Justine Roberts Co Founder of Mumsnet says, Mumsnet users will 'not lament the loss of the News of the World as a Newspaper'

How dare Justine Roberts speak for me and others in saying in todays Times that I as a user of Mumsnet will be glad that this 168 year old paper has folded. Murdoch as an Aussie and Roberts being married into the Guardian may not care about this paper but I an many others do, particularly with the loss of of 200 jobs. I'm not surprised she says the above as she is married to the deputy editor of the Guardian, who led the campaign against this paper. There is one thing Ms. Roberts can be sure of, the Guardian won't replace the News of the World, with its daily readership of 175.000!

Justine, I hope that you have sent Mr Justine to work with a nutritionally-sound packed lunch this morning?

Pagwatch · 12/07/2011 08:52

I agree with that. I think assuming a woman must share her husbands views in politics or anywhere else is pretty dim.
Well that's what dh said last night as I was cutting his crusts off for him

clam · 12/07/2011 08:55

I must say that I found myself checking the date last night, in case I'd woken up in the wrong century.

Dear Justine, Thankyou for replying to my post. I did not and have not any problem with you or others feeling indignation at the treatment of Milly Dowler and others by TNoW. As I'm sure you are aware this practice of hacking must surely go on in other papers, not say it is right! As I have stated many times, the only problem I have is the founder/proprietor of any organisation can say that 'MN' users 'will not lament the demise of the Now.' The connection between MN and the Guardian is of course another issue, and of course will bring up thoughts of 'collusion'. Not to say that there is. Many of course would like to see corrupt immoral journalists be investigated/get the boot etc. Not many I know would have liked to have seen TNoW close.
I am 'right' in my analysis that a founders/proprietors should not say they represent all of the users, as clearly they don't.
As far as being 'a wee bit sexist' is concerned. Well you've guessed perhaps I am! I always listen to my husband who as everyone knows (who knows me!) is the font of all knowledge! and he pays for all of my and the children's expensive holidays and baubles!Grin ( by the way I think MN is a great site, and very informative, particularly on politics.)
No Justine I fear we may have to agree to disagree, until we meet later for coffee! ( I hope you are taking me somewhere decent!). Thanks again for replying as I know that you are a busy woman.Wink Smile

don't mind if I do but only home-made organic

MooMooFarm · 12/07/2011 09:23

Hmm so The Times are mis-quoting now are they? What a surprise .

I would never waste my money on any 'news'paper - they all have their own agendas, some are just better at disguising it than others. NOTW is no better or worse than the rest of the tat, it just got found out in a more spectacular fashion.

Pagwatch · 12/07/2011 09:29

I don't believe there is a woman alive who simpers about her dh buying her baubles.
What a big old crock of shite

"Well as far as I am concerned I don't mind Justine saying anything on behalf of mumsnet users - because I am absolutely sure that if she gets it very wrong there will be thousands of posts on hundreds of threads from grouchy people who don't agree with her."

It has happened before and MNHQ have changed things to represent the views of the majority.

I don't see anything wrong with saying what the majority of users are already saying themselves.

Somebody put on the other huge thread that maybe the reason mumsnet is being targeted is because it's smaller than facebook and twitter, so NI is not going to want to piss off half the country who is on said sites, but will do for MN (and C of E Hmm)

Facebook had a large part in it, I was in a group with over 6000 members that were furiously email/tweeting companies etc.. but yes, let's all blame mumsnet!

aquashiv · 13/07/2011 22:18

The Times also said yesterday that Mumsnet users were all chamomile tea drinking, organic shortbread eating folk that caused the demise of the News of the World.

As a very strong coffee drinking with Iceland chocolate shortbread eating. AM over the moon that weasal has been rumbled and more power to the Internet and ehthical journalism for spreading the truth.

so 4 million copies read by around 12 million a week are all these people bad? the guardian is a rag it lies it misleads but the sheep follow it. it hates the current government because labour and the councils kept it going with millions each year in advertising fees for the non jobs it advertised, now it has very little income from adverts it lost 33 million last year. yes the notw contained a lot of celeb rubbish they also helped change the law re child molesters and got the convictions of a lot of criminals. i bought it because the celeb rubbish appealed to my young teenage daughter she then overtime started reading the other news and now on a daily basis reads our daily paper and also the other weekend papers we get, she is 15 and loves the fashion and gossip and that in the notw got her interested in reading the papers.
