Why are the Tories allowing this to happen to the country?

I'm no fan of the conservatives, to say the least, but I can't understand why they are allowing our country to go to shit with zero interest or intervention?

Are people really saying Labour would resolve by giving people everything they ask for?

Personally no, I don’t think that and there are a couple of issues with the current labour policies that would usually put me off. However, I do believe that the wealth and the debt would be more fairly distributed by a labour government and they are more likely to invest in us.

Tactically I can’t justify a vote for any party that dilutes the opportunity of getting this current crop of tories out of power.

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2022 09:30

One big issue we face is a comparatively unhealthy population together with ageing population and free at point of use healthcare.

Real terms funding has gone up but it needs to increase by how much to meet issues - and who pays

Tax is high atm anyway. A greater tax burden and people with options re where they live. Hopefully it’ll work out under Labour.

@Horsesandzebras I was in a queue for passport control in October coming back from Spain.
The queue was very long , and there was a lot of huffing and puffing, when a member of staff called for people with European passports to join the much shorter queue at the next window.

As we walked away to join the shorter queue some thick as shit gammon, actually shouted, but what about us English, why do we have to queue for so long.
The perfectly English spoken Spanish official looked him straight in the eye, and told him that England had voted to queue!

Some of our population really embarrass us on the Global front. Did you see one of the Senegal supporters wearing a big white beer belly at the match? It's a bit mean, but if the cap fits!

Yes I do think the Tories are slowly and surely turning the UK into a right wing dictatatorship. But they are apt at doing it behind smoke screens and a communications team to la la la la over it. They have been "deadwooding the most vulnerable" for years.

The world is not perfect. I don't expect any party to deliver perfection. However, I do expect them to be HONOURABLE, which is quite frankly a joke that they call each other that.

They are corupt and self serving.

Humanwoman · 08/12/2022 09:45

It feels like we are watching someone who has given their months notice and is determined to fuck up as much as possible while also emptying the stationary cupboard before they go and we are powerless to stop them.

I cant bear to think how bad it's going to get before the end of 2024

BorisisaLune · 08/12/2022 09:49

Can someone tell me what the alternative to PFI contracts were?

Labour either had to borrow the money to build these hospitals, adding massively to national debt and risk spooking the markets aka Truss, seek a private partnership OR don't build.

What should they have done? Where would we be now without these new (not quite so new now) hospitals.

How many Hospitals have the Cons built since 2010?

I mentioned population health below so I agree in part, although how would Labour tackle obesity crisis?

I don’t think laughing at wc worked out too well for Emily Thornberry so they might need more than that

@Horsesandzebras Only have to look at that self serving Hancock to see where and what the Tories are all about.

He saw being an MP purely as a career and self promotion option... same with Cameron... Bojo gave us the disaster which is Brexit purely as a means to power...he'd just as soon of backed Remain if it had meant being PM.

Then Truss and Kwarteng.. two people who should be on trial for misconduct in public office.

healthadvice123 · 08/12/2022 09:54

@Ifailed there is no private a&e

Agreed on every single sentence. 👏

@Alexandra2001 what we have in the current Tory bunch Is a load of The Apprentice candidates . Big on ego, small on business sense/ethics. Anyone else notice that occasionally you get a sensible Tory on TV/radio (often older) and they've never even got a sniff of a cabinet post!!

This is very much what it feels like Sad

We have to watch this for another two years.

There is no party that can please everybody. It would be lovely to give money out willy-nilly but it has to come from somewhere. We cannot overspend. So how do we decide who is a priority. It is an impossible job.

Soothsayer1 · 08/12/2022 14:25

mumda · 08/12/2022 09:12

The entire system is broken. Record low interest rates have continued silly house prices. Which means rents are also mad. Enhanced of course by a regular flow of people across the channel putting further pressure on every system.
We're at risk of power cuts, the sewerage system doesn't work well enough and we don't store enough water for the summer.
And that's before we get to housing and medical services.
Globally we are on the verge of seriously huge emergencies. The war in Ukraine has meant global food is at risk. The production of fertilizer by gas and by Russia means food is more expensive. We only feed the world population using fertilizer and a peaceful Ukraine.

This

Other countries don't have the sort of housing inequalities that we do.. nor broken sewage systems.. a crumbling health service (one option for the 7.2 m waiting for treatment is to send them overseas to Europe....)
We chose to shut down gas storage.. and not build reservoirs.. make AHPs pay for tuition.. not increase pay.. so staff quit.

Chose to leave one of the worlds largest and richest trading blocs....

I listened to Sunak saying he was having disaster centres to brain storm NHS responses WTF ??? he/they have been asleep at the wheel if they wait until its now a train wreck... we had 3.1m waiting for treatment in 2019... the issues have been apparent for years but Brexit took all their time and quite frankly they don't care.

Yes the whole of Europe it going through huge change but the UK seems have its own unique set of self inflicted problems.

Soothsayer1 · 08/12/2022 17:30

and King Rishi the pampered posh boy is at the helm, with Jeremy the *unt and Nutella Braverman😶

BirmaBrite · 08/12/2022 20:55

It is the bare faced lying that always gets to me , Sunak being interviewed on Newsnight 'we have a record number of GP's' , interviewer ' we have less GP's than before the pandemic ' . Cue stock 'I think what people want' answer.

It isn't an impossible job. For example, they could have NOT given £29 million to Lady Mone, and spent that on free school dinners instead. I think that is really, really simple.

Zonder · 08/12/2022 22:59

Spot on @carefulcalculator - and countless other ways they could have saved billions too. Mostly by not giving it away to their mates. Hope that helps, @pilates - it's really quite straightforward.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/12/2022 23:21

@BirmaBrite with this lot lying is as natural as breathing. They've learnt that vast amounts of the public will indeed believe any old shit if you say it often enough and particularly if it panders to their fears and prejudices- and mainstream TV or radio rarely challenges their lies either.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/12/2022 23:26

@Alexandra2001 not only did Brexit take all their time, it took all the cash they mysteriously found down the back of a sofa- no austerity there strangely -£300 billion and counting- All just to win over that ukip vote to the Tory's. There are no particularly great gains in this apart from rich people avoiding tax scrutiny by new EU regulation and there never was.

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/12/2022 16:47

I don't think anyone has anything to worry about with Labour and women's rights. We won't have any rights by the time the Tories are done.

Moving on from the bonfire of our rights that's happened since PM Theresa May announced the Tory policy of Self ID in 2017, we now have a Pro-Life activist Mp as Women's Minister, a pro Materinity cuts MP as Welfare Officer and Britain's first trans MP (he knows what a woman is because he's going to be one) on the Women and Equalities Committee.🤯

The Tories have wrecked the health, economy and rights of the UK and its citizens. They're a fucking disgrace.😡😡😡

oh how could you, she insists she's done nothing wrong and besides, she's important....she should have millions, and those children....well the little urchins should be out in the fields digging up potatoes, that'll keem em warm this winter

Even the rich need NHS a&e services in emergencies...

They use private A&E.

There is no private A&E in most of the UK. I am no even sure it exists in London.

carefulcalculator · 09/12/2022 17:35

Justtoshare · 09/12/2022 17:16

You can get private emergency care, you get seen by a doctor and they ring the relevant person who does it privately. There is no A&E department, but for most things you would just been seen by a doctor and sent away. I guess if you have a full on car crash you end up in A&E but you can still get transferred to a private hospital rather than wait on a trolley with the plebs.

What? There's no such thing.

Yes there is. Mainly in London but one has recently opening in Manchester too.
