This is a thread for chit chat, banter, memes and emojis about current politics.

It is NOT intended as a fight club.

It is NOT intended as a place to rehash old arguments about the merits (or otherwise) of Brexit - please pop over to the Brexit forum for that.

Politics threads sometimes attract posters who make personal attacks or who hold their views so very strongly that they find it hard to be respectful of other opinions. Please do not engage with such posters; MN has a handy report button for any posts that fall outside their posting guidelines.

Now, pull up a bar stool, and I'm sure one of our lovely staff will be over with a menu shortly.

I think the only thing we have to do is not attack other posters, and keep reporting if another poster is aggressive to you.

And talk about politics or this becomes the most boring thread ever!!!!!

What's that in aid of, then? I don't get why they would even want to have a say in a devolved English issue, since they don't even want to be part of the same country??

(oh, I mean, what's that stunt in aid of, not what is your post and picture in aid of!!)

So it's all about the thread, and politics. As is all political discussion.

Personal plea to @MNHQ, please stay out of the discussion until we stoop to personal threats; it moderates itself fairly well, and as it is about political thought, it does tend to be quite robust, but as it is generally about strongly held opinions, PLEASE leave threads to run their course. Nobody has to engage with it (I spend more time talking frocks for the mature woman on S&B) but this is a really lively debate about and for very serious matters of public policy. No one who regularly engages with this thread, as far as I know, is engaging in any form of hate. You only have to look across the sources cited to realise that this is one of the most engaged and informed, and DIVERSE, forums across the whole of the internet. Yes, the deabte gets very heated, but these are very important topics. And here left and right wing posters engage and clash views. Mostly politely, and with interest.

Well, if Blackford is going to speak no Evel, perhaps he'll STFU for a change.

GreenishMe · 04/02/2020 20:47

Sally, yours mustn't have been the squeakiest wheel. I wouldn't bother trying to make sense of it because there is none.

It seems the squeakiest wheels have now rolled off into the sunset though. Job done.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 04/02/2020 20:53

Well its all to further the cause of SNP Nationalism. They can go home to Scotland and say. "look we have been banned from voting, they dont care about Scotland, its not a UK parliament anymore its an English parliament".

scaryteacher · 04/02/2020 20:55

Xing Have you found Toast yet for frocks? They have some really nice ones, albeit a bit pricey, but the sale is normally good. Can recommend their fingerless wristwarmers as well.

XingMing · 04/02/2020 21:01

I like my possum merino fingerless gloves best scary, as I first bought them in NZ. I buy a new pair, or several, most years (they don't do hard wear) and Frockaholics in Tavi Market on Thursdays sometimes have Toast bargains.

HateIsNotGood · 04/02/2020 21:05

Seems Arse has little to say about how our autistic children have been excluded from education and society - for no other reason than for being 'different'. Funnily enough most young children don't take it very well when the 'mediocre' people in charge of making the life-decisions about them find them too 'extreme'.

When I tuned in to BBC Parliament 10+ yrs ago it was our current AG who was speaking so eloquently about addressing the needs of our autistic children; although not widely-publicized, I believe our AG has an autistic child himself so well-placed to speak about it.

Speaker Bercow has an autistic child too. So autism doesn't really care what anyone thinks about Brexit, politics, religion or anything. Just as Brexit, etc doesn't care about autism either.

Carefully places logs on fire for a night-long burn, winks at H, who's sleeping soundly and doesn't notice.

scaryteacher · 04/02/2020 21:29

Xing Some of my Toast wristwarmers have lasted years, but the newer ones aren't as robust. Will try Frockaholics as well. Have you seen the stall on Tavi market that does the wraparound skirts with the press tab variable waist? They support workers in India I think, and are great for fat and thin days. Different lengths as well.

time4chocolate · 04/02/2020 21:31

Lovely fire Hate but your 'H' needs to stop hogging it now😊

Seems somethings are more pressing/worthy of comment than others.

Hey ho and on we go.

XingMing · 04/02/2020 21:32

I really don't have a view worth hearing on teaching autistic children. I did a summer school at the end of university working in an institution for severely MH adolescents, and ran away. So don't ask me. I really never got to grips with being able to help them. It's not a reluctance to be helpful; it's just not getting it. Apologies.

Arseaboutdarkly · 04/02/2020 21:35

What is this about Hate? Surely you know it is very poor form to demand a response from someone when they haven't even engaged in whatever discussion you're trying to solicit?

Clearly you know a lot about this subject, and time4chocolate, who has also demanded a response from me to your question, has said they could fill a book on it. So why on earth would you want to know what i've got to say on a subject I have never claimed to know anything about?

It's coming across quite unpleasantly actually.

Arseaboutdarkly · 04/02/2020 21:39

Seems somethings are more pressing/worthy of comment than others.

So if I asked you question about something close to me, that you knew nothing about, it would be ok for me to demand answers and try to belittle you for it? Of course not

Everyone has different things that are more pressing for them than other things

time4chocolate · 04/02/2020 21:42

Not aimed at you Xing just a follow on from Hates post - was trying to say what I wanted to say without being deleted coz I haven't got a bloody clue what is acceptable and within guidelines anymore. One persons firm rebuff is another persons goady- the lines are blurred and applied inconsistently at the moment.

HateIsNotGood · 04/02/2020 21:52

Oh really Arse i wouldn't take it so personally or badly if I were you, obviously many people don't understand, care or even have a view about autistic children in the UK; people generally don't give it a thought at all - often easy when the child has been excluded because of their disability.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind.

The only way this is possibly connected to any thought within your sphere is because of the view that you appear to hold that people who prefer that the UK leaves the UK apparently also don't care about the disabled, vulnerable, etc members of society.

Could you please explain how your preference that the UK remains in the EU demonstrates your greater understanding and support of the many disabled people in our society.

That's not a demand, merely a request, feel free not to answer it and continue to respond to your own question with the answers that you imagine others might give.

WeSavedSallySally · 04/02/2020 21:54

I don't know if I'm breaking talk guidelines here but I've just seen Charles dance on episode 5 of series 3 the crown.

Amazing actor, and yet quite underrated in terms of awards?

I find him quite dishy too. ☺️. Even in his dotage 😂😂.

(waits for the background that he's actually a far right bnp supporter and my above is comments therefore make me one too)

GreenishMe · 04/02/2020 21:58

would be ok for me to demand answers and try to belittle you for it? Of course not

surreal

Arseaboutdarkly · 04/02/2020 22:00

Seriously, Hate I have no idea what you're talking about or where you could possible get this idea -
because of the view that you appear to hold that people who prefer that the UK leaves the UK apparently also don't care about the disabled, vulnerable, etc members of society

Where in god's name have you got such an idea in your head? It's totally wrong and very offensive and of course i'm going to 'take it personally' because you are aiming it directly at me!

GreenishMe · 04/02/2020 22:01

I'm afraid I'm going to have to report you now Sally.

time4chocolate · 04/02/2020 22:02

Arse no one 'demanded' anything. But your choice of what you have decided to comment on thus far makes me question how genuine you are in wanting to participate in this thread. I could of course be wrong.

WeSavedSallySally · 04/02/2020 22:02

I don't wish to be discuss re disabled on a non friendly thread because I really will loose my shit and get banned

I had a disabled relative v close who died in suspicious circs.

Generally in the UK we are light years ahead of many countries and many eu countries on being inclusive, stamping out disabilist terms, trying to carefully integrate people with disabilities into the communities but also being too inclusive sometimes leaving people who need lots of help at the mercy of things like County lines.

Some countries in the eu are light years behind us. They have not had the ad campaigns, the TV stuff, the documentarys, even the whistle blowers exposing the scandals and why it is wrong to abuse people who are vulnerable.

time4chocolate · 04/02/2020 22:04

Greenish - surreal is about right😊
