If labour wins the next GE are they likely to overturn the ban on puberty blockers and disregard the Cass Report?

I want to vote for them but I'm so scared they will jump straight on the bandwagon and risk our kids safety. And women's.

How sad is it that the first page of any biology book in creation is now subject to debate.

"There are men and there are women"

It's a sad state of affairs and quite frankly I find it embarrassing.

It's utter nonsense.

But don't forget that over 50% of the population are below average intelligence. Maybe that has some bearing on the no 'debate'.

5GreenLeaves · 21/04/2024 17:40

Even the basis of this whole thing PROVES sex is binary.

You transition from one to another.

Because there are 2.

Or you feel like your gender isn't related to either BINARY SEX... so you identify as 'non BINARY'

See, non binary... Because sex is binary.

It really is quite astonishing, isn't it?

I don't think they'll reverse the decisions made as a result of the Cass report. Although they have a few MPs who would like to.

I think they will make it easier to get GRC.

And this is pure speculation but my guess regarding their plan for spaces would be to create a two tier system, where the single sex spaces people use day to day, such as toilets and changing rooms, will be based on legal sex (so women plus men with GRC) and spaces that are used by fewer people in more extreme circumstances (such as prisons and rape crisis centres) will be still be permitted to be purely based on biological sex. This would create a increase in the number of GRCs applied for under the new streamlined system. And in practice providers would have to assume that any male wanting to use a female space is probably entitled to because GRCs will be more common. But I'll be more than happy for this to be proved wrong when they publish their manifesto.

I think you are right and I think it will be helpful for them to say that because it will enable a conversation about where the line is.
I've thought for a while there is nothing to be gained from debating definition of woman. We need to be debating specific scenarios.
I personally would be very unhappy with TW in gym/swimming pool changing rooms, because of the communal undressing element.

Cubicle changing rooms/public toilets, I'm OK with. Other women won't be.

AdamRyan · 21/04/2024 17:41

It's still irrelevant to OPs question though

@5GreenLeaves Men in transition have used women's facilities without complaint for as long as I've been adult - well over 40 years.

Self ID is just about paperwork. There's no evidence in countries that have it of it being abused to access women's spaces.

What a load of SHIT. Seeing as crime stats would record assaults and attacks as women's crimes, with no mention of them actually being male/trans, OF COURSE THERE WOULD BE NO BLOODY "EVIDENCE".

Not being arsed to collect data correctly is not the same as it not happening.

And there is data, in this country that men will assault women and girls in mixed sex places such as family changing rooms, more than they could in strictly single sex places.

NoWordForFluffy · 21/04/2024 17:45

Other women won't be.

And they're the ones whose opinions should count. Same as where one in a couple wants a(nother) child. The one who's against is the one who takes precedence.

Women's right to single-sex spaces shouldn't be given away if not ALL women are in agreement they should be. Another space needs to be found for mixed sex facilities.

Sadly for you this is a democracy not a marriage and everyone's opinions are equally valid. Even if they disagree with you.
You can cast your vote come the election same as everyone else.

As I said upthread I'm not debating GC stuff.

I guess when you can't answer basic questions (because there are no answers) no debate is the only response.

Anyway, I have no desire to hang around and be insulted on yet-another-trans thread. Although kudos to OP for a slightly more unusual thread title than normal.

You're contrary for the sake of being contrary goady aren't you?

It's clear you don't give a shit about women who CANNOT use mixed sex facilities.

What you fail to realise is that it won't stop at toilets (which magnanimous you is happy with). It'll be everything, including changing rooms. Then what will you do? Boo hoo will be too late then, won't it? 🙄

I've thought for a while there is nothing to be gained from debating definition of woman.

Of course you don't Adam.

That's because you think some men are women and should be in women's single sex spaces in some circumstances. You are an activist for these men.

lifeturnsonadime · 21/04/2024 17:55

With regards to what I think Labour will do, I just don't have a clue. I'd like to believe Wes Streeting's reverse ferret but Labour's proposed ban on all forms of conversion therapy doesn't sit neatly with Cass if it bans talking therapy for gender questioning vulnerable children.

Would be really nice if there could be some clarity on this.

And that Labour will protect women's single sex spaces and confirm that, given the demonstrable harms to women, that it will take steps to repeal the laws it enacted that enables Starmer to be legally correct when he states that some women have penises.

Laws can be overturned. Labour just don't want to do it.

5GreenLeaves · 21/04/2024 17:55

I've thought for a while there is nothing to be gained from debating definition of woman.

Gosh how very lucky of you to just be able to stop caring ad walk away from the debate and not have to worry about it anymore.

I wish women could do that but unfortunately we can't because... You know, the very real risk of assault and such.

But thrilled that you don't feel unsafe around other men. Lovely for you.

Self ID will create a culture where ANY man can enter woman only spaces for ANY reason

He wont even have to self ID himself a GRC as we aren't allowed to ask about it anyway.

He literally just has to say the words "I'm a woman" or "I identify as a woman" and this MUST be accepted.

I mean, we're pretty much there already tbf. But legal self ID will just make it even harder to push back.

So yes, it's dangerous.

There's a new Hate Crime law in Scotland which attempts to address this. I would never want anyone in any space 'to get battered'. But I want my Dd to be in safe single sex spaces as she is vulnerable (ASD, semi verbal).

My feminism is intersectional thank you.

i didn’t come here to discuss that though.

Intersectional feminism is supposed to be inclusive of ethnic minority women, same sex attracted women, disabled women, immigrant women, homeless women, women who are victims of male violence.

These are the women who are most severely affected by the loss of single sex spaces.

It was never supposed to be inclusive of male people.

  1. I'm a woman
  2. I know which is what makes it double hilarious when some posters (not you) claim I'm a TRA/Labour bot etc.

You are a TRA adam, you are not worried about the definition of woman. You said so on here.

This is because you believe that some males should be in some women's single sex spaces, even when you know that this is against the wishes of many women and displaces vulnerable women who cannot be in spaces with those males.

Amusing but best ignored except for entertainment value.
