Will Reform win any votes at the local elections?

Why would you put them in prison?

Seeking asylum is not illegal

Entering the country unlawfully is or should be made to be.

Asylum seekers are not “unlawful”.

That would be an option, to put them directly in a prison. It wouldn't be dumping if they go on their own accord.

What don't you understand about permission? They have left France and are on British soil therefore they can't go back to France without permission from France.

You are delusional.

It would make Labour take them serious and actually do something about the issue.

Just vote Reform then and arrange a 'stop the boats' day trip with your local councillor

The Conservatives tried that with the Bibby Stockholm, wasting a colossal amount of taxpayer money that could have been spent on the NHS.

Yes, do that.

Fluffyholeysocks · 19/04/2025 12:14

Our voting system allows voters to vote for whoever they choose on the ballot paper. No one has to justify their vote or read up on a manifesto - whether you are educated or not everyone has the right to choose who they vote for. Their votes may have been well considered, informed and researched or not. So yes, I do think Reform will get some votes. There is a portion of the electorate to whom Reform appeal just as there is a portion that appeals to the Greens. We all get our say.

I listened to a very interesting analysis from Prof John Curtice who is a gold standard expert in these matters and basically the answer is that Reform will take votes off Labour and the Conservatives but that overall it's the Conservatives who are losing the most votes to Reform and it's not necessarily the case that those votes will translate to seats won.

Labour do badly need to pull their socks up though. They need to stop being so craven over Europe and accept that in a world where the US is no kind of ally, they need to join forces with their nearest powerful economic bloc.

I heard this interview the other day…the prof is usually right on these matters.

What do Labour do now?

They stopped spending money on the Bibby Stockholm and scrapped the Rwanda scheme, both of which were wasting huge amounts of money whilst not deterring boat arrivals. You seem very concerned about boats. Do you live by the sea?

I’d quite like to see them take control of an entire council. The appalling mess they’d make of it should finish them off for good.

This is exactly what I’m thinking. Would love to see them dealing with potholes, school crossing recruitment, bin collections the list goes on……

Tbh they all can make a hash of it - Birmingham City Council have made a particular art of it for years!

I believe the citizens of Clacton are over the moon with the improvements Farage has made.

Your post seems more focussed on how it’s going. It’s still going to be costing Labour a lot surely given numbers going up.

So what would the French do exactly if they arrived there via a boat?

Not accept them and turn the boat around.

Anyway, your thread is about the local elections. I'm very interested to hear of how Reform are going to follow their stellar leader and transform the lives of locals.

They are if they cross unlawfully.

The crossing is irregular, not illegal or unlawful.

The majority of refugees can only claim asylum when on British soil, hence making the dangerous journey across the Channel.

They are allowed to turn the boats around?

Reform will have more money to spend on potholes with less immigration.

Immigrants pay tax, how will Reform have more money to spend?

Cool, so if we're ever invaded again (perhaps Putin's last hurrah?) you don't think we should be allowed to try to escape to another country?

Or is it only non-English people who aren't allowed to seek asylum?
