Scary stuff.

I don't know what to say.

OP posts:
GoldfinchFeather · 28/02/2025 20:29

I'm furious that millions of Americans voted for this orange faced (enter expletives of your own choice) to bully the leader of a country who has been bravely fighting off an invasion against a much more powerful adversary for the past three years, just because the price of 'gas' was a bit high.

A disgraceful country being led by disgraceful men. No other way of putting it at this point.

Not sure what you think is going to happen. Ukraine falls then who next. Do you really think Russia will stop there.

Or will you be happy for Trump and Putin to carve up the Western world between them

What’s your solution?

Zelensky is a real man. Trump is an odious creep.

Starmer is managing to be dignified in all this. Grateful the UK has him and not Johnson right now. God could you imagine

I always thought Boris Johnson was at his best on the world stage. It was reported last year that (former PM) Johnson's discussion with Trump was important in helping to release the £60 billion military aid package for Ukraine, which had been blocked by Republicans. There's a good chance that Johnson would have been a better go-between for Ukraine than Starmer or Macron.

Honeyroar · 28/02/2025 20:31

It’s been like watching The Apprentice again, only it’s world leaders being wheeled out in front of Trump to suck up to him and get spoken to like they’re idiots.

Picoloangel · 28/02/2025 20:31

It was really shocking. The BBC reporter looked really shaken. I wonder if it was all a big set up to enable Trump to justify to the American public - at least for the gullible component of it - withdrawing help to Ukraine and aligning itself with Putin.

Even though it’s theft and bullying part of me wanted Zelensky to agree to the deal just to try and avoid an escalation. I feel guilty for saying that though. Easy for us to say. As Zelensky said, we have a sea.

RosaAna · 28/02/2025 20:27

That was increadibly uncomfortable to watch. Trump & Vance are bullies.
Looked like it was planned by the two of them.

I bet they have watched it back numerous times cackling like the thick bullies that they are, slapping each other on the back and gloating about how macho they think they are. "hey JD, I sure told that idiot where to go", "sure did Mr President, and we didn't even have to host the creep at dinner",

TENSsion · 28/02/2025 20:32

The choices are:

  1. appeasement- give Putin some land
  2. continue to arm Ukraine and watch them slowly lose a war
  3. provide military support and start a war with Russia.

Sadly I'm deadly serious
Elon almost like the false prophet, I know the false prophet is a religious thing but feel like tech is almost a religion in and of itself these days!
One thing is for sure, we're in scary times.
I'm too aghast to watch these conferences id feel like I was rubbernecking an assault or something.

Yes this is it, rubbernecking an assault. I feel like I need to call the police and report what I saw.

Chamberlain has been used as an insult.
The implication being that he was foolish for NOT wanting to join the war in Europe.

That can only mean that this poster thinks we SHOULD be going to war with Russia. Offering our military support and start conscription proceedings. Just what Chamberlain tried to avoid.

He wasn't foolish for not wanting to, for hoping it could be avoided, but he misjudged it completely in thinking that it could be avoided. Hitler, like Putin was never going to stop. Putin has said what he wants, repeatedly, and has moved towards what he wants and has not backed down so far. He won't be appeased. Nor will whoever comes after him.

Cattenberg · 28/02/2025 20:33

CassiasC · 28/02/2025 20:21

By that daft logic I could equally say that you should volunteer to live under an oppressive autocratic regime.

There is a reason people feel so strongly about not giving into Putin.

Not just because living under an oppressive autocratic regime is shit, but because appeasing Putin has been tried before and hasn’t worked.

NotTerfNorCis · 28/02/2025 20:33

I wonder if it was all a big set up to enable Trump to justify to the American public - at least for the gullible component of it - withdrawing help to Ukraine and aligning itself with Putin.

That really is the only explanation I can think of.

Maybe Trump has a secret deal with Putin to extract money and minerals from Ukraine once Putin has won the war.

What’s your solution?

What's yours?

Have you one that doesn't include Trump and Vance behaving like bad mannered pricks and carving up another country which isn't theirs to begin with.

You've said that you think the first option is best. So what happens when Putin decides to go after Poland?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/02/2025 20:35

TENSsion · 28/02/2025 19:38

Yes. Very likely.

But what’s the alternative?

If allowed which country will be next?

Cattenberg · 28/02/2025 20:33

Not just because living under an oppressive autocratic regime is shit, but because appeasing Putin has been tried before and hasn’t worked.

So you and @LuluBlakey1 want to go to war with Russia?

There is a fourth option, which is that America could talk tough with Russia. Trump has shown he's very good at making threats. Unfortunately he's only good at doing it to soft targets, so far.

Putin kills his "friends" and Russia is a basketcase country.

Being paid to troll Mumsnet counts as a good job.

We should feel sorry for them, but ultimately, they are serving a tyranny that Putin wants to extend to other countries.

Trump hates Zelensky because he refused to provide information about Hunter Biden’s business dealings in Ukraine….

With Trump it is all personal. He never forgets a personal slight.

He absolutely does with enough arse kissing. Remember when Vance compared him to hitler and now he’s VP?

I thought the whole thing was hideous but Zelensky shouldn’t have lost his temper. I’m not saying he wasn’t well within his rights to - he absolutely was - but he would’ve got further with some grovelling and sycophancy even if he had to go throw up straight after. For everyone pissing and moaning about Starmer’s approach, he played it incredibly well (& probably found it just as distasteful) but the only way to exert ANY influence over gorillas like Trump is by making them feel all special. Gross but true.

Petuniaspetal · 28/02/2025 20:37

faffadoodledo · 28/02/2025 19:10

Agree. And that state visit. Urgh. Don't suppose Starmer can withdraw it now. But it must be tempting

I live in Ireland if trump gets to the UK, I will be demonstrating against his visit. I'm sure i wont be alone.

I think some people on this thread should read up about the concept of the "Russkiy Mir" and what Putin and his Chief Priest Kyrill envisage.

I am Orthodox ( not Russian ) and do not believe this will happen
