Don’t you see the irony in comparing a strong intelligent woman of colour with an old washed up white man of privilege claiming HE is progressive and the change our country needs!
Its bonkers

Labour are so envious and are praying she won’t be be leading for the GE. She absolutely will. 💪🏽

Nope I am comparing their politics - playing to their party faithful and completely missing the masses in the centre. As soon as Jeremy was announced as leader I knew Labour would not be elected with him in charge.

Jeremy was too left wing for most people. Kemi is too right wing for most people.

Also why do people conflate talking confidently with intelligence and competence? Have we learnt nothing from BoJo?

I do think it's great that a black woman is leader of a Westminster party and I do hope she forms an effective opposition

AGameOfPatience · 02/11/2024 14:28

Whatever your political persuasion, Labour's lack of female or ethnic minority leaders is becoming more and more embarrassing by comparison.

Genuinely, what is going on there?

You are right to be worried.

When did I say I was worried? Au contraire, I’m delighted.

Anyone noticed that the Labour leaders are all white men? Just saying...

JRSKSSBH · 02/11/2024 14:29

Brananan · 02/11/2024 11:45

Yep. Their quite frankly weird budget will not have helped them.

Mario Draghi (that intellectual colossus) is quoted in the FT today praising its “interesting ideas” to boost growth-producing investment. Ha, a man who wouldn’t know growth if it kicked him in the heads.

Times notes that taxpayers will contribute £14 billion in enviro levies by 2029. So, how rich do we think Dale Vince will get (given that he runs an enterprise supported by levies, grants and tax payer handouts) and how much of that cash will he donate to Labour?

Hidden racism covered up with a fake woke agenda that benefits white men mainly.

Looks like the Tory party themselves are a bit concerned that their psychodrama isn't behind them.🫣😆

Oh FGS. 🙄

The poster before you is right. KB will not be making any kind of deal at all about being a Black woman. She's likely to avoid making it A Thing.

KB is known for having little time for critical race theory, or Black people claiming that there is any societal infrastructure that is not completely equally balanced between white people and people of colour.

She sort of doesn't believe that racism exists in the UK in 2024.

Starseeking · 02/11/2024 14:34

@1dayatatime her sex and skin colour will give her passage to do and say things a white man could not, and still be palatable to the masses.

In my view both are extremely relevant.

I think this is the Tory equivalent of Jeremy Corbyn winning the labour leadership

Due to their own stupidity and trying to play the system, the most electable person for the job, James Cleverly, didn't get to the last 2. The Tories did this to themselves.

Again, James Cleverly, the man who joked about drugging his wife. Hilarious in view of recent events ...not.

ForThisNow · 02/11/2024 14:35

BIossomtoes · 02/11/2024 14:18

she is strong, intelligent and has the backing of the whole party.

Half of the parliamentary party voted for her opponent. 🤷‍♀️

And most polls of non-party member Tory voters show her to be the least popular choice.

The Tory party have brilliantly elected a leader who even Tory voters don't like very much. They NEARLY voted for the one leader who might have posed a threat in a future election - Cleverly - but thankfully, they managed to fuck that up.

I don't like their divisive rhetoric on immigration and their attempt to create a them and us mentality. I judge a politician on their words, not on the colour of their skin or their gender. Does that clarify it for you?

Not really. There are plenty of male politicians guilty of the same but for some reason you don’t include them in your criticisms.

SundayBloodySunday · 02/11/2024 14:36

@GoodGollyMsMolly
Oh you're a Muslim who agrees with Kemi. So that makes it ok to be racist then. 🙄

The response from Labour voters is good, for sure. Excellent result.

I hope she can be strong in holding the Labour Government to account. My initial feeling is she was the best candidate in that regard. It is extremely important, for everyone, left and right, that that happens. I never felt the Labour Party in opposition did that job well.

I agree with this.

A strong opposition is importabt and labour were not a strong opposition party

Llhaaf · 02/11/2024 13:26

Angela is the opposite of Kemi. Looks bizarre, is as clear as mud and always comes across as either aggressive or confused. Or both. It’s embarrassing to watch.

Actually, there are big similarities between them. That’s why we will see more of Rayner.
Both very clear strong speakers and the kind of woman that men tell to shut up.

Harvestfestivalknickers · 02/11/2024 14:40

Seems like both Labour voters and Conservative voters are pleased!

It's actually pretty ironic the you equate the fact that she is woman and black with 'progressive and the change our country needs'? Your comment is racist, sexist and ageist, against Corbyn as well (he was late 60s when he ran for the PM job). Whatever you think about Corbyn's politics, he is a principled man and absolutely did given the option of a change for UK politics. What change has Kemi suggested? Reducing maternity leave for women, I guess. Yes, definitely ironic.
Just in case you assume that I am left wing/ support Labour, I am not and do not so don't bother with that particular insult.
