From what I can see, after his entirely unconvincing "position" on gaza he has essentially disappeared from view. Blair notoriously used to do this a lot when he wanted to avoid legitimate questions, leaving brown nosing slaves to face questions from the proles.
So over to the mnet net, which I know has wise tentacles everwhere
Has the famous SIR dropped into your church fete/tombola recently? Selfies welcome.

@Offwiththecircus Detailed policies are published in the party manifestos. This applies to the Tories are as well.

Why do you write SIR in capital letters?

I’ve just read on BBC news app that Starmer would support a change in the law on assisted dying, which is good news as far as Im concerned.
I’m interested as to why a pp said Sunak is ahead of Starmer on Gaza, how exactly? Has Sunak agreed to call for an immediate ceasefire?

Yep I read that. Well assisted dying is hardly a core core electoral issue is it? On the gaza tory thing there have been certain statements from the Tory side - notably ex defence minister. Starmer schtum/following as usual. I went on one of the marches - Starmer, Sunak and Braverman were equally mocked/derided/despised. But at least Sunak didn't appear on LBC and then lie about what he had said&&
&& correction - Mr disappearing didn't have the nerve to step forward and "reinterpret" what he had said - he got minions and mysterious spokespersons to do that for him. And I have barely seen him since - photo opps and obligatory parliamentary appearances don't count in my book.

You know he's not Prime Minister right? I should imagine campaigning will begin earnest next year.
As it is the.press will take any opportunity to paint him in a bad light. This week he was labelled as evil for barristering when he was a barrister.

You do seem to have posted a lot of fanboy/girl stuff on this while I have been away. Am not talking about the detailed manifesto - am talking about presenting an alternative vision/speaking to the people. If we have to wait until the three months before the election to get a glimmer/get our blood pumping, see my other comment about the waste of space/money the rest of the time. Can we put him down for a run at the Hackney Empire?
Fair question about the SIR - it's because it seems obligatory to refer to him that way. Is it his first name? Seems so.

er yes of course I realise he isn't Prime Minister. My concern is what he might do/not do when he almost certainly is.

you make him sound like a poker player (maybe he is) - I prefer potential leaders to inspire with an alternative vision.
When do you think he might reveal these magical cards?
and if it's just fine and dandy to sit in the shadows all the time, just what are taxpayers paying for the rest of the time? Why not spend the money on chicken dinners for the people, then just wheel the "opposition" out for a three month theatrical run pre election?

But in British politics, the job of the opposition isn’t to set out an alternate vision until an election campaign - the role of the opposition is to question/ challenge/ scrutinise the work of the government.

@Offwiththecircus Not fangilrling. Just pointing out facts. As in not disappeared, just visiting NATO troops in Estonia-easily discovered by a quick google!

He's visiting British troops at a NATO base in Estonia at the moment. And making positive noises about assisted dying. I'm sure he's doing plenty other stuff too.

well I meant putting himself in front of the public and making himself available for interviews - not transparent photo opps with "our boys". Thatcher looked far more fetching in her tank and goggles.
On public appearances, I couldn't help but notice that the Monday after her resignation Jess Philips was due to speak at a lecture in London but her appearance was pulled a mere three hours before the scheduled 6pm to 7pm appearance. Not criticising her as such, but call me cynical in my middle years - couldn't help but think La Starmer had told her not to appear in front of the untamed public in case certain questions were asked. Apparently she had had an "orthopedic incident" over the weekend which stopped her getting back to London. Starmer was unavailable for comment on any role he may or may not have played in this "orthopedic incident".
anyone any idea what his top tip is for the christmas number one - and his views on?

see my comment about blatant controlled photo opps. That's not an appearance/interface with joe public.

Yet another Starmer bashing thread. Tedious.

I heard him on radio this morning speaking about the assisted dying issue.

he should be flattered/feel encouraged that folk are still engaged enough to despair of him I think. I natter to a fair few folk like me (liberal lefty in London, natural labour voter) who are very very seriously thinking of not voting for him.
If I ever feel like ultimately anaesthetizing myself though I will of course be in touch with his office. Thanks for the tip.

Can't quite get my head round why someone who professes to be left wing would not vote Labour in the next GE - if for no other reason than to get the Tories out 🙄.

Eyesopenwideawake · 21/12/2023 18:02

Nothing anyone will say can change your mindset but the normal sequence of events is that a date is set for an election, each party produces it's manifesto for the public to pour over and then there are local and national debates on the points. What's so hard to understand about that?

maybe because they are still reading the tea leaves to figure out whether La Starmer is actually/even vaguely left wing?

So what - you'd rather keep the Tory shit show than have a more centrist Labour Leader?
