Scary stuff.

I don't know what to say.

OP posts:
Uricon2 · 28/02/2025 20:09

@GreekDogRescue as you are saying you are a Ukrainian, what do you think should happen? Also, do you think Putin is likely to adhere to any agreement he makes?

spoodlesee · 28/02/2025 20:09

They also couldn't care less about the land - it's an infertile, wasteland. It's worthless to them.

This makes no sense..,where do they live? work?

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 28/02/2025 20:09

Pootlemcsmootle · 28/02/2025 19:26

But what would your solution be then?

Unfortunately in war time there is war. It's a mess and every resource has to be thrown at it.

Ukraine is a buffer between Europe and Russia by this point. We all learnt in history class the gross mistake that acquiescing in the face of Hitler was. History shows beyond any shadow of a doubt that Putin sees compromise and immediately exploits it.

The simple truth is Russia invaded Ukraine. This isn't a war. It's an invasion. It's like a disease spreading throughout someone's body. You have to fight back. There's no choice. Sad but true.

Norway, Finland, Estonia and Latvia share a border with Russia. The Ukraine is not the 'gateway to Europe'. Being conquered by Russia makes Europe no more or less under threat by invasion from Russia.

And we are in the 21st Century - there are planes, drones, long range missiles a plenty. Russia doesn't exactly need to put boots on to start a war with Europe if it wants to. It can just press a few buttons.

Araminta1003 · 28/02/2025 20:10

And also, this TV show thing appeared incredibly staged and given both Zelensky and Trump are TV personalities, no idea whether to take this at face value or not.

spoodlesee · 28/02/2025 20:10

and blindly support Zelenskyy when the Ukrainians do not.

No Ukrainians at all support Zelenskyy?

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 28/02/2025 20:10

I'm scared now. Poor Ukraine :(

Vance was disgusting. What did he want, Zelensky on his hands and knees prostrating thanks? I watched the whole sorry show. I'm pleased Zelensky left early, he can hold his head up high. I agree with a poster above that he looked like he was dealing with imbeciles. It's just an utter shame that these people do actually hold the cards 😪
That's actually made me really sad.

Vance is the attack dog.....

Cattenberg · 28/02/2025 20:08

Agreed. We’re not allowed to call it out because apparently that’s troll-hunting. But it’s the same pattern all over again. It takes the Putin/Trump supporters a bit of time to get to us, then suddenly there’s loads of them. All with similar scripts.

Why do you think Russia would be bothered about influencing some mums in the UK?

TENSsion · 28/02/2025 20:12

Lyannaa · 28/02/2025 20:08

I certainly don’t suggest that appeasing him would work, which is what you seem to think should happen.

When you appease dictators, they become emboldened to carry on.

So I assume that you @Witchlite and@Donttellempike will be the first to encourage your sons, brother, husbands etc. to sign up and fight for “what is right”

Dymaxion · 28/02/2025 20:12

The US has sunk $119.7 billion (£94.3.billion) into Ukraine.

Did the US buy weapons from other countries for Ukraine ? or did they send weapons made in the US ? Because if the weapons were made in the US, then in a roundabout way, that money has been spent supporting US businesses, workers and their families ? All of whom also pay taxes to the US Government. I imagine its quite complicated to work out the net figure when you take into account all of that ?
Also if US businesses then provide weapons etc to NATO countries who are bolstering their own military, well it might actually work out to be a benefit cost wise to the US ?

Wannabeblueysmum · 28/02/2025 20:12

Does anyone think writing to MPs to ask for invitation for Trump to visit UK be kicked into the long gras be worth it? Feel pretty helpless but would like to show support for Ukraine/Zelenskyy

I've wondered about a petition

Ah so someone sitting safely in the UK arrogantly dismisses the opinion of some mere ‘foreigner’ discussing the affairs of her own country.

I don’t think I’d say sitting safely .
I think it’s time to step up and protect everyone’s rights.
We the west have been tip toeing around people for too long.
Do you think I don’t understand the risk to going against America and standing for Ukraine .

War Does not fill me with anything but dread.
Zelenskyy is doing his country proud.

Let’s all back down to , two bullies trump and Putin.
The goal posts will keep changing . Neither can be trusted .

Not to mention all the minerals under the ground trump wants

Engleberthumper · 28/02/2025 20:11

The "think of your poor sons" rhetoric.

Totally ignoring the fact that in the unlikely event this happens, it would be girls too. Strange, considering the history of the USSR/Red Army.

SeLHopeful2024 · 28/02/2025 20:14

This was awful to watch, and I've only seen a small amount.
Trump and Vance are horrible bullies, nothing more.
Unfortunately, horrible bullies who couldn't do unspeakable harm.

Poor Zelensky. I think he was set up from the start.

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 28/02/2025 20:14

MumsTheWordFact · 28/02/2025 19:47

You may or may not agree with aiding Ukraine, but watching the USA tell Ukraine give us almost all your mineral wealth and therefore long term prosperity or we'll let these other people destroy you, is sickening and despicable.

I hope all the world is taking note and making preparations for the future.

Edited

. . . but that's exactly what the UK, and basically all Western countries, have done for thousands of years.

It's why you are in a warm home tap tap tapping on your laptop or phone right now.

That piece of IT is full of minerals from less well off countries, badgered into deals by the west.

DrAnnaTaylorRyan · 28/02/2025 20:14

So any smaller country invaded by its more powerful neighbours should just go "oh, rightio, we can't win this so rather than fight we will just quickly surrender" ?

No sane parent wants their young people conscripted or fighting, of course not. It must be terrifying. Having three young adult sons the thought horrifies me. But so does the thought of Russia wondering in to my home country and declaring it is now part of Russia, and my government just rolling over.

TENSsion · 28/02/2025 20:15

Donttellempike · 28/02/2025 20:12

Your ignorance is too enormous to bother with.

Why?
You have scoffed at my wish for appeasement and attempted to use “Chamberlain” as an insult.
If we “stand up to Putin” someone’s going to have to go off and fight.
Surely all you who condemn an appeasement should be the first to volunteer?

NotTerfNorCis · 28/02/2025 20:15

And also, this TV show thing appeared incredibly staged and given both Zelensky and Trump are TV personalities, no idea whether to take this at face value or not.

But what is there to gain from it? Trump just ruined the pending deal with Ukraine. What is he expecting to come next? Is this just a sell-out to Russia? How could Zelenskyy possibly benefit from what just happened?

LifeExperience · 28/02/2025 20:15

Maurepas · 28/02/2025 19:44

He has a few nuclear bombs which he has said he will use.

A few? Putin has 5,580 functional nuclear warheads as we speak.

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 28/02/2025 20:18

rainydaysandrainbows · 28/02/2025 19:44

As we've seen on the news, those areas under Russian control have resulted in young men being tortured and murdered just for being Ukrainian not even mentioning the rapes and attacks happening to women. Of course there's conscription what's the alternative?

Do you think our government should enforce conscription straight away then and send every British 25 year old over to Ukraine to help stop the 'Russian invasion of Europe and prevent WW3' then?

It sounds like they should judging how scared everyone on here is of that being exactly what is going to happen.
