😂 You hope Starmer, the wet blanket, speaks up. He is a weak individual and does not have the attributes of a leader.

Starmer is probably just relieved that attention is on Trump rather on the mess Labour are making in the UK.

I think it's language difficulties that have exacerbated this . Also differing perspectives. Trump wants to be the negotiator brokering a deal between Russia and Ukraine remaining friendly with both yet Zelenskyy wants America solely on his side.
The west has given billions in war effort yet are no further forward for their money and no nation has a bottomless pit . Trump being a business man wants a return on his money not to keep giving more .
Zelenskyy looks and speaks like a warlord which is a cultural shift , it didn't start well not putting a suit on , his advisors should have told him to make an effort because he isn't on the battlefield he's in possibly the highest office in the world , the Oval Office and for a world watching event he should have known looking scruffy isn't a sign of respecting that office .
I also think Trump is very much a businessman, no political diplomacy's, let's cut to the chase , this is a war , people are dying , what do we need to do to make it happen . The big thing with trump is he needs to be flattered and that didn't happen .

Elon Musk doesn’t wear a suit - not in the Oval Office and not in the Cabinet meeting - and as a previous poster said, musk’s son wiped his snot on the Resolute. Vance and Trump were looking for excuses and things to criticise. If Zelensky had rocked up in a suit, it would have been something else.

Last week he accused Zelensky of being the aggressor, of starting the war with Russia - pure fabrication. Now he’s accusing Zelensky of being the man who will start WW3.

Putin must be absolutely thrilled - and the Russian media was there too, I read. It was a security gaff according to the White House but I now I’m finding it really hard to believe that.

Only if you think the world is one big goodies/baddies batman story.

It isn't.

Grow up.

Tbh we've now got to the stage I think Zelensky should be left to it . We are bankrolling a war for a country most people know nothing about much less care about or have visited . We need to spend the money building our own military for if and when it's needed to defend our own sovereign territory. If America stops their contribution then Ukraine is sunk anyway .

BurrosTail · 01/03/2025 06:38

@HelplessSoul ”Zelensky is a dick. For months, he saw Russian troops amass on his border and refused to engage in talks to prevent the war - instead thinking his (invisble) NATO mates would back him.”

And how do you think any talks with Putin the Fascist, journalist-murderer and authoritarian who openly spoke about reinstating the glory and borders of the old Tzar Russia would go? That Putin would just kindly back off after he’d got a little bit of Ukraine’s land in the East? When he was saying Ukraine is not even a real country? When the ambition was to take over the rest of the Baltic countries, too?

It’s like knowing a mob is outside your house, insisting you give them your house, and then you think that inviting them inside to use just the hallway is going to stop them taking over the whole house. Completely pointless to have talks or concessions because nothing would have ever been good enough for Putin.

Jacquettes · 01/03/2025 06:38

Zelenskyy was ill advised to campaign for Biden so publicly, and to not have understood the sea change in global politics.

How did Zelensky campaign for Biden?

This belief that he did so seems to stem from a visit Zelensky paid to a factory in Pennsylvania that makes munitions that were being sent to Ukraine, and Zelensky thanked them for their efforts. The republicans then amplified this to ‘Zelensky is campaigning for Biden in Pennsylvania.’ That’s all I’ve found. Anyone else found more?

hattie43 · 01/03/2025 06:43

@Jacquettes

The suit is a sideshow but didn't go down well. If you're going cap in hand at least wear attire that would be appreciated by your benefactors and get you off on the right footing .
Musk is an unhinged genius who serves a purpose and wasn't negotiating in the Oval Office .

This war does not exist in a vacuum and Putin's ambitions are not limited to Ukraine. He is literally aiming to march through Europe. It's not just a little country that no-one knows about, and which does not matter (except for it's minerals and it's grain - which has affected all of us for 3 years now) Ukraine is the frontline to the rest of Europe.

Otherwise, why else do you think NATO has been all a dither about it?

So these kinds of super ignorant posters really show the av. persons lack of understanding of Russia. It’s a bit stupid to think it’s a good idea to bring the border closer to you. It’s strategically wiser to keep the frontline as far from your own country as possible, even if it costs money, and Ukraine is a frontline on behalf of the UK. If Putin takes over Ukraine, he won’t stop there. The Baltic countries and Nordic countries have understood this since forever but the message doesn’t seem to get through to the lay people in the UK. You wouldn’t want the new borders between Russia and Europe to follow the old Warsaw Pact lines for heavens sake, how would that benefit the UK to let Russia be bigger and closer to you? 😂😂😂

Nobody needs to find more. In this Brave New World, you believe what the algorithms tell you to and continue to amplify fantasy.

The only way to end a “war” in which you have been invaded by a country which seeks to take you over is to let the other country swallow you up so that you no longer exist, or to get the other country out. Just ask Poland.

FrenchFancie · 01/03/2025 06:53

I don’t understand the mentality of people who say that Ukraine should let Russia have a bit more territory- I mean, they took the Crimea in 2014 and then said that was all they wanted. Clearly that was a lie. If the bully is squaring up to you, why should you concede anything to them?

if Russia decided they want Alaska, is Trump going to turn around and say ‘of yes of course you can have it?’ Or, maybe a better example, Mexico decides it wants to have New Mexico - there’s a lot of ethnically Mexican people there, and Trump isn’t protecting their interests so why not? In Trumps understanding of the world, if Mexico was strong enough to invade, the USA would have to give up that territory.

it doesn’t make sense, Trump is advocating for a world where the big strong countries take what they want, and the rest of us have to grovel and appease them.

hattie43 · 01/03/2025 06:55

@BurrosTail

So what exactly has been achieved in these last 3 yrs ? You have no way of knowing what Russia's aims are , only the propaganda you've been fed to try and justify the enormous cost . As for borders , well let's shore up our own military for if and when our borders are compromised not use all our funds , borrowed or otherwise on someone else's borders .

Remind me, how many times has Zelensky tried to talk directly to Russia to end this war?

Exactly.

Zelensky just wants someone else, anyone else, to fight this war and pay for it so he doesnt have to.

BurrosTail · 01/03/2025 06:55

@HelplessSoul so pls explain to us all how a deal with Russia at the following points in time would have perhaps looked like? a) when Russia was amassing troops on their side of border; b) when Russia was taking over the East and heading to Kyiv?

1457bloom · 01/03/2025 06:55

Trump behaved like a playground bully, unforgivable.

Superhansrantowindsor · 01/03/2025 06:56

I think next time a European leader meets Trump they should also abandon the suit. Absolutely ridiculous that someone questioned his attire.

Ask your mate Zelensky to answer that.

1457bloom · 01/03/2025 06:57

He promised to end the war in one week and he has failed, his ego is bruised.

It was a news journalist that went off on one about the suit.

Neither Trump nor Vance mentioned the suit.

@Biscuitsnotcookies "Zelenskyy was ill advised to campaign for Biden so publicly, and to not have understood the sea change in global politics."

Absolutely this ^

Zelensky brought this fiasco on himself.

And doesn't the guy own a suit? When you have a meeting with the leader of the Free World you don't turn up looking like your about to give your car an oil change.

He's either naive or stupid or both.

I don’t really care what he wears. Trump wears a suit (a badly fitting one as it happens) and he’s still an idiot.

What does he mean?

what he says! If this isn’t resolved it has the potential to escalate into a world war!
