It is the oldest trick in the book.

Kemi winning is not a 'trick' to do with her ethnicity. She will be the best at holding Starmer to account

You have completely misunderstood what I wrote.
I was responding to the previous poster who suggested to someone that a party who elected a black woman couldn’t possibly be described as extreme right.
I was pointing out that this is exactly what many extreme right parties with racist histories, e.g the Far Right in France do in fact try to say - that they can’t be racist because, look, they have black members. That is the trickery I referred to, nothing at all to do with Kemi Badenoch’s election! Jeez.

Rayner in particular will be so far out of her depth that she'll lose her rag and say something very ill-advised and crass. She won't be able to help it. You mark my words. I can't wait. 😂

You see this is another statement you’ve made that could equally apply to Badenock. They’re incredibly similar in many ways.

A faction within the Tory party has long wanted to pursue ideology and policies which are widely held to be to towards a hard right. This has been discussed for years now and on mainstream media too, it would be hard not to know about this! Truss, Braverman, Badenoch.

Electing a black woman as leader does not preclude any party from moving to an extreme right. The extreme right in France for example has long pointed to black people in their party as if to say ‘ see, we can’t be a racist party’. It is the oldest trick in the book.

Or maybe she won because she’s unashamedly conservative and won members over?

Whats extraordinary is how much this has brought out the racists on the left and the right. There are people on twitter that they’ll never vote for a nigerian, here it’s a “she’s a token” and dawn butler has called her a white supremicist in blackface. Jesus fucking christ the racism spillith over. People aren’t even trying to hide it.

I wish I could agree with you. But I honestly doubt Rayner can come with anything even remotely clever.

She thinks calling voters scum is a good retort.

@Understairscupboard

"They always said the choices they would have to make would be difficult.
People aren't going to like that until they see some benefits.
If the benefits don't come/aren't apparent then I agree with you - things will look shaky."

The budget pushed tax rises and debt increases as far as they could without suffering a full Liz Truss reaction.

This means that there is very little scope for further tax rises or debt increases over the next four years. The tax increases on business will also stifle economic growth.

So combine that with unrealistic high expectations of improving the economy and lives of ordinary people then I think you are going to get a lot of angry voters at the next election and a lurch to the left (Labour weren't left wing enough) and to the right (Labour was too left wing).

The tories are not far right, have you seen the immigration numbers!? We used to actually be able to identify the far right but now everything is far right.

They want immigration in order to keep wages low. That's why immigration went up under the Tories.

This is hilarious. I love the mental gymnastics used to justify her views.

yes but did you though? Did you read the unedited full version of what she actually said? Weirdly you responded to the question without actually answering the question. Why is that?

The vast majority of economic immigrants to the UK are under 30. Vanishingly few are over 40 - so the bulk of them will have contributed to our society for 30 plus years before they start to need those things.

The truth is, we need workers. We have nearly a million unfilled job vacancies in this country. The cost to the economy is huge.

Are you really sure you understand the difference between economic migrants and asylum seekers?

Unless they get signed off sick or won’t actually earn enough and so will end up with UC. Being young may not be a good thing, they then have children that require maternity care, maternity pay, social care, child benefit, a free nursery place and a free education. Free dental care - I could go on and on.

Not to mention the acute housing crisis.

Understairscupboard · 02/11/2024 20:48

@EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime What a dreadful way to speak about a hard working woman who, whatever you think of her politics, has devoted her whole working life to public service.

Elizabeth to Liz is not the same as the shortening of a non white name. Maybe you should sit down and have a drink and let the adults speak. Your response is exactly the type of response I would expect from a Kemi/Suella/Priti wannabe or the "I have black friends brigade".

Erm I’m not white and we regularly have nicknames in my family. I have never referred to my siblings by their actual names. It’s usually a shortened version or a play on their name, I don’t call my DD by her full name. It’s completely normal.

The reaction is genuinely shocking, I was genuinely pleased that she was chosen as I think she was the best candidate based on her character and actions and where her skin colour was completely irrelevant.

Sadly on this thread and particularly from the left the racism is blatant.

We need more children. The UK birth rate is through the floor. Immigrants having children - the taxpayers of the future - is a positive, not a negative.

No it's not. It would not be like Britain then. It would be full of other cultures and nationalities

I am not even going to reply to you until you can bloody stop with your nasty digs, deliberately misspelling Kemi’s surname. I see exactly what you do, it’s old, done too many times. Its racist and you need to stop.

Ok, I’m obviously not making myself clear here as people are completely misunderstanding what I am saying.

I’ll have one more go, then I’ll give up

In a previous conversation with another poster, someone said you couldn’t describe a party which has elected a black woman as extreme right.

I responded by observing that the extreme right often say ‘ we can’t be racist, we have black members’ When in fact, the extreme right has a history of racist views.

Staggeringly, for mentioning this, I’ve been told I sound racist! Which I have to say, as a lifelong, very active anti racism campaigner, really hurts. But maybe I wasn’t clear?! Oh well.
