Because the unions are traditionally white and male.

Yes they are. And they're not too keen on women either. Those nurses in Darlington who are suing the NHS trust for the fact they have been forced by their employer to get changed for work with a male don't have the support of their union. The unions support the males.

Both Labour and the Unions have a woman problem.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 02/11/2024 12:18

Doesn’t answer the question @Auvergne63 - is it because they are women? I’m confused about the basis upon which you group Badenoch, Braverman and Patel together to single out and criticise in your previous post?

GlobalCitz · 02/11/2024 12:18

I'm delighted!

A politician who thinks children like my non-verbal autistic DD receive "better treatment” and “economic privileges and protections”.

Demonstrates a clear understanding of our educational and health system and the level is common decency and empathy I expect from a public oficial.

Bravo!

Good choice. I like how direct she is.

Yes, I'm interested too, because there have been some very right wing white males in the Tory party that you don't seem to have an issue with?

lifeturnsonadime · 02/11/2024 12:17

I think this thread demonstrates what a good choice she is.

The robust views of the Labour supporters are very telling.

She also makes highlights the Labour Party woman problem. They haven't even managed to vote a woman leader yet let alone a black woman.

Agree

Lol Previous TUC leader was a woman, Frances O'Brady, you sound v ignorant on these matters.

Diorchristian · 02/11/2024 12:21

Agree eastern standard they are walking the walk.

Fgfgfg · 02/11/2024 12:21

Suo · 02/11/2024 11:48

What are those views, please?

Too expensive, too demanding of things like equality and civil rights, too much bureaucracy caused by meeting people's needs such as adjustments in education and workplaces. Maternity pay is too bureaucratic. People need to basically stop whingeing and take more personal responsibility.

Ruddhullettonashed · 02/11/2024 12:22

Suo · 02/11/2024 12:07

I really would like to know what all these vile things she has said/believes are. The only ones I know about are the comments about maternity rights and autistic people, both of which turned out not to be at all what they were reported to be.

I would genuinely like to know how her comments about autistic people have been misunderstood, as currently having someone with those views in such a position of authority is worrying to me.i do mean that genuinely as I would feel much happier if her comments were misunderstood. I read articles like this one and as a parent of an adult with autism, can’t quite believe the ignorance and prejudice on display if this is what she really thinks. www.forbes.com/sites/drnancydoyle/2024/10/15/kemi-badenoch-accidentally-describes-the-social-model-of-disability/

Its so they can pretend they’re not racist etc, its essentially a political version of “but I have a black friend”.

How patronising! A black woman couldn’t possibly get anywhere on their own merits could they.

flyingbuttress43 · 02/11/2024 12:23

Interesting how so many posters are making a big deal of her colour when it seems the least important thing to Kemi.

One union leader of one of the many unions in this country in the history of time has had a woman leader!

Wow. How progressive of them.

The Labour party have NEVER elected a female leader despite having many capable women in leadership contests.

The Unions also fail to support the Darlington 5 preferring to support male sexual harassment rights over women's rights to privacy.

I'm not the ignorant one here : )

username7891 · 02/11/2024 12:24

This is a gift to Labour. Am very pleased.

@showmethegin , she’s entitled to her views and maybe she has a point. Difficult to judge without hearing all the evidence.

How will you know when you've heard all the evidence? At what point will you make a decision?

KnittedMoon · 02/11/2024 11:44

It will be interesting to see if a person accused of creating an intimidating and bullying work environment can build a good team around her.

accused by someone who was evidently on a one year contract and was "let go" because they were making civil servants cry....🤷🏼‍♀️

I can't ever imagine voting Tory - and I'm in my 70's now so not likely to change at this point - but I DO want someone in opposition who can sensibly challenge some of the more bonkers ideas re. gender etc that the Labour Party seems to have adopted. She is definitely the right person for that IMO.

CurlewKate · 02/11/2024 12:25

And to think there were threads saying Labour supporters shouldn't comment on the fact that the person delivering the budget speech was the first woman Chancellor!🤣

1dayatatime · 02/11/2024 12:26

Starseeking · 02/11/2024 11:49

I hate to say it (due to her being a Black woman) but this is such terrible news. Prepare yourselves guys because the UK is about to lurch even further to the right, given the green light by a Black woman #notallskinfolkarekinfolk 😔😔😔

Why does the left always have to see things through the prism of skin colour or sex.

Look if you really don't like her character or actions then that is perfectly fine and democracy allows you to state that.

But why bring her skin colour and sex into the equation- it is really really irrelevant.

Sosijiz · 02/11/2024 12:26

The returning officer said that 40 votes were discounted because two candidates had been voted for. I mean, Conservative members, what is the point?

Sure she will. She's a cognitive giant.

Lonelycrab · 02/11/2024 12:27

They’d have had a far better chance with Cleverly. Badenoch is just another culture wars right winger, they’re making the same mistake again by trying to out-reform the reform party. Their path back to power will be in the centre ground, and she ain’t it.

MSLRT · 02/11/2024 12:28

AmusedMaker · 02/11/2024 11:16

Great to have another female leader.
I wish her all the best.

The Conservative party is certainly proving to be the most diverse. Have Labour ever had a leader who wasn't white and male?
