So much for the Trump Bounce

All is promises at the before the election...now he says he can't promise anything. Stock market has nose dived and NATO are sending troops to Greenland because of his threats, the people of Gaza are being told to leave to go no one knows because Trump was it as a holiday destination.

He's pulled out of the climate treaty, the world health organisation and now imposed sanctions on the ICC.

I dispair and despise the Americans who voted this man in because we now have to deal with the consequences of the fallout of that man.

Isn't it obvious? Where once a long, hot, dry spell was relatively rare, they are now coming around more frequently. Whilst it will never be exactly regular, we are in a situation where wildfires in the US were a rarity, and we are now in a situation where they have to be alert to the danger at least once every two or three years.

Any chance the change in how the land is used and managed also plays a role? Or is it just the minuscule increase in carbon that is the absolute only explanation?

Is there any part of you that thinks there may be some corruption in USAID? Any corruption at all?!

Governments have a duty to spend tax payer money responsibly and not to be lining the pockets of dubious leaders / NGOs.

If there is even the possibility that Taxpayer money is part of corrupt ‘Humanitarian Aid’ programmes, it needs to be stopped immediately, which is what they have done.

If you hate people lining their pockets from dodgy deals, take a look at what they’ve found in USAID, and tell me how Trump is wrong

Certainly there should not be corruption in humanitarian aid. But is stopping all aid really the answer, even in areas where it has actually been getting through to where it is desperately needed? Wouldn't it be better to take effective steps to tackle corruption? Face it, the US has the means to do that.

Funny how people perceive convicted, sex abusing, felons differently. Your glorious is debauched.

Could you remind me how Trump is a “convicted sex offender”?

He can’t stand next time so not relevant

Do you not think there is a real danger that Trump will seek to overturn the two term principle? Is he really going to be satisfied with the prospect of all his so-called reforms being overturned in four years' time?

All aid is not stopped permanently, it’s under review.
The fact is there is a massive ‘humanitarian’ racket and it’s being going on for a long time and needs to stop. Decisive action was needed not years and years of ‘enquiries’ all the while spunking taxpayers cash

FrutenGlee · 09/02/2025 08:54

Absolutely not disagreeing that political choices may have impacted too in one of the wealthiest places in the world.. there could be local public underinvestment and an infrastructure that can’t cope as well. Still the case unfortunately climate change makes terrible wildfires more likely to happen and more likely to be severe though

where do you get these mad ideas from?

And meantime starving children die. There's a middle course between "years and years of enquiries" and stopping everything, you know.

It's not just Trump, and his extended friends and family. He's a bullying posturing showman that doesn't hold any true convictions but just seeks to distort and manipulate

It's the voice and platform he's giving to more fundamental often Christian nationalists. They feel increasingly emboldened to push reactionary and discriminatory policies at federal and state level.

Trump might not be able to criminalise abortion, reduce LGBT rights, reverse civil rights for monotones, he probably will fail in his bid yo remove birth right citizenship

But he can pack the courts with people that follow a narrow right wing narrative, feed conspiracists and America First zealots. He can drive the selection of pro Trump appointees

He's old. And what he wants most is a legacy. A Trump dynasty. And the Christian right and the disenchanted anti immigration and big government demographic give him that.

From the fact that Trump has been hinting about it since at least 2020?

How does it make them more regular? exacty how?

Less rain, higher temperatures! Obviously.

Needmilkandbread · 09/02/2025 09:05

You talk as if your view is the only right view to hold. Which is typical of people of a left leaning political persuasion. And part of the reason why Americans voted for Trump.

Many Americans were unhappy being told how to live morally, give away their money, make sacrifices for the environment and other countries, and to accept being poorer for a greater good. Trump promised change and is delivering that change, and many votes are delighted.

Over here in the UK, people are wishing we had a leader who was determined to make life better for Brits. Who would stop giving our money away and would stop trying to force us all to be cold and catching buses for the sake of the environment. Distrust and disappointment in government is growing and we are looking at hopefully something fresh in the future.

You can think that’s foolish all you want. It doesn’t matter. I think people who actively want to get poorer for a perceived greater good are foolish too. I’m just happy things are moving in the desired direction.

And ppl think an uber rich bastard and his tech bros are going to stop them from feeling cold? How tragically naive.

Hobbesmanc · 09/02/2025 09:09

@hamstersarse you are correct. He's not been convicted of any sex offence in a criminal trial. Although he lost a civil case. He's also had over thirty allegations of misconduct and assault over several decades.

He was convicted though of 34 felonies relating to the Stormy Daniel's case.

@hamstersarse you said it was a glorious time. How awful that a man so blatantly lacking in any moral authority or integrity is in such a position. Shame on you for condoning it.

No, people don’t set out to vote specifically for a particular individual - the look to give a a chance to people who are not the previous party who proved they weren’t going to make things better, but who did prove they were making things worse.

They chose change.

From Trump himself. Obviously you’ll rubbish the source.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jul/27/trump-speech-no-need-to-vote-future

President Trump has never said this. This is misinterpretation or distortion. Unsurprisingly from The Guardian. Weren’t they all very upset when Trump won the election?

Greenkindness · 09/02/2025 09:17

I think the countries that don’t sign up to net zero should be the ones that take in the people displaced by climate change - climate migrants. Can’t see it though.

Personally, if I was in the US I’d be scared about what President Musk had in store for me next. Let’s hope you aren’t poor or old or disabled or not white.

A criminal conviction requires definitive evidence and proof of wrongdoing beyond a reasonable doubt. In contrast, a civil case is decided based on the balance of probabilities, meaning that it does not require the same level of evidence as a criminal case.

Regardless, many feel that Donald Trump’s history is irrelevant and does not matter when it comes to running a country as is their right. The decision to vote Republican is not based on legal facts it’s based on politics.

You can think that all you want, but they are also the countries that will say no.

And meanwhile here in the UK, we’re trying to save the world. A tiny island by comparison, trying to steamroll towards Net Zero at any expense, knowing it won’t impact outcomes AND! taking in millions of migrants every year.

That’s why America is going to prosper and we are not.

I object to your anti Christian stance

Why do you feel it is acceptable to be so disparaging to Christians?
