Why do people not like Jeremy Corbyn?

I was at a family lunch the other day with my in-laws and they were all slating the man. However, when I asked why my mother in law could only come up with her lives in an ex council house and she doesn't like his suit.

These aren't attributes I particularly care about in politicians (or really in people in general). I much prefer to find out if they are kind, think of others, hard working, honest etc ...

So! To those who dislike and to those who do... What are our thoughts on Jeremy Corbyn?

Judge a man by the company he keeps is the saying.

The man in question keeps very interesting company that appear on various terrorist watchlists.

I do believe he has some kind of saviour complex and thinks he's sticking it to the 'establishment' not realising that those he favours see him as a useful idiot.

I'm always intrigued by his background. His brother Piers is clearly an oddbod too. How did his parents justify sending his kids to a private school and then an elitist grammar and living in a manor house while still being members of the Labour Party. I know there's always some attempt at justification wheeled out in all these contradictory cases of lefties being hypocrites but it never really washes.I suppose his parents set the example.that you can ride two bikes at the same time. That must go for a lot of the Labour Party.

Starmer kicked out of his party many Jews who stood up against Israel's racism against Palestinians, they were the wrong type of Jew apparently. Thousands joined Labour before Starmer now thousands have left.because of Starmer his polices or lack and his support for Isreal's Genocide. Never again means never again for all people.

Why have you copied and pasted your post of three days ago?

I thought I hadn't posted it, I was able to correct a spelling error also.

Corbyn is a big no from me. He lacks patriotism and sees the world through a lens of who is the most oppressed. While he may be ‘principled’ and a decent MP, his career is full of questionable ideas and associations. He was hopeless on Brexit and foolish on nuclear disarmament in a dangerous world. He is weak, naive and poses a serious threat to our countries security. I see him as much as a populist with simple answers to complex problems as Farage but from the other side.

He is the opposite of all you said.

Getting more weapons doesn't make us safe it means more wars you have to keep using the weapons. wars, more weapons. Arms manufacturers glad.

Non proliferation treaty makes more sense.
Welfare not warfare.

You have to care about the oppressed to try make a difference.

He is not weak he is strong to stand by his principals

Starmer went off course on brexit on purpose changed the brexit vote offered.

No. Getting more weapons means that hostile countries like Russia will think twice about attacking us or other NATO members. Ukraine gave up its nuclear arsenal....

‘Devastating testimony. Faultless research. It’s impossible to exaggerate the timeliness of this powerfully written book’ Peter Oborne, journalist and broadcaster
‘The importance of this book cannot be overstated’ Mary Nazzal, barrister and legal activist
We are seeing injustices caused by war and occupation unfold in real-time via social media, and we are speaking out in our millions against these horrors. Yet, from Gaza to Ukraine, the bombs continue to fall. We must understand why this is happening if we are to end it.
Monstrous Anger of the Guns lays bare the dark and deceitful world of the global arms trade, which, often funded in our name, is a business that counts its profits in billions and its losses in human lives. Leading activists and campaigners connect the dots, showing how notions of citizenship, democracy and trust in governments are misguided, and how we can fight back by building mass movements, using direct action and legal justice to end the flow of weapons and the environmental and human devastation they bring.

The activists should send a copy to Putin and Kim Jong. Sounds right up their street.

He doesn’t have the depth to manage international relations that are complicated such as US, Russia, etc. He will always make it about an ideological fantasy (and I’m saying this as a left wing person), and get us in very dangerous situations

Imagine there's no countries. It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for. And no religion, too.

Unfortunately we don't live in an imaginary world.

noblegiraffe · 12/08/2025 09:32

Basic game theory tells you that if everyone else is a dove, being a hawk is an immediate advantage.

He knows a lot about international relations, countries their history, he has travelled extensively. He is well regarded in other countries.

anyolddinosaur · 12/08/2025 09:37

He's not a leader. He lives in a fantasy world so cant be trusted with the economy. I used to think at least he had integrity then realised he didnt. Held my nose and voted Labour when he was leader, because the alternatives were worse. Womens rights are not his to give up, he's a misogynist.

He will split opposition to Reform and maybe let Farage into power, god help us.

That describes me too. Waiters love me in other countries as do hotel owners. That doesn't make me fit to be Prime Minister. Although maybe it does these days..

He had a fully costed Manifesto. Governments are not run like a household budget. We can spend what we like what they choose, which boosts the economy people spending money, not billionaires hiding wealth. Not austerity a political choice not a nessessity.

Tax those very rich billionaires, those very rich to fund essential public services

Trezo · 12/08/2025 11:36

Starmer who are trying to out perform Reform, moving to the right, is what would split the vote not the new party. People already moving away from so called Labour

You’re disregarding the track record of his personality and his batshit ideologies: refusing to commit to defence spending, refusing to stand down when his cabinet resigned, refusing to state his position on Brexit, refusing to countenance that the Kremlin might be responsible for the Salisbury Novichok, hanging out with the IRA, Hamas and Hezbollah. All that, and that’s before we even get to the antimemitism. It’s all here on the thread.

Corbyn is an utter joke.

His personality is caring, decent, a man of peace.
Defence spending? Too much money is spent on weapons already.
Read, The monstrous anger of the guns. Millions dying, arms manufacturers getting richer, more weapons means more wars, means more weapons, more wars, senseless.

The useless MPs who were blairites so wouldn't back a democraticly elected leader.
Another leadership contest and Jeremy Corbyn won even more votes!.

Jeremy knows more than I about Russia and what's involved there.

You have to talk to terrorist groups that's the only way to get peace.

Jeremy Corbyn won a peace prize.

As far as antisemitism is concerned there in his voting record in parliament he always standing up for Jews there is stacks of evidence for that.
The MPs in his party when he was leader used antisemitism to bring him down. It was a scam.
