Women of MN - What do you like about Trump?

He couldn’t have been voted in without the support of women. As a non-Trump fan myself, I’m wondering what is it you like about him? This applies to non-US voters who favour him and would vote for him if possible.

I feel so sorry for the people who didn’t vote for him, even more-so than the innocent people of Clacton.

flashspeed · 06/11/2024 18:42

I like his stance on immigration and his straight forwardness. The left has gone a bit loony in the past decade and right leaning candidates are appealing to me so they bring some normality back to the world. I'm very pro abortion and have had one myself and disagree with it being banned before 16 weeks but basing a vote around one issue like abortion is stupid to me.

To me, the chances of me needing an abortion to save my life is much lower than me being under threat from an illegal from a violent country, getting shanked by a junkie in a state where drugs are decriminalised or getting shot by a burglar or a mugger if I wasn't allowed to defend myself or having my business or car damaged by rioters which are all things that tend to come along with blue states.

Any evil or harm that would come to women due to an abortion ban if women voted in a party who say wanted a blanket ban on it would still probably be less overall than the harm that would come to us by the issues above so I'd be comfortable still supporting the anti abortion party despite not agreeing with the stance.

I think lots of women like myself want some normality and security vs the current feel good "let's save the world!" stance which makes everything uncertain and dangerous, and I think there's too much social pressure for more women to be loud and out about this stance hence the unexpected amount of women who voted for trump. You see it all of the time if someone says they support the "wrong" party, it's almost a taboo to say it outloud and I find it undemocratic.

They want a daddy.

Ugh this is bringing back unpleasant memories of Tucker Carlson excitedly talking about daddy aka Trump coming home to spank his unruly 15 year old teenage daughter aka America 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

Eww. They call him Cucker Tarlson for a reason. He's Trump's little bitch.

Unfortunately there are no circumstances in which I can be okay with a baby being killed even where the mother’s life is in danger.

@batt3nb3rg you should be ashamed of yourself for this paragraph alone.
I hope you don't have daughters.

We've tried it the liberals way for a long time and too much has got worse. The trans madness, violent cities and uncontrolled immigration has been steps too far for the public.

Wait where have we tried the Liberal way for a long time?
In the UK for the past 15 years? No?
In the US for what 4 years, with the 4 prior ones trump? That's hardly trying anything for any meaningful time.

I voted for him. My hometown is from a place near Springfield Ohio. The resettlement of Haitians has destroyed that town, and other towns near it. Charleroi in PA is a town of maybe 4000 people, had 2000 Haitians dumped on them and is destroying the town. I don’t want this to happen to
my town and I voted accordingly

And this is why we'll end up with Reform in UK

Haven't RTFT but am pleased and relieved he won. Why?

The Dems are deeply infected by the woke trans ideology and Critical Race Theory/DEI. It is extremely damaging for women and children to promote the idea that any man can self ID as woman and invade all women's and girls single sex spaces and sports. DEI promotes mediocrity and is deeply racist. Trump will deal with these ideological beliefs and begin to reverse the damage done. He will reinstate border controls, very important to any country. We only want people who apply legitimately to become citizens. We have a right to vet them all. These the are main reasons.

I think perhaps we should turn this into "why did Kamala Harris not win?". What was so bad about her policies that people voted for Trump instead? To me as an outsider nothing on earth would persuade me to vote for him, but there must be something about her/her party that put people off.

No, that’s deflection. People who didn’t want Harris could have voted for a minor candidate, abstained or spoiled their ballot. A vote for Trump is clearly a vote for Trump, and the question is: why?

What do you believe Trump will do regarding immigration?

Lentilweaver · 06/11/2024 19:21

I am pretty certain Trump will be as effective in reducing immigration as the Tories have been. But we shall see.

She's a black ( American viewpoints) woman and whilst they can accept the black I don't think they're ready for a woman president.

I wonder how that wall is going...

Newsenmum · 06/11/2024 19:26

I am absolutely not a Trump fan, but he publicly stated that he would leave it up to individual states to manage their abortions laws (which although would leave some with very few rights - I guess you could argue that each state can govern how they want to govern? Not my ideal but I can see the logic). It would be like Europe having one leader. We’ve seen how divided the states are and how that doesn’t really work. Also he agrees abortion is allowed with regards to rape, incest and when the woman’s life is in danger. Supposedly.

I actually think the democrats went the wrong way by focussing so much on abortion because people voting Trump clearly didn’t care about that or were accepting of it anyway. People tend to have one issue they’re passionate about and just focus on that. There are clearly so many issues with Trump’s government and concerns people had that they ended up voting for him, that I wish the democrats had focussed more on that!

Newsenmum · 06/11/2024 19:30

Oh and I follow lots of insta mums. Turns out they pretty much all voted Trump (eek). I’ve noticed that a lot of them don’t actually love him but they all have one particular thing they’re focussed on and find him still preferable to what they believe the democrats will do.

I genuinely thought that this was going to be it,it feels quite sad because America one of the biggest democracies in the world has never had a female leader while most of its allies have.

I hope in my lifetime we get to see this but I agree with you for some reason the American people don't feel ready for a female president

How can anyone not recognise the hypocrisy between banning abortions and shooting shop lifters and having the death penalty???

Personally I’m strongly prolife in all situations.

RingoJuice · 06/11/2024 19:31

I fully expect him to revoke TPS status for Haitians as well as other nationalities that fall under those categories. He can do this through executive action on Day 1. Then deportations can start, although the goal should be to get them to self-deport through making employment impossible and cutting eligibility for welfare programs

Aghastohmy · 06/11/2024 19:31

30percent · 06/11/2024 18:09

No thanks I've wasted enough time on previous threads about this, forgot what an echo chamber Mumsnet was. All Ill say is most people on this site have a lot more money than the average person and can afford to live in expensive areas that are completely untroubled by any of the issues with mass immigration, then yall call anyone with a different opinion racists.

This is one of the reasons people vote for people like trump btw

I wasn't going to get drawn into this thread but this is something I've been increasingly angered about. People who, by and large, will be minimally affected by immigration can afford - both physically and metaphorically - to be more open to it, and often confuse other people's resistance to with racism. Same with the Brexit immigration policies. It's easy to be generous and welcoming when it's not your job in the line, it's not your kids missing out because their school is suddenly overcrowded and under resourced, it's not your health services creaking to accommodate swelling numbers in your local area.

Check your privileges, understand that not everyone's life is like yours, especially in a country as vast and polarised as the USA, and then perhaps why Trump received the popular vote won't be so confusing. Even if you don't agree with it, not to try and understand it is wilfully ignorant

soupfiend · 06/11/2024 19:32

I dont know why there is so much angst to try to understand how people get voted in

America was formed by extremists, isolationists, religious zealots. That DNA runs through the place to this day, despite huge influxes of people with other cultures, they all want to be 'american' and all that that entails, a lawlessness if you like but at the same time fans of being controlling of certain things.

It wont change, we wont understand them, many countries around the world are similar, we share nothing with them but unfortunately seem to need to share allyship with america.

Trump has a much better track record on this one tbh.

crumblingschools · 06/11/2024 19:33

I’m wondering whether many voters especially in the poorer areas are like the people here who voted for Brexit who lived in poor areas, hoping that something would improve. But that in reality they will actually end up worse off.

Voters saying they had more money under Trump than they did under Biden and that they will see their income increase again now. Ignoring the pretty much world wide cost of living crisis.
