Don’t think so. We’ve all had a belly full of how the Tories elect their leaders.

Well today they announced a change in the way they get rid them. Doesn't exactly show a lot of confidence in their new leader.🫣

LBFseBrom · 02/11/2024 15:30

Good luck to her. I hope she will be good and not too Tory.

Nice to have a prominent woman again. I don't know that much about her and will look her up.

user1984455 · 02/11/2024 15:31

It's awful!

What she said about maternity pay and children with autism is really shocking. Worried about her policies if she's elected in 5 years time.

Who are you referring to?

Nice try, well done.

Vaxtable · 02/11/2024 15:09

I assume you mean the Tories, do you remember 14 years ago when Labour left the country bankrupt and someone has had to try and sort it? Same thing that will happen in 5 years, if they last that long

You conveniently forgot the £40bn black hole the Tories left this time around.

Do you know that The Son of A Toolmaker was made leader of the Labour party with 56% of the vote?

Kemi received 57% of the vote to be Conservative leader.

So, you and other posters like you, who are sneering that she did not get everyone's vote and won't therefore to be able to unite the Conservative Party, must also accept that by your own reasoning, The Son of a Toolmaker, has even less right to lead the Labour Party.

Kemi got a bigger share of the vote to lead her party than the Son of a Toolmaker got to lead Labour.

I'll get the popcorn while you twist and quiver, explaining that it is not the same thing at all!😂

Great post.

Some highlights from her voting history :

Generally voted against fewer obstacles for access to abortion
Consistently voted against improving environmental water quality
Consistently voted against improving air quality
Generally voted against measures to prevent climate change
Consistently voted against improving biodiversity
Voted for mass surveillance of people’s communications and activities
Consistently voted against stronger fire safety measures
Consistently voted against landlords paying for the costs of building safety works
Generally voted for increasing the state pension age
Almost always voted against a right to remain for EU nationals already in living in the UK
Consistently voted for higher taxes specifically to fund health and social care
Consistently voted against higher taxes on banks

but I guess she knows what a woman is so that makes it ok…

Such a 'progressive' track record of voting, as expected!

People just seem to talk nonsense about her being progressive and strong after swallowing whatever The Daily Mail and Telegraph publish. All they can do is regurgitate some headlines. It's sad.

I see that too. And its needed.

Thatcher is indeed her role model.
I am old enough to remember (albeit from France) the damage (still felt today) she did to Great Britain. Selling out to the highest bidder anything she could. The UK is owned by foreign companies who do not care about the people they rip off.

For example, take EDF, owned by the French state, is making vast profits for the benefit of the French, who pay far less for their electricity than in the UK.
I won't go on about the way she used the police as her private army during the miners' strike. I could go on.
If Badenoch aspires to be like her, well ....

This is absolutely correct.
Thatcher sold everything to the highest bidder and has devastated the UK, 40/50 years later. The chickens have come home to roots, especially following the GFC. It's tragic that many people on the right of politics still think she is a figure to try to emulate and that talking about being 'strong' or 'speaking their mind' or dressing up in a pussy bow blouse is suddenly going to restore the UK's economic fortunes.

goawaynottoday · 02/11/2024 15:39

I wonder how many of the people who voted for her know her full name is Olukemi Olufunto Adegoke Badenoch, it seems a bit too progressive for them compared to Robert Jenrick.

She was also conveniently absent during all votes related to gay rights and same sex marriage

Didn’t happen. Astonishing how bad people’s memories are.

Kemi Badenoch elected as Tory leader

So would knowing her full name have changed people's vote?
Do you think people would have voted for Starmer knowing his middle name is Rodney?
Do people vote on names or merit?

LyndaLaHughes · 02/11/2024 15:44

The Tories love nothing more than a person of colour they can roll out to parrot all the abhorrent views they have on people of colour and disabled people under cover of "well it's ok if a brown person says it". Same with Suella Braverman. There are both vile. Kemi's comments on disabled people, different cultures and mental health were despicable. But I'm delighted that she who became working class when working in McDonald's (typical Tory so out of touch as to say something so pig ignorant) has triumphed as hopefully it makes them even more unelectable than ever.

Llhaaf · 02/11/2024 15:45

I only hope that Kemi promotes a more sensible approach to reaching Net Zero. Milliband is going to ruin us.

NetZeroZealot · 02/11/2024 15:45

The only good thing about her is she’s Black and female.
Her politics is monstrous.
Particularly on climate change & immigration (but so was Jenrick).

Did you skip most of the thread ;

Not sure about this supposed delight but I can see many are pleased it’s Kemi as she’ll be good.

I wasn't talking about the thread 😂, I was talking about the polling among Tory voters in the rest of the country. KB has been a fairly consistently unpopular choice throughout.

Exactly. The McDonalds/ working class comment was particularly hilarious!

For what it's worth, I also think a strong opposition is important and I think she will certainly be that, and take no prisoners.

It will be a long time before I forget her wiping the floor with Kate Osborne at the Women and Equalities Committee.

"Kemi Badenoch: Right. What she has said is not true. It is not true, and we have to use facts in this room. We can't just make stuff up. This is what I am talking about.
^^
Kate Osborne: Well, I absolutely agree with you. I just don't think that your facts necessarily—
^^
Kemi Badenoch: When was that statement made? And where?
^^
Kate Osborne: This is the Government’s own data.
^^
Kemi Badenoch: No, no, no. You said I used the word disease. When?

Kate Osborne: I don't know. Did you? [😂]

Kemi Badenoch: Of course, I didn't. You don't even know where that came from. Where did you get that from? Where did you get that from?

Kate Osborne: [pause] I'm not here to answer your questions. [😂]

Kemi Badenoch: Because you don't know. It is not true. And you should not be saying that in this Committee when you do not know where that statement came from. [...] We have to do better than this."

In an ideal world I’d like the whole Net Zero thing to be thrown out. We are spending billions on making no difference. We’ll all be poorer for no reason. It’s a crazy policy and I hope the opposition will push for a more sensible approach (ie push it back…far back).

Good. We are too broke to spend a fortune on climate issues and it's making us even less competitive in the global market. And I have sympathy for immigration but too many asylum seekers are coming here.
