Why are the Tories allowing this to happen to the country?

I'm no fan of the conservatives, to say the least, but I can't understand why they are allowing our country to go to shit with zero interest or intervention?

Yeah but I can’t vote for a party that thinks it’s acceptable to campaign with a poster suggesting Rishi Suank supports paedophiles.. so what the fuck do I do now?
So bloody ANGRY!

Very true, a friends parents, in their late 70s, when asked why they voted to leave the EU said "We ve done our travelling and lived abroad, we don't care about that now"

They have 2 children and 4 grandchildren, clever people too, like my barrister cousin, doesn't care about future generations, all they care about is migration and how the 'Mail tells them to vote.

I strongly suspect the Tories will win again next year because of these folk and because the young for whatever reason, don't vote in enough numbers.

I suggest that you put this point of view to my 82yo mother, she’ll rip your head off!

TheHandmaiden · 27/04/2023 09:05

It's a bitter mean spirited country of old bitter voters. You watch them start yelling about social care when it applies to them or that the NHS doesn't do everything or potholes. Then of course something should be done.

A country that does not invest in its young is screwed. It has nothing to plan for except inherited wealth for a lucky few. Boomers are more Victorian minded than their own parents, who fought and gave their children what was needed.

So Sunak and other top Tories saying in Parliament that Starmer enabled Saville is perfectly acceptable?

I really hate how Labour are held to a far higher standard then the Tories.

But as far as facts go..... since 2010, 4000 plus child sex offenders have escaped jail, so in the 13 years the Tories have nothing to reform sentencing guidelines.

As far as your mum goes, older you get, the more Tory you become, exceptions of course but thats how it is.

Absolutely. As stupid and misguided as she was, seeing Abbot getting mauled for what she wrote by the Tories was the perfect example of this. They’ve got monstrosities such as Braverman, Gullis and 30p Lee churning up hatred, half truths and division wherever possible. That’s perfectly fine, of course, nothing to see here….Hmm

I agree.
Labour, and the rest, should absolutely be held to a high standard. The highest standards of all should be expected of the actual government though. The Tories seem to get away with anything though and their voters bend over backwards (or should that be forwards) to let them.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/04/2023 11:56

@TheHandmaiden I totally agree. My FIL was all Brexity until he realised the young ladies that cared for his terminally ill partner were polish and that it is a nightmare for our business and he is now realising exactly how much rent is for our son and how hard it is to get a home in vast swathes of the country . He admits he was totally out of touch . He won't be voting Tory!!

Crikeyalmighty · 27/04/2023 12:00

@Alexandra2001 I agree with your post but I'm not so sure the Tory's will win- I think they will lose in the Home Counties and also lose some of the red wall seats. if they do win then we are off again- and given the new nomad visas in some great countries are in a position to do so .

Cherryblossoms85 · 27/04/2023 12:01

Maybe because they are blind drunk most of the time?

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2022 06:52

Do you think Labour would meet every pay demand - How would they fund it?

What about inflation

What should they do in your opinion

There is no evidence that inflation is linked to pay increase. There's been plenty written about it. Its old fashioned theory that fits their ideology.

I'm just going on my bit of Cornwall, which seems to be quite representative, the folk we mix with (reluctantly!) were and still are pro Brexit, just the Cons were dragged back by the remainers and whilst they are critical of the Tories, they think Labour are no better or probably worse.

I don't know know any Tory voters who will vote LD or Lab, even the majority can't stand their Con MP but we did return a Lab councillors 2 years ago.

I think the polling, nationally, is wrong & punters are lying to pollsters, sure Lab have a lead but its not 15%.

I hope to god i'm wrong, i couldn't stand another 5 years of these criminals.

Alexandra2001 · 27/04/2023 12:14

Very true, bankers pay isn't causing inflation, neither is Sunaks but an extra £2000 for nurse will.

Tesco made 1 billion profit, but supermarket price rises don't cause inflation but pay a worker an extra £2 per hour will embed inflation.....

Its beyond belief people still believe this crap about wages, which are still, on average 1/2 the inflation rate.

Labour haven't said they will fund pay demands 100% , just that they will talk but unless NHS get a significant pay rise, then it will only be those with private insurance who will get care.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/04/2023 12:27

@Alexandra2001 I don't think Cornwall is that representative if I'm honest -and I myself know a fair few older folk (usually ones in business or who had businesses) who def won't vote Tory. We can only hope!!

But you are right there is a hardened core who are just bitter nasty minded selfish people - who don't give a shit about others

Alexandra2001 · 27/04/2023 12:38

@Crikeyalmighty What i find the most depressing is that not only don't they care about others..... they don't care about their children/grand children either.

So my in laws listened intently to my DD telling them the horror show that is the NHS but they then said they'd still vote Tory as "Labour tax too much"

A friend, his DD works in NHS, said he'll vote Tory despite what his DD tells him, he is a keen cyclist, always moaning about potholes BUT apparently thats down to giving the EU too much money........

I'm hoping these folk are the Tory base and that it will shrink but given FPTP i'm not sure....

Crikeyalmighty · 27/04/2023 13:41

@Alexandra2001 it's alarming isn't it. Luckily my FIL at 83 appears to have had a complete mind switch - and is very concerned at the way things are going. He was Brexity and that changed radically- especially when we were living in Copenhagen- he saw just how much better stuff was handled. He had no idea everything was so integrated commercially and he's very aware now that if legal immigration isn't coming from young, fit EU guys and gals then it will be coming from elsewhere , however well hidden . I think living where he does was influencing him- it's a very Brexity area with a lot of over 60s who aren't very liberal. Even better is he now wants to move!! He's a very young 83 and I think that area aged him mentally .

Crazykatie · 27/04/2023 21:48

I think Starmer can win the next GE but a coalition is probably going to be more likely, as usual both sides will use every dirty trick in the book, in recent years the Tories have been much cleverer.
My bet is the Tories will gain support a hung parliament will result

Yellowdays · 27/04/2023 22:17

I hate the stories and will reluctantly vote Labour, although I don't rate Starmer and think he isn't an asset. He doesn't have leadership star quality or presence.

Yellowdays · 27/04/2023 22:17

Tories.

Asset strippers. Anyone who believes their blood pressure can withstand it should read the current Private Eye with reference to Rishi's freeport in the NE. Free for all those with a mate in the know would be a more adequate description.

Ducking parasites 🤬 they are all just lice 🤬

Yellowdays · 18/05/2023 12:19

And now we have to pay more for our water so that the mates they sold the water companies to can continue to make a decent profit, whilst they try and clean up the dirty water mess they made in order to increase their profits.

Yes, they have already been paid by us to deal with infrastructure etc, but they claim that updating it is going to cost them lots and so our bills will have to increase, so we'll be paying for what we've already paid for.

Every time we paid a water bill, they stole some of my money, some of yours. The portion that was meant to deal with keeping our beaches and rivers clean, sorting out leaks etc.

Now they can't avoid actually performing the service we've been paying for them to do all along, which they haven't been doing, they want to make us pay again.

What about all the people who got my money via dividends and high salaries? The Water Companies know who these people are and how much each has had over the years; why on earth can't they just make them pay at least a percentage of the bill for the service which wasn't provided? Not provided, thus making their dividends and salaries the size they were?

They have stolen our money.

MovinGroovinBarbie · 19/05/2023 16:58

…and energy companies are doing exactly the same thing. Posting ‘record profits’ ffs.
