Dawn Butler racism just fine according to Labour

Well, didn’t take long for labour ministers to show their real beliefs did it. According to Dawn Butler, Kemi Badenoch is “a white supremacist in blackface” (with apologies to all for re-typing her massively offensive words). According to the lovely KS this is all just fine, nothing to see here, move along.

One rule for labour, one rule for everybody else. Again. Last time it was failure to declare gifts. This time it is blatant racism. How hideous this government is and what rank hypocrites.

Dawn Butler must have the whip withdrawn otherwise I don’t want to hear one more word from this racist government.

Are you trying to run the old lefty whatabouterry tactic? We see through you all now. The fog is starting to lift.

Labour aren't good people.

366,000 people are members of the Labour party.
Nearly 10 million people voted Labour at the last election.
There are lots of very good people amongst those groups and many Labour MPs devote their whole careers to working for their communities.

Angela Rayner has to have panic buttons in her family home (she's had death and rape threats) because of the kind of hatred directed towards politicians. This kind of division from either side is harmful to our democracy and gets us nowhere.

It is not explained via a google search @username7891. You’re not shy about posting here so please can you explain why women or people of colour have never been selected as labour leader. I’ll wait.

I'm not here to satisfy your curiosity or do your research.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 04/11/2024 10:26

Aah so you can’t explain it @username7891 Fair enough, it’s really baffling I agree. One might think labour are prejudiced, that’s one possible answer.

This old excuse just highlights that labour have never ever thought that a woman or poc would be the best person for the job. So still hideous.

Ridiculous comment. Would you want a job that was given to you because you had tits? I want the role on my merit. We've just has a speach from the first woman Chancellor.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 04/11/2024 10:28

Big whoop. She has smashed labours glass ceiling to become chancellor, that’s a comparatively low bar for women in policitics in the uk. Doesn’t excuse their record.

Why not? Millions of mediocre men get jobs because they have dicks. A smaller number of mediocre rich men get jobs because they have dicks and went to the right school.

KindQuail · 04/11/2024 10:31

Keir didn't care all that much when Angela Rayner called the conservatives racist, homophobic, misogynistic scum so i'm not surprised.

LizzieSiddal · 04/11/2024 10:31

Dawn Butler isn’t the sharpest tool in the box and her retweet was not advisable.

However as the Tory’s voted for a man who wrote and said many deeply racist comments, to be their leader, and then the country voted for him to be PM, I doubt most people will think Dawns comment is punishable.

I did originally include in my post that this didn't apply to all Labour supporters or indeed all Labour MPs but deleted it for being too long. I will retract that deletion. I fully admit that the Labour movement overall aren't bad people. But Keir Starmer is the current leader of it and all his actions (rather than words) since becoming PM have shown that he has some sort of chip missing. He's making cruel decisions and is favouring one group to the significant detriment of another. He obviously despises certain groups (farmers, pensioners, the middle classes, business owners, young workers, the white working class for example) and has chosen people in his cabinet that share his social world view. This is not a party that rules for the whole country. It is not good for the country.

The Chancellor glass ceiling wasn't a Labour thing. Reeves is the first Chancellor in 800 years regardless of policy.

I suppose a good question to ask really is, which party does most for women and people of colour across the nation in terms of employment law, equality law, and in terms of childcare, opportunity, the environment and health? Also, looking at voting records of parties and MPs - who votes in favour of women's rights and freedoms?

MPs and PMs are the minority of our country. Their actions affect millions of people in all aspects of their daily life.

What Dawn Butler retweeted is not acceptable to me or representative of the way all/many Labour voters think.

She had threats after she called the conservatives racist, homophobic, misogynistic scum and refused to apologise.

She initially refused to apologise then after she had received completely unacceptable threats, she 'reflected on her language' and said she had concerns about abuse featuring too often in political debate and apologised.

It's already been clearly explained to you regarding the amount of female MPs in the cabinet and party and those from ethnic minorities in the party. The evidence is there should you wish to look.

However, the best indicator of prejudice is policy. Could you be so kind as to tell me all the progressive policies introduced by the last Tory government? How have they helped women and other marginalised groups?

Badenoch is keeping her cards close to her chest in that regard. In fact, from what she's said about statutory rights, immigration, race and those with disabilities, she's not particularly progressive. How odd.

Well, she's wasnt in Government when she said it, is not in Government and won't be for 4.5 years so let's see what the current shower come up with. Probably something horrendous on current performance.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 04/11/2024 10:41

Can I clarify I am not in the least suggesting that the majority of labour voters subscribe to Dawn Butler’s horrific view, not at all. But her retweet, and KS’s failure to address such an offensive message brings the government into disrepute.

This is the strangest post on this thread. So you are saying because Boris Johnson wrote something, the Labour Party can be as racist as they like going forward and no one should raise an eyebrow. Because the other boy did it too?

Good to see standards being raised by "the adults being back in the room"(ahem..)

The Labour party as a whole, and its leaders, have acknowledged Kemi's incredible achievement.
Starmer has been pretty quick to deal with Labour MPs who've behaved badly in the past. We'll have to see.

I hope that Kemi will be a force for good. We'll see.

People are saying that it's a bit rich to complain of racism given Johnson's highly offensive homophobic, misogynist, racist and Islamaphobic remarks.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 04/11/2024 10:53

But this thread is about Dawn Butler’s horrific, racist, offensive re-tweet @username7891. You could always start another thread if you want to discuss other people’s remarks, let’s not get distracted from Dawn’s public view.
