Scary stuff.

I don't know what to say.

It was disgraceful. Now how will Europe react?

If history is any guide the Europeans will complain a lot, issue sternly worded letters, make a token effort, if that, to increase military spending, find out how many hundreds of billions it will cost to retool European forces to operate without the Americans, realize that western Europeans, especially, are not so willing to give up their cozy social welfare states and send their children to fight and die in trenches in Ukraine, and quietly let Trump and Putin end it.

Just seen Lindsay Graham being interviewed. 'Never been so proud of POTUS.'
Looks like the strategy is to force Zelensky out of office (and install a Putin backed puppet?).

Yep, he had his script ready. It's so blatant.

HPFA · 28/02/2025 20:52

Putin could end this war this minute by simply leaving Ukraine.

He certainly could.

HPFA · 28/02/2025 20:52

Putin could end this war this minute by simply leaving Ukraine.

Exactly! Putin chose to invade. He's choosing to push forward. It's all him.

Would the MAGAs on this thread take the same stance if it was America being invaded?

Biscuitsnotcookies · 28/02/2025 20:55

TENSsion · 28/02/2025 20:53

He certainly could.

Why would he though? Signal such weakness?

Whatsinanamehey · 28/02/2025 20:55

News outlets are having a field day, most people are shocked.

Dymaxion · 28/02/2025 20:55

and quietly let Trump and Putin end it.

@LifeExperience and what does that scenario look like for Ukraine ?

TENSsion · 28/02/2025 20:56

Oh he absolutely won’t. He could though.

I highly doubt it, was he not simpering up to Trump, Yesterday?

He had no choice unless you want to pay for the tariffs on top of existing higher cost of living.

Chilling to even think about it.

TENSsion · 28/02/2025 20:29

What is your solution?

Not giving in.

NotTerfNorCis · 28/02/2025 20:58

On a broader level - it feels like every day, Trump and/or Musk do something really shocking. Why, and to what end? Just in the last two or three days: the ridiculous Trump Gaza video, threatened 25% tariffs on the EU which was 'formed to screw the US', mass sackings of government workers, forcing the Romanian government to release Andrew Tate, now the public humiliation of Zelenskyy and ripping up of a potential peace deal. Is there any plan to this?

It would be the American paying the tarriffs not us.

It's estimated that around 100,000 American men evaded the draft for the Vietnam war.

Presumably JD Vance thinks they were right to do so since he's so against conscription.

Trump certainly does - he was one of them! He made up an injury.

TENSsion · 28/02/2025 20:59

2025willbemytime · 28/02/2025 20:57

Not giving in.

So, declaring war on Russia?

JHound · 28/02/2025 20:59

I saw it - Commander Waterford and his bad eyeliner job really want to emasculate Zelensky, all in service of Putin.

This is what Trump supporters love though so shrugs.

Absolutely if Canada decided to roll into the US and stake a claim on some of the northern states would America just accept that? Of course not!!

NotTerfNorCis · 28/02/2025 20:59

TENSsion · 28/02/2025 20:59

So, declaring war on Russia?

That's already been answered! There is a long way to go before declaring war.

Hmmm I'm not so sure who is actually the bully, dictator, narcissist here.

Zelensky has forced even younger men to fight in this war by passing a law last year. If you are male and Ukrainian you have no choice to put your life on the line.

How is that fair? How was that a democratic decision?

As a mother of boys I would be absolutely furious to have this forced upon my sons.

He expects every man to die for his country and for other countries to join in with putting their citizens lives down for him too.

I think he's asking for too much now. He wants everyone to fight this war forever. I wonder of Ukraine would send weapons, money and their men to defend America or the UK?

I think we do know, and I think whataboutery is quite a dangerous path to go down. There is no equivalence here.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 28/02/2025 21:00

Having listened to a really long podcast recently about WW2 I can understand what’s going on. I don’t understand the public nature of it, that’s feels grotesque, but Russia really cannot be defeated and won’t back down. The only choice unfortunately is to either die fighting or accept the loss. It’s extremely unpalatable and makes a fucking dangerous precedent but there probably is no other option.

How on earth is that a guide from history when both World Wars were started by Europeans?

LuckyPeonies · 28/02/2025 21:01

It was disgusting and infuriating, a repugnant group of school yard bullies grown into adult bullies. And the nerve of one of the entourage yes-men criticizing President Zelensky for not wearing a suit, absolutely vile. I despise the lot of them!!

Araminta1003 · 28/02/2025 20:39

Trump is in on a mandate to do peace and not pay out more on behalf of hardworking Americans - Zelensky is on a mandate not to give in. Both of them need to show that things broke down and then Zelensky had no choice but to sign a commercial minerals deal, and he cannot be seen to do a “bad” deal. Neither can the US. Meanwhile they also need to trick Putin and the Russians as a whole into thinking they “won” - Putin needs to look good, because no Putin in this current state of Russia may be even worse. I think the whole thing is staged (at least on the US part, clearly rehearsed, watch Trump coming in and sitting comfortably before that). Why they think this has to be played out in public these days, rather than behind closed doors, is all rather strange.
Zelensky will sign some deal in the next few days, that is my prediction. Both Putin and Trump will be made to be to look like winners and Zelensky will be made to look like he had no choice but to sign the deal. Putin will know full well he cannot go and interfere on the territory covered by the minerals deal. Nato back door, like I said. All these men just want to stay in power and come out looking like they did the right thing.

Genius.
