Actually, there are big similarities between them. That’s why we will see more of Rayner.
Both very clear strong speakers and the kind of woman that men tell to shut up.

Angela Rayner? Clear strong speaker?

rainingsnoring · 02/11/2024 14:44

Pipsquiggle · 02/11/2024 14:26

Nope I am comparing their politics - playing to their party faithful and completely missing the masses in the centre. As soon as Jeremy was announced as leader I knew Labour would not be elected with him in charge.

Jeremy was too left wing for most people. Kemi is too right wing for most people.

Also why do people conflate talking confidently with intelligence and competence? Have we learnt nothing from BoJo?

I do think it's great that a black woman is leader of a Westminster party and I do hope she forms an effective opposition

Edited

Yes, she's probably too far right far the more centrist, long standing Tory voters. A lot of those more on the right will very likely stick with voting Reform, as they can see that the Tory party has been a huge failure and Demi and Jenrick were both part of that failure. Let's see if she can unite the Tory party.

What? Raynor and I have mirrored lives. Same up bringing. But she is embarrassing when she speaks. I cringe as this women is supposed to represent me

It's actually pretty ironic the you equate the fact that she is woman and black with 'progressive and the change our country needs'? Your comment is racist, sexist and ageist, against Corbyn as well (he was late 60s when he ran for the PM job). Whatever you think about Corbyn's politics, he is a principled man and absolutely did given the option of a change for UK politics. What change has Kemi suggested? Reducing maternity leave for women, I guess. Yes, definitely ironic.
Just in case you assume that I am left wing/ support Labour, I am not and do not so don't bother with that particular insult.

Kemi’s views ARE progressive and she IS proposing change thank goodness! Not because of her colour but due to the fact she is a proper conservative!
You sound bitter and jealous. As you should be.

The response from Labour voters is good, for sure. Excellent result.

Did you skip most of the thread ;

Not sure about this supposed delight but I can see many are pleased it’s Kemi as she’ll be good.

Cornflakes44 · 02/11/2024 14:46

@JaneEyreLaughing sorry I forget. Yes she's also racist,

FfsBrian · 02/11/2024 14:46

I've just been watching her accept the position. She is a fantastic speaker and its the first time I've been excited in a long time.

Well done Kemi!!

Exactly which of her views are progressive? The one on cutting maternity leave that I mentioned? That's bound to help women and families right?

I just knew that you would resort to personal insults. I guess you wanted to say something intelligent but failed!

It’s electric isn’t so different from the robotic empty vessel speeches Starmer delivers.

BIossomtoes · 02/11/2024 14:47

she IS proposing change

Is she? How would you know? She’s yet to articulate a single policy.

1dayatatime · 02/11/2024 14:49

"You mean Americans? Some would say their culture has some positives but I see what you mean."

I would definitely say that the practice of child marriage is not as culturally valid as that in the UK regardless of where in the world it occurs.

You can either agree with this position in which case you agree with KB or disagree with her in that you do believe child marriage is culturally valid.

So what is it?

You should start listening to radio 4 and her interviews. I was very inspired by her clarity and eloquence.

Seems like both Labour voters and Conservative voters are pleased!

Don't forget those of us who don't vote for either party.Grin

It IS progressive that a women of colour could be our next PM - and I am here for that!

Cope harder!

Drinkdrinkduuurink · 02/11/2024 14:51

She comes across as very tough, Thatcheresque dare I say.

The Tories have had four female leaders, Labour none. Quite amazing considering how each party is perceived .

It is not at all progressive if her policies are the opposite.
You and the hedgehog poster are making fools of yourself by being unable to discuss her allegedly progressive policies and resorting to being rude.

No doubt labours next leader will be the geezer dressed in sparkles telling us he knows more about women’s lives than we do. It’s all just fake, the woke agenda, the whole she bang.

Ah there we go - its only progessive if she is black with left leaning views...

These right wing BAME women just dont know their place do they......

And yes I am being sarcastic

@Todaywasbetter
@Llhaaf

"Angela is the opposite of Kemi. Looks bizarre, is as clear as mud and always comes across as either aggressive or confused. Or both. It’s embarrassing to watch."

"Actually, there are big similarities between them. That’s why we will see more of Rayner.
Both very clear strong speakers and the kind of woman that men tell to shut up."

I can see the point here. Many people voted Labour in the basis "they can't be any worse than the Tories ", but over the next five years will become increasingly frustrated (not moving quickly enough) or angry (too left wing).

Come 2029 I can see a further shift to the left under Rayner and a further shift to the right under Badenoch.
