100%

On what basis the fact people have forgotten what the stae of this bloody country is in after 14 years of tories. Maybe your life hasn't been affected and this is the problem here but towns near me have no social care town looks terrible as lack of infrastructure etc. Selfish atseholes that don't see this

Coralsunset · 02/11/2024 12:40

As a Labour voter I am very very happy with this outcome.

MorrisZapp · 02/11/2024 12:40

I'm Scottish and once had a client called Mrs Badenoch. She took grave offence when I pronounced the first syllable as 'bad'.

'It's bine-yoch! Don't you know about the Wolf of Bine-yoch!'

So it's in my blood now. She's Kemi Bine-yoch.

IKEAJesus · 02/11/2024 12:40

RinklyRomaine · 02/11/2024 12:01

Pregnant...people? No wonder you're not keen.

What’s wrong with the use of people in the context that poster used it? She was referring to people who are disabled, pregnant or autistic. Yes, only women can be pregnant, but anyone can be the other two.

D23456789 · 02/11/2024 12:41

I am not a fan of Kemi but I hope she can hold the Labour Government to account. Regardless of political affiliation, I think it is important that we have a strong opposition who can challenge Labour. PMQ's will be interesting.

FfsBrian · 02/11/2024 12:41

Llhaaf · 02/11/2024 12:38

Absolutely. I abstained from the last election. I was so angry with the Conservatives. I thought they deserved to loose and I couldn’t have cared less who got in. DH still voted conservative as he felt that the economy was back on track and he didn’t want to risk that.

However, our growing economy has now slowed and Labour has done what they always do and what I thought they wouldn’t do…increase taxes and borrowing. I don’t know why I’m so surprised.

My mil is a staunch Labour voter, and even though she’s just lost her winter fuel allowance and is poorer for it, she maintains that she is glad “rich people aren’t having it anymore”, which strikes me as ridiculous. Rich people aren’t going to miss it. They aren’t out there mourning it, about to struggle. …She is. Her tiny widows pension has taken her just over the limit. She’s broke.

MiL lives by the viewpoint that rather than everyone benefit from a policy, nobody should. If nobody benefitting means people wealthier than her are disadvantaged. She thinks Labour are doing HER a favour by taking away from richer people Ha! Even though she loses out too. I personally just don’t get it.

So she’s still happy with her choice. My husband has told her not to come to us for help. That this is what she wanted. We are not made of money, so she can reap the benefits of her vote.

Perhaps after this year, she’ll change her mind too.

Same here. Starmer is a raging communist - he went to a bloody training camp when he was in his 20s

Watched a docu last night about stalins Communism last night and i was filled with dread

SundayBloodySunday · 02/11/2024 12:42

Actually, this really upsets me. Both candidates were awful and it's terrible for the nation if we have a poor opposition. Tory's should hang their head in shame. Where have all the normal, not far right bordering on extremist Tory's gone.

I was a trade union rep for many years, I’m am overall a centrist, it did mean I got to hang out with many on the left. They became trade union reps to push their own political agendas and it was very much less about their specific workforces. The men were overall very misogynistic and as a woman who isn’t white I was pushed from within to stand as some sort of figurehead so I get why people may assume this of Kemi. The left banging on about all Conservatives being racist, that’s a very foolish and dangerous narrative. Even Reform have some non white supporters and even had some candidates stand who were not white.

DojaPhat · 02/11/2024 12:43

This is a wonderful move. It gives the tories 5 years to get their house in order, reflect, reconsider and rebrand to emerge renewed. She's the perfect placeholder in the meantime. She'll be out before the general election. Not because of her policies or thinking around any particular area - but because even if she offered everyone a £500 bonus on their birthday each year before the next election, and basically closed the borders to anyone who hitherto didn't have European ancestry (ancestry, not citizenship) - she still won't be voted in.

Because the tory party is now like the republicans in America. Liz channey in usa now gonna vote demicrat as a lifelong republican because of what uou said. These two parties have been infiltrated bu the extremists like trump and these lot but so many can't see that

They all got got booted out of the of party by Johnson for opposing his Brexit deal. That’s what’s finished the party off.

LadyofRutshire · 02/11/2024 12:44

I think the Conservatives have made the right decision voting Kemi in. She appears to be a strong leader. The next few days will be interesting as she lays out her path for both the Conservatives and the next GE.

However, I generally have no confidence in politics as party leaders/PM's and FM's (I am in Scotland) change at the drop of a hat these days.

I thought she gave a good speech today and reminded me in some ways of Thatcher.

It will be interesting to see how things go and I am definitely looking forward to PM's questions.

I don't think Starmer is the right person to lead Labour, as he is weak, but what is done is done.

I agree with pp that the Conservatives are as they have shown by actions and not words the most diverse and progressive party.

"Because the unions are traditionally white and male."

Except:

The UK's largest union, Unison, whose leader is Christina McAnea
or the second largest, Unite, whose leader is Sharon Graham.

Or the Public and Commercial Services Union - Fran Heathcote
Or the RCN - Nicola Grainger
Or the transport union TSSA - Maryam Eslamdoust
Or the University and College Union - Jo Grady

Completely irrelevant but once I had a client called Mr Cockburn.

Apparently, it’s pronounced Co-burn.

A smattering of casual racism appears to already be showing its ugly face on some of these posts.

Its subtle, but its there.

"Nobody says that you really haven't got a fucking clue the fact is in the uk and usa there are some with privilege which makes it easier for them . It means that some people have yo work harder to get their place but everyone should work hard but if you already up the ladder in terms of privilege you have it easier. Why can't you guys get that "

Clearly I can understand that if you are already up the ladder then it is a damn sight easier to stay there or even go higher up than if you are starting out from the bottom- but this has got stuff all to do with skin colour and everything to do with the fact that there are people in the country who are very well off, a bunch in the middle and some who are right at the bottom. As it happens KB came from a quite well off family.

The PP stating that the only reason KB got the job was so that the Conservative Party could claim not to be racist rather than her character and actions is really offensive.

You r wrong yes there are poor white folk like me but systematically there had been alot more so in usa of systemic racism that had hold black people back. In usa more black men in prison and yet on the same crimes committed they get longer sentences then alot kf white counterparts that is fact. Black women more likely to die in childbirth again fact maybe related to poverty again from what. It can't be discounted no matter how many want to
