anyone seen starmer?

From what I can see, after his entirely unconvincing "position" on gaza he has essentially disappeared from view. Blair notoriously used to do this a lot when he wanted to avoid legitimate questions, leaving brown nosing slaves to face questions from the proles.
So over to the mnet net, which I know has wise tentacles everwhere
Has the famous SIR dropped into your church fete/tombola recently? Selfies welcome.

I have no idea where to vote in the next election.
Starmer was interviewed on tv a few weeks ago and asked what Labour’s stance was on the GP’s strike and he replied that it was the Government’s problem and refused to provide any alternative plan when Labour came into Government. How can I vote for a party who can’t give me any clue about what they would do when they were elected?

sunshinesupermum · 20/12/2023 19:11

Starmer won't say what he'll do when Labour are in office until the run up to the General Election. Don't blame him. Why give Sunak his ideas? At least that's my thinking. Did Tony Blair give away his ideas before he became PM in 1997? It's so long ago that I can't remember!

would you buy a pie without knowing what was in it?
Does Keir actually have any ideas?

Labour is not in power and they are not in an election campaign. Your ire is better directed at the Tories who should sort out the pay disputes and foreign policy, and you know, do some governing.

and Labour as the government in waiting/supposedly alternative government would govern how?
when are they going to give the proles a clue?
I don't expect much from the Tories/never have - I doubt they would respond to my "ire".
Better to look forward/for an alternative I think.
Which is potentially very close at hand.
But what will that alternative be?

As for foreign policy, the tories actually seem ahead of Starmer on Gaza at the moment.
When is Starmer going to resurface and give us the benefit of his latest thoughts?
Still interested in any selfies with him.
Still seems elusive.
Maybe he's working on his Christmas broadcast?

The election could be a year away. Why does he have to reveal his hand this early.

He managed to reveal his hand on the Trans issue. He must think misogyny it is super important.

Houseplanter · 21/12/2023 13:43

I agree he's disappeared.

Great isn't it.

MissyB1 · 21/12/2023 13:47

I’ve just read on BBC news app that Starmer would support a change in the law on assisted dying, which is good news as far as Im concerned.
I’m interested as to why a pp said Sunak is ahead of Starmer on Gaza, how exactly? Has Sunak agreed to call for an immediate ceasefire?

Freddiefan · 21/12/2023 14:07

I don’t support any political party but am interested in Reform.
Many of you on here will be too young to remember ‘the winter of discontent’.
My OH was in the forces and returned from abroad to be put on standby to drive a Green Goddess as the firemen were on strike.

I’m trying to remember the rest. The binmen were also on strike and the local football fields were covered in smelly rubbish. It was chaos and I think Labour were in charge then.

BeadedBubbles · 21/12/2023 14:16

He's visiting British troops at a NATO base in Estonia at the moment. And making positive noises about assisted dying. I'm sure he's doing plenty other stuff too.

CurlewKate · 21/12/2023 14:31

@Offwiththecircus

He was in the House last week. Presumably he's now home with his family for Christmas.

Incidentally, why Sir in capitals?

You're referencing 1979!?
Junior doctors and nurses are on strike. Train drivers are on strike (still). Airport workers have been on strike this year. Who's in charge now
Ever heard of the Miner's Strike? Who was in charge then.

CurlewKate · 21/12/2023 15:25

@Offwiththecircus

If I knew how to add pictures, I'd add one of Starmer visiting NATO troops in Estonia this morning.

Incidentally, why SIR in caps?

CurlewKate · 21/12/2023 15:35

@Freddiefan You don't have to go back to 1979 to find strikes. You do to find ones under a Labour government, though.🤣

CurlewKate · 21/12/2023 15:38

@Freddiefan Reform? Richard Tice and Ann Widdecombe?

Peasand · 21/12/2023 15:54

Interesting that Labour are keeping quiet about Kemi , probably hoping that she’ll sort it out for them .

CurlewKate · 21/12/2023 16:06

@Peasand - what will Kemi sort out for Labour?

And flying on Ryanair to boot.

Women’s rights to single sex spaces and safe guarding for children and vulnerable adults.

you make him sound like a poker player (maybe he is) - I prefer potential leaders to inspire with an alternative vision.
When do you think he might reveal these magical cards?
and if it's just fine and dandy to sit in the shadows all the time, just what are taxpayers paying for the rest of the time? Why not spend the money on chicken dinners for the people, then just wheel the "opposition" out for a three month theatrical run pre election?
