations and cross party consensus to have a hope of reversing our decline and it will take years.

yes I agree. France will be first to get bailed out and you are correct there are not enough funds for us both.

So we better stand on our own two feet before Labour bankrupts us.

Sensible levels of public sector workers are the number that operate when the country is financially viable.

But an ageing population means more NHS workers, it's already feeling the strain.

The majority of people scamming benefits are not pensioners getting their old age pension.

I did not mean to imply pensioners were scammers. But the state pension is a big portion of the benefit bill and many younger people who receive benefits work. Scammers who do exist are not the majority.

Is AI going to empty the bins and do social care?

  1. There would be crazy competition for these jobs as millions and millions would be unemployed thanks to ai
  2. AI and robotics are already being used in both waste management and social care, and their role is set to expand rapidly. Robots can sort waste, navigate urban environments, and are being deployed to empty public bins. In social care, AI tools handle documentation, monitor health, provide reminders, and assist with training and daily care tasks. As the technology advances, AI systems will increasingly take over both the physical and administrative aspects of these jobs, leading to a future where many roles in bin collection and social care can be fully automated.

Nowhere is utopia

But Reform says the UK can achieve this!

clipboardz · 27/09/2025 10:42

I just don't even know what to say to this. If you think Reform will fix things then there isn't really anything else to say.

potato08 · 27/09/2025 10:47

It's very clear what will happen...
Exactly what happened in Germany 100 years ago.
The people that vote for deform (the uneducated, the poor, the elderly...) will see the nhs disappear (NF has been clear on this. He's on record he wants a US based health care system), any professional role such as teacher, lecturer, nurse, Dr, dentist, will be vilified (who do they think they are!?), those who are "different" - ethnic minorities, the disabled, the vulnerable, lgbtq for example will be vilified, prevented from holding important jobs.
The welfare state will cease to exist.
They will start to dismantle the constitution (they have been watching the GOP closely..)
It's really all there to see if

  1. You are a student of history 2. You care enough to look

I have a relative who works in the industry. It’s progressing very rapidly, faster than expected.

Same as it is now. Continual slide into ever more decline.

Thry talk the talk but they won’t be able to implement anything.

This but they will blame immigration, or find a new target

3amamama · 27/09/2025 10:49

I really hope this doesn’t happen. I can’t believe enough people will vote that way.

If it does, I would have to seriously consider leaving - would break my heart to move away from ageing parents who I don’t think could be convinced to move, though I would try. However, I want better for my kids than that absolute toxicity, stupidity and hatred.

I think it would be disastrous and dangerous. I really hope labour wise the fuck up soon and manage to start doing something - anything - vaguely impressive.

ruffler45 · 27/09/2025 10:49

As any manifestos, promises, pledges are not legally binding, believe nothing any politicians say...and worry about what they have not said...

PistachioTiramisu · 27/09/2025 10:49

I'm pretty sure that, faced by the ballot box, many people will not be able to grit their teeth and vote Reform. Should that be the case, could I ask what you think might happen? Clearly Labour haven't a single chance of getting in again, so my guess is some kind of Conservative/Liberal coalition (although that doesn't have a good track record when you look at Cameron/Clegg). Alternatively a Conservative/Reform coalition with some of Reform's more, ahem, extreme policies squashed,

Mammyloveswine · 27/09/2025 10:49

Due to our political system will never get in with a majority vote as we use first past the post, they will have the moment and fade away like the BNP

LarkspurLane · 27/09/2025 10:51

Inheritance tax will be abolished to improve life for the wealthy.

They will talk about removing VAT from private school fees (to get votes) but when they get in they won't actually do that as education is in no way a priority.

They will not remove one single illegal immigrant relying only on lying about their success and continuing to use the methods of the previous government.
Being openly racist will be acceptable though, free speech and all that.

Nigel will take a lot of holidays, people within the party will be unhappy with his leadership and will lose their jobs. A whole bunch of MPs will resign/be pushed within the first month as they didn't know what they signed up for.

Everyone else will carry on, being slightly worse off and coming around to the idea of paying for healthcare.

caringcarer · 27/09/2025 10:52

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/09/2025 09:09

every SEN provision removed
the far right emboldened so racist attacks up 50% +
marches to save the nhs that get us no where
even higher inflation

Where do you get that nonsense about SEN? My local council is Reform and since they got in they increase SEN provision. It is actually one of their priorities, to improve SEN provision. They have also been getting the pot holes filled in.

Fizzer5 · 27/09/2025 10:30

@zazazaaar and others talking about Reform making "the rich richer at the expense of the Poor"
Just how do you think this will happen, what methods, what mechanisms are there for this.

Reducing employment rights in favour of businesses rather than employees. Tax breaks for highest earners, doing things like Trump did with tariffs and other announcements meaning the markets with fluctuate and those in the know will make millions. Dodgy governmemnt contracts to mates (see PPE scandal).

Crikeyalmighty · 27/09/2025 10:55

No idea , as we will use our nomad visa ability to leave in advance if it looks very very likely - I don’t want to live somewhere or pay tax where 30 to 50% of population think that Hess great guy

AndStand · 27/09/2025 10:55

R0ckandHardPlace · 27/09/2025 09:15

Yes, the rich will become even richer and the rest of us will be significantly worse off. None of us will have any rights. We’ll have no council services, NHS and if you’re not one of the rich, tough tit. Didn’t he say he’d use the military to police the streets, so that’ll be nice. Men will be allowed to rape their wives again and we won’t be allowed to have a termination.

I imagine it will be like victorian Britain with hints of the Gestapo. No work, no social support, and everyone living in fear of being grassed up by their neighbours if they can afford an extra turnip.

Where do Reform state that men will be legally able to rape their wives? And terminations won't be available? Genuinely interested about this.

Easipeelerie · 27/09/2025 10:57

Fizzer5 · 27/09/2025 09:44

Nobody knows if it will happen. So it is alarmist to consider.
No one knows what they will prioritise or how they will apply their policies.
They, Reform UK, have not given us enough to even predict anything.
To change the NHS for instance would take years.
All this OP is doing is trying to scare us into voting Labour.

I wouldn’t say it’s alarmist if it’s looking very likely.

State pensions cost £138B. PIP is £18.9B. Even if 10% of claimants aren’t genuine (which I think is on the high side), that’s still less than £2B.

Weeding out scammers wouldn’t make a material difference in the grand scheme of the benefits bill.

exactly

crappycrapcrap · 27/09/2025 10:58

With a husband with indefinite leave to remain (who pays masses in tax, works his butt off and has a proper rags to riches experience- I say riches but that’s all relative, just in comparison to where he was) we’re screwed.

My children of mixed ethnicity will be 15 and 17. Who knows what it will mean for them being British born but not British with their dad potentially deported.

I work for local government in child protection so I dread to think. I can’t imagine it will be well funded.

I guess pray you don’t get ill and hope for the best.

What areas do you plan to be a nomad in? Countries with low tax? The developing world?

1457bloom · 27/09/2025 11:00

They can’t be worse than labour.
