Scary stuff.

I don't know what to say.

If my home was being invaded I would enlist! What's the alternative wait and home to be shot? Some people have no idea of the realities of hostile occupation.

Some posters seem to think that it’s a case of putting up with a bit of unpleasantness before resuming life as usual.

anothernameanotherplanet · 28/02/2025 21:15

Disgraceful. And we've another 3 years 10 months of him.

I feel quite unsettled - particularly as we have Ukrainian guests. They've not seen the news yet.

And if I'm unsettled in the comfort of my retirement, income, intact house etc what about them.

Absolute arsehole.

I don’t think it’s a trump card.

I think it’s the stark reality of what you’re proposing.

I’m not willing to participate in it

Then others will have to, if it comes to that.

Lyannaa · 28/02/2025 21:17

Basically, what’s going to happen now is that Trump withdraws all support for Ukraine, Putin marches on more quickly through Ukraine leaving Europe to decide whether it wants to continue to fight this war.

Putin will continue invading other countries, making the world an ever more dangerous place.

America looks like a joke to the rest of the world.

Massive respect to Trump and Vance for talking straight to that clown and finally putting it as it is.
From a Czech person.
Nobody dared or thought it "morally fitting" to put Mr. Zelensky in place, for three years. Until now.
👍

I've thought we have closed the russian troll farms in the Czechia when we kicked out russian embassy staff, but obviously someone stayed behind...

I really hope to wake up tomorrow and see Czech citizens will have finished the black hawk collection over night.

(Explanation for international posters - in Czechia, we have a campaign "Gift for Putin" where ordinary people collect money towards buying specific items in support of Ukrane. So far we've bought a real tank together, it was named Thomas the Tank, lots of drones, amo, anti-tank missiles, an air-defence unit, a few pieces of artillery and so on. Now we are finishing a collection to buy a helicopter.
Of course it is minor initiative compared to national and EU level support, but it feels good to do something and it shows very clearly to our politicians that we want them to continue supporting Ukraine and are willing to put at least our wallets into it, no matter what the clowns like this one scream online)

StatuteofLiberty · 28/02/2025 21:19

@Biscuitsnotcookies I agree, also trying to consider all views.

Two extremely difficult men both extremely powerful are head to head already via a proxy war in Ukraine.

I think trump by his sheer nature is a threat to putin but trump is friendly to him maybe putin knows it's all a front and doesn't care maybe he does want a way out to save face at home and on the world stage.

There is a deadlock here and it goes on like now, it de escalates with Trump and his deal or it ramps up to nuke to nuke?

People want Trump to call out putin and say he's a bad man.... Biden did that and unfortunately whilst Noble nothing changed and I don't think putin cares for Biden bad words.

You have to box clever, be strategic and that's what starmer did yesterday. Again people didn't want him to they wanted him to look disgusted and be rude.

Someone earlier said you have to play trump and then work from the inside.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 28/02/2025 21:21

Could someone explain to me like I’m 5 what happened?

Lassango · 28/02/2025 21:22

Not a nice watch but Trump has no obligation to spend further billions in a European war when Ukraine are not in Nato and USA directly attacking Russia is in nobodies interest.

Zelensky needs to hold his nose and make a deal happen.

PiggyPigalle · 28/02/2025 21:22

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 28/02/2025 18:32

Hmmm I'm not so sure who is actually the bully, dictator, narcissist here.

Zelensky has forced even younger men to fight in this war by passing a law last year. If you are male and Ukrainian you have no choice to put your life on the line.

How is that fair? How was that a democratic decision?

As a mother of boys I would be absolutely furious to have this forced upon my sons.

He expects every man to die for his country and for other countries to join in with putting their citizens lives down for him too.

I think he's asking for too much now. He wants everyone to fight this war forever. I wonder of Ukraine would send weapons, money and their men to defend America or the UK?

Edited

Zelensky has resisted conscripting younger men in spite of the army wanting him to and Biden putting the pressure on.
However, when the age limit was lowered, 10,000 immediately volunteered. It's almost like they were itching to join up!

I don't think people understand the Ukranians. They are ready to die for their own country. This is their home. They know that they have to fight or die

Russia doesn't care whether you are willing to participate in that.

If they are not opposed now, they will just take more, step by step, breaking ceasefire every few years (as they did in the Ukraine). And once you give them your city without a fight, they will enlist your son to go and fight for their next expansion. That's what Russia does.

If my choices would be to fight against Russia or be annexed and enlisted to fight as a disposable cannon fodder for their cause, my choices are clear. Are yours?

Zelenskyy’s visit to the White House turned into a shitshow with Trump and Vance behaving like thugs. The entire world, apart from Russia, is horrified.

bakedFishandChips · 28/02/2025 21:26

I know some who went back and do not intend to leave Ukraine ever again

Dymaxion · 28/02/2025 21:26

Bluntly it means Ukraine will have to give up territory.

@LifeExperience Do you mean more than they have already or additional land ? And to who ? Russia gets the land and the US gets the mineral rights ? How does that pan out in the future ? Once the minerals are mined out ?

HotTake · 28/02/2025 21:27

Just saw it. I'm not sure who wheeled Vance out - does Elon know Vance has been allowed to speak trying to act tough for daddy trump?

Such bullies not letting Zelensky finish a damn sentence!

Notonthestairs · 28/02/2025 21:28

Ukraine got rid of it's nuclear weapons based on US (and UK) security guarantees.

No trade agreement, no security arrangement between any country and the US has any value now. The US under Trump can not be trusted.

WaryCrow · 28/02/2025 21:29

Biscuitsnotcookies · 28/02/2025 21:12

I am trying to look at all angles and make sense of this.

If Trump had taken a more conciliatory tone how would that help bring about peace. We have become complacent about the danger Russia poses to the world.

Is it possible trump realises there is no chance of peace at all - and a higher chance of nuclear war if he does not make it possible for Putin to come to the table? Trump has to be neutral if he is to broker a peace deal. Zelenskyy basically doesnt think Russia will honor the agreement, that might be true, but I sensed trump was annoyed as Zelenskyy hasn’t even given it a chance yet.

And yes it’s possible things could escalate horribly at any moment within Ukraine.

Edited

You are trying to make sense of it, and think rationally and find reasons, as one would expect of a world leader. I have done so at points too.

It’s a mistake. The last few days have shown me all too clearly that all the worst things that could be thought of Trump are true. Claiming he couldn’t have called Zelenskyy a dictator???

The man is a moron, a child of every extreme privilege Big American can muster, pushed by who-knows-who - possibly an asset of Putin even - who listens only to the last thing said by someone, anyone who flatters him.

There is no reason, and for all Starmer’s work we now have to choose, between Europe and the US. We have to choose Europe, and Ukraine.

Britain has to do what’s right, now that there is no other choice.

10,000 volunteered. So if no conscription they would have volunteered anyway.

So what was the figure for the 25-26 years old that were forced because of the new conscription age?

HotTake · 28/02/2025 21:30

Zelensky showed massive restraint in the face of those two effectively ganging up on him and speaking to him like a toddler being told off. If it were Trump or Vance or another person being spoken to like that, they'd have walked out.

That was nearly 100 years ago.
It was a World War.

A World War that started with one country invading another country and then another…

StatuteofLiberty · 28/02/2025 21:30

@Araminta1003 I've been saying similar and called names.

USA is nato.
USA can't agree to Ukraine being in nato.
USA invests in mines and minerals (that may not even be worth much)
USA has something to defend this is repeated.

Maybe it's staged for putin... Too defend...

To defend.

Trump said I can't sit here and say bad things about putin the get on the phone.

Beekeepingmum · 28/02/2025 21:32

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 28/02/2025 21:21

Could someone explain to me like I’m 5 what happened?

Trumps best friend Elon wanted Trump to get Zelensky to give America rights to minerals that are needed to make electric cars so that Elon can get richer. Zelensky went to the meeting but didn't say thank you as if he "meaned" it. Trump and his mate shouted as Zelensky. Zelensky has to go back to Ukraine so that more of his people can be killed by the Putin for no apparent reason other than Putin wants more land, despite already having a lot of land.

StatuteofLiberty · 28/02/2025 21:32

@aspidernamedfluffy
Sorry didn't mean to tag you. @Purple444

As pp have said, without nukes.
The time to get in was when putin slowly massed his tanks on the front line. We did nothing that was the time to get other tanks there and yet there was zilch there to even make him think twice.
