Scary stuff.

I don't know what to say.

OP posts:

Trump & Vance are a pair of ignorant Bastards that have destroyed Americas credibility around the world.

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 28/02/2025 20:20

Come to an agreement. Yes. Give putin something.
Move on.
Stop us all being blown to smithereens and young Ukrainian and Russian men being used as cannon fodder.

Hard agree

Why doesn't he want to roll over and let Russia take over? Is that what you're asking??

This is what she is saying and is plain stupid. Young lives, old lives, women's lives, baby's lives, people in hospitals lives are all the same when you are invaded. Rather defend yourself with every life you can defend yourself

The US has sunk $119.7 billion (£94.3.billion) into Ukraine.

Did the US buy weapons from other countries for Ukraine ? or did they send weapons made in the US ? Because if the weapons were made in the US, then in a roundabout way, that money has been spent supporting US businesses, workers and their families ? All of whom also pay taxes to the US Government. I imagine its quite complicated to work out the net figure when you take into account all of that ?
Also if US businesses then provide weapons etc to NATO countries who are bolstering their own military, well it might actually work out to be a benefit cost wise to the US ?

Mostly US made. It’s been propping up the economy in some states quite nicely. They will miss it if the US stops sending weapons.

They are al sending weapons that are close to expiry and would need disposing of and replacing anyway so it’s debate able how much of that money would have just been written off if they weren’t sending weapons to Ukraine.

They have just wheeled out Lindsey Graham- Senior Republican Senator- to the Press outside the Oval Office.
He said they had made the agreement last night and he warned Zelensky Trump would be combative today and said 'Don't take the bait'. Said he couldn't believe how Zelensky behaved and that he thought he was disrespectful to the President and the US in the White House.
He's a Trumpite so he would say that but......
They want rid of Zelensky and have tried very hard today to make him look bad on a national and international stage.

Wow! Lindsay Graham has been one of the biggest Ukraine war promoters in the Senate. Lindsay never met a war he didn't want to fund, until today.

Why?
You have scoffed at my wish for appeasement and attempted to use “Chamberlain” as an insult.
If we “stand up to Putin” someone’s going to have to go off and fight.
Surely all you who condemn an appeasement should be the first to volunteer?

By that daft logic I could equally say that you should volunteer to live under an oppressive autocratic regime.

There is a reason people feel so strongly about not giving into Putin.

Sadly I'm deadly serious
Elon almost like the false prophet, I know the false prophet is a religious thing but feel like tech is almost a religion in and of itself these days!
One thing is for sure, we're in scary times.
I'm too aghast to watch these conferences id feel like I was rubbernecking an assault or something.

Technology is definitely a religion. I hadn’t considered Musk as a false prophet but it’s an interesting thought.
I always (inwardly) thought people who talked about the end times and linking it to politics were just scare mongering.

But it’s definitely interesting times….

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”

This is my comfort in this whole mess that is the world stage.

lifeonmars100 · 28/02/2025 20:22

I watched this with my mouth hanging open in utter disbelief. No words for the vile ignorance of Trump and his pathetic side kick Vance. The world becomes more dangerous with every single day this lunatic is in power. On a side note, what on earth does it do for children to see that the most powerful man in the world is a lying lound mouthed bully?

Lyannaa · 28/02/2025 20:22

@TENSsion unless you're Ukrainian (which you might be) then your opinion doesn't mean much either, does it in regards to Ukraines response? All of the Ukrainians I have come across want to fight for their country and why shouldn't they?

I live in the UK, personally and yes I'd be willing to fight for it if it came to it. I wouldn't be running away, saying 'oh they have nuclear weapons let them do what they want'. You'd be naive to assume that a dictator would let you live after they took over.

A hypothetical scenario in any case since we also have nuclear capability and MAD stops anything happening really.

Nothatgingerpirate · 28/02/2025 20:23

Massive respect to Trump and Vance for talking straight to that clown and finally putting it as it is.
From a Czech person.
Nobody dared or thought it "morally fitting" to put Mr. Zelensky in place, for three years. Until now.
👍

Does anyone think writing to MPs to ask for invitation for Trump to visit UK be kicked into the long gras be worth it? Feel pretty helpless but would like to show support for Ukraine/Zelenskyy

I think it would be too inlfamatory and escalate things - but I hate that, that is the case.

We are still a democracy with a parliamentary system and we can lobby them to voice objections, which I suspect many will do but realistically it's unlikely to actually happen.

I think Gov still have to play the part and model the good behaviour, we have entertained all sorts of ghastly people over the years, but there have been protests and robust criticism each time - we can change the narrative around the visit.

OTH (and I am no fan of the royal family) - I feel a bit like an actual king telling him to piss off properly might be the only thing that Trump would listen to and care about, being a sycophantic twat. Does King Charles trump (pun intended) Russian dictator?

Bakewelltart1 · 28/02/2025 20:24

I asked my class yesterday if they knew who was in charge of our country.
A few answered Donald Trump. Not one mentioned our prime minister.

As I explained that he wasn’t, and that it was Keir Starmer, I actually thought how false that was. Sadly, they aren’t wrong!

Chamberlain has been used as an insult.
The implication being that he was foolish for NOT wanting to join the war in Europe.

That can only mean that this poster thinks we SHOULD be going to war with Russia. Offering our military support and start conscription proceedings. Just what Chamberlain tried to avoid.

CerealPosterHere · 28/02/2025 18:14

The only compromise which the USA seems to think he should accept is letting his country be invaded/boundary lines redrawn so part of Ukraine is given to Russia.

trump wouldn’t do that if Russia decided they wanted Alaska. Though I kind of see the point what’s the choice if you don’t have the weapons and manpower to fight. If the military supplies from other countries dries up they’re stuffed. Maybe they are willing to fight to the death 🤷🏻‍♀️. Like for everyone

Trump has the resources to fight Russia , unlike Zelenski. Ukraine unfortunately will be history if it wasn’t for US support . Zelenski is stuck unfortunately, it’s either minerals the border and peace or fight Putin alone

Wintersgirl · 28/02/2025 20:26

Trump should have stuck to being an extra in Home Alone.....

The way they spoke to him was no way to speak to anyone in a professional/political meeting.

Regardless of who they were speaking to.

Channellingsophistication · 28/02/2025 20:26

I think the UK needs to give Ukraine a nuclear missile. Make them a nuclear state.

Absolutely not.

RosaAna · 28/02/2025 20:27

That was increadibly uncomfortable to watch. Trump & Vance are bullies.
Looked like it was planned by the two of them.

We are providing financial assistance.
If we stop providing financial assistance, I will stop worrying about our involvement and let Ukraine get on with their own politics without concern.

I really don’t want to go to war with Russia. If Trump and Vance putting on a show for Putin ensures we won’t, then so be it.

Not sure what you think is going to happen. Ukraine falls then who next. Do you really think Russia will stop there.

Or will you be happy for Trump and Putin to carve up the Western world between them

I love it that smug middle class mumsnetters sit in their cosy homes, eager to sacrifice foreign young men for their futile ideological wars.

Do you also love that Putin sits safe in his underground bunkers whilst sacrificing his young men to illegally invade a country

The new “Axis of Evil”?

With a bit of nostalgia added to the pie!
It's easier to dig up old plans than to create new ones.

Don't forget Putin is / was a highly intelligent KGB agent... speaks several languages and definitely knows how to manipulate Trump people.
