Whatever you think of him, I can't help but think his optimism and vision is somewhat engaging?

@hamstersarse I didn't say that you were a right thicko :)
I'm sure you're really not at all, and are an optimistic glass-half-full person, which is a great way to be - but after what this joker has unleashed on this country and everyone in it, and his attitude towards any sort of culpability or responsibility, I find it a bit trite to wax lyrical about the PMs little chat.
It's meaningless, and he needs to be rather more substantial than a few minutes 'entertainment'. But that's the problem.

hamstersarse · 06/10/2021 13:06

@Burnshersmurfs

It is possible to be angry with the PM for those who died due to mismanagement of the pandemic response; the treatment of the poor and vulnerable; the consequences of Brexit for us and future generations; the blatant lying. He is, after, responsible for the running of this country. Attributing this response to some nonsense about ‘Jungian psychology’ is a bit embarrassing, I feel- a sort of pseudo-intellectual attempt to suggest those angry lack self-knowledge. It is possible for anger to be motivated by care and compassion for others even when there is no immediate impact on oneself. It’s fairly possible to support that argument through further reading of Jung- or pretty much anybody to the left of Satan who has written anything about human motivation.
The people voted for Brexit

The pandemic management is not straightforward. Hindsight will be a wonderful thing right across the world, not just under Boris's jurisdiction

I don't agree with the removal of the UC uplift - but still I can keep my emotions in check about that?

Those saying that the speech was only aimed at the faithful etc

That’s kind of the point at a party conference

Northernshepherd · 06/10/2021 13:10
@hamstersarse and the depressing thing is that people like you get a vote. Have some bloody standards for dicks sake and expect more of the people we put in these positions of immense power. I can direct you to some comedy clubs if you want a laugh. Join Tinder if you want someone to go for a pint with. And then vote for someone who is compassionate enough and qualified enough to hold the lives of millions in their hands.
Who would you wish to take the vote away from? Just the op, all Tory voters? People who disagree with you? People who make decisions based on things you find frivolous?

FinallyHere · 06/10/2021 13:19

optimism and vision is somewhat engaging?

But once you have experienced his dodgy relationship with the truth, what is the point of listening to him ever ? He literally says whatever he thinks people want to hear. He lies routinely.

The things people remember about speeches are if they made them laugh

In his early days, as a correspondent in Brussels he quickly spotted that factual articles were relegated to a few lines on an inside page while outrageous lies would get him the front page, people thinking good old Boris.

I'm genuinely sorry that people are still taken in by this. What future can you imagine if everyone uses an easy lie instead of the honest truth.

hamstersarse · 06/10/2021 13:21

What are the lies that people refer to all the time?

OP posts:
DoubleTweenQueen · 06/10/2021 13:21

@Northernshepherd How about an exam, where people have to answer in depth fact-checked questions about current issues and they have to get a minimum score?
If they get their info from SM, DM, or their mate down the pub, they may fail so lose the right to vote ? :)

Also, a political attitudes app, which matches people to a party/candidate/manifesto, might be interesting.

Burnshersmurfs · 06/10/2021 13:23

Seems to me nowadays that the people inadvertently voted for Project Fear. I’m not at all convinced that what is happening at this point bears any resemblance to the ‘Brexit’ people voted for other than having the same letters in the same order.
It is possible to evaluate pandemic response by comparing outcomes between countries. Or even just using memory- consider all the u-turns, contradictions, lies, corruption, hypocrisy, neglect of the vulnerable. Obviously, memory can be selective to a degree and cognitive dissonance isn’t exactly rare- but I think the people of this country would have to work hard to shut down recall of so many catastrophic decisions made.

DoubleTweenQueen · 06/10/2021 13:23

@FinallyHere Yes - that Hopkins woman, and Peirs Morgan have based their careers on a similar observation!

urbanbuddha · 06/10/2021 13:23

But I just enjoyed the speech.

Thought it was funny, yes, there are worse things to be. British people do tend to take the piss - its always been part of our culture. I know the level of seriousness you display seems to be some form of assessing your morality these days, but I for one am a bit bored of having to be serious all the time.

Boris is taking the piss for sure.
The engaging comic buffoon is his act. Hè has honed the persona over the years specifically to deceive people like you. It works.

Wow.

You are actually serious Shock

This video gives some more information about Johnson’s lies:

hamstersarse · 06/10/2021 13:26

@urbanbuddha

I can only wish that one day I will be as amazing as you and not be fooled by such an obvious psychopath

OP posts:
This video gives some more information about Johnson’s lies:
Just let me get this clear before I watch it.....it is Dominic Cummins, Alistair Campbell and Peter Stefanovic who we are relying on to establish whether Boris Johnson is a liar?

Also, you do know we are all liars? All of us?

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 06/10/2021 13:30

Also, you do know we are all liars? All of us?

Given the prime minister is er, the prime minister, his behaviour needs to be held to a different standard than Dave down the pub.

urbanbuddha · 06/10/2021 13:32

@hamstersarse

Thanks. I wish that for you too.

hamstersarse · 06/10/2021 13:36

@PurpleDaisies

Also, you do know we are all liars? All of us?

Given the prime minister is er, the prime minister, his behaviour needs to be held to a different standard than Dave down the pub.

Part of the problem is this unrealistic expectation of black and white situations in politics.

So one of the examples in this video is about the N.Ireland situation. You could say it was a lie, you could also say, as the commentator on there is saying that it was over-optimism and 'wishful thinking' not a direct lie and had to change as things progressed and changed. Never had to do that yourself? I'd think you were lying if you said no.

The biggest lie coming from the Left is that Trans Women are Women. That is at almighty proportions in the lying gauge, not some over-optimism about what can be achieved.

OP posts:
Burnshersmurfs · 06/10/2021 13:37

I suppose that depends on how you define a lie. If you have a similar definition to the one which seems right to me- ie, wilfully communicating something that you know to be untrue for the purpose of personal gain- then no, I don’t think that is the case for all of us on a consistent basis.

DoubleTweenQueen · 06/10/2021 13:39

@urbanbuddha You are also an optimistic (and may I say, thoughtful) person 💐

urbanbuddha · 06/10/2021 13:42

@DoubleTweenQueen

Blush You're very kind.

FinallyHere · 06/10/2021 13:42

What are the lies that people refer to all the time?

Now I know you are not serious, OP.

@Burnshersmurfs you beat me to it. 😀

The PM is the ultimate authority on lies within the chamber, so there are effectively no longer any sanctions on lying to the House.

Hansard has examples of the PM's lies written into the record.

luckylavender · 06/10/2021 13:43

He doesn't have any vision. He just spouts waffle and because he uses long words people trust him.

RunningOnFumes · 06/10/2021 13:45

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches

An actual hamster would have more insight.
GrinGrin
FinallyHere · 06/10/2021 13:46

We are no relying on anything other than the evidence of what the PM has said, on the record, to know his lies.

"There will be no documentation required exporting between GB and NI. In answer to a follow up question, he was filmed saying if anyone asks you got documents (in that situation ) call me and I'll tell you to bin any documentation. "

How is that one working out?

luckylavender · 06/10/2021 13:47

@hamstersarse - I'm so glad you enjoyed it on the day his government has thrown thousands into poverty and is about to bankrupt large swathes of the farming industry. When I want enjoyment I go to the theatre. I expect our government to be responsible not performing clowns. I'm alright Jack.
