So much for the Trump Bounce

All is promises at the before the election...now he says he can't promise anything. Stock market has nose dived and NATO are sending troops to Greenland because of his threats, the people of Gaza are being told to leave to go no one knows because Trump was it as a holiday destination.

He's pulled out of the climate treaty, the world health organisation and now imposed sanctions on the ICC.

I dispair and despise the Americans who voted this man in because we now have to deal with the consequences of the fallout of that man.

Hes just playing games to benefit him and his friends. Im not taking any of it seriously but am trying to ride the wave.

Sold large amount of my stock Sunday eve. The MACD has flipped so it’s going to crab sideways or slowly fall for a while. Great opportunity to buy back in at the bottom.

Just ride the wave and try to not to take it seriously. It’s mostly posturing.

Topseyt123 · 08/02/2025 01:17

I agree. He seems more of a dangerous loose cannon by the day.

I'm thinking that the "special relationship" (if there's anything left of it) must be at an end, at least while such a despot is in the White House.

How anyone could ever vote for him is beyond me, and he is destroying what respect I had left for America. I suspect I am not alone there.

dubsie · 08/02/2025 08:11

I'm not riding this wave it's awful, America has cast a shadow on the entire world.

From human rights to our battle to save our fragile planet has all been blasted by what I can only describe as an extremely spoilt child who should be never been allowed to be president.

I honestly believe he's going to annex Canada and Greenland and I think he'll give Gaza to Israel after turning into some Trump style resort.

Our politicians need to come together and figure out a way to counter the extreme threat from America. Because this is what this is, it's a threat like nothing we have faced since Hitler. The power America wields is enormous and is comparable with 1940s Germany although back then there were no super powers.

I've read a lot of history and the last time America became isolated it led to Pearl Harbour and it was the result of extreme tariffs on Japan in attempt to stop the Japanese war with China.

This is far worse in that he's threatening his neighbours with tariffs, tearing up accords and agreements and threatening to invade long standing allies.

The only thing that will counter this is unified strength and the acceptance that we will have to stand up to America and if required defend countries like Greenland and Canada with troops.

It’s so odd how people see the same events and perceive it completely differently

I see Trump bringing renewed optimism, blatant honesty and rebuilding trust

DOGE, for example, is absolutely glorious. I wish it existed here

You are a fool then, sacking millions of government workers is not glorious and hand the savings to a tiny minority of wealthy individuals is hardly something I'd be proud of.

This is the end of America as a democratic nation....Trump won't concede if he loses next time....he's a Hungarian dictator in the making

Wasting taxpayers money is not acceptable, anywhere. It’s the basics of trust in government.

You probably haven’t heard the people that are being sacked are getting very good severance pay. Up to 2 years!

GildedRage · 08/02/2025 08:51

the USA is broke, trillions in debt no source of income will be left unturned.
it’s really pathetic to see how many organizations and countries are totally dependent on the US.

You clearly have an immensely limited understanding of politics if you think any of this glorious - or you’re just taking the piss.

Yes, the people of Denmark are falling over themselves to hand over Greenland with its strategic geographical position and rare earth minerals.
The people of Gaza want nothing more than to be forced to leave their country.
Canada is drooling at the mouth at becoming the 51State.
And Nato is not researching what happens when one of its members invades another.

Yup, it's all about bringing renewed optimism and rebuilding trust.🙄

User32459 · 08/02/2025 09:08

There's no easy fix for the economy.

The economic system, in America and the west, collapsed in 2008.

Republican presidents have one way of managing the economy: tax cuts, rich get richer and trickle down economics (which is a myth).

logicisall · 08/02/2025 09:35

The top two countries currently receiving the most US foreign aid are Ukraine and Israel.
Many Americans estimate foreign aid to constitute 26% of the federal budget on average. In reality, foreign assistance typically makes up less than 1%.

Not sure about anyone else but the stock market has done okay for me. But then I’m a YOLO Wall Street Bets kinda guy….

Some people thought Liz Truss had good ideas and were optimistic about her sweeping changes.

They’re getting 8 months.

Then they’ll be unemployed. Great for the economy.

Foreign aid buys influence, by withdrawing foreign aid your withdraw influence. It's powerful tool and rings in domestic politics particularly those with a popular narrative.

That's the danger of populism, Trump got into power on this notion but his real agenda isn't so popular so better to keep the minions happy with popular things like withdrawing aid from Africa but failing to talk about Israel which can afford to provide free healthcare for it's citizens while Americans see that as some step towards communism.

I think there is a shadow developing and it will usher in a dark period of history for America.

UK was ahead of the US in having its own prepubescent edgelord "pwn the Libs !!!" moment (2019- 2022). That went so badly that I think it's fair to cautiously hope that it has passed, but you will still be able to enjoy the knock-on results (also known as "Brexit Benefits") for a very long time to come.

They are being OFFERED 8 months severance pay and Trump has a lot of past form for stiffing people. They have been warned by their unions not to accept the offer because money hasn't been assigned by Congress to pay for it.

They can easily resign and then be left with no money while Trump says 'It's nothing to do with me, it's the fault of the radical left dems and Congress'.

Halfemptyhalfling · 08/02/2025 10:09

I assume the out of work administrators will sell their souls to keep a roof over their head and move to the private sector. If trump does reduce immigration from the mexican border there will be more labouring jobs available but they will be very poor in conditions and pay. Suspect people from India will continue to come in to cheaply fill tech jobs as the tech giants have joined forces with trump. Could be a mini recession if a lot of Govt and other white collar jobs go due to doge plus ai

Don't be ridiculous. They are going to 'rapidly' change the air traffic control system, are getting rid of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and are giving access to all US citizens' social security numbers, birth dates etc. (that can be used for identity theft and God knows what else) to people who may or may not have security clearances. At least one of the people was fired from a previous internship for leaking information to a competitor.

When they get rid of the Dept of Education that means the end of free school meals and a lot of funding for schools in the most deprived areas. The expectation is that the states will pick up covering that. They won't. Also the common core curriculum will vanish so we'll be back to the days when a 12th grade student in Alabama could graduate high school with the equivalent of an 8th grade education in Maine.

Do you feel optimistic and trustful about flying in American airspace after so many experienced air traffic control staff have been sacked?

If you were a woman with an ectopic pregnancy in a state which bans abortion, how optimistic would you feel?

It's actually 8 months. How long do you think that lasts if you or your family need health care and you know longer have access to your employers' health insurance?

Aintnobodygottime · 08/02/2025 10:30

Transparency is being eroded as power is being given to unelected billionaires. How can anyone see Trumps actions as increasing transparency?
