She repulses me but I’m not quite sure why!

I'm the opposite. I'm centre left but I find her really engaging. I hope she avoids putting her foot in it too often. Her position on gender self ID was spot on and she spoke very eloquently in parliament about it.

What's up with these comments. It's great Kemi has broken a glass ceiling.

Is it a bit too much for some?

Clearly ruffled some feathers somewhere...

I mean I think Labour will lose the next election. They were a protest vote and aren't doing anything to emdear themselves to large swathes of the electorate. And the budget was dumb.

They weren't even a "protest vote". Starmer got a smaller percentage of the vote than Corbyn got last time, so basically barely anyone actively changed their vote for them.

Why they "won" was that the Tory vote collapsed with huge numbers of previous Tory voters changing to Reform or Libdems.

All the Tories need to do is get those disenfranchised voters back, which won't be hard now that Sunak has been ousted, and all Kemi needs to do is make a few "tweaks" to get the Reform defactor voters back.

I saw a poll yesterday showing the Tories are already inching ahead of Reeves/Starmer after the budget fiasco so voters are definitely already heading back!

I don't judge someone by the colour of their skin. You seem to imply that I am racist. Serious accusation. These women have spouted vile rhetoric on a number of issues, trying to outdo each other.

Agree. Not sure why the race thing has been jumped on. It’s about their politics and, as @Auvergne63 rightly says, their vile rhetoric.

She's not been selected because of her personal views or intellectual ability - but more despite of these.

She's been selected by Tufton Street because she attracts attention and is willing to parrot whatever nonsense her handlers tell her to. If a boring grey man like Stride, Tugendhat or Cleverly had been chosen, nobody would have commented on MN or anywhere else. Honest Bob is just a piss-poor Farage tribute act, and Tufton Street already saw that his impact on Reform voters would be minimal.

So they've put Badenoch in place. Her job is to shout angry accusations at Starmer every Wednesday lunchtime for the next 4 years and to put her name to articles in the Mail, Express and Telegraph critical of anything and everything that Labour are doing as they try to clear up the shit-show that they've inherited from the Conservatives.

She's not been selected because of her personal views or intellectual ability - but more despite of these.

What are you claiming about her intellectual ability?

Brananan · 02/11/2024 12:11

Is it just because they are women then?

😂

TempsPerdu · 02/11/2024 12:13

I'm not a Conservative voter (was a Lib Dem member until they went bonkers over gender identity) but I really like her. Don't agree with her on everything (much even), but like her honesty and clarity. It'll be interesting to see how long she lasts, and where where she takes the party.

Driedonion · 02/11/2024 12:13

For all Labour bang on about being representatives of minority, I can’t ever imagine them having a black female leader.

NasiDagang · 02/11/2024 12:13

Biscuitsneeded · 02/11/2024 11:18

Well, at least now they remain utterly inelectable for the foreseeable future...

You sound a bit racist!

ThePinkFrenchFancyPlease · 02/11/2024 12:14

shockeditellyou · 02/11/2024 11:49

I find it really interesting that the right wing, anti immigrant party has a much better track record of putting women, immigrants and minorities into positions of power. Does anyone know why that is?

Because the particular women and immigrants they elect are very happy to take their own privilege, but don’t want to advocate for, and indeed are prepared to demonise, other women and immigrants behind them. Look at her voting record, linked to by a previous poster.

Mittens67 · 02/11/2024 12:14

KB is the perfect illustration that being black and a woman does not necessarily equal empathy.
I still remember her laughing about the suggestion that the government should be working to eradicate the effects of poverty during the covid enquiry.
And although I agree with her view on the biological reality of a woman I will no more align myself with her than I would with Hitler for being a fellow vegetarian.
The tory party panders to further and further right wingers. I can only think more moderate conservatives will defect to lib dems or dare I say it labour.
Farage in a frock has won.

Brananan · 02/11/2024 12:11

Is it just because they are women then?

Really? Lol.

CurlewKate · 02/11/2024 12:14

GoodGollyMsMolly · 02/11/2024 11:34

What is your definition of far right I'm curious?

I didn’t say far right. I said right.

Llhaaf · 02/11/2024 12:15

I really like Kemi. I think she’s an excellent choice. I think she could possibly bring me back to the Conservative Party. Let’s see what happens over the next few years.

Brananan · 02/11/2024 12:15

Driedonion · 02/11/2024 12:13

For all Labour bang on about being representatives of minority, I can’t ever imagine them having a black female leader.

Because the unions are traditionally white and male.

zingally · 02/11/2024 12:15

I've honestly never heard of her, but seeing a black woman in charge of the Tories is quite something! I wish her all the best.

lifeturnsonadime · 02/11/2024 12:17

I think this thread demonstrates what a good choice she is.

The robust views of the Labour supporters are very telling.

She also makes highlights the Labour Party woman problem. They haven't even managed to vote a woman leader yet let alone a black woman.

BlackToes · 02/11/2024 12:17

If I was a Tory voter I’d have voted for her. But I’m not. Now happily awaiting labours mop up of the mess left by the conservatives in regards to nhs and social care

FfsBrian · 02/11/2024 12:17

She fucks white left leaning people off because she doesn't act like what women of colour are supposed to act like - Only women of colour who tow the line are celebrated by the 'be kind ' crew.

She is actually an inspiration to all ethnic kids as to what they can achieve and that the colour of their skin does not determine the levels they can go to if you work bloody hard at it.

So despite not liking her political views people should still be able to admire her. The woman maybe the first female black prime minister. That is quite something.

I like Kemi, she take no prisoners in her speeches, or discussions and shuts fools down quickly. She is a win for the Tories and will embarrass Raynor and the other over at Labour

Alexandra2001 · 02/11/2024 12:17

On abortion & i find this rather worrying.

The Minister of State for Local Government, Faith and Communities - Kemi Badenoch - abstained from parliamentary votes on buffer zones, abortion in Northern Ireland and the decriminalisation of abortion in England and Wales

Even if i was a Con supporter, i wouldn't have chosen her for this reason alone and interestingly, 40,000 Tory members didn't even vote, thats massive.

Rosscameasdoody · 02/11/2024 12:17

NasiDagang · 02/11/2024 12:13

You sound a bit racist!

Nothing to do with race. All about her politics. The more moderate Tories will defect to Labour or Lib Dem. Have a look at her voting record.

catinshorts · 02/11/2024 12:18

Lou7171 · 02/11/2024 11:27

Standing up for women? Are you kidding?

At least she's clear that a woman is an adult human female with XX chromosomes. I'm hoping we'll now see Labour back away from the self-ID/ transgender-people-are-the-most-marginalised-group nonsense and reinforce the rights of women.

MumblesParty · 02/11/2024 12:18

Babadookinthewardrobe · 02/11/2024 11:20

I think they have just made themselves considerably more electable by selecting Kemi.

I reckon if we had an election now, the Tories would get in!

FootbalIslife · 02/11/2024 12:18

I didn’t know much about her, from reading her Wikipedia she seems intelligent and driven… she worked in a McDonald’s, so doesn’t seem like she’s had it all handed to her.
She’s got a masters in engineering, worked in the city and in law… we need a strong opposition so let’s see.
I have voted labour and conservative in the past, and the tories need to get back all the voters who went reform this time, if they have a hope at next election.

EasternStandard · 02/11/2024 12:18

Bananamanlovesyou · 02/11/2024 11:37

She repulses me but I’m not quite sure why!

Really? 'Repulses' is a strong word, why would you go there?
