So much for the Trump Bounce

All is promises at the before the election...now he says he can't promise anything. Stock market has nose dived and NATO are sending troops to Greenland because of his threats, the people of Gaza are being told to leave to go no one knows because Trump was it as a holiday destination.

He's pulled out of the climate treaty, the world health organisation and now imposed sanctions on the ICC.

I dispair and despise the Americans who voted this man in because we now have to deal with the consequences of the fallout of that man.

Let's not forget the shutdown of the Consumer Rights Protection Board, which protects people from the predatory and corrupt practices of corporations

Or the firing of all the inspector generals, including one who was investigating Musk for not complying with national security protocols

And targeting NOAA which the whole world relies on for weather and environmental data

The damage is immense and anyone applauding it is a fool

DOGE are a bunch of young men, under the control of a foreign oligarch, who have accessed all social security numbers and private citizen information, have downloaded all the information they've accessed onto President Musk's own servers and for who knows what purpose?

DEI abolition means only straight white men can apply for jobs and the recent moves to remove OSHA is the equivalent of removing all Health & Safety legislation here

Even the acronym is a play on crypto-currency

Do you really not know the purpose of DOGE? Or are you playing dumb?

Many many many people do not believe that DEI is a good replacement for merit based systems. What’s your view on recruitment for, say, pilots? What’s the relationship between DEI and merit that you’d like to see?

hamstersarse · 09/02/2025 16:01

I dread to think how you guys are going to cope with RFK Jr

DOGE is nothing compared to what’s going to happen when he gets going, I stupidly thought everyone would want government waste and corruption sorted out, but apparently not! Wait til you find out pharmaceutical drugs make people ill, and your food is full of poison, literally.

I wonder if there is ever any thought about who might be telling you that Elon musk is ‘stealing data’ and being all corrupt….you know, like the ones who have benefited from the corruption or something?
Government agency information should be transparent for all citizens, shouldn’t it? Why should there be secret financial transactions with public money?

It crosses my mind they might be hiding something these people who are protesting 🤪

And a lot of what’s been released so far confirms this

DemonicCaveMaggot · 09/02/2025 16:26

There is no reason whatsoever for Elon Musk or his employees to have access to my birth date or social security number, none whatsoever. My objecting to that does not make me a person benefitting from government corruption and trying to make out it does just makes you look ridiculous.

The effects of RFK Jr are already being felt. The CDC has been blocked from issuing vaccine safety information (oh the irony) to health professionals across the US together with other useful information like disease outbreaks.

Getting rid of FDA, EPA and USDA or drastically cutting the number of their employees is also not going to improve the health of any US citizens. There just won't be enough people to monitor companies dumping hazardous waste where it can get into drinking water (a lot of water is obtained from wells and aquifers), and that pollution levels won't actually kill people (LA used to regularly have smog alerts where the elderly and children were advised to stay indoors AQMD has improved air quality enormously).

Everybody wants small, effective, government but chopping at stuff wholesale without understanding that the departments do or how they function is not the way to do it. Elon Musk is going to rapidly change the air traffic control system. Given the number of accidents per miles driven by self driving Teslas, are you comfortable with that? I'm not.

dreamingbohemian · 09/02/2025 17:15

It's hard to believe people actually fall for the insane bullshit narratives spewed out by Trump and his allies. You almost hope they're trolls because otherwise their capacity for rational thought is gone. I don't know how we get people thinking rationally again.

I hate to break it to you but I don’t think they are interested in your social security number. What do you think they are going to do with it? Why is this even a talking point? What are you imagining?

As far as Elon Musk and air traffic control…correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen his company parallel park a space rocket the size of the Shard quite safely recently. Although that may be misinformation

Damn straight I’m worried about RFK Jr. the main responsible for an outbreak of a preventable disease in the pacific islands. A man who doesn’t know the first thing about how any of the stuff he talks about works.
Yes, American food is awful (other countries manage), yes the ridiculous American health system of insurance payments and low corporate regulation has resulted in abhorrent behaviour from pharmaceutical companies. However, even less regulation is really not the way to go!

Do you mean this measles outbreak?

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-50625680.amp

in Samoa, who had stopped the MMR vaccine before he even visited? And there was a worldwide measles outbreak?

A health professional prepares to vaccinate someone against measles in Auckland

Two babies died after being given a wrongly-mixed vaccination - and the effects are still being felt.

I have no idea what he'll do with my personal information, and neither do you. The point is neither he nor his employees should have access to it and they do.

His company worked for years in order to be able to safely launch and control a rocket, but he's talking about changing the air traffic control system 'rapidly'. Rapidly means weeks or months, not years.

I am so glad not to be in the EU. One look at Germany, and I know I made the right decision when I voted to leave.

Climate change is always happening and is not important. I would like more focus placed on litter control and waste in our rivers. This country is disgusting.

I agree we don’t look after our environment enough in the UK. It’s a shame England doesn’t conform to the EU standards on testing water any more, for example. Less frequent testing means less accountability. England to diverge from EU water monitoring standards

That’s the one thing he’s got right so far.

America doesn’t allow more than 2 terms for a president. This will be his final term as a president of the United States.

He's shown great interest in staying on for another term. He's even said as much. This would require constitutional amendment, or force.

I'm interested in your thoughts on the recruitment of pilots. What do you think has been occurring?

I am in Canada. An acquaintance retired to Florida about 10 years ago. I am in sporadic contact with him. He lives in a trailer-park (I think Brits would call it a caravan), and works part-time as a Uber driver.

My acquaintance believes that Trump is on a mission from the Almighty to return the US and the world to the path of righteousness. I think his view is shared, to a great degree, by low-income low-intelligence Republicans.

Funny that, you seemed to make a real effort in your first post to describe someone who you considered to be a bit thick

something to do with the words ‘low income low intelligence’ that you used

Must be me reading too much into it eh

Bouledeneige · 11/02/2025 15:50

And I've only ever seen a gun in real life once - in the glovebox of a car I was in in Virginia. It frightened the hell out of me. It's just not normal.

HappydaysArehere · 22/02/2025 11:15

Poor America being led up the garden path by an exhibitionist who can hardly string a sentence together and bullies his way through life. He has little intelligence and general knowledge about anything excepting how to make a profit.

Circularmadness · 23/02/2025 18:07

Needmilkandbread · 09/02/2025 09:05

You talk as if your view is the only right view to hold. Which is typical of people of a left leaning political persuasion. And part of the reason why Americans voted for Trump.

Many Americans were unhappy being told how to live morally, give away their money, make sacrifices for the environment and other countries, and to accept being poorer for a greater good. Trump promised change and is delivering that change, and many votes are delighted.

Over here in the UK, people are wishing we had a leader who was determined to make life better for Brits. Who would stop giving our money away and would stop trying to force us all to be cold and catching buses for the sake of the environment. Distrust and disappointment in government is growing and we are looking at hopefully something fresh in the future.

You can think that’s foolish all you want. It doesn’t matter. I think people who actively want to get poorer for a perceived greater good are foolish too. I’m just happy things are moving in the desired direction.

Who do you think will make life better for Brits then?

DEI meant that the best candidate got picked, regardless of sex, race or sexuality, rather than the least worst white guy.

‘Low intelligence’
Because he lives in accommodation you despise and does a job you wouldn’t countenance?
